The morning started out as normal. The sunlight peeking through the curtains as the two still curled up in the blankets shifted, groaning as they still wanted to sleep.

Bright indigo eyes blink open. Kaito Kuroba smiles as he sees his sleeping partner, Rei Furuya, who's arms are still wrapped around his body.

Making a satisfied happy chirp, Kaito nuzzles his lover's neck, purring like a kitten.

'It's rare to be awake before Rei-san…' Kaito thinks to himself as he contemplates how to get up without waking his lover.

He tries to quietly and carefully slip away…when he's suddenly grabbed, a pair of strong arms holding him close.

"Good morning Kaito-kun," A hot breath says against his ear. Furuya's sky blue eyes gazing lovingly at his lover.

Blushing, Kaito kisses him, "Good morning Rei-san."

They reluctantly get out of bed, Furuya preparing breakfast before going out as he has a busy schedule as usual. Kaito kisses him goodbye, seeing him off as he has the day off today.

After doing some paperwork in the NPA, Furuya had enough time for his other appointment today.

He enters Jewelry Étranger, where he's greeted by Richard Ranasinghe de Vulpian and Seiji Nakata, his assistant.

After introducing himself, they get right to business.

"I see you requested to check out our gem selection?" Nakata asks.

"Hai. I… I want to propose to my lover," Furuya sheepishly smiles, "I already have my heart set on simple silver brands for the rings, but I want to surprise him with gems I personally picked out."

"I see… I hope you find the right gems in our selection," Nakata smiles, "Any gems in particular?"

"...Sapphires, and topaz please."

"I understand," Richard says as he goes to get the gems from the storage before coming back.

As Furuya looks over the selection, a hand on his chin, "Hm…"

After five minutes, Furuya sighs.

"...what's wrong?" Richard asks.

He wryly smiles, "...my lover is quite the jewel expert himself, so I'm a bit nervous about picking the right ones."

They didn't expect that, so Richard and Seigi looked at each for a moment before smiling. Richard responds, "I'm sure we would love to talk about gems with your lover some time. If you decide to bring him over."

Furuya smiles, "I'm sure he would love that too."

Taking his time, Furuya eventually chooses a sapphire with an indigo color, matching Kaito's eyes, and a sky blue topaz matching his own eye color. The pair of blues contrasting yet belong together.

Paying them for the service, Fuurya walks out, very happy about his selection.

Meanwhile…

As Kaito was bored, he decided to go out as well.

Wandering the streets of the city, he comes across a blonde foreigner in a suit.

Feeling something off about him, Kaito decided to follow him for a while, watching his every move, concealing his presence as he put on a cap.

Of course, the blonde noticed his little stalker after a while. A few hours give or take.

As they pass each other by in the crowds, they bump into each other on purpose before slipping away.

Once at a far enough distance, Kaito takes out a wallet with a fake Japanese driver's license.

"Laurent Thierry, huh…"

Then when checking his own pockets, he finds that his wallet is gone.

Meanwhile, Laurent checks the wallet of the kid who caught his interest, and is very impressed.

"I think I'm gonna like this kid!" Laurent laughs to himself as he looks at the kid's student ID.

That fact that Kaito, of all people, got pick pocketed made him pout… but his curiosity about what Thierry's doing got the best of him, and so he investigates on his own.

One hacking session later, he finds Team Confidence, an international con artist ring that mostly cons corrupt big shots and other criminals since they have lots of money. The whole operation was led by Laurent Thierry.

When they meet again, it's in a back alley.

They exchange wallets before chatting.

"...so, you're a con artist…" Kaito starts.

"I prefer the term "confidence man"," Laurent clarifies.

"Con artist," Kaito rolls his eyes.

"And what are you then?" Laurent asks, raising an eyebrow.

"A Kaitou."

After a moment of silence, he suddenly starts laughing, "A Kaitou, huh…"

Kaitou are on a whole different level from ordinary criminals… morally and otherwise. Even Laurent is no fool as to mess with them.

"You know Kuroba-kun, it's very fun to mess with other criminals and con them out of their money. I could show you a good time," Laurent lightly flirts, trying to recruit the cute kid.

"...you're very lucky my lover is out of jurisdiction," Kaito huffs, not falling for it since his heart already belongs to another.

Laurent raises an eyebrow, "...your lover's an officer?"

"Public Security. That's all I can tell you," Kaito sheepishly shrugs.

"Ah…" Laurent sweat-drops, "Well, it's a good thing we're out of jurisdiction then."

Laurent does not want to deal with those scary Public Security Officers. He can only imagine this cute kid's lover would rip him to pieces if he'd dared to touch him.

Even so…

"...Want to join up with me on a job some time then?" Laurent asks as his interest in this kid has peaked. "As a policy, I try not to make Kaitous my enemies… I'd rather have them as friends."

"...maybe," Kaito replies with a poker face smile.

It's not a "no", so Laurent smiles, handing the kid a business card.

As they part ways, Laurent yells, "Let me know if you change your mind! The offer's always open!"

Kaito smiles, yelling back, "We'll see!"

Pocketing the card, Kaito thinks, 'The offer's interesting enough… but I wonder if Rei-san will approve…'

Speaking of his lover, he gets a text from him, wanting to meet up at a certain spot. Excitedly, Kaito replies, K: On my way! before running off.

At a parking lot, Kaito smiles as he sees the white RX-7, his cool lover waiting patiently in the driver's seat.

"Amuro-san!" Kaito cheerfully smiles, happy to see him.

Amuro smiles back as his lover runs up, and gets in the passenger seat, buckling his seatbelt. They share a quick kiss before Amuro starts the car, and they drive off.

And of course, the couple bumps into trouble. As they check out the scene out of curiosity (and to see if they needed to step in), they bump into Officers Daisuke Kambe and Haru Kato. Both Kaito and Furuya recognized them as they're a bit infamous, especially after the Adollium discovery.

When they do decide to step in, Kaito does what he does.

He bumps into them literally, apologizing before happily walking back to his lover.

Furuya sighs, "Kaito-kun… give it back."

Kaito just sheepishly smiles, revealing the loot he pickpocketed from Kato and Kambe. Their police notebooks, smart phones, and wallets.

"...All of it," Furuya demands, his brow twitching, a tick mark on his head.

Pouting, Kaito brings out the extra earpiece for HEUSC from somewhere…and their guns. All the loot was ceremoniously returned to them.

Kato and Kambe are both surprised and impressed at the same time.

Lightly flicking his forehead, "Ow!" Furuya huffs, scolding him, "I'll lecture you later."

Kaito was still rubbing his forehead, soothing the pain and whining.

"HEUSC…" Kambe buys something outrageously expensive…and possibly illegal to get the job done.

"Very well sir. Balance: Unlimited," responds the AI butler.

"I've heard about Kambe-san's unlimited balance, but I didn't think it was real! That's awesome!" Kaito's eyes sparkle in excitement.

"No no no! It's not awesome!" Kato argues.

Then as the case continues, Kaito makes a suggestion that Furuya doesn't like. Kaito had offered to be live bait since he's rather used to it…or a honey trap.

"You…" Furuya groans, a hand on his head before sighing… He smiles chillingly, "I'll punish you later tonight."

He squeaks in fear at the word "punish".

"...I'm sorry," Kaito deflates, grumbling as, knowing his lover, it's likely a "punishment" in bed.

"Public Security?" Kato blinks in surprise.

"I've had HEUSC do facial recognition on them," Kambe sighs, "He's Public Security Officer Furuya Rei, otherwise known as Zero. The other just seems like an ordinary high school student though."

"If you're Public Security then… Why is a child with you?!" Kato turns towards the couple and yells.

"I'm his collaborator," Kaito calmly replies.

"I just said he "seems like an ordinary high school student". I never said he was," Kambe comments.

"..." Kato heavily sighs, pinching the bridge of nose since it's both out of jurisdiction and none of his business to question Public Security and their collaborators.

Of course, Furuya "suggests" the two cover up their presence in this case, which Kambe and Kato agree to, in exchange for their help.

Furuya does get the name and license plate of the culprit using his connections.

"...That's an abuse of power…" Kaito and Kato mutters, cringing but not surprised.

Furuya and Kambe just ignore that comment, focused on the task at hand.

"Want me to hack HEUSC just to mess with Kambe-san some time?" Kaito smiles mischievously.

Kato thinks about it, a wry smile on his face, "Very tempting… and while it would be good to get back at him, my answer is no."

"Aw~..." Kaito whines like the child he is, "Well, let me know if you change your mind." Kaito already got Kato's number from when he pickpocketed them.

When the case concludes, Kambe is impressed by Kaito's skills.

"How much?"

"?" Kaito and Furuya tilt their heads to the side, not understanding.

"For your skills… how much?" Kambe clarifies.

"...not again!" Kato facepalms.

Kaito blinks at him before smiling, his poker face on, "I'm sorry. My skills aren't for sale. Although… we can negotiate better terms some other time." His aim being that Kambe must have family heirlooms that are potential targets for KID.

"With my presence," Furuya cuts in, a dark smile on his face. He knows Kaito just wants to network, but still… The possibilities of Kambe getting close to Kaito is… upsetting to him.

Both Kato and Kaito had chills run up their spines.

Kambe sighs, completely immune to Furuya's sub-zero smile, "...very well," and he gives Kaito his business card.

"We'll be going now. I do hope you think about it," Kambe smiles at Kaito as he leaves.

"Oi!" Kato yells after him before bowing to them, "Sorry about him!" before running after Kambe.

*Growl*

"Ah…" Kaito puts a hand on his stomach, smiling sheepishly.

Furuya chuckles, "Lunch?"

"Hm," Kaito shyly nods.

The couple goes to Calico Cat Cafe for a date as Kaito was hungry after such a busy day. The owner and barista, Makoto Edamura is a decent enough guy. There's only one shop cat at the moment. A calico named Ese.

Edamura chats with Furuya about the coffee, Furuya being impressed with the selection while Kaito loves his chocolate sweets.

As Edamura had other customers, Furuya and Kaito talked at length about their day, seated at the back of the shop.

"How's work?"

"It's fine. I was working on paperwork most of the day," Furuya replies, "However… I did have an appointment with some jewelers today, and I mentioned you. They're interested in your gem knowledge."

Kaito smiles, "Then I won't disappoint them if we meet."

"I'm sure you won't," he smiles, "And you? What did you do today while I was working?"

"Well~... I did meet an interesting guy," Kaito giggles, "A con artist," he clarifies before Furuya gets needlessly jealous.

Then he tells him about Team Confidence.

"...con artists?" Furuya blinks.

"International con artists," Kaito clarifies, "They're taking down corrupt big shots and other criminals since they have a lot of money."

"...and you want to join them on a job some time in the future?"

"...maybe~," Kaito sheepishly shrugs.

"...fine," Furuya huffs, "But I'm coming too. Just to make sure you don't get into too much trouble."

"Hai~!" Kaito smiles. Doing a con with Furuya will certainly be fun~. He's looking forward to it!

As he sips his iced cocoa, he looks at Furuya's face, sensing he's still thinking about what happened earlier today.

Kaito sighs, "I won't cheat on you with Kambe and his money. I'm better than that."

Furuya heavily sighs, "I know but-"

"No buts," Kaito huffs, "Besides, we both know if I dare to break up with you, you'll just lock me up somewhere."

"...that thought has crossed my mind," Furuya easily admits, his possessiveness leaking out. "But I didn't get very far in planning other than confining you to a safe house, and having fun with you for three days and three nights."

"..." Kaito's speechless, flushed red and terrified as he imagines having that much… He might not even be able to walk for a few days! Whimpering as Bourbon was out, whining, "...Rei-san…"

Furuya smiles, kissing his cheek, "That's just how much I love you. I never want to let you go."

Heavily sighing, Kaito resigns himself to never let that scenario happen, muttering, "...love you too."

They enjoy the rest of their date together before going home. And no, Furuya did still "punish" Kaito, but I'll leave that to your imaginations!

"Kaito Kuroba, will you marry me?" Furuya asks as he kneels, presenting the rings to his lover. The rings are a simple silver brand with a sapphire and blue topaz paired together on each ring.

After the initial shock, "...YES!" Kaito happily cries as he pulls his lover into a kiss.

And they lived happily ever after.
