Sammy and Ilna, love you to the moon

REAL McRollers and Readers, thanks doesn't seem like enough, but thank you always. Another wonderful title thanks to Sammy.

One of our wonderful readers suggested the dream sequence, so thank you! I apologize for not thanking you by name, but due to the fanfiction site being crazy, we didn't get alerts for a long time. If it was you, please give me a shout out, and I will thank you in a future story!

Mission: Maybe Someday

It was early morning when Steve shifted in his sleep. Eyelids flickering as he dreamed, a small smile appeared on his face as he experienced a milestone conjured by his subconscious.

Watching from the spectator's area adjacent to the familiar parade ground, his heart swelled and he felt Catherine squeeze his fingers as down on the field, Angie stood at attention, her eyes bright with excitement as she was commissioned as a brand new ensign.

The spitting image of Catherine at twenty one, her dark curly hair was wound into a tight bun beneath her cover, Steve's breath caught at the sight of his beautiful baby girl standing tall and proud in uniform.

Seconds later, covers had been tossed and in a heartbeat, the scene shifted as often happenes in dreams and he was standing in front of Angie, along with Catherine and Joseph, who was receiving the very first salute from the newly minted naval officer who once called him 'Apa' with the same smile she was flashing, even as her eyes were filled with joyful tears.

In a flash, she was saluting him and Catherine before wrapping her brother, who stood a bit taller than Steve himself in a heartfelt hug.

"So, how long before you take a shot at being the first female SEAL?" DJ asked with a proud grin for his brave, unstoppable little sister.

"As soon as I can, probably after my first deployment…" she said. Looking up at her father, she beamed. "Maybe after the second. What do you think, Daddy?

"I think you can do anything you set your mind to, baby girl," he said and wrapped her in another hug, "Just like someone else I know." He turned his smile on his wife, who was beaming as tears traced their way down her cheeks.

"Happy tears, right, Mommy?" Angie moved into Catherine's arms and as she answered "The happiest," the resemblance was so strong, it gave Steve a sense of deja vu.

"Get in there, Grandma," DJ instructed Elizabeth, "I need a picture of the three of you."

Just as the camera's stutter clicked, the scene morphed and Steve came awake. He lay still, trying to grasp at the fading fragments of the dream that had seemed so vivid just moments before.

Sensing he was awake, Catherine stirred beside him, her voice soft and sleepy. "Nightmare?"

He turned to face his wife, hazel eyes meeting brown ones. "Just the opposite. I had a dream about Angie. She was getting commissioned and talking about BUDs."

"Awww, don't jump the gun, Commander." She leaned in to kiss him softly. "We have a few years. But with Grace and Casey graduating and Dylan coming home in uniform…"

"No surprise what triggered the dream," he said with a crooked smile. As he spoke, they heard the sound of small feet padding down the hallway, followed by the distinctive tap of Angie's hand on their bedroom door.

She burst into the room at the "Come in" with an excited giggle. "Good morning, Mommy and Daddy! 'Morning, Cammie, I'm on a mission today!"

Steve grinned at Catherine as Angie shared her plan. She, DJ, and Joan were going to make breakfast for everyone.

"Operation breakfast!" She announced and Catherine chuckled. "Well, that's a mission I can get behind. What's on the menu, baby girl?"

"Pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs! Oh, and orange juice, too!"

Steve couldn't hold back a smile at her usual enthusiasm. "Sounds like a plan. We'll come and help in the kitchen. No stove until an adult is downstairs, give us a couple of minutes."

"Okay! We woke Aunt Mary and Uncle Aaron and Aunt Deb up, they're getting ready for breakfast," she called over her shoulder as she headed back into the hall with Cammie at her heels.

Catherine shook her head with a chuckle and followed Steve out of bed as they got ready for the day.

In the kitchen, DJ and Joan were gathering ingredients. He placed mixing bowls and utensils on the island, while Joan set out a pitcher for juice, her laughter floating through the air as the three kids told Mary, Aaron and Deb the menu.

Before entering the room, Steve leaned against the doorway, watching the three kids with a small smile. His eyes drifted to his sister, Aunt Deb and Aaron.

Catherine, reading his thoughts, wrapped her arms around his bicep and gently squeezed. "Family," she whispered and he nodded before they stepped into the kitchen. Rubbing his hands together he said, "Rollins and McGarrett reporting for duty on operation breakfast," making all three kids grin.

As the children began their breakfast mission, Steve's mind drifted back to the dream. He glanced at Catherine, who was handing Angie blueberries to add to the pancake batter while Aaron assisted Joan with lighting the grill where she and DJ began to fry bacon. "Phase one of operation breakfast is going very very good," the almost seven year old announced and he flashed on the image of a grown up Angie saluting on the grounds of the academy.

Catherine shot him a smile before the adults stepped back to watch the kids working together.

"We did it!" Angie exclaimed, placing a plate of pancakes on the table.

"Everything looks delicious, darlings," Deb said. "Thank you."

Catherine leaned over, planting a kiss on each child's cheek. "Your mission was a success."

"It was Angie's idea," DJ said and Joan nodded with a proud glance at her little cousin. "It was, then we helped decide on the food."

Steve chuckled and whispered, "Natural-born leader," to Catherine.

Later in the morning, the family's surfing time was interrupted by Steve's phone.

McGarrett," he answered, his expression turning serious as he listened to the voice on the other end.

"We have a …" he glanced at Deb, then Joan before finishing, "situation. I have to go."

Catherine nodded, saying, "Be careful," as he lifted his surfboard from where it was anchored in the sand.

"I will," he said, leaning to peck her lips before kissing the kids goodbye. "Have fun, you guys, I'll be back ASAP."

Angie hugged him. "Be careful, Daddy."

With a last glance, Steve left the house, his mind focused on the hostage situation Duke had called in.

After what seemed like hours, the team diffused the situation. The hostages were safe and the threat contained.

Steve breathed in the early evening air when he stepped out of the building and told Danny, Chin and Kono to head home; HPD would get the hostage takers down to the DEA officers who had outstanding warrants on them.

"Is Dad going to be home soon?" DJ asked Catherine when she ended a call with Steve.

Catherine smiled. They'd come inside after lunch when the weather began to turn. "He's on the way, he'll be back in a little while."

"Awesome." He smiled. "Maybe we can have a game night." He looked out the living room window at the sky. "It's definitely gonna keep raining."

Just then, Cammie alerted, the front door opened, and Steve strode into the house. "I didn't miss dinner, did I?" He asked while bending to kiss the kids' heads.

"No, we were going to order pizza," Mary answered, "Our treat."

Steve wrapped an arm over her shoulder and smiled. "You don't need to do that…" he began, but his sister held up a hand. "We want to. Now, everything or pepperoni?"

"Whatever the kids want is good," he said with a wink at Joan. "Angie and I will eat any and all toppings." He headed for the stairs to lock up his weapon. "I'll be right down."

"Daddy!" Angie called and he turned on the landing. "We're gonna do game night 'cause it's raining. I won rock, paper, scissors to pick first and I picked …"

"Disney Monopoly," he said with her and she giggled uproariously. "

"I'm going to make it a Monopoly mission!"

"Your current favorite game, how did I guess?"

"Cause you know me very very good. "

His grin morphed into a soft smile as the squared away Ensign Angie McGarrett of his dream flitted through his mind. "I definitely do, baby girl."
