Long ago, before man kind ever existed, there were, dinosaurs. Large reptiles that seemed to be poised to rule the earth for all eternity.
And there was a herd currently nesting, and many mothers caring for their eggs. The herd consisted of many types of dinosaurs. It included Pachyrhinosaurus, Edmontosaurus, and a single Iguanodon.
Pachyrhinosaurus was a medium sized centrosaurine ceratopsian. It's most defining feature was its huge, bony mass, or lump, on its face. It was about 20 feet long and about 10 feet tall.
Iguanodon was known to stand on its hind limbs, and yet normally walk on all fours. If attacked, it could dissuade a predator with its powerful thumb spike.
Edmontosaurus is part of the Hadrosauridae, or duckbill family of dinosaurs, who are known for their distinctive teeth - or as paleontologists call it, their "dental battery". On each side of the jaw are three rows of sixty or more perfectly interlocking teeth.
When the Iguanodon's family was killed by predators before it even hatched, the neighboring Lemurs took him in when the egg traveled to their forest.
Plio is the mother of the Iguanodon. She cared for him every since she first found him. However, her father, Yar, was distained at first, and wanted to get rid of the dinosaur. However, even he found him cute, and wanted to keep him. And when he found that the dinosaur was a pure vegan, he fully accepted him.
One Lemur, Zini, is often a trouble maker. He is most noticeable from his golden yellow fur coat, unlike his family, who all have white fur.
The youngest of the lemur family, is Suri. She is only five years old, well, in lemur years, and is very sweet and innocent. She is proud to be a part of her family.
All was quiet in the land. And many of the dinosaurs were grazing on ferns and bushes. The young dinosaurs all played amongst each other. One little Edmontosaurus was chasing a bug through the valley, and into the forest. She let out a cute little roar at the bug, and it flew up, and landed on a tree branch. However, this branch seemed to be different. It looked bumpy, with a strange color on it. Then, some water fell from the branch, and onto some bushes.
The Edmontosaurus looked up, and saw a head, with massive sharp teeth, looking through the trees. The baby then ran out of the forest, crying out, and the dinosaurs all stopped eating, and looked up, to see the baby Edmontosaurus calling out.
However, at that moment, a giant dinosaur came rushing out of the brush, roaring up a storm. It was a Saurophaganax!
The giant theropod stomped through the field, and saw the baby Ankylosaurus below it. Too small to be food. So, it just ran past the baby, and towards the adults. The dinosaurs were already stampeding away, and the Saurophaganax let out another roar.
It had found it's prey: an old Pachyrhinosaurus lagging behind the rest. However, before it could make the kill, it was rammed to the side by something. The Saurophaganax got up to see what hit it: a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal carnivore with a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Relative to its large and powerful hind limbs, the forelimbs of Tyrannosaurus were short but unusually powerful for their size, and they had 2 clawed digits.
The Tyrannosaurus and Saurophaganax butted heads, and shoved against each other. However, the T. Rex was much larger and heavier, and was able to push the intruder back. The Rex managed to get a bite onto the back of the Saurophaganax, and was slowly crushing the ribs and spine. The smaller carnivore roared in pain, as the T. Rex ended the life of the predator with a loud crunch. It then dragged it off into the trees to feast.
"Yeesh," said Zini, "Gets really gruesome."
"Just wait," said an Edmontosaurus, "That's gonna be us someday."
A single Pachyrhinosaurus followed the T. Rex into the trees. She found the T. Rex laying down, the carcus untouched.
"Hey Seth, you okay?" asked the Pachyrhinosaurus.
Seth turned to see her, and said, "Oh, hey mom."
The Pachyrhinosaurus laid down next to him, and said, "Something's wrong."
"No, nothing's wrong," said Seth.
"You have a dead dinosaur here untouched," said the Pachyrhinosaurus, "You don't eat when something's wrong."
Seth sighed, "It's just... I've defended this herd for so long, I just... don't know why they can't trust me. I only go for other predators, and rival herds, and they still talk bad about me."
The Pachyrhinosaurus then gently nuzzled Seth, saying, "Seth, when I adopted you, and you hatched, everyone was in shock. But I didn't see a monster. I only saw a baby in need of a mother. I didn't care what the other dinosaurs said about me, or you. You also helped defend the nests from egg thieves, and scared off predators roaring into a log. Remember that prank on Edna?"
Seth chuckled, "Yeah. Although, I feel Aladar doesn't quiet... understand me. He does inter act with me, but... he seems to be defensive at times."
"Seth," said the Pachyrhinosaurus, "I want you to know, I will always be there for you. Never think once, that I will abandon you."
Seth smiled, and nuzzled his mother, saying, "Thanks for the talk mom."
"I'll leave you to eat," said the Pachyrhinosaurus, "Just, please don't be too messy."
Seth nodded, and the Pachyrhinosaurus left the forest, leaving the Alpha Predator to eat.
