Note to Readers: In the World of Walker, this story takes place between On My Way and Alone, Pt II. In PAW Patrol, it takes place between the 25th and 26th episodes of Season 1. Also, this story is titled as a 'regular fanfiction' because there doesn't seem to be a category for music video and cartoon crossovers.
Morning in Adventure Bay never fails to disappoint. The bright sun shined over a large gleaming tower that looked over the city. This tower was the Lookout, home to the PAW Patrol, Adventure Bay's trusted protectors.
It was a fine morning for the PAW Patrol. As there were no missions for them yet, Ryder, their leader, gave the pups room to play and do whatever they wanted. Zuma, Rocky, and Rubble ran around outside, playing tag, whilst Marshall, Skye, Chase, and Ryder stayed inside. Marshall and Skye were watching something on the TV, Ryder looked at something on his pup pad, and Chase tried to read a particularly large novel that belonged to Ryder. After a chapter or two, he gave up and slammed the book shut.
Ryder looked up from his pup pad and glanced at Chase. "Hey, Chase, why don't you go outside and play with the other pups?" he asked him.
"No, thanks, Ryder," said Chase. "I feel like staying inside today. Besides, it's kinda hot outside," he added.
Ryder nodded. "I understand, Chase," he said and returned to his pup pad.
Chase looked around and saw Marshall and Skye, who were searching for something on the TV. A video, perhaps.
Chase got up and went over to them, but not before brushing his top fur and clearing his throat. Chase has always had a big crush on Skye, the team's aviation pup, and unbeknownst to him, the rest of the team, including Ryder, already knew of his secret.
So when Marshall heard him clear his throat, he already knew who it was.
"Hey, Chase," said Marshall without turning around as Chase walked over to them.
Chase stopped abruptly. "How did you know it was me?" he asked.
Marshall simply rolled his eyes. Chase didn't see this.
Skye, hearing what Marshall had said, turned around, her heart beating. Nobody knew that Skye had a crush on Chase, despite her occasionally flirting around with him. Of course, she didn't know that Chase had the same feelings for her, too.
Skye saw Chase and smiled at him. "Hi, Chase!" she said, beaming.
Chase grew slightly pink in the face. "Um... hi, Skye," he managed to reply. "What are you and Marshall doing?"
"Just trying to find a video on YouTube," replied Skye. She glanced back at the TV. Chase also looked at the wide screen and saw videos being flicked from one to the next. He noticed they were all about one thing: some archaeologist who would be coming to Adventure Bay.
Why would they be interested in something like this? Chase thought to himself, curious. They never mentioned having a liking for archaeology before.
Suddenly, Skye shouted, "Marshall, that one! No, not that one, the one on the left, yes, that..."
Marshall clicked on a video Skye had pointed at, and it began to play. Chase, still looking, saw that it was a news report with the headline, "Famous Archaeologist Arrives at Adventure Bay."
A news report? Chase thought, even more curious. This does seem interesting. But who is this 'famous archaeologist'?
Eager to hear what the video had to say, Chase sat himself down between Marshall and Skye (he fidgeted a little at the prospect of sitting next to Skye) and began watching the video with them.
"A few weeks ago, officials announced that worldwide-known archaeologist Lily Cadieux will be coming to Adventure Bay for reasons she has kept private," a male news reporter said as the video showed a young woman wearing a black hood and mask moving her way through a crowd of excited people. "Yesterday, she arrived at Adventure Bay Airport to a mass of reporters, eager to hear why she had come to the coastal town."
The video cuts to the woman speaking to the camera, a microphone being held underneath her mouth as she talks. Chase could see the woman more clearly now; brownish-black hair was visible underneath the hood, and she had bright blue eyes. However, Chase didn't understand why she was wearing a mask, and when she spoke to the camera, he was surprised to hear her speak in French.
"I won't say why I have come," subtitles said below. "Although I will say that it is based on my research on the Ancient Walkers."
Chase was puzzled. This news report was becoming more and more confusing.
"Cadieux, otherwise known as #28300, made herself known in 2013 when she made archaeological discoveries in France," the news reporter continued. "These discoveries included mysterious advanced objects that were thousands of years old. According to her research, Cadieux claims these discoveries are all related to a lost advanced civilization now known as the Ancient Walkers. After her discovery, she gained worldwide publicity, and together with the Red Nexus Corporation, the unearthed artefacts are displayed at the Walker Excavations, a museum in France for all findings related to Cadieux's discovery."
"Stop calling her Cadieux," Chase heard Skye say through gritted teeth.
"Although it is unknown of the reason behind the archaeologist's departure, we shall hope she stays safe during her visit and hopefully finds what she is looking for."
The video ended. As soon as it did, Skye snatched the remote from Marshall and turned the TV off. She sighed. "At least he called her something other than Cadieux," she said, saying the name with dislike. "I can't stand that name."
"What's wrong with it, Skye?" Marshall asked her.
"I just don't like it when people are called by their last names," Skye reasoned. She turned to Chase. "So, Chase, did you like it?" she asked him, her tail wagging.
Chase almost forgot he was there. "Oh, um, yeah, it was good," he responded, hoping he wasn't blushing. "But... why were you even watching that?"
"Because Lily's the best!" exclaimed Skye, doing a backflip. "She made a discovery so huge it could rewrite human history as we know it!"
"In other words, she's a big fan," Marshall told Chase.
"A huge fan," Skye corrected him.
"Yeah," agreed Marshall. "A huge fan."
"Are you a fan of Cad - I mean, Lily, too?" said Chase, nearly saying the name Skye despised.
"Well, not as big of a fan as Skye, but, yeah," admitted Marshall.
Just then, Zuma, Rocky, and Rubble entered the Lookout, exhausted from their game of tag.
"Whew!" said Zuma, flopping down onto a cushion. "That was some game, dude!"
"Hey, guys," Marshall greeted them.
"Hey, Marshall," replied Rocky. "What have you been doing?"
"Just watching a video about Lily with Skye and Chase," Marshall told him.
"That archaeologist Skye likes?" inquired Zuma.
"Yeah," said Marshall.
"Wait, you know about her, too?" asked Chase. Zuma nodded. "Why am I the only one who's never heard of her before?"
"I'm pretty sure I've told you once, Chase," said Skye. "Or twice."
"Well, you haven't, because I never knew anything about Lily until now."
"Lily?" said Rubble through a mouthful of dog biscuits. "Who's she?"
"The archaeologist who found all those cool high-tech artefacts in France," Rocky told him. "Remember? The one that Skye likes a lot."
"Oh, yeah," said Rubble with a grin.
"She's amazing," Skye sighed empathically. "My idol."
"Your idol?" repeated Zuma. "I thought Taylor Swift was your idol."
"She's my second," Skye corrected him. "Lily's better. She never gave up on her research, not even when her theories were pushed away from the academic circle. She dedicated all her free time to proving her idea, which many people thought impossible."
"Wow," Chase marvelled. "I can see why you'd choose someone like her as your idol."
Skye nodded. "Yeah. Lily's a brilliant person."
As the pups continued talking about Lily, Ryder looked up from his pup pad and noticed a black Smart Forfour pulled up in front of the Lookout. The door opened, and a figure in black got out of the car. Seeing this, Ryder put his pup pad away, got up, and made his way to the clear automatic sliding doors of the tower.
Chase noticed Ryder getting up and asked him, "What is it, Ryder?" causing the other pups to stop talking and look in his direction.
Ryder looked at them. "It's okay, pups. There's just a car parked outside. Maybe whoever's inside it needs our help."
The pups looked through the doors as they slid open for Ryder and saw the black car and the person who had just gotten out of it. Looking closely, they saw that the person was a woman, as quite long hair was visible underneath the hood she wore. The woman saw Ryder as he approached her, and she began talking to him, her and Ryder's voices inaudible to the pups as they spoke.
"Hmm," said Rocky. "I wonder who she is."
"Yeah," agreed Chase. He stared at the woman, feeling as though he had seen her somewhere. "I think she looks familiar."
"That's because she is," said Skye behind him.
"Um, Skye?" asked Zuma. "Are you okay?"
Chase looked behind him. Zuma was waving his paw in front of Skye's face as she gaped at something. She blinked when she realized what Zuma was doing.
"I'm fine, Zuma, fine," she said as she knocked his paw away. "But that woman..."
"Does that mean you know her?" said Chase before Skye could drift off into space again.
"I know who she is," replied Skye. "And you do too."
"D - do I?" asked Chase, confused.
"You do, Chase," said Skye firmly. "Otherwise, who was it you just watched on the TV?"
Chase gasped. He wasn't the only one. Rocky, Rubble, Zuma, and Marshall all gasped in shock at what Skye just said.
"Skye, are... are you sure that's... her?" Marshall asked her uncertainly.
"I could recognise her from a mile away," Skye confirmed.
Chase looked back at the woman, who was still deep in conversation with Ryder. He tried to find any characteristics about the woman but failed. That was until the woman looked right in the direction of the pups.
Chase saw the bright blue eyes as the sunlight reflected on them and the brown in the woman's black hair. Not only that but as Chase continued to stare at her face, he saw that it matched the face of the young woman he just saw on the news report. That only meant one thing.
Lily Cadieux was in front of the Lookout.
