Regulus finds out that Peter is a spy in the middle of a death eater meeting.
Regulus's point of view
Every death eater meeting is the same: the dark lord talks about how muggleborns and half bloods are below us. Which is ironic coming from him since he is a half blood and he expects us to follow him even though he called himself below us. Then he proceeded to tell us about how much we messed up on the missions in between this meeting and the last. He tells us how we are all failures and how worthless we are and how we would all be lost without him. Except my cousin Bella. She's his right hand so of course she could do nothing wrong. A few rounds of the cruciatus curse, never as strong as what mother used, but still left me with lasting twitches. Then he tells us what the next mission is. Which concludes the meeting and we all disperse to get ready for our next mission.
All meetings have been that way until today. I sat in between Evan and Barty and across from Snape as always. The meet started the same except there was someone new at the end across from Bella next to the dark lord. We couldn't see who it was since they kept the hood on throughout the entire meeting. He also got the same treatment as Bella. The Dark Lord was happier than he usually was throughout the meeting. But he still was mad at everyone else about small mistakes we made on missions except Bella.
"Now my friends, I know this is usually how the meets usually end but I'm sure you are all wondering who the new person at this meeting is. Peter," The Dark Lord started when he said Peter. I thought the name sounded familiar but there is no way it could be him. "Will you remove your hood so everyone can see our new spy in the order." As soon as Peter removed his hood I realized that I was correct that it was my brother and my lover who had been betrayed by someone they thought of as their best friend. I also realized that I was fucked. "Also Wormtail here has let me know that someone here is no longer loyal to me. That someone here has been spilling our secrets to the order. The person was smart and never said their name or showed their face in the orders meetings. There is one main suspect currently. It's the main cause of his connections to the other side. I mean there's his brother, his ex and a few of his friends from school except two in the order. So he's probably the most likely person to be the spy." As soon as he said that I knew he knew I was the spy. But he kept drawing it out like he wanted to be on edge until he outright asked me. He was playing mind games with me hoping I would break. " Won't you say you are the most likely suspect of being the spy Regulus?" All eyes turned towards me.
I tried my best to keep my composer cold as if he didn't just get everything right about me being the spy. "I would have to agree with you. I am the most likely suspect. But I haven't spoken to my brother since he left to live with the Potters. Plus there is a reason Potter is my Ex and we are no longer together." When I look towards the Dark Lord he doesn't look like he believed me. But before I could continue the Dark Lord interrupted me.
"The only way to truly know for certain and to find out who is the spy is for everyone to answer questions under Veritaserum, Snape did you bring it like I asked?" \
"Yes my lord." Snape responded as he got up and brought the Veritaserum to the Dark Lord. At that point I knew there was no escape for me. Barty and Evan looked at me with concern in their eyes.
"Thank you Snape. I think the first person should be Regulus. What do you think Reggie?"
"I couldn't agree more, my lord." I said through gritted teeth.
"Very well then come over here to take some Veritaserum and get strapped to the chair. Just incase you are a spy." I got up and walked over and drank some Veritaserum and got strapped down into the chair. The question began once I got stapped. "Do you know who the spy is?"
"Yes" I respond having no control over what I respond to the questions.
"Could you tell us who the spy is?"
"Yes."
"Who is the spy Regulus?"
"I am." As soon as the words were out of my mouth all I could feel was pain, worse than my mother ever did, run through my body. I couldn't hold back a scream no matter how much I tried. After what felt like eternity it finally stopped.
"You dared to lie to me, you filthy traitor." Everyone was looking at me with a disgusted look on their face except Barty and Evan.
"Yes."
"I'm going to make you regret ever being born and ever disobeying me."
"My mother already did that…" Before I could finish what I was saying another wave of pain washed over me and continued until I blacked out.
No one's Point of view,
"Crouch. Rosier. Take him down to the dungeon, and take his wand. I will deal with him later. Everyone else leaves." The dark Lord said before disappearing in a cloud of black smoke. Everyone but Evan and Barty left.
"Barty, we have to get him out of here."
"How. You saw what the dark lord did to him just for giving the order information. It would be worse for us since we are helping someone he sees as a traitor escape. We can talk to James and Sirius. But we can't help love." Barty responds as they unstrap and pick up Regulus.
"I don't like this."
"Neither do I but this is what we have to do." They bring Regulus to the dungeon as they were asked. They leave to find James and Sirius to get them to help get Regulus out.
James and Sirius
James was working on trying to learn new spells to try against the death eaters. As well as worrying about Regulus as the spy. One wrong move could cost Reg his sanity or his life. If they ever found out that he was with the order it would be really bad. James knows that Sirius is worried about his brother even if he doesn't show it.
Sirius was watching Remus read, ignoring everything else in the world. But he was also nervous about his brother even though they didn't have the best of relationships since he went to hogwarts. But him being the spy has made him worry about Reggie more than when they were at their wretched childhood home.
One second it was just the two of them in the room, then two of Regulus's friends, Barty and Evan, showed up out of thin air.
"Listen before you call the arours or before you try to kill us. We are here to talk to you about Regulus. We know he's a spy he told us when he started to be a spy for you guys. In fact half the information he gave came from the two of us. The Dark Lord found out that Regulus is a spy and it's bad. He needs your guys help we want to help but if we try it would end worse for us." Evan said as James and Sirius pulled out their wands.
"Why should we trust you two you guys are death eaters? For all we know you could be leading us into a trap." Sirius retorted.
"So is Peter Petigrew and you still trust him. Oh wait you guys didn't know that did you? That's how the Dark Lord found out about Regulus Peter told him that there was a traitor in his ranks and the dark lord's first thought was "your brother and your boyfriend." Barty snapped. "We could have just left him there but instead we came to you two. Two people who we know don't like us and people who we don't like because of how you treated Reg until a few years ago."
"Fine, we believe you for now. If you don't mind, tell us where Regulus is now so we can get him out." James said before Sirius could snap back. "Wait, what did you say about wormtail?"
"He's a spy for the Dark Lord. He was at the meeting today and the dark lord said that we have a new spy and how Peter told him that there was a spy for the order there." Evan responded to James since it seemed like James and Evan were the only two not actively trying to kill the other.
"Ok we'll deal with later right now let's worry about Reggie. Where is he exactly?"
"He is in the Lestrange dungeon first cell. That's where we put him so that it would be easier for you guys to get him." Pain went through both Evan and Barty's mark. They look towards each other knowing that the dark lord wants them back and he seemed angry, "We're being called, we have to go."
"If you ever need a way out just let us know."
"We all know it is impossible to leave the death eater alive. But thank you for the offer though. Just get Reg to safety please."
"We will."
Before they leave Evan gives James Regulus's wand. And just as quick as they showed up they disappeared. As soon as they were gone James looked at Sirius. "We have to get him out now before it's too late."
"I agree but how are we supposed to do it?"
"You heard Evan, they did everything they could to help us out without risking their lives. I say we go to Lestrange dungeon, beat up any death eater we see and free Regulus."
"James I love I do but your plan has so many holes it will never work. One of the main things is that you are putting all your trust into Rosier and Crouch. For all we know it could be a trap. Plus they are saying that Peter is a traitor. Which is impossible, he is the complete opposite of all the other death eaters."
"We can never be too sure for all we know he might. He has been missing all day and like Evan said they had a meeting. Plus lately he seemed to have been distant with us. But first we need to worry about Regulus. Even if they were lying about Peter, we can't risk Reggie. For all we know he might be with the dark lord right now going through who knows what. We can ask him once we get him back if Peter joined the death eaters."
"Fine but we are going to need some help" Sirius responded while looking over at Remus.
Regulus
When Regulus started to wake up he had no idea where he was or who brought him there. The more he looked around he realized he was in the Lestrange dungeon.
"Look at who's finally up. It's the traitor." The Dark Lord's voice came out of nowhere. "You know Regulus you had great potential in the death eaters and just threw it away. For a Brother that didn't even want you. He replaced you as soon as he could."
"Your wrong"
"Oh poor Reggie we both know I am correct. He replaced you with that Potter boy. He left you in that house. Knowing what would happen. Does that seem like someone you want to risk your life for." The Dark Lord crouched down close to Regulus's face. "I also know you brought Rosier and Crouch into your little scheme and they will be punished greatly for that."
"They had nothing to do with this."
"We both know that they did. I also know for a fact that they are with your brother and Lover right now asking them to come and save you. In fact let's call them back," The dark lord took Regulus's arm which regulus tried to pull away but was unsuccessful as the dark lord raised his wand to the mark to call Barty and Evan to them. In less than 30 seconds both of them showed up and bowed down to the dark lord ignoring their friend. "I know you two have been helping Regulus give information to the order. I also know you were just with Black and Potter trying to get them to save this weak excuse of a pureblood."
"My lord. We did no such thing. A traitor to you is a traitor to us." Evan stuttered out.
"Isn't this cute the three traitors trying to save each other." Before the three of them had time to process what he said, pain washed over them more intenses than they'd felt minus Regulus who felt this much during the meeting. After what felt like an hour it finally stopped. "Now why do guys keep lying to me? You really think I can't tell when you are lying and when you are telling the truth? I am stronger than the three of you could ever be. I'm going to kill you three but before I am going to break you to the point you are begging me for death. There is no escape." Before they could move the dark lord tied them all to the wall hanging just high enough where their feet also could touch. "Since I know how close the three of you are I'm going to start with Barty, the lover and the brother that never left."
"No. Do me leave them out of this they had nothing to do with this it was all me." Regulus screamed trying to get the dark lord's attention off of his two friends. "They knew nothing about what I did." The dark lord pointed his wand towards Regulus and created a gag around Regulus's mouth.
"We all know that is a lie, Regulus. Clearly we can't trust anything you say unless you are under Veritaserum." The dark lord turned his wand toward barty mankind, large cuts going across his body. Blood gushing out of each one he made. Before he used the cruciatus curse again. Both Evan and Regulus tried to look away from one of their closest friends getting tortured but they couldn't since their heads were tied to the wall making them watch everything.
Out of nowhere there was a loud crash causing everyone to freeze. After a few seconds of nothing Barty and Evan got a gag around their mouth preventing them from talking and screaming."It seems like Potter and Black have arrived to save you too bad by the time they find you're going to be broken." Extremely intenses pain washed over them to the point that they wanted to scream but they couldn't because of the gag. The dark lord left them like that knowing that Potter and Black brought backup and he didn't want to get caught. He also knows that Rosier, Crouch and the younger Black will be broken by the time they are free.
James and Sirius
As soon as they got to the Lestrange manor they realized that no one was at the manor except someone screaming at the top of their lungs as if they were being held under the cruciatus curse. Everyone looked toward Sirius to see if it was Regulus but he shook his head that it wasn't. They still creeped around quietly in case someone else was there. They were able to convince Moony and Lily to come help them. They decide not to ask Peter incase Barty and Even were correct.
James accidently knocked something over causing the screaming to stop. Everyone froze, not knowing if the person torturing the other was coming to find them. After a few seconds no one came looking for them and they continued down to the dungeon. When they got there in the first cell, just like Barty and Evan said, they saw Regulus shaking uncontrollably with a gag in his mouth and hanging from the wall. But when they got closer they saw that Evan and Barty were in the same position. The only difference was that Barty had deep cuts that were gushing blood.
Remus, Lily, James and Sirius all stood frozen not knowing what to do any more. They just watched as the three 18 year olds were hanging on the wall in pain they kept convulsing and squirming. The four older realized how young the three of them really are. That they were just child soldiers cause they joined 2 years ago. Regulus was first to join, his parents forced him to join. Evan joined after for the same reason. Barty was the only one not forced to join. He joined to support his friends so that they weren't alone. But they were just kids.
Sirius was the first to break out of the shock. He went to Regulus first. He undid the ropes holding him up on the wall then did the counter cures to the cruciatus and Remus started doing the same thing for Barty and Evan. The three young ones still were shaking from the after effects of the cruciatus curse. One Lily, SIrius and Remus were able to get the gags out of their mouths Regulus, Barty, and Evan passed out.
"We have to leave now before they come back." James said once he got out of his shock.
"James is right. We have no idea how long we have before they come back. We can heal them once we get back to the house." Remus agreed with James as he wrapped Barty's gashs around his body.
"There has to be a way we can help them now!" Sirius shouted as he held onto his little brother. "We have to help them now because they are not responding to anything."
"Sirius there is nothing we can do while we are here we have…" James started before he was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"James, Sirius Remus what are you guys doing here?" Peter asked them.
"Reducing Reggie and his friends? How did you know we were here?"
"Because the dark lord sent me to seacure the prisiours and transfer them to a location."
"Barty was correct, you are a spy. We trusted you. You are the reason my brother is in pain." Sirius yelled before attempting to launch himself at Peter before James stopped him.
"Sirius, we can deal with him later. Right now our concern is Reggie and his friends." Before Sirius could respond or before Peter could react James shot a stunning spell towards Peter stunning him. "We have to leave now."
"Fine. But next time I see him. He's mine."
"I'm ok with that, we just need to make sure they are ok first. Ok everyone we are going to meet at the same place we met before coming here." James took Barty and apparated back to the leaky cauldron . Lily showed up carrying Evan next and then Sirius carrying Regulus. Remus showed up a few minutes later with bloody knuckles.
"We need to let Dumbledore know that Peter betrayed us. We can't let any more information get back to voldemort." Remus started to say as he started to set Regulus,Barty and Evan up so that they could watch them and check up on them when they needed to. "Lily, can you send a patronus to Dumbledore to have him come so we can tell him in person." Before he could continue, Regulus woke up screaming and backing up toward the wall. Before Barty and Evan woke up in the same predicament as Regulus.
