Opening another box and then another, Gemma lets out a soft but heavy sigh as she prepares to take all three tests over with her to use them. Maybe they'd all be negative but Gemma really had no way of knowing without taking them.
It was now or never.All Gemma needed to do was wait.
Chapter 2: The Unexpected Shock
Gemma paced back and forth on the bathroom tile floor, she's done all with the tests; they said they'd take 5 minutes she sets the timer, it's the longest 5 minutes of her life. Just when she thinks she's about to go crazy the timer goes off making her jump out of her skin, swallowing hard as she glances over nervously at the sticks on the counter she sees two lines in the window putting her hand over her mouth in shock, but smiling joyfully whispering "Oh my god" She starts crying happily "I'm pregnant" she announces to herself.
How was she going to tell Nero though? And how would he react to the news? Would he be happy, excited, upset that he wasn't there with her to know the news immediately? Dialing his number, Gemma waits for him to answer. Within moments Nero picks up. "Mama, what's wrong?"
"Can you come by the house? I need to tell you something and would rather it not be over the phone," Gemma tells him.
Nero pauses for a moment hearing what Gemma has just said, he has a million thoughts running through his head about what she possibly has to tell him What if she's sick, what if it's something serious, what if she wants to end our relationship. Gemma is worried as the silence at the other end is still there "Nero, baby are you still there?" Nero rubs his hands over his face then answers "yeah I'm here, I'll be right over"
As Gemma waits for Nero to arrive she walks into the kitchen, feeling a bit nauseous she looks around in the cabinet hoping she's got some saltine crackers she does, grabbing the box she takes out a pack opens them up and starts to munch on them praying the nausea lightens up; as she continues to eat the crackers she goes over to the refrigerator, opening it she scans the inside until she sees what she's looking for ginger ale she grabs the can cracks it open taking a small sip.
Nero gets to the house within a few minutes, rushing in, stops in his tracks when he spots Gemma sitting alone at the dining room table with her head down, she looks up at him with a blank look on her face she doesn't know how she's going to tell him the news, but she knows she has to.
Putting down the ginger ale and crackers in her hands she gets up from the chair walks over to him and takes his hand, Nero is getting a nervous feeling in his stomach especially since Gemma hasn't said a word since he rushed into the house.
She motions to the chair "sit down" she says. Nero does as she sits back in the chair she was just sitting in, taking a deep breath well it's now or never, Gemma her mind says. She looks at him clearing her throat "I'm pregnant, Nero" Nero looks at her shocked eyes widen a little although he has to ask the question "Are you sure?" As he wasn't expecting that type of news, but then again in his mind Gemma probably wasn't either. Gemma nods her yes "I took 2 tests, they were all positive" getting up slowly from the table she walks into the bathroom, grabs the two tests handing them to him: they all have two lines on the sticks.
After a few moments of silence Gemma speaks "Listen, I'm just as shocked as you are about this, I didn't want to tell you over the phone because I was scared of how you'd react, Nero I want to know how you feel about this, I don't want to force you into this, but I want to keep this child and I hope you do too because it's ours"
Nero smiles at her taking her hand and kisses it "Baby, I'm not gonna lie when I say that I'm shocked by this news, but I love you and I want this child as much as you do, I'm so happy I think that Lucius is gonna be happy to have a little brother or sister" Gemma smiles as a sigh of relief washes over her face. they kiss softly as a happy silence comes on them as they let the news settle into their lives.
"And so will Jax," Gemma says with a soft smile. "It'll be weird given the gap between their ages, but he'll be happy nonetheless."
"He will, mi amor" Nero says, leaning up to kiss her forehead. Gemma and Nero continue making small talk about her pregnancy and the baby when Gemma's phone rings. She groans, grabbing the phone from in front of her and looking at the caller ID she sees it says Wendy. Debating if she should tell Wendy about her pregnancy she lets it ring again before pressing the talk button. "Hello?"
Wendy is in the kitchen making lunch for herself while Abel is down for a nap in his crib. "Hey Gemma, how it's going? Are you feeling any better?" Wendy asked while she stirs the macaroni in the pot.
Gemma chews on her fingernail nervously as Nero looked confidently nodding his head. Gemma clears her throat ignoring her daughter in law's questions, Gemma changes the subject "I have something to tell you, actually. I was wondering if you and Jax could come by my place as soon as possible?" she asks hoping she can just tell them and get it over with.
Wendy doesn't know what to think and the fact that Gemma completely ignored her questions when she first called she thinks in her mind this has got to be serious if she needs to tells us something but can't over the phone Wendy shakes off the thought then answers, "Sure we can come over after dinner as I'm making it now and Jax isn't home yet. Is that okay?"
Gemma looks over at Nero he just nods his head "Okay then see you guys soon." With that said she hangs up her phone wondering how in the hell she's going to tell them this.
