"Do you have keys for these things, vampire?" Xander asked. "I'm strong, but I'm not strong enough to break the half an inch of solid iron the cuffs are made of."

"My name is Angel." The vampire answered, he handed Xander the key to the cuffs.

"That's a girl's name last time I checked."

"It's short for Angelus."

"He of the Angelic face? That's as bad as William the Bloody Awful Poet."

"You've had the displeasure of meeting Spike." Angel said.

"He threatened Mrs. Summers. Bad idea. And his girls seem to want to kill me. First that blond bitch that Amy took out and then Brother Luca said that crazy Dru chick would be gunning for me. But she disappeared after the Master's last abortive attempt to escape a year and a half ago. Haven't heard anything from either of them since."

"Why would Darla want to kill you?"

"Was that her name? It pissed her off that I destroyed your counterpart. I am in another reality right? You people wouldn't happen to know where that Hellmouth thing is, do you? Demons keep wanting to open it, but we keep stopping them before they can even find it. If we knew where it was we could put a guard on it."

"It's under the school library." Buffy told him. "How did you stop the Master from rising and opening it? According to prophecy he was going to rise, so I went to stop him. He fed on me and then dropped me in a pool of water and I drowned. You revived me or your counterpart did, I guess."

"Why didn't you just destroy the Anointed One like I suggested? Our Buffy did."

"He could have escaped, Xander."

"So? Fighting him above ground means fighting in numbers and in the open, it would make destroying him much easier to deal with."

"I'm the only one who could fight him, Xander. It's my job, I'm the Slayer."

"It's not just your job, it's everybody's. We fight as a team and do just fine."

"The Slayer was created to fight vampires."

"Yes, by men. Mother Nature made me and Faith and hundreds of others like us. She also made normal people, like Jesse, who can be trained to fight."

"What exactly are you?" Buffy glared at him. "And apparently Faith?'

"We are Grimm. Genetically enhanced humans gifted with superior strength, speed, healing agility and inherent fighting capabilities. We see what is hidden in the dark and reflect the truth. An ancient and powerful bloodline dating back thousands of years. Our abilities activate anywhere from late teens all the way up to about age forty."

"That's not possible." Wesley said, from where he'd finally managed to gain his feet. "The Watchers Council would know. We fight evil."

"No you don't and you have no actual understanding of the world. There is far more going on then you have any idea of. The vampire over there has obviously heard about us. And the people we're responsible for. Ask him."

"Grimms are the guardians and when necessary, the executioners of the Wesen." Angel answered.

"Demons?" Wesley asked.

"Totally unrelated to demons as far as I know." Angel answered.

"And you'd be right. You ever encounter a Wesen, vampire?" Xander asked.

"Some, when I was still Angelus. The weak ones are as much prey as humans. And you can't tell the weak ones from the strong ones until they show their other face. I managed to get away from those ones."

"Other face?" Buffy asked.

"Wesen are para human. A werewolf would be one example." Xander answered. "Kinda, anyway. One you can understand anyway."

"And these creatures have managed to escape detection from the rest of the world?" Wesley asked, sceptically.

"They're not creatures, they're humans with a second nature, that of an animal or a bird or a fish or an insect. They evolved along side humans and were once as known about as vampires were. Gradually the world forgot."

"There would be some record!"

"There is, check the Watchers Chronicles, Giles found it. Not much, mind you and not really all that accurate, but it it is there. As for records elsewhere. Fairy tales, legends, stories, statues. For a hidden community there is a lot of information out there. It's just dismissed like stories about vampires are. Now back to why Faith was chained up."

"We were trying to help her, she's out of control." Buffy said. "Stealing and then killing that guy. She blamed me."

"Did you ask her why she was stealing?"

"There's no reason to steal, Xander!" Buffy said, exasperated.

"Yes there is, survival."

"Why would she need to steal to survive? That doesn't make any sense!"

"Ask her. Stop making assumptions and just ask, Faith, why are you stealing?"

"So I have money. Without money I can't pay for my room at the Lodge or eat or anything."

"The Lodge?" Buffy asked. "The Sunnydale Motor Lodge? Why are you living there, why don't you just get an apartment?"

"Please tell me you're just naive and haven't actually lost functional brain cells, Buffy." Xander said. "Because our Buffy seems a whole lot smarter than you."

"What does that mean?!"

"It means she has no support, no job and being what fifteen, sixteen right now, it would be hard to find a job that pays well enough for her to survive on."

"That makes no sense though." Wesley said. "Mr. Giles was her Watcher before he was fired for allowing Ms. Summers to date that vile creature, he was responsible for finding her a place and caring for her needs. I was under the impression he had done so."

"He hasn't." Faith said. "He barely talks to me. All he can see is Buffy."

"You came here for help after Professor Dormer was killed and didn't get any." Xander summed up. "Okay, so that explains the stealing, it's for survival. You're not a Slayer though, you're a Grimm. Before I head back home I'll put you in contact with the local Wesen Council representatives. Unlike the highly illegal Watchers Council, the Wesen Council has legal standing due to ties with several Royal Houses in Europe and several U. S. Presidents over the years. They'll make sure you have everything you need to survive. And unlike the Watchers Council they actually give a shit."

"The Slayer is the responsibility of the Watcher Council, you have not proven that Ms. Lahaine is one of these so called Grimms."

"Yes, the Slayer is the responsibility of the Watchers Council." Xander agreed. "After all you created her."
