"Okay, so the stealing is explained and the person she killed is explained. What's not explained is the chaining her up. Why do that?" Xander asked.
"We thought she was out of control, stealing, killing. We were trying to help her!"
"How does terrorizing someone who's already scared help them? And why not simply ask?"
"She lied about it being my fault. She could have lied about other things too. We were trying to get her attention and figure out if there was anyway to help her."
"There are far easier and less traumizing ways to do that. This way could only end badly. She'd be defensive, scared, a wild animal backed into a corner and looking for any way out and those idiot Watchers made things worse by breaking the law and trying to kidnap her on top of it."
"There can't be two Slayers in the world, one of them will become a danger." Wesley insisted. "We thought Ms. Lahaine killing that man meant she was becoming corrupted, we had to act."
"Wait a minute, what do you mean there can't be two Slayers in the world?" Buffy asked, confused. "Why would that be a problem, wouldn't more Slayers be a good thing?"
"They made you, Buffy, using Magic. They convinced themselves it was the will of the gods. They created a living weapon so they could claim they were fighting evil. You ever watch Star Wars?"
"I have." Angel said, the others looked at him. "What? I was bored."
"One of the characters fights evil with evil, it corrupts him. That's how they made you, Buffy, with something they took from a demon."
"Is that why I can see something dark in her?" Faith asked.
"Yes, it's the demon power. Unlike the vampire over there, who's got an actual self aware demon running the body, Slayers have power that came from a demon. When you died, another activated and it wasn't Faith. The Watchers Council either forgot or never realized, that when a Slayers dies, a piece of her soul is ripped out and used to activate the next Slayer and to protect their soul from the corrupting influence of the power. With your soul damaged, you're now more vulnerable to corruption."
"But I'm fine, there's nothing wrong with me!" Buffy protested.
"You're dating a vampire, a dead body run by a demon." Xander pointed out. "One it's been predicted that you will set free. Angelus was considered one of the most vicious vampires ever."
"But he has a soul! He doesn't feel like a vampire!"
"The soul blocks you from seeing the demon, Buffy, but I can see it and my counterpart probably can too. He's probably tried warning you, even if he doesn't understand what he's seeing."
"But he's jealous!"
"Maybe you're just dismissing him as jealous to avoid facing the fact there's something monumentally creepy about you being interested in a real vampire, after all they're nothing like an Anne Rice vampire. Including him. Like I said, rethink your life choices."
"This Drusilla could be wrong!"
"In over a century, both as a human and as a vampire, she never has been." Angel said softly.
"We just did a spell back home to protect Buffy's soul." Xander said. "You guys can do that too, after I'm gone. So let's get move on to figuring out how I got here. What happened just before I arrived?"
"I said, I wish there was someone in this town who actually cares about me." Faith said. "And something said, 'wish granted', and you were here. I guess you really care about me, other me."
"I'm not the only one, Faith. Professor Dormer gave up everything to protect you, she quit Harvard, the Council, became your legal Guardian and brought you here to learn about your heritage and train your abilities. She said if the Watchers Council tried to do to you what Giles did to Buffy, she would have shot them."
"What did Giles do to me?" Buffy asked.
"The Council doesn't want Slayers getting older, you're harder to control, so they created what's become a tradition for any Slayer that manages to get to eighteen. They call it the Tento di Cruciementum. Test of Torture. Giles put you in a trace, injected you with a compound that suppressed your Slayer abilities and locked you up with a psychotic Master with a hate on for mothers. The vampire taunted you with how he planned to go after your mother when he was done with you. You died, Amy gave you some of her life energy and you revived. Your mother refrained from killing him, she had him and Mr. Travers arrested instead. So much fun watching them being dragged away in cuffs. The Queen of England now knows about the Watchers Council and is taking them apart. Trust me, she's not happy, especially after she found out they had spies in her government. The President wasn't either when he found out. I'm sorry, Buffy, Giles betrayed you."
