A Few Notes for this chapters: To all of my readers so far as you know there hasn't been much drama at all so I've decided to change that in the coming chapters starting with this one so I hope you guys won't hate me for it. I hope my characterization for Gemro is still okay as I haven't watched the series all the way through in a while.
Anyway enough of my talking, on with the story...enjoy!
Previously On Big Surprise:
The two make small talk quietly, Gemma leans her body into Nero as he held her in his arms for what seems like hours when a ringing interrupts them "Is that yours?" She asks curiously as the phone continues to ring loudly. "No Mama, it's yours" Nero replies letting go of Gemma as she grabbed her purse taking out her phone checking the caller ID Wendy Gemma groans ugh are you serious right now? just what I need when I'm so happy another interruption she lets it ring one more time before flipping it open "Wendy, sweetheart what's going on, I'm not..." Gemma stops talking when she realizes Wendy's crying "Sweetheart what happened?" Gemma starts to panic "Gemma, you need to come to the hospital right now!" Wendy said through the crying "What-" Before the older woman can even ask anymore questions Wendy screamed "It's Jax!" Gemma drops her phone to the ground.
Chapter 7: Please Wake Up
Gemma is still sitting on the ground, Nero calls to her "Mama...Gem" Gemma is in so much shock that his voice seems miles away, finally after a few minutes his voice brings her back to reality "Gem, are you okay?" He asks concerned seeing the look on his fiancé's face Nero helps her up off the ground, he asks again "Baby, are you okay?" Gemma shakes her no "that was..Wendy, she said she needs me to come to the hospital..it's Jax"
Hearing this instantly Nero helped Gemma into the car, she numbly put on her seat belt as Nero quickly goes back over to where the basket, blanket are and Gemma's purse and phone, he hands them to Gemma through the window as he's puts the picnic basket, blanket and drinks in the backseat, closing the side car door Nero walks around to drivers side gets into the car puts on his seat belt and races to the hospital.
They get to St. Thomas hospital within a few minutes before the car even stops Gemma takes off her seat belt comes running through the automatic doors, Nero turns off the car, noticing Gemma forgot her purse and phone he quickly grabs it, then runs in after Gemma. Gemma reaches reception where the nurse is talking to the other doctors "Excuse Me?" She says impatiently. "Can I help you?" The receptionist Trisha says "My son, Jax Teller is..." Gemma stops talking when she spotted Wendy in the corner of her eye "Wendy" Gemma runs over to her daughter-in-law hugging her. "What the hell happened?" Gemma asks calmly as she looks at Wendy with her tear-stained face sitting down in the chair next to the younger woman, Wendy whose wiping the tears from her eyes finally speaks "Jax was on his motorcycle going to Stockton for club business and he got into an accident with his bike" Gemma takes all this in as Nero sits down next to Gemma giving her, her purse and phone then taking a hold of her hand. "Oh god" she runs off crying, Nero follows her she stops in front of the hospital chapel doors. Nero stands beside her taking a deep breath she pushes the door open quietly entering, Nero has his hand in hers they walk over to where the candles are and both light a few, getting down on their knees, bowing their heads they pray together hoping Jax will be okay.
Back in the waiting room the doctor has arrived asking Wendy where Gemma is, Wendy immediately calls Gemma whose still in the chapel, hearing her phone ring she flips it open on the first ring "Wendy, sweetheart, what's...going on?" Wendy replies "The doctor's here with me and wants to see you, tell you about Jax's condition" Taking a shaky breath Gemma sniffles "I'll be right there" Gemma hangs up the phone "We have to go, Jax's doctor wants to see me" Without a word, Nero gets up from the alter taking Gemma in his arms guiding her out of the chapel as they walk back to where Wendy is in the waiting room they notice she is talking to a doctor, must be Jax's doctor Gemma thinks in her mind. With her being 3 months pregnant now she is trying to stay as calm as she can for the baby's sake, but it hasn't been easy in these past few hours.
As Gemma and Nero walk closer to the pair she starts getting a nervous feeling in the pit of her stomach. They finally reached the doctor, Wendy looks over to Gemma "Gemma this is Dr. Ellen Hampton, Jax's doctor" Dr. Hampton puts out her hand to shake Gemma's, Gemma takes her hand shaking it "Nice to the meet you, doc" The doctor smiles "Nice to meet you, Gemma, now as Jax's mother I want to update you on what's going on and his condition" The doctor looks at Gemma, Nero and Wendy who are still standing there "Why, don't we all sit down?" Dr. Hampton motions to the chairs, all 4 of them sit down, Gemma has so many emotions running through her she doesn't know what to feel right now, her heart is beating so fast she thinks it's going to beat out of her chest.
Dr. Hampton again looks at Gemma thinking of how to explain to this mother in the simplest way possible that her child was hurt."Jax is in very serious condition, we have him on a respirator because he can't breathe on his own, he's on oxygen, we also have him on a lot of medication to help his heart and blood pressure stay stable and his CT shows that he's got swelling in his head even though he had his helmet on he still sustained a severe head injury" Gemma takes in this news quietly, putting her hand over her mouth. The doctor continues speaking softly "Wendy tells me Jax has a heart condition?" Gemma looks at the doctor, nodding her head confirming this "Well we're going to have keep a very close eye on his heart because all this stress won't help his condition, but for right now the medication we gave him he's stable in that regard"
After some silence Gemma asks the doctor "Is he in a coma?" Dr. Hampton clears her throat "yes a medically induced coma because of the swelling so hopefully that will bring it down, but if it doesn't go down in the next few days he could die also with his heart condition that's another thing we have to keep a watchful eye on as well" Gemma puts her hand on her forehead, Nero put his arm around her trying to comfort her "Mama, it's gonna be alright, he's gonna be okay" Gemma puts her hand on his, she sniffles wiping tears away "Can I see him?" Gemma asks the doctor as she stands up from the chair "Of course, this way" Gemma, Nero and Wendy follow the doctor down the hallway, Gemma holds onto the wall all the stress is getting to her she feels like she's going to collapse.
Nero grabbed Gemma helping her the rest of the way, the doctor stops in front of Jax's room turning to face Gemma, Nero and Wendy, she prepares the three of what they'll see when they go in, they nod in understanding, Dr. Hampton leaves giving them some privacy. When they enter sounds of monitors beeping and respirator hissing fill the room. As Gemma walks into the room, glancing at Jax's body laying there, tubes coming in and out of him so helpless she freezes her body can't move, closing her eyes this moment brings her back to the day when her Thomas died.
*Flashback*
April 4th 1990
Gemma's sitting in Thomas's room, holding his little hand while watching the meter for the heart monitor go up and down each time his would heart would beat, tubes all over him. Her mind isn't there, her tear-stained face is evident to anyone looking; her body is exhausted with grief, her baby was dying, but she can't bare to leave him, to have him die alone no matter how hard it is on her, this is her child, her little boy. She gets up from the chair and crawls into his bed, his frail little body still holding on as she lays on the bed taking him in her arms rocking him slowly, quietly whispering to him "I'm here with you, I'm not gonna leave" Gemma strokes his hair gently as his breathing becomes shallower and shallower, she knows he's slipping away "It's okay to let go, my little one don't be afraid" She kisses him on his cheek as he takes his last breath; Gemma watches the heart monitor go flat line, tears streaming down her face she whispers "goodbye my baby boy, I love you" covering him up with the little blue blanket she made him a while ago, she kisses on his forehead one last time...
*End of Flashback*
Gemma shook her head, slowly coming out of her flashback into reality, she finally gets the courage to walk over to Jax's bed, she sits down in the chair, taking his hand into hers "Hey, baby I'm here, so is Tara, Nero too we want you to stay here with us okay" She strokes his hair just she did Thomas closing her eyes the memory is so fresh in her mind.
For the next few hours Gemma, Nero and Wendy takes turns watching over Jax and talking with him. Finally Gemma can't take looking at Jax unconscious any longer "I need some air" She says to Wendy whose sitting beside her holding Jax's hand, Nero had to go back to work, he asked Wendy to keep an eye on Gemma, Wendy said she would. Gemma got up from the chair leaving her purse and phone in the room with Wendy as she runs out into the hallway towards the bathrooms pushing open the door, once she knows she's alone she starts crying uncontrollably, her body trembling as she slides down the back of the door. After a few minutes she calms down, but her stomach isn't so calm anymore between the stress of Jax being in the hospital and her pregnancy the baby isn't tolerating any of it, putting her hand over her mouth "Oh god" she quickly runs to the toilet everything she had eaten in the last few hours is coming up as she continues throwing up she feels a hand on her shoulder, she gasps turning her head from the toilet reveals Wendy she looks at Gemma sympathetically "Are you okay?" She asks with concern as she holds her mother in law's hair for her rubbing her back, but before Gemma can answer she starts dry heaving "ugh God" Gemma groans "You know I know you'd do this for me" Wendy says smiling "Yeah I would" Gemma smiles back at her "Thanks..I think I'm done now" Gemma slowly gets up from the toilet holding onto Wendy just in case dizziness sets in which is does
"Oh man" Wendy flushes the toilet as she holds onto Gemma guiding her out of the stall.
After a few seconds Gemma seems okay so Wendy lets go of her, going over to the sink she looks at her complexion, she's pale she groans as she rises out her mouth, then splashes some cold water on her face walking over to the dispenser she gets a paper towel from it and she blots her face dry, then throws the paper towel in the garbage can. The two women walk out of the bathroom together and back to the vigil in Jax's room.
Back in the room, sitting back down in the chairs they make small talk, Gemma asks "Who's watching Abel?" Wendy looks at Gemma "uh, Lyla, Nero said it was okay since he's got some other help at Disoa" Gemma nods "that's good" Gemma is nervously fidgeting in her chair while Wendy is pacing back and forth on the floor "Wendy, you're going to wear out the floor, sit down sweetheart pacing isn't going to help" Wendy is getting irritated "Gemma, please stop okay I'm not in mood for your commentary right now" Gemma stands up "Hey, you think I'm in the mood" making a point, Wendy exhales "Gemma, I'm...I'm sorry it's just..." Wendy starts crying, Gemma takes the young woman in her arms trying to comfort her "It's okay, baby...shh..."
Once Wendy calms down Gemma lets go of her "Feeling better?" She asks "a little bit, thanks" Gemma smiles "anytime, listen why don't you get Abel from Lyla's, go home take a shower and get some rest and I'll stay here with Jax for a bit longer before I go home myself" She suggested. Thinking about Gemma's suggestion, Wendy yawns "Looks like someone needs to get my suggestion after all" Gemma observed. Wendy sighs heavily "ha, ha very funny" Gemma smirks "I'm being serious" Wendy rubs her eyes holding up her hands not in the mood to fight with her mother in law "Alright, you win I'm not in the place to argue with you, I'll get Abel then go home and rest" Gemma smiles giving her a hug goodbye "good"
Wendy grabbed her purse from the chair, leaving Gemma alone with her thoughts...and Jax. Gemma doesn't like being alone, but at the same time she knows she's not. She pulls the chair closer to Jax's bed just watching the him and all the monitors, it's so quiet in the room it's deafening. Just then Jax's doctor comes in to check on him, checking his breathing and his heart rate, she spots Gemma watching her "He's still the same right?" Gemma smiles weakly at the news. The doctor puts her hand on Gemma's shoulder as she leaves whispering "Get some rest" Gemma closes her eyes, she is so drained, so exhausted, she feels another hand on her shoulder she looked up to see Nero beside her "Hey Mama" he whispered, greeting her. Gemma put her hand on his "Hey baby, what are you doing here?" She knows it's a stupid question to ask, but she's not thinking right at the moment. He looks at her strangely as she rubs her eyes trying not to fall asleep "Shit, I'm sorry I'm not thinking straight right now..I can't" Nero smiles "I know, it's okay" Nero pulls over a chair to sit next to Gemma "How's he doin'?" Gemma sighs "the same" Nero replies "That's good, right?" He asks taking her hand "Well it's not good, but it's not bad either..for now" Nero hands Gemma a bag "Thought you could use this, you and the baby must be starving by now and you need to eat" Gemma takes the bag from him looking inside she finds a salad "Thanks, babe, I didn't realize the time" Nero replies "You're welcome, here I got you some water to drink, Gemma smiles at him "Thanks, I don't think we're allow to eat in here so I'm gonna go out into the hallway" Nero motions her to go "I'll keep an eye on him for you" Gemma gets up slowly from the chair "Whoa" she sits back down as she becomes lightheaded and dizzy "Mama you alright?" Nero asks concerned "Yeah, I'm okay I just got a little lightheaded and dizzy when I stood up" Gemma gets up with Nero's help he walks over to the door opening it for her "You gonna be okay by yourself out here?" He asks from the doorway, she nods as she sits down in the chairs in the hallway by herself to eat, while eating she can't stop thinking about Jax I hope he'll be okay, I can't lose another child
Meanwhile Nero brought a book to occupy his time with Gemma and Jax, he starts reading it occasionally looking over his book at Jax, Nero also can't help thinking about Jax hoping he makes it for Gemma's sake. A few minutes later, Gemma returns to the room "feelin' better, babe?" She takes her vacated seat once again next to her soon to be husband "Yeah thanks, I needed that, so did the baby obviously" Nero chuckles knowing that answer already.
A silence befalls the couple as they sit in their chairs next to each other, Gemma is nervously chewing her fingernail, she needs something to do so she grabs her purse getting out her knitting needle and the blanket she's been trying to finish she starts to knit as Nero continues with his book. After a while Gemma speaks, "Nero?" She calls out, he can hear the exhaustion and pain in her voice "Yeah?" He replies "I'm so scared, this is like losing my Thomas all over again and I can't go through that again" Nero nods "I know, babe"
Gemma stood up from the chair, Nero follows her she turns into his body she starts to cry, he cradles her into arms "Hey Hey Mama, he's gonna be alright" he whispers as she's still sobbing, holding onto him, Nero rocks her when crying finally subsides although sniffing she chokes out "How do you know he's going to be okay, you don't!" she exclaims as she runs out the door pushing him away.
Nero runs after her, running to catch up "Gem?" he calls out, but she ignores him still running finally reaching the back doors of the hospital she pushes open the door sprinting out into the warm night air, trembling she puts her arms around herself as feels a pair of arms around her, closing her eyes she leans into the body "I'm sorry all this stress is getting to me" she whispers "I know" he whispers still having her eyes closed, Nero sways her back and forth trying to calm her down, he rests his hand on her stomach rub it gently.
After while Gemma turns into his body, opening her eyes to look at him, he smiles as she kisses him softly "Come on, pimp daddy let's go back inside it's a little too warm out here now" Nero nods takes Gemma's hand into his as they walk inside back to Jax's room. Once there they decide to leave to try and get some sleep as it's been a long day. Gemma walks over to her son, she bends down kissing him on his cheek "Night Sweetheart, I'll be back later okay" As she walks to the door she opens it leaning in the doorway she gazes at Jax one last time before leaving for the night.
They arrive home in a few minutes, Kayla is staying over watching Lucius, Nero had called her earlier to tell her what was going on so she said she'd stay with him and stay over night if she had to, Gemma is so tired she throws her purse onto the kitchen table and makes her way to the bedroom as soon as her head hits the pillow she's out cold, Nero walks into Lucius's room to check on him he's asleep as is Kayla on the floor beside him, he shuts the door quietly. Nero rubs his eyes tiredly as he walks around to Gemma's side of the bed and gently picks her up moving her over so she doesn't fall, then covers her up with the blankets as he crawls over her onto his side of the bed, getting under the covers falling fast asleep himself.
Gemma on the other hand is still asleep, but restless. Nero awakens to Gemma tossing and turning he gently shakes Gemma awake "Gem" he whispers "Mama, wake up" He calls to her a bit more louder, she bolts up from the bed, beads of sweat pouring down her face "Nero" she gasps looking over at him "Yeah, baby I'm here are you okay?" He asks as he sits up beside her, swallowing hard she shakes her head "No, I had a horrible dream" she says wiping the sweat from her forehead with her hand as Nero caresses her face "Do you want to talk about it?" He asks as he leans back into the headboard, rubbing his eyes, Gemma nods knowing Nero would never judge her nor make her feel as though she shouldn't share her feelings with him. "I..had a dream that Jax died" Nero sighs heavily between being half asleep and exhausted he doesn't know what to say. Nero clears his throat, pulls her close to him as she cries softly "Hey, Shh, baby it's okay I'm right here, I'm sorry you had the bad dream" Gemma asks honestly "Do you really think he'll be okay?" "Nero nods "Yeah, Mama he's strong just like you, he's been through so much already and he's gotten through that right?" Gemma nods "Yeah he has, you're right" Gemma kisses him "Thank you, baby"
Nero moves his finger underneath her chin making her look at him, he wipes the tears from her face Gemma mummers "I'm sorry for waking you up" "It's okay" He whispers. After some brief quietness Nero suggests "Do you want to try and see if you can get some sleep now?" Gemma nods yawns "Yeah I think I can sleep" Nero kisses her on her nose "Good because I need some sleep Mama, I love you, but I'm exhausted" Gemma smiles "Thank you so much for staying up with me and talking through all this" Nero rubs his hands over his face "You're welcome you're the only one I'd do this for" Gemma chuckles "I know" Gemma slides down onto her pillow, Nero put his hands back around her body keeping her close to him as she turns onto her side into his body, they kiss each other goodnight once again and fall into a peaceful slumber.
The morning sun brightly shines through the windows, Gemma and Nero are still asleep when the sound of a phone ringing shrills their slumber, Gemma groans turning over in the bed "damn, are you serious?" She says to herself as she grabs the phone pressing the talk button "Hello?" She answers groggily. "Gemma?" Wendy says into the phone "Wendy..sweetheart, it's 7am what's..what's going on is Jax okay?" Gemma asked as she sat up in the bed "I don't know Gemma, I haven't seen him since yesterday" she sighs then continues speaking while making Abel his bottle "sorry for waking you so early, but I was wondering if your going go back to the hospital sometime today?" Gemma looks over at Nero whose still sleeping beside her "Yeah, I was going later on why" Wendy spoke up "I was going to go and see Jax and being Abel, he won't know what's going on" Gemma gets up to make herself some tea as she's feeling a bit nauseous.
Gemma groans touching her stomach "Gem, you okay?" Wendy asks with concern "Yeah, I'm just a bit nauseous right now" Wendy frowns "I'm sorry, Gem" Gemma sat down at the table "Thanks ugh that's what I hate most about pregnancy" Wendy sat down with Abel feeding him his bottle.
Wendy rocks Abel as quietness comes between the two women for a few moments, but Wendy breaks it "Gemma, some of the guys were talking with me last night and they mentioned wanting to see Jax" Gemma is sipping her tea "Yeah they can do you know who wants to?" She asks as she reaches for some crackers from the cabinet. "um Tig, Chibs and Bobby" Gemma yawns rubbing her eyes "Okay"
Gemma's still munching on crackers listening to Wendy talk as she makes Nero some coffee, but the smell of the coffee is getting to her stomach, she tries taking some deep breaths hoping her nausea will pass, she feels a pair of hands around her waist, kissing her she turns her ear away from the phone, looking at him "Hey, Good Morning" She smiles "Good Mornin', you okay?" She shakes her head "No, I'm nauseous and that coffee smell isn't helping" Nero touches her stomach "Hey little one, be good for mommy" Gemma chuckles "You know the baby can't hear yet, babe" Nero smiles "I know, but that doesn't mean I can't talk to it right?" Gemma smirks "Of course you can" With that Gemma goes back to her phone call with Wendy "So yeah, I can go then with you, are the guys gonna be there then?"
Gemma asks sits back down with Nero as he drinks his coffee.
Wendy is trying to get dressed while still talking with Gemma "Yeah I think they'll be there too"
Gemma goes into Lucius's room she gently shakes him "Lucius, baby wake up" she whispers, Lucius groans opening his eyes "Gemma" Gemma smiles "Yeah, sweetheart you've gotta get up" Lucius smiles as Gemma helps him out of his bed and into the kitchen "Hey Mijo" Nero greets his son, kissing him on his cheek "Hey, dad" Gemma goes back into Lucius's room to wake up Kayla "Hey, time to get up" Kayla smiles at the older woman "I was already up" Kayla nods in understanding as she gets up from the floor heading for the kitchen leaving Gemma alone.
Gemma goes into the bathroom to brush her teeth just then her phone rings shit she mumbles to herself "Can someone hand me my phone, please!?" She yells from the bathroom; Nero runs to the bathroom handing Gemma her phone "Here, babe" Gemma smiles "Thanks" she says as she answers it "Hello?" She recognizes Wendy's voice "Hey, sweetheart sorry I didn't call you back, I'm going to the hospital in a bit okay" Gemma spits the toothpaste into the sink. Wendy agreeing " Yeah alright, I'll just meet you there" With that Gemma hangs up her phone.
Gemma stands at the sink again taking deep breaths as her nausea has returned this time worse then it was a few minutes ago "Damn it" she says to herself, meanwhile Nero, Lucius and Kayla are all at the kitchen table when Nero asks Kayla where Gemma is "I think she's in the bathroom" Nero gets up from the chair and goes to bathroom to check on her "Hey, Mama" Gemma looks at him, he notices she's very pale "oooh, you don't look so good" Gemma looks at him offended "Thanks a lot, asshole" Nero comes further into the bathroom "Come on, babe that's not what I meant" Gemma groans "I'm sorry, I'm still really nauseous again, I wish this morning sickness would go away already" he asks "Can you move?" Gemma looks at him like he's crazy "Yeah right, why do you think I'm just standing here?" motioning to the sink. Nero puts his hands up "Alright, I get it, is there anything I can do to help make you feel better?" Gemma sighs heavily "No, not really" Nero chuckles as he tries to gently set her onto the floor "You're enjoying this aren't you?" She asks as she holds onto him "No, I'm not"
Unfortunately her stomach nor the baby is tolerating the moving "Oh!" Gemma exclaims holding her stomach as she put a hand over her mouth as the bile rises into her throat, she kneels, leaning her head into the toilet as she starts throwing up, Nero crotches down on his knees keeping her hair away from her face and rubbing her back.
Back in the bathroom, Gemma has finally stopped throwing up "Feeling better, babe?" He asks as he gets a cup of water from the sink, handing it to her, she takes a small sip "I don't know how I feel" She answers hoarsely. Nero helps her up slowly from the floor holding her so she doesn't fall, he flushes the toilet putting the seat down, then sits down on the toilet while Gemma sits in his lap, they stay like that for a few minutes with Nero making Gemma isn't going to get sick again "I think I'm done throwing up" Nero kisses her on her forehead "Good, cause I hate seein' you sick like that, Mama" Gemma lightly hits his shoulder "Hey! How do you think I feel?" Gemma gets up from Nero's lap and brushes her teeth to get the vomit taste out of her mouth and takes a few more sips of her water to calm her stomach down.
"You know since it seems we are always in the bathroom together, maybe we should start living in here" he joked
She looked at him, scoffing "Baby, that's not funny!" she exclaims a bit offended he could even think that way and she starts crying softly.
"Come on, Mama, I'm sorry it was a joke, don't cry" he whispers, kissing her on the cheek, while wiping her tears from her face with his fingers.
She can't stay mad at him for long, sniffling looking at him again and smiles "I'm sorry, I'm just so sensitive right now" she explains "I know, I was just trying to make you feel better, but I know that wasn't a good thing to say" he says, continuing "Do you forgive me?" he asks, smiling, she sighs "If you go and get me some ginger ale and crackers, please" she whispers, moving her face closer to his kissing him softly before letting go "Okay sure, but you have to get up" she groans, slowly getting up from his lap and slowly sits down on the floor next to the toilet meanwhile in the kitchen Nero walks to the kitchen quickly grabbing a can of ginger ale from the fridge and a pack of crackers from the box and goes back to the bathroom going in where he finds Gemma sitting on the floor next to the toilet, he bends down handing them to her. "Here you go, baby" he says "What are you doing?" he asked curiously, sitting down next to her on the floor "Well I figured being in eating and drinking this stuff would be better than going into the kitchen and having to run back in here again" she says, exhaling deeply "Mm, good idea" he says, nodding, Gemma opens the can of ginger ale taking a drink from it next opens the packet of crackers eating a few "Do you want some?" she asks "No you two need that" he says, truthfully just watching her more in love with her than ever before. Nero drops her off at TM and goes onto work himself.
Gemma walks into the office suddenly remembering she forgot to take her medication for her heart and her pre-natal vitamins "Damn it" swearing to herself, grabbing her purse, pulling out the two pill bottles, she sets them on the desk in front of her she pops the heart pill into her mouth taking a drink of the ginger ale Nero got her earlier to wash it down, she groans as pill goes down her throat, then pops the vitamins in her mouth "ugh more nasty shit I gotta take" she comments as the pills go down her throat again as she continues washing them down with her ginger ale.
Once her pills are taken, Gemma begins throwing herself into her work it's what she does when she doesn't want to think of what's going on in reality. Gemma is working on the computer in her office when Tig comes in "Hey Gem" he greets her. "Hey Tig, what's going on?" Tig sits down in the chair beside Gemma's desk "Nothing, did Tara tell you that me, Bobby and Chibs are gonna go up to the hospital later to see Jax?" He asks somberly. Gemma looks at him sadly "Yeah, yeah she did" Tig sighs heavily "Jax's been through enough shit Gem now this" Gemma nods "I know" exhaling deeply, Gemma changes the subject "Tig, I got work to do here before I go back to the hospital so do you mind?" She motions to the door "Yeah Gem, I'll gotta go to Stockton with the guys for a bit handle some shit" Tig gets up and leaves closing the door behind him.
Gemma's so in grossed with her work she doesn't realize the time "Damn it's 3 already" she says astonishingly looking at her watch, going into the kitchen she makes herself a sandwich, got some fruit and decides she has enough ginger ale to wash down her meal with. Sitting down at her desk she starts with her sandwich first, eating it slowly a few minutes she's done, she takes a drink of the ginger ale as she puts a piece of pineapple on her fork and eats it, then takes some cantaloupe to eat; after 10 minutes she's done eating lunch, wiping her mouth with a napkin she throws everything away in the garbage, then walks over to the sink to wash her hands because they are greasy from the food she had just eaten, after that she goes back to her desk.
Another hour goes by, Gemma is nervous, frustrated not to mention worried about Jax, rubbing her hands together she paces around the room, her stomach is in knots and the baby isn't liking it too much "I know baby, Mommy isn't helping you right now" she says talking to her stomach, rubbing it trying to calm the baby down, it finally calms down a bit, Gemma's happy about that she sits at her desk numbly rubbing her hands over her face getting up she closes the door putting her hand over her mouth she starts crying uncontrollably.
After a few minutes, Gemma breathes deeply, drying her tears with a tissue, clearing her throat she gets up from the chair, grabs her purse and phone and heads to the hospital. Arriving there 15 minutes later, she briskly walks up to Jax's room, she notices Tig, Bobby and Chibs and Wendy are already there.
The guys hug Gemma as she takes a seat in the empty chair next to Tig, no one knows what to say, the quietness is already driving Gemma crazy and she hasn't even been in here 5 minutes. Gemma breaks the silence in the room "Any change since you guys have been here?" Gemma already knows the answer, but feels like she still needs to ask just to ease her mind if that's even possible. They all shook their heads no.
While sitting there, Gemma leans her head back in the chair thinking back to when Jax was a little, he was a sweet kid, a great brother to Thomas, she couldn't imagine her life without her only son...Gemma walks over to her son's bed, she sits there on the side just staring at him, she brushes his blonde hair away from his forehead, whispering in his ear "Baby, you have to wake up, I need you here with me" Gemma places her hand on her forehead, trying not to break down in front of her son "I can't lose you, please sweetheart come back to me"
