While sitting there, Gemma leans her head back in the chair thinking back to when Jax was a little, he was a sweet kid, a great brother to Thomas, she couldn't imagine her life without her only son...Gemma walks over to her son's bed, she sits there on the side just staring at him, she brushes his blonde hair away from his forehead, whispering in his ear "Baby, you have to wake up, I need you here with me" Gemma places her hand on her forehead, trying not to break down in front of her son "I can't lose you, please sweetheart come back to me"

Chapter 8: We Got Through It

Two Weeks Later: June 8th

It's been a couple of weeks since Jax had his accident, he's had ups and downs, but he's still unconscious, still in the coma. Gemma has been by his side as much as possible. Right now she is sitting in his room watching over him as usual, putting the finishing touches on her baby's blanket after a few minutes she's finally done with it, it's beautiful she can't wait to wrap her baby in it, she puts the blanket in her purse so it doesn't get lost.

As Gemma moves the chair closer to Jax's bedside his monitor goes off "I need some help in here!" Gemma yells, the doctors and nurses rush in as does Wendy hearing Gemma's frantic voice from outside the door.

Dr. Hampton and her team try to stabilize Jax "His blood pressure is dropping" the nurse says "His heart rate is erratic" Dr. Hampton says as she gives him some medicine to calm his heart rate down, it doesn't work. Gemma backs away in shock, she can't believe this is happening "oh my god" she whispers putting her hand over her mouth, tears are streaming down her face. Wendy puts her arm around her mother-in-law trying to comfort Gemma's trembling body "It's gonna be okay"

As if things can't get any worse Gemma hears the words no mother wants to hear "He's in v-fib, he's crashing, get the paddles" Dr. Hampton yells to the nurse, and she obeys rushes outside to get the crash cart bringing it into it to the room, they charge the defibrillator"charge to 200" Dr. Hampton says putting the pads and paddles on Jax's chest and unplugging the tube "give him some epi and atropine" The nurse does charging the defibrillator again "and charge to 300" they shock him "asystole" they shock his chest again "clear" Dr. Hampton looks at the monitor "sinus rhythm, he's back" Dr. Hampton put down the paddles on the cart then plugging his vent back in then turns to face Gemma "He's okay, he's stable now" the doctor says taking the pads off his chest.

Gemma is still scared to death, as is Wendy, but she can't be weak right now because Gemma needs her so she focuses on her "See he's okay now" Wendy assures her as she guides Gemma back down into the chair. After a few tense moments, Gemma is calm now looking over at Wendy "Nero and I are engaged" Wendy smiles at the news "Wow, congratulations I'm so happy for you two, at least something good is coming out of all this" Gemma sniffles "Yeah, but I'm not all that happy right now I'm just so damn sad" Wendy takes her hand "I know, but it'll get better soon I hope" Gemma replies "I hope it will too"

Gemma and Wendy make small talk for a bit then Wendy has an idea "Gemma, you want play cards or something?" Gemma raises her eyebrow at the suggestion "Do you have any cards?" Wendy nodded "Yeah in my purse" The older woman shrugs her shoulders "Okay, sure" Wendy gets the cards out of her purse as Gemma brings over the table to them, Wendy put the cards on the table "What do you want to play?" She asks, Gemma thinks for a moment "Go fish" Wendy smiles "Okay...go fish it is" Wendy mixes up the cards, then deals them to her and Gemma, they both pick up their cards holding them close, Gemma glances at her cards, peering at Wendy across the table "Do you have any 3's?" Wendy looks at her card nodding her head "No, do you have any 4's?" "Yes" Gemma replies handing the cards over to the younger woman "Do you have any 5's?" Wendy hands Gemma the cards "Do you have any 6's?" Gemma asks "Ye..." Wendy stops mid-sentence when the open to Jax's room opens revealing more of the guys coming to visit "Hey guys" The guys all say "Hey" to Gemma and Wendy "How's Jax?" Rat asks "The same, but earlier he did have a crisis..he stopped breathing, they had to shock him back with those paddles" Gemma answers, she looks at all their faces "Shit" Rat comments as some of the guys sit in the extra chairs and some stand "So, how are you guys holding up?" Both women look at him "I'm guessing that look means not very well" Chucky comments "Damn, he's smarter then I thought" Wendy chuckles at Gemma's comment.

The guys one by one go over to talk with Jax letting him know they are all there for him when he wakes up. Gemma and Wendy have stopped playing Go fish for the moment because Gemma figures she should tell the guys the news of her engagement to Nero. "Guys..." Gemma starts they all look at her giving her their attention "I'm glad you're all here because I gotta tell you something" They all ask "What is it, Gem?" Gemma looks all of at them "Well, Nero and I are engaged" They all smile at her "Congratulations, Gem, Nero's a good man can't wait for the wedding" They all agree "Thanks, guys the wedding won't be for a while obviously" They all understand "We know, Gem, got get through all this shit first" Gemma glares at Rat's comment "Gee, Rat thank you so much for bring that up again" Half-Sack smacks him "Ow, man what did you do that for?" Rat looks at them confused "Dude, Gem doesn't need to be reminded about all this she's having a hard time as it is" Rat shakes his head "I know" Half Sack replies "Then shut up and sit down, man" Rat groans, but doesn't say anymore he goes to sit down.

The group talks among each other quietly, except for Gemma, Tig sits down next to her putting his hand on her shoulder "Gem, you okay?" Tig asks concerned. Gemma looks at him "No, I want my baby to wake up" Tig rubs her arm comfortingly "I know he will" He says looking at Jax's body, but at the same time trying to make Gemma feel better "Gemma looks over at him again "But when?" She asks trying to keep her composer. Tig sighs "I don't know, Gem" He says honestly as he put his hand on top of hers for a split second, he stands up from the chair and goes back over to the guys to talk.

Gemma decides to get out of the room for a bit "I'm going to go outside and take a walk I need to stretch my legs" She announced to the group, Wendy looks at her as about to open the door "Do you want me to come with you?" Wendy offered, Gemma thinks about Wendy's offer for a moment "Sure" Gemma opens the door, Wendy walks out first, with Gemma following her behind her, they fall into step with each other as they walk down the hallway together.

As the two continue walking down the hallway they spot Nero coming towards them, Gemma smiles as she sees him "Hey baby" she hugs him tightly he goes the same to her, he moves over to Wendy giving her a hug "Hey" She says. "I heard from Gemma that you guys are engaged, congratulations" Nero looks at Gemma "Yeah I told her and the guys too" Nero smiles "Oh how did the guys take it?" He asks curiously "Really well they all love you so I wasn't surprised by their reactions" All three of them sit down in the chairs outside with Gemma sitting in the middle while Nero and Wendy sit on each side of her "So Nero how's work going for you?" Wendy asks as Nero puts his hand on Gemma's knee rubbing it "It's good, I got Lyla coverin' for me again" All the sudden Gemma starts crying "Hey, Hey babe what's wrong?" Nero asks concerned although he probably knows why already, but he doesn't like seeing Gemma like this.

Gemma puts her hand on her forehead as she looks down at the floor, Nero rubs her arm trying to get her to talk to him. "Mama, hey you need to calm down the baby isn't gonna like this if you keep on cryin'" Gemma whispers "I'm sorry" Nero gets up from his chair and goes to get Gemma something to drink "Here, drink some water"

Meanwhile back in the room the guys decide to leave giving Gemma, Nero and Wendy the rest of the time with Jax. The three of Wendy, Gemma and Nero go back into Jax's room, it's quiet again with only the sound of beeping from Jax's breathing and EKG machines. Gemma is so frustrated, tired and drained that she doesn't know what to do anymore she wants to scream, but doesn't because that wouldn't help at all.

Gemma doesn't want to sit, but she doesn't want to stand either, Nero comes over to her wrapping her in his arms, she holds onto him leaning herself into his body she doesn't want to let go, Nero pushes her hair back from her face with his fingers as he sways her, Gemma closes her eyes he's hands rest on the small of her back, Wendy on the other hand is sitting down in a chair by Jax's bed holding his hand whispering "Abel needs you, Jax, I need you" tears start to stream down her face "I love you so much"

After awhile Nero gets go of Gemma "Hey, let's go get somethin' to eat in the cafeteria" He suggests "Okay" She agrees. "Wendy, sweetheart, Nero and I are gonna go to the cafeteria for some food" Wendy nodded her head "Alright, I'll keep an eye on Jax's" Gemma and Nero leave the room.

On the way to the cafeteria, Gemma's feet start to hurt, Nero stops walking asking "What's wrong, Mama?" Gemma sits down in a nearby chair "My feet hurt in these boots" she says grimacing as she takes them off her feet. Nero sat down next to her "Here, let me" he says taking her feet onto his lap rubbing them gently "mmm" She closes her eyes contently "That feels good" Nero continues rubbing them a bit longer "They feel better now?" He asks, she nods "Yeah, thanks" Gemma puts back on her boots.

As they are walking, Nero points out "I noticed when I was rubbing your feet that they were swollen" Gemma nods "Yeah I know..I think it's just the pregnancy and not the meds doing it" Nero looks at her curiously "You sure?" Gemma yawns "Yeah, well.. no I guess it's a little of both, man I'm tired already" Nero smiles "hmm I see that, I think the two of you need a nap, after we get back from the cafeteria all three of us can take a nap together" he says placing his hand on her stomach rub it gently, Gemma laughs incredulously "You're kidding right? There's no room in there" Nero clarifies his statement "Nah, I meant at home in our bed" she smiles flirtatiously, patting his chest.

They step into the elevator, Gemma presses the 3nd floor button, the door opens, stepping out they walks the little ways it is to the cafeteria, Gemma takes Nero's hand as they look around trying to find a table to sit at, finally she spots one "Over here, babe" Nero follows her to the table they sit down together "Do you want anything to eat, Mama?" He asks. Gemma nods no "No, but I guess I should eat" Nero kisses her "That's my girl, what do you want?" Gemma thinks about this a moment "something simple, like maybe a sandwich, oh can you get me a pickle too" Nero chuckles "uh no, cravings already?" He questions "No, I just want a pickle is that okay with you?" Nero shrugs his shoulders "okay" Gemma stays at the table while Nero goes to get Gemma's lunch "Thanks, Sweetheart" She yells out he's walking away.

Nero arrives back at the table quickly "Here, Mama" he said handing her the sandwich "I also got you an apple and your pickle" Gemma smiles "I love you" Nero sat down "Got your some juice to drink" He says putting the bottle in front of her. Gemma kisses him "How did I get so lucky?" Nero puts his hand up "I don't know"

Nero watches Gemma eat while they talk, but Gemma avoids discussing Jax. Nero understands this and let's it go because he knows Gemma's already going through a lot, he doesn't want her stressed out. After a half hour Gemma's done eating "Ready to head back?" Nero asks standing up from the chair, Gemma gets up taking Nero's hand, throwing her garbage away on their way out.

They get back onto the elevator, pressing the 4th floor button, the elevator stops on the 4th floor, they step off and head back to Jax's room. They open the door walking in quietly, Wendy greets them "Hey guys" Gemma and Nero both greet her "Hey, sweetheart, any change?" Gemma asks hoping Wendy has good news, Wendy nodded her head "No, Gemma I'm sorry wish their was" Gemma drops her head down sadly. Gemma puts her hand on Wendy's shoulder "I'm gonna go get some sleep" Wendy looks at her watch seeing it's only the afternoon "Gemma it's only 3pm" Gemma sat down "I know sweetheart, but I'm tired, so is Nero, we really haven't gotten much sleep these past few weeks plus I need my sleep remember I'm pregnant" Wendy understands "Yeah me either so I get it, I'm gonna stay here with Jax" Gemma yawns "Okay, call me later"

Gemma and Nero get their things from the chairs, Gemma kisses Wendy on the top of her head as they leave "See you later" she whispers. The two arrive home 10 minutes later to an empty house, Gemma and Nero start to panic until Gemma finds a note on the kitchen table it reads:

"Gemma and Nero, I took Lucius to the park, then we're going to get ice cream, thought you guys could use an empty house for a bit, see you later, Kayla"

Both are relieved "For a second there..." Gemma starts "I know" Nero nods " Ready for that nap?" He asks let her go first "Yep definitely" Nero falls into step with Gemma as they walk to their bedroom, Gemma gets into the bed first she doesn't change her clothes, but does take off her boots, Nero gets into the bed beside her. They both sigh, Gemma turns over on her side facing Nero, he does the same facing her, he moves over close, kissing her passionately slipping his tongue into her mouth, she's already getting aroused as he begins to touch her face caressing it with his hands, he moves down her neck, biting down on it gently, Gemma moans as he pulls away her shirt from her body, her bra is still on, but she takes it off, his touch on her breasts makes her shiver.

Gemma pulls Nero on top her, he gently squeezes her nipples, she grimaces "Ow!" Nero looks at her with concern "You okay?" Gemma pushes his hands away "They hurt" motioning to her nipples, he kisses her lips "Sorry" he whispers as she cups his face in her hands "It's okay" Nero takes off his shirt then rolls off Gemma, but is still beside her, his hand roam down her stomach to her jeans, unbuttoning, and unzipping them, his hand moves into her panties feeling around, he feels her wetness, Gemma gasps, arching her back as his fingers slip inside her moving them in deeper and deeper, Gemma moans with each thrust "Don't stop" she says, Nero obeys her giving her more and more pleasure until she climaxes onto his fingers.

Gemma pulls him closer again "You do realize for that you are going to have to be punished" She whispers seductively. Nero smiles as he trails kisses down her neck and chest as Gemma slips her hand inside Nero's pants gently touching his member and tip, he groans "Babe...God" he whispers panting, Gemma gently continues pleasuring him until he cums on her hand, taking her hand out, she whispers "You took your punishment very well" Nero asks flirtatiously "Yeah?" Gemma smirks "Oh yeah"

The two leave their shirts off although Gemma puts her bra back on, they are cuddling each other when all the sudden Gemma feels some fluttering in her stomach "Oh my god!" she exclaims happily placing a hand on her stomach, Nero looks at her "What is it, Mama?" Gemma puts his hand on her stomach "Feel that?" Nero nods "Yeah, what is that?" Gemma starts to cry tears of happiness "It's our baby, sweetheart, it just moved" Nero's shocked "Wow, that's a weird feeling" Gemma nods "Yeah I know" Nero put his hand back on Gemma's stomach hoping the baby will move again for him, it doesn't. Gemma kisses him "Don't worry, babe you'll have plenty more time to feel it" Nero sighs "Yeah that's true" he says disappointed, but yet happy that he'll be able to feel it a lot more. After some time the couple finally falls asleep with Nero still having his hand on Gemma's stomach protectively, while Gemma has her hand around Nero's waist.

6pm

The back door slams shut, Gemma opens her eyes slowly to the sound, groaning she untangles herself from Nero's body "Damn" she whispers to herself, Nero is still asleep, her hands caress his face, but he doesn't move just mumbles something incoherently. Gemma gets up from the bed careful not to wake Nero, putting her on her robe she walks into the kitchen "Hey guys" she greets Kayla, Lucius and Abel who in his carrier "Here let me take him" Kayla hands Abel to Gemma "Hey, baby" She says tickling him, he giggles, she kisses him on his cheek.

Gemma hands Abel back to Kayla "I've gotta wake up, Nero" She says disappearing into their bedroom. She walks over to the bed sitting on it shaking Nero gently on his shoulder "Baby, wake up" Nero opens his eyes staring at her "You are so beautiful, Mama you know that" Gemma crawls over to him and kisses him "I love you" She whispers "I love you too, Gemma" He smiles getting up from the bed, putting his shirt back on "Did you have a good nap?" She asks putting her arms around him "Yeah, of course" He puts his arms around her kissing her forehead.

A Week Later:

It's still been stressful for both Gemma and Nero another week with Jax still not awake yet, but they are sticking to a routine, Gemma's really hoping Jax will wake up soon. As usual Gemma's still throwing herself into her work, while Nero is too, but he's taking all of this in his stride and being calm for Gemma's and their baby's sake.

It's a few hours later now it's night time and still warm outside. Gemma decides to go and see Jax. She grabs her purse and phone. As she's walking out to her car she spots Nero coming toward her "Hey" she greets him as he lightly put his hand on her stomach "How's the little one?" Gemma smiles "Just fine" Nero asks "Has it moved anymore?" She looks at him sadly "No, baby" Nero's face is sad "Aw, I was hoping it would have" Gemma kisses him "I know, but trust me it'll be moving a lot more in the coming months" Nero expression changes "Really?" Gemma nods "Yeah...I'm going up to the hospital again to see Jax I'm really hoping he'll wake up" Gemma walks to the car, Nero follows her "Let me drive you there" He offers "Okay, thanks" She hands him the keys, she gets in the passenger side while Nero gets into the drivers side both put on their seat belts and head to the hospital.

It's a quiet drive to the hospital for the couple with Gemma's mind stressed and Nero trying to be strong for her there's really nothing for them to talk about. They arrive at St. Thomas within a few minutes Gemma unbuckles her seat belt, Nero does the same, Gemma grabs her purse and gets out of the car, she waits for Nero grabbing his hand they walk into the hospital without words, they get on the elevator press the button for the 4th floor, they step off walking until they reach Jax's room, Nero pushes the door open, letting Gemma walk in, she greets Jax "Hey baby, I'm back" she whispers kisses him on his cheek then sits down next to him, as Nero sat beside her putting his hand on her thigh rubbing it.

The door opens both Gemma and Nero look over to see Wendy still in the room, seconds later the door opens again and Dr. Hampton walking into the room checking Jax's vitals, she looks at the three of them, "I have some good news we took Jax out of the medically induced coma a few hours ago, we also did a head CT to check for anymore swelling and it's gone" Gemma and Wendy run over to the doctor giving her a hug "Thank you!" Gemma says. Dr. Hampton "You're welcome, I'm glad he's getting better, he should wake up very soon" Dr. Hampton shakes all of their hands and leaves.

After a few moments Gemma looks over at Wendy smiling " I have some more happy news I felt the baby move for the first time" she announces, Wendy hugs her happily "Gemma that's amazing, congratulations!" She exclaims as Gemma laughs and cries at the same time she wipes her eyes with a tissue "I'm sorry..damn hormones" she apologizes. Wendy smiles sympathetically "It's okay"

Wendy clears her throat changing the subject "So anything else new with you guys?" Gemma and Nero both both nod "No, nothing" Gemma says. All three sit in their chairs each thinking things Jax, I love you, please wake up, the boys miss you so much Wendy thinks. I hope Jax wakes for Gemma's sake because she can't handle anymore Nero thinks and Gemma thinks Baby, I need you to wake up for me, I can't take much more stress, these three weeks have been hell on all of us, so please if you wake up I think we can all heal and go on with our lives once again

From her chair Gemma looked up to see Jax move just a little bit, her heart leaped with joy "Wendy?" Gemma calls as Wendy glances over at Jax she also sees him move. Jumping up from her chair Gemma grabs Jax's hand "Jax, it's mom if you can hear me open your eyes" She commands "Come on, baby you can do it, don't be so stubborn" She encourages, the waiting is driving Gemma crazy, looking at Wendy she can tell she's feeling the same way.

Just when the two women think nothing more amazing can happen it does, they watch as Jax's eyes slowly open...Gemma's so happy she's crying as is Wendy, tears streaming down their faces "Hey, baby" Gemma sniffles wiping her face. Relieved and ecstatic all three pull each other into a hug "We did it, we got through this in one piece" Gemma whispers.
