Previously On Big Surprise:
A few minutes later Nero comes over to Gemma wrapping his arms around her waist kissing her neck whispering "Are you ready to go and see our baby girl?" she turns herself in towards his body laying her head on his shoulder whispering hoarsely "yes" he takes her hand into his holding it as they walk to the NICU before going in they gown themselves up and wash their hands; 5 minutes later the two walked back to the NICU doors, Nero presses the intercom "Can I help you?" a voice comes through the speaker "Here for Atalaya Padilla" the doors open, Nero walked in first holding the door for his wife she walks into the room beside him they walk a few more steps to their baby's incubator, Gemma gasps loudly at the sight of her baby, monitors were beeping keeping her alive, her tiny body is swollen and she's got bandages all down her chest from the surgery she whispers "Oh my god" her head starts to spin, her heart is racing and feels herself getting dizzy, she then grabs her chest as the pain in it gets intense; Nero turns around to see if she's okay and notices her hand on her chest "Mama!" he says worried rushing over to her, he takes her outside to sit down on the bench where she whispers to him "I can't breathe"
Chapter 17: Going Back, Then Forward – Part 1
November 16th – St. Thomas Hospital – Outside The NICU - 1pm
Nero bent down in front of his wife cupping her face in his hands noticing her skin is a bit clammy, pale and sweaty "Baby, look at me" he encourages she does holding onto him "you've gotta breathe okay" she nods as he asks "Are you having any chest pain?" shaking her head whispering "yes" he stands back up "I'm gonna go get the doctor, I'll be right back" Nero runs to find Dr. Shyer seconds later he returns with her she rushes to Gemma who is still sitting on the bench with her hand on her chest, gasping the doctor takes her stethoscope from around her neck placing the tips into her ears "Gemma, I'm going to listen to your breathing and heart rate okay" Dr. Shyer puts the chest piece on her patients chest listening to her breathing she notices Gemma's breathing heavily and that her heart rate is erratic. "Gemma, let's you back to your room I'm going to have to put you on some oxygen and check your heart out" Nero and Dr. Shyer help her up from the bench holding onto her as all three of them make their way to Gemma's room a few minutes later, entering the room they gently sit her down onto the bed, Allison places electrodes onto her chest then gets the oxygen mask off the wall putting it onto Gemma's face "take slow deep breaths" she instructed, adding "calm down, I think you're most likely having an anxiety attack from all the stress you're under and seeing your baby like that didn't help, but just to be sure I'm going to run an EKG on you to check out your heart" Gemma continues breathing through the mask, as Dr. Shyer puts the electrodes onto Gemma's chest, she pulls over the EKG machine scanning it looking for any irregularities in Gemma's heart rate; Nero's holding her hand "Mama, your gonna be alright, just take it easy" Dr. Shyer checks the heart tracing on the monitor she announces. "No irregularities, transient heartbeats or ST elevations that's good you're not having a heart attack" a little while later, the doctor checks Gemma's breathing and heart rate once again, seconds later she remarks happily "Well Gemma, you seem to be stable now, your breathing and heart rate are normal" Dr. Shyer removes the oxygen mask from her patients face placing it back onto the wall and the electrodes from her chest. Dr. Shyer asks "Are you feeling better?" she nods "Yeah, thanks" the doctor pats her shoulder, looking down at her pager she announcing "I've gotta go now, but if you need anything else, or anymore help let me know" they both nod as Dr. Shyer leaves the room.
After she left, Gemma and Nero look at each other, he suggests "Babe, you want to try again to visit our baby?" she nods "Yeah, I do come on" standing up she takes his hand onto hers and they walk back down to the NICU they gown up and wash their hands once again, taking deep breaths Nero gives a small nod "You ready, Mama?" giving her own nods they walk into the room together, he stops for a moment placing his arms around her seconds later they reach their baby's incubator, Gemma watches her tiny daughter's chest going up and down as she breathes, she bends down opening the incubator door putting her hand in rubbing her daughter's tiny arm whispering "Mommy's so proud of you, sweetheart for making it through, your and daddy and I love you so much" she looks at Nero who smiles at the tender words as Gemma takes her hand out as Nero put his hand into the isolate he rubs his baby's tiny foot she kicks, Nero chuckles while Gemma watches the loving moment.
Teller/Case Residence:2pm
Wendy and Jax sit silently on the living room couch, inside Wendy is still upset with Jax for what he did to Gemma not seeing his baby sister after her surgery she stands up looking at him "Jax" she starts, he looked up at her "what?" he asks as she continues "we need to talk about what happened at the hospital, what the hell is wrong with you?" Jax groans frustrated "Christ, Wendy why bring this up now?" she sighs "Because I'm upset with you how could you be like that with your mother, what happened to loving and caring about your sister?" Jax gets up from the couch and goes outside for a cigarette; the blonde runs after him shutting the door behind her "we aren't done talking about this, I went with you to the hospital and you said you'd be there for your mother and sister, but that wasn't true was it?" dropping his cigarette on the ground "we're done talking about this" as he tries to go back into the house Wendy grabs his arm "Damn it, Jax come on!" adding pleading "please talk to me!" Jax yells angrily "Alright!" sighing he apologizes "I'm sorry" she looks at him sympathetically "I know, but it's not me you need to apologize to it's your mother and baby sister" taking his hand she continues "Look Jax, it's hard seeing a baby like that I know you're scared because of Abel being born early as well I get it, but she's your sister not your child, you aren't going to be raising her, Gemma and Nero are there's no reason for you to act like a jerk because your mother and Nero are under enough stress right now they don't need that especially from you, you need make this right with them" Exhaling deeply rubbing his hands over his face he starts to cry softly she whispers "Jax, it's okay you need to tell her and apologize she'll understand" after a few minutes he looks up at her with his tear stained face he just nods pulling out his phone he dials his mother's number after a few rings she answers tiredly "Hello?" pausing a bit he continues "Hey Mom" hearing her son's voice on the other end Gemma almost hangs up the phone, but she figures she should hear him out "What do you want, Jax?" she asks coldly. Jax goes silent he knows he deserves that reaction "Mom, I'm sorry" he says apologizing. Gemma continues being silent, Jax takes a deep breath continuing "I want to explain why I was being an asshole at the hospital..the reason is I'm scared that she won't make it and with Abel being early and Tommy with his heart condition..." he trails off he starts breaking down again, listening to her son crying is heartbreaking to hear "Jax.." she says hoarsely, he sniffles listening to her "I love you so much and I forgive you" he smiles "Thanks, is it okay if I come by to the hospital later to see my sister?" it was Gemma's turn to smile "Sure when?" she asks walking around the hallway, Jax goes silent for a few seconds "About 3 or so" Gemma looks at her watch thinking: That's an 1 hour from now! shaking those thoughts out of her head she answers "That's fine, see you when you get here" Jax replies back "Okay, I love you, Mom" putting his hand in his pocket, Jax hangs up as did Gemma soon after.
After hanging up with Jax, Gemma returns to the NICU and into the back room to wash her hands again she stands beside her husband who is talking to their baby in Spanish "Hola nena, ¿cómo te va? este es tu papi otra vez" (Hey baby girl, how are you doing? This is your daddy again) Nero turns to his wife asking curiously "who was that on the phone, Mama?" Gemma answers simply "Jax" Nero crosses his arms to his chest "what did he want?" he asks slightly angrily she put her hands on his arm "he called to apologize to explain why he acted like he did earlier; he wants to come back to the hospital again to visit Atalayla" Nero looks at her "Gem..." he starts "Baby, please don't okay, he apologized and I think he's being sincere he was actually really upset, crying at how he treated me, I love him he's my son and I forgave him" Nero's eyebrows arch in surprise "Really?" questioning "that fast?" she nods "Yes, I want him in our baby's life it's his sister and fighting isn't going to help anyone and I know you love him even though you are angry with him right now" Nero smiles "Yeah I do, love him and you're right I'm mad at him" she smiles kissing him on his lips "just be civil okay and I'm sure he'll apologize to you when he gets here" Nero hugs her "I hope so"
3pm:
Jax, Wendy and Abel are in the hallway once again outside the NICU "Babe, you stay here with the baby I'm gonna go in" she nods "Okay, I'll be here" she squeezes his hand asking "Are you sure you can do this now?" looking into the NICU then back at his wife to be he nods "Yeah, I think so" he gowns up then goes to the doors again to the NICU pushing it open going in he goes to the back room to wash his hands, he walks towards his mother and Nero watching them silently from a distance with their baby he smiles at them; Gemma turns around to see Jax there she waves him over "it's okay" Jax makes his way over "Hey, Mom" looking to Nero he says "Hey man, look I know your probably upset with me for earlier, but I want to apologize this is hard on me to see you know with Abel being like this when he was born and my brother dying..I don't handle these things well, I hope you'll forgive I do want to be in my sister's life I want to try again" Nero quietly listens to the younger man explain his reasoning "I'm sorry" he says with tears in his eyes, Nero's eyes soften as does his tone "come here" he motions to Jax putting his arms around him they stay like that for a few moments as Gemma looks on smiling so happy that her two favorite men have made up. Before touching his sister he goes over to the back of the room to wash his hands as Nero goes to get him a gown, handing it to him "Here, Mano gotta have one of these on in here" the young man nods takes it putting it on.
Jax goes over his little sister's incubator opening the door he looks at his mother scared, she encourages "go ahead, it's okay" his hand shakes slightly as he gently touches her tiny hand "Hey little girl" he whispers caressing her face with his fingers she squirms at his touch he chuckles "you like that huh?" he observes. After a few minutes Jax takes his hand out closing the window, Gemma looks at him proudly "Jax, I'm so happy that you came back and are wanting to be in your sister's life" she gives him a kiss on his cheek he smiles saying "she's beautiful, I can't wait to hold her" Gemma nods in agreement "Me too" changing the subject she asks "how's my grand baby?" he answers happily "He's fine, mom, but Abel misses grandma" chuckling she stands up "Well grandma will come out to see him soon" Gemma touches Nero's arm "Nero can you-" he put his hand up stopping her knowing exactly what she's going to ask "I'll stay with her"
An hour later Jax and Wendy decide to leave because Jax has club business to tend too "Well Gem we're gonna go we've got things to do" Gemma crosses her arms in front of her eyeing the two suspiciously, but saying instead "Oh okay see you guys later" Wendy gives her a quick hug as Jax put his arms around her "Mom, I know that look we really have to go and things to do, we'll be back, I promise" Gemma sighs heavily saying nothing else shaking her head.
Later That Night– 6pm
After a long day in the NICU with their baby, Gemma and Nero head back to Gemma's hospital room holding hands both are exhausted, but Gemma's stomach rumbles, Nero chuckles "I think someone's hungry" he remarks, she chuckles "Yeah, me" they lay on the bed together as Nero clicks on the TV to find something to watch, a knock comes and the door opens revealing nurse Melissa "Hi, Gemma, I thought you might be hungry so here's your dinner" rubbing her stomach she smiles "I'm, thank you" smiling at the older woman replying "Sure, if you need anything let me know" she walks out the room shutting the door behind; as Gemma starts to eat her food, Nero watches her she notices this "you want some, baby?" she asks moving her tray over to him, he waves her off "Nah Mama, I'll get something in the cafeteria" saying nothing the biker queen continues eating, Nero gets up from the bed "I'm gonna go now to the cafeteria" taking a sip of her milk she replies "Okay, I love you" Nero walks back to her "I love you too, Gem" he kisses her the lips then leaves.
Nero shuts the door behind him, walking slowly down the hallway his mind is spinning with thoughts and he is physically and emotionally drained from the everything that's gone on. Walking to the elevators he waits patiently for the doors to open, seconds later they do and he steps on, pressing the button for the 3rd floor rubbing his hands over his face, he leaning his body against the wall closing his eyes "oh!" he groans minutes later the elevator doors open for the 3rd floor; Nero steps off heading to the cafeteria going in he looks around trying to decide what to eat even though he's not really hungry he knows he has to eat something so he picks a salad because it's easy, quickly grabs some dressing and some water to drink heading back to Gemma's room.
Minutes later Nero returns to his wife's room, opening the door he goes in, she smiles as he comes in "Hey, baby, you find something to eat?" he nods walking over to her sitting on the bed, opening up his salad he starts to eat it as Gemma walks him, he smiles offering her some "you want some?" she smiles taking out a tomato from the plastic bowl, Nero gently takes it putting it into her mouth feeding her "mm mm good" she exclaims smiling taking the fork from him, putting the lettuce on it and feeding him they continue feeding each other, after an hour both are finished with their dinners, they settle in for the night by laying down together in the bed to watch TV until both fall into a restless slumber.
Two Days Later: November 18th Morning - 8am
The bright morning sun blinds through the window Gemma and Nero are still asleep when a knock comes at the door, Gemma stirs slowly as the person comes in "Hi, Gemma, here's your breakfast" says nurse Melissa pausing then continues "Dr. Shyer will be in talk with you in a few minutes" rubbing her eyes from sleep she yawns remarking sarcastically "Yay, how wonderful" within a few moments, Dr. Shyer comes into the room "Hey doc" Gemma greets, the doctor put her hand on Gemma's shoulder as she sits down across from her patient "when can I get out of here?" she asks; Allison smiles "today, within the next few hours, but your baby will be here for a while" Gemma smiles sadly looking down, she's happy she's been released finally, but leaving her baby here is breaking her heart, but she knows it's because she needs to get better so she can leave too.
Nero awakes to hear Dr. Shyer and Gemma talking, he sits up "Hey Mama" she smiles "Hey pimp daddy" she greets announcing "I'm getting released today...finally" he kisses her "that's great!" adding "we can finally be in our bed together...you know what that means..." she chuckles "oh..yeah I know thank god" Dr. Shyer clears her throat getting the couple's attention they look at her apologizing "sorry doc" Gemma remarks smirking as the doctor continues putting Gemma on the knee "well, I'll be back in a few hours then" she walks out leaving the couple alone. Once the doctor leaves Gemma asks "Baby, can you hand my purse? I need to take my pill" Nero gets up from the bed handing her, her purse taking out the pill bottle she puts the pill into her mouth swallowing it with some water Nero had gotten her minute earlier, she groans as medicine goes down her throat.
A Few Hours Later: - 12pm
Dr. Shyer has finally brought Gemma her discharge papers which she has now signed, she and Nero are packing Gemma's bag up so they can return home, she's already called Jax and Wendy letting them know of her release while Nero called Kayla letting her know about Gemma's release, but before she and Nero leave the hospital they are going to visit their baby girl, she's been stable still since her surgery they are happy about about, but still scared and worried for her as her condition is still critical and can change at any time.
Taking a deep breath, Gemma puts her hands on her hips announcing "I think we've got everything packed" Nero nods "I think so, you ready?" Gemma smiles "Yeah, let's go" Nero grabs Gemma's bag for her while she grabs her purse putting it on her arm, they walk to the NICU together nervously, Nero hands Gemma gown and both put them on; silence comes to the two as wash their hands at the sink; the new parents make their way back to the doors leading into the NICU when Gemma suddenly grabs her husband's arm making him stop in his tracks "Nero, I don't think I can do this" she says in a panicked voice, he questions confused "Do what, Mama? See the baby?" looking at him dead in the eyes she says "No, leave my baby here" Nero comforts her saying "Gem, it's gonna be okay" he kisses her putting his arm around her. "she knows we love her" he tips her chin up to look at him "we aren't leaving her, we are coming back for her it'll just take time" she starts shaking and crying softly. "Hey, hey...shh,shh..." he soothed holding her tightly.
After five minutes, Gemma has now let go of her husband trying to compose herself, taking a few deep breaths "I think I'm okay now" she says reassuringly. Nero smiles answering happily "good, I'm glad" he holds out his hand, Gemma takes it onto hers "I'm ready" Gemma pushes the intercom button, the buzzer buzzes a voice comes over the intercom "Can I help you?" clearing her throat she continues "we're here for Atalaya Padilla" the door opens Nero grabs it holding it open for Gemma she goes in, turning around she stops to wait for her husband, he comes over to her taking her hand once again as they walk over to their baby's incubator "Hey baby girl it's your mommy, I love you so much" she puts her hand into the incubator lightly touching her baby's cheek with her finger whispering "mommy has to leave the hospital now, but daddy and I will be back soon okay" taking her hand out. Nero then puts his hand in the isolate whispering "papi volveremos, cariño ... te quiero mucho" (daddy will be back, baby.. I love you so much") he takes his hand out closing the small window; both get one more look at their baby they slowly walk away confident they are leaving her in good hands.
Once they are outside the NICU, they take off their gowns throwing them away, Nero goes to the bench grabbing Gemma's bag while she takes her purse putting it on her arm as they head out of the hospital finally relieved to finally be going home.
Padilla Residence: - 1pm
Gemma and Nero pull into the driveway of their house, Nero shuts off the ignition "I'll get the bag" said Nero, Gemma nods "Okay" he hands her the keys as she gets out of the car shutting the door behind her; walking up to the back door she opens it throwing the keys and her purse on the table. She heads to her bedroom looking around she sighs heavily rubbing her hands over her face tiredly just then she hears the door slam shut walking back into the kitchen she notices her husband somewhat struggling with her bag "Need a hand, sweetheart?" she says offering to carry the bag; he waves her off "no, baby it's okay I got it" putting her hands up she walks back into their room, being so worn out from last few days of labor and hospitalization she needs a nap, yawning loudly she crawls into bed she's asleep within seconds; within a few moments Nero brings in her bag setting it against the wall, he turns around taking notice of Gemma's sleeping form watching her is making him tired as well; he crawls into the bed on his side moving over close to his wife, he holds onto her protectively around her waist as tiredness over comes him and he falls sound asleep.
A few hours later ringing of the phone stirs both Gemma and Nero from their sleep turning over, Gemma shakes her husband's shoulder mumbling sleepily "Baby..the phone's ringing" Nero sits up grabbing the phone "Hello?" he said sleepily. A voice replies back "Hey Kayla here, I'm sorry did I wake you?" Nero responds "Yeah, but it's okay, what's wrong?" Kayla gets up from the couch "Nothing's wrong I was just wondering if I can bring Lucius back to the house because I have something to do today" the older man yawns "Sorry, uh yeah sure you can bring him back" Kayla walks into her kitchen opening the fridge to get something to drink "Thanks, we'll be over soon" Nero silently gets up from the bed careful not wake Gemma who has fallen back to sleep "Okay, we'll see you in a few" they both hung up, Nero puts the phone back on it's cradle.
1:10pm:
Nero goes into the kitchen to get something to drink opening the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water opening it he unscrews the cap taking a few drinks from it. Walking around the house he ends up in the nursery he chuckles sitting down in the rocking chair thinking just imagining himself with his baby girl bonding together during feeding time or playing with her, he smiles suddenly a knock at the back door shakes him out of his thoughts getting up from the chair he goes to answer the door. "Hey Kayla, Hey Mijo!" says Nero smiles happily bending down to his son's level "Hi, Papi!" he said wrapping his arms around his father. Kayla smiles too she knows they missed each other "Well, I've gotta go now, bye Lucius, see ya later" Lucius waves bye "See ya, Kayla" Nero opens the door for her letting her out "Thanks so much for all of your help" she replies "no problem" Nero shuts the door then turns around to carry Lucius into his room "Come on, Mijo let's go to your room you have to be quiet because Gemma is sleeping" Nero puts Lucius down on the bed "So now that you're back home wanna do something?" Lucius nods "Color some pictures" Nero smiles "Okay that's something quiet" Nero opens the drawer getting out the crayons and coloring books closing it up again, he sits on the floor helping his son down so he can sit beside him as they both start coloring together happy to be home again.
An hour later, Gemma awakens opening her eyes slowly, she sits up in the bed trying to wake up "Nero!" she calls out, hearing his wife call he rushes into their bedroom. "Gem, are you okay?" he asks concerned "Yeah, I'm okay" he shakes his head smirking "you scared me to death, Mama don't do that!" she laughs apologizing "I'm sorry, babe" to make it up to him she kisses him on the lips "I love you" he kisses her back saying "I love you, too" moving closer to his wife he caressing her face with his fingers gently, trailing kisses down her neck biting it softly she moans wrapping her arms around him, what he is doing it's already turning her on, he stops looking at her breathing heavily "Why'd you stop?" he said simply "Lucius" she groans in disappointment "Sorry, Mama, but don't worry tonight we're gonna do this welcome home thing right" smiling flirtatiously "ooh, I can't wait" he growls "me either"
Changing the subject she asks "So Lucius is home now?" he confirms "yep he is, we were coloring together in his room" Gemma gets up from the bed walking into Lucius's bedroom "Hey, sweetheart" Lucius smiles "Hi, Gemma!" she sits down on the floor with him to color when he asks "how is my baby sister?" she answers truthfully "she's still very sick, baby" the boy pouts sadly at his stepmother, but asks "when can I see her, I want too" Gemma puts the crayon down wrapping her arms around him "I know you do, sweetheart and I promise you will soon, but she has to get better first before you can and that will probably take a while" as soon as she says that she looks up to see Nero in the doorway looking at the two of them "Is anyone hungry for lunch?" Gemma smiles "Yeah I'm" Lucius shakes his head "I'm too" Nero continues "What do you two want?" standing up from the floor, Gemma walks to her husband "a salad" he chuckles "okay" looking over at his son he asks "what about you, Mijo?" the young boy thinks for a few minutes before answering back "sandwich, peanut butter and jelly" with that Gemma and Nero go into the kitchen the two begin making lunch with Gemma making Lucius's and Nero making Gemma's. Gemma grabs a knife from the drawer and the peanut butter spreading it onto the bread then grabs the jelly from the fridge spreading it onto the another piece of bread, she opens the fridge grabbing the milk she reaches for a cup from the cabinet pouring the milk into the cup then grabs a plate putting the sandwich on it placing everything on the table. Gemma goes to Lucius's room to get him "Lunch is ready, sweetheart, come on" she picks him up carrying him into the kitchen sitting him in the chair "Here you go" he smiles thanking her "Thanks, Gemma" he starts eating just as Nero finishes with Gemma's lunch "here you go, Mama" she thanks him "Thanks babe" Nero sits down at the table across from his wife and son smiling he can't wait for Talaya to come home to make their family complete.
As Gemma and Lucius eat, Gemma looks over at her husband who has gone quiet all of the sudden "Baby, you okay?" he nods. "You sure?" she asked concerned. He nods again. Pausing she asks "Aren't you hungry?" he shrugs his shoulders "Not really" A silence falls on everyone for a few moments when Gemma breaks the silence again with a suggestion "Hey Lucius, would you like to go to the park?" he nods happily "Yeah!" Gemma puts some of her salad into her mouth as she speaks "well, after we eat we can go okay" 10 minutes later everyone is done eating, Standing up Gemma announces "let's go to the park" Nero stands up from his chair helping his son down from the chair with Gemma on the other side helping all three walk to car together with both Gemma and Nero helping Lucius on each other holding his hands as they get Lucius buckled in the car, Nero quickly goes back into the house to grab Lucius's wheelchair just in case they need it at the park.

The three arrive at the park 5 five minutes later, Gemma and Nero help Lucius out of the car they walk around until Lucius spots the swings "I want to go on them" he says pointing "Okay" Gemma said looking at Nero who just nodded, the two help him onto the swing Lucius holds on tightly to the chains while Nero lightly pushes him as he giggles "faster, papi!" he says, Nero replies "No Mijo, I don't want you falling" Gemma looks at him stating "Babe, I'll watch him so he doesn't fall so you can at least push him a bit faster" Nero's unsure about his wife's statement, but he relents saying "Okay, I'll try it" both smile at his reluctance, Gemma bends down holding Lucius's body steady with her hands as Nero pushes him faster as he laughs loudly the three continue on the swings for a while until Lucius mentions he's tired so they stopped the swing helping him down "Sweetheart, do you want to go home?" he shakes his head "No, I want to go on the slide" she nods "Okay, come on let's go" both Gemma and Nero take his hands into theirs helping him walk over to the slide, Gemma offers to take him on it, she sits down in the slide takes Lucius into her arms tightly as they slide down laughing happily together.
4pm:
The family arrives home from the park, Nero takes in Lucius's wheelchair then carries Lucius himself to his room where Nero gives him a book to read. Meanwhile Gemma drops her keys on the table when Nero wraps his arms around her waist kissing her neck "Hey" he whispers swaying her back and forth slowly, her eyes close she leans into his body wanting to savor this moment forever.
Nero lets his wife go looking at her asking "You want go to the hospital to visit Talaya tonight?" she smiles inside she can't wait to see her baby again "Of course" she said walking into the kitchen to get herself a bottle of water opening it she took a sip. Nero pulls out his phone "I'm gonna call Kayla to ask if she can stay with Lucius while we go" Gemma puts her hand on his arm stopping him "Baby, you don't have to call now, since we aren't going right away" he sighs closing his phone "You're right, Mama?" adding "What do you want to do now?" Gemma exhales deeply putting her hands on her hips "I don't know" he goes into the kitchen grabbing himself a bottle of water, he opens it and takes a huge drink of it getting it down to about half left, to which Gemma looks at him in amusement "Thirsty?" they both laugh hysterically "yeah I guess so" clearing her throat she changes the subject "So when do you want to go to the hospital?" Nero glances at his watch "Well, before visiting hours are over at 10, so about dinner time?" she nods "Okay, in the meanwhile I think I'm going to go into work for a bit" Nero glares at her surprised "You sure you want to do that, babe?" she smiles answering "Yes it'll give me something else to do...you know me I gotta keep busy" he shakes his head "Yeah I know, well I'll stay here with Lucius" without another word Gemma grabs her purse, phone which she throws in her purse and keys and heads to work kissing Nero goodbye "I love you" he kisses back slipping his tongue into her mouth gently pushing her against the wall, she moans softly as their passion gets the best of them as a few dishes shattered into pieces on the floor making them turn around gasping, they look back at each other; Gemma looks down in embarrassment "oops guess we got carried away" patting his chest as he touches her face gently with his finger "I should go before this..." she motions to them "goes any further" Nero stops her "I love you too, Gem" he opens the door letting her out shutting it closed.
After she leaves, Nero picks up the shattered pieces of plates that fell onto the floor placing them onto the table for Gemma because he doesn't know what she wants to do with them, then decides to go shopping at the store, taking his son with him, he wants to get his wife some flowers to welcome her back to work. He pays for the flowers and leaves the store putting Lucius in the seat of his car, wanting to surprise Gemma with the roses he drives to TM. quietly walking into the office placing the vase of flowers on the desk along with the card which read: Welcome back Mama, I love you so much, Love Nero he exits without a word to head back home.
4:15pm:
Gemma arrives at T.M. 10 minutes later to an empty office looking around she spots the vase of beautiful red roses on her desk she smiles to herself walking over to them, opening the card, she puts on her reading glasses to read what it says "Welcome back, Mama, I love you so much, Love Nero" chuckling like a girl with a first crush she pulls out her phone calling her husband, he picks up on the first ring "Hey baby" she plops onto the couch "Hey sweetheart, I got your flowers, I love them, thank you so much!" Nero sits down on their bed taking off his shoes throwing them against the wall "you're welcome, Mama" Gemma gets up from the couch getting herself some water from the jug taking a sip "I miss you" he replies back "I miss you, babe" after a few moments of silence Gemma breaks it "I've gotta go baby, I'll be home soon I love you" Nero walks around the house "Okay, I love you too, Mama" they hang up.
The biker queen looks back at her desk, sighing exasperated it's a mess with papers scattered all around it, shaking her head "shit!" she curses silently to herself slamming her purse down on the desk "Hey, what's going on in my office!" she yells hearing Gemma's voice Tig, Chibs and Bobby all come running in to welcome her back "Hey Gem" said Bobby giving her a hug" Tig gives her a hug kissing her on the cheek "Gem, welcome back" and Chibs "Aye, Gem glad to have you back" he kisses and hugs her tightly "Hey my boys thanks, where's Chucky?" Tig speaks up "I think he's in the clubhouse getting something to eat" says Bobby as he leaves to go fix a customers brakes in the garage; Tig looks at Gemma "So how is the baby?" he asks "she's fine at the moment, her surgery went well, but she'll be in the NICU for a while, Nero and I are going back up to the hospital soon to see her so I'm only going to be here for an hour or two" Tig nods in understanding "I'm so happy the baby is okay and that her surgery went well" she kisses him on his cheek "Thanks sweetheart" he leaves to go with Jax on club business while Gemma looks for Chucky she finds him right where Tig said he'd be: in the kitchen watching him from the hallway she goes to putting her hands on his shoulders "Oh! Gemma, didn't know you were back" he says startled. "Sorry, baby" she said apologizing putting her hands on her hips "What happened to my desk, papers are all over the place" he looks at her blankly unsure of what to say "Well?" she snaps impatiently, Chucky shrugs his shoulders "I guess I got distracted, Gem I'm sorry" she smirks eyeing him, barking "Get back there and give me some help to straighten it up!" the young man winces at the older woman's statement "Okay, Gem" he said briskly walking past her going to the office with Gemma following soon after "let's sort out the papers first" she said pointing to the stack of papers to on the left, he nods handing her the papers she looks through them sorting them out, then he hands her the other papers again she sorts them, after a few minutes the desk is clean making Gemma happy again "Thank you, sweetheart, I appreciate the help" kissing him on the cheek, nodding he leaves.
4:30pm:
Now that her desk is clean, Gemma can catch up on her paperwork before leaving for the hospital just then the phone rings "T.M. automotive, Gemma Teller" she listens to the person on the other end "Yeah, Ms. Thompson" Gemma quickly grabs a pen and paper scribbling down the information before hanging up. Gemma stands up from the desk going into the garage where a few of the boys are still working "Hey guys" she said getting their attention, they look up "Mrs. Thompson just called about her car" Bobby nods "Okay tell her she can come and pick it up, the brakes on it are done" Gemma replies back "Okay great, thanks" Gemma calls back the woman letting her know about her car "alright, see you then" she gets up again going back into garage announcing "Mrs. Thompson said she'll be here to pick up her car in 10 minutes" Tig nods "Thanks, Gem" she smiles walking back into the office sitting back down exhaling deeply frustrated.
5pm:
Mrs. Thompson has picked up her car, Gemma is trying to get her paperwork done; her stomach starts to rumble "ooh time for dinner" she murmurs to herself putting her hand to her stomach, she doesn't feel like getting up again so she yells for the boys "Hey!" hearing Gemma's voice Tig comes rushing in "Gem, are you okay?" he asked concerned "I'm fine, baby, I'm hungry do you mind getting me something to eat for dinner?" he shakes his head "No, I don't mind what do you want?" thinking for a few minutes she finally answers "a burger and fries" giving him some money she snaps "now go and get me my food" he leaves to get her dinner without a word.
Tig returns to the office 10 minutes later with Gemma's food, he gives her the change which she puts in her purse then hands her the food "Thanks, baby" she said sitting down in plopping down in her chair starting to eat, Tig looks at her "You can go now, Tiggy I'm fine" she waves him off "get out" he gets the point and leaves shutting the door behind him. Another a few minutes passes, Gemma finishes eating throwing everything left in the garbage, looking at her watch she realizes the time "Shit, it's 5:30!" whispering to herself quickly telling the guys she's leaving for the rest of the day she quickly packs up everything including the vase of roses and heads home to so she and Nero can get to the hospital.
6pm:
Gemma arrives home quickly getting out of the car with her flowers she opens the door with her key rushing into the house she nearly collides with her husband "Whoa! Mama, where's the fire?" he jokes, she laughs softly as he holds out his hands to steady her "Well, hello to you, too pimp daddy" smiling he asks "Hey, are you ready to go to the hospital?" she replies happily "Of course why do you think I rushed home?" Nero questions jokingly "To see your husband?" she gives him a hug "That too" After Gemma lets him go he takes the vase of roses from her putting them on the table. She notices the broken dishes on the table and inquires "What's this?" motioning to the broken dishes on the kitchen table Nero turns around responding "the dishes that fell earlier, I was going to throw them away, but I realized they are yours so I left them there for you to decide what you want to do with them" he explains "Oh?" he nods, taking a breath she puts her hands on her hips remarking "Thanks, we could always glue them back together...later" he shrugs his shoulders "Whatever you wanna do, Mama is fine with me" She smiles "We'll deal with this later, right now we have to go to the hospital" he just nods saying nothing.
Gemma turns around swiftly asking "Did you call Kayla to come over?" he nods "Yeah, but babe I was thinking maybe we should let him see his new sister, he's been asking so much" Gemma comes over to him cupping his face with her hands "Sweetheart, she's still very sick do you want him to see her like that, he's just a kid, it's hard enough for us seeing her like that" he sighs heavily sitting down on the chair a long silence comes over him; she bends down putting her hand on his shoulder rubbing it "Baby, talk to me" she encourages, he just looks at her saying nothing unsure of what to say at this point, but he knows she's got a point bowing his head he puts his hands face he starts crying softly, Gemma notices and tries to comfort him "Shh, baby it's okay" she soothes "shh..shh" after a few minutes he sniffling, but has stopped crying, looking at his tear stained face she wipes his tears "I love you" she kisses him on the lips as he reciprocates the kiss passionately seconds later they stop breathing heavily he whispers "I love you too, Mama" caressing her face "You have a point, sorry I pushed it, we'll wait" just then a knock comes at the door "I'll get it, it's Kayla" he announces "okay" she says grabbing her purse, phone and keys again. Nero opens the door letting Kayla in "Hey guys" the young woman greets them "Hey" they both said in unison, Nero states "He hasn't had dinner yet so you'll have to make him something" Kayla nods "Okay, thanks for letting me know" adding "what time are you guys gonna be back?" The two look at each other and their watches "before 10 because that's when visiting hours are over" She nods waving bye before walking out Nero remarks "Tell Lucius we love him and to be good" Kayla nods again "Sure, no problem, see you guys later" They leave, Kayla shuts the door behind them.
St. Thomas Hospital- 6:15pm
They arrive at the hospital a few minutes later, Gemma turns off the engine sighing heavily, she licks her lips looking at her husband asking "Are you ready?" he nods "Yeah, let's go" taking the keys out she gives them to him, he puts them into the pocket then both get out shut the doors behind them. They walk around the back of the car taking each others hands and head into the hospital.
Walking over to the elevators, Nero presses the button and they wait patiently for them to open seconds later a ping sound comes from the elevator as the doors whoosh open, the couple steps in, Gemma presses the button for the 4th floor silence comes over them as they wait for the elevator to go onto the 4th floor, second later it does and the doors open again, they step out to head to the NICU. Once there both got gowned up and wash their hands silently, walking back to the NICU doors, Gemma presses the button for the intercom a voice comes over the speaker "Can I help you? Clearing her throat she replies back "Here to see baby Padilla" the buzzer chimes and the doors open, they walk into the room inside both are nervous and scared.
They keep going through the room trying to find their daughter's isolate finally they spot it and Amy their daughter's primary nurse "Hi you two" she whispers greeting them, they both smile "How is she doing today?" Gemma asks looking at her tiny daughter through the incubator. "Well, she's still stable which is good, but still touch and go, she's gained a few ounces now she's up to 2lbs, 10 oz's and her the two smile hearing she's doing well. Amy walks over quickly grabbing a rocking chair for Gemma to sit in she rocks slowly gazing at her daughter, looking up at Amy "When can I hold her?" Amy replies truthfully "I'm not sure, but you can ask the doctor" Gemma looks down sadly hearing that news "Thanks"she whispers as suddenly Atalaya's cardiologist, Dr. Becker arrives "Hi, Gemma, Nero how are you guys doing tonight?" they both shake the doctor hand, that's when Gemma immediately asks "Doc, when can I hold my daughter?" The doctor answers truthfully "Well, you should be able to hold her once we remove the stitches from her chest which will probably be in a week or two" hearing that Gemma clasps her hands together happily exclaiming "Oh I can't wait!" the doctor smiles "I bet" Carla removes the tape from the baby's tiny chest checking on the baby's scar and stitches remarking stoically "Everything looks fine with her stitches and the scar" Gemma breathes a sigh of relief with that news because that's means she and Nero will finally get to hold their child for the first time.
Gemma opens the window in her baby's isolate reaching into it caressing her cheek whispering "Hey, sweetie your daddy and I are back here with you, we need to stay with us and be strong okay we love you so much" Nero walks over to his daughter's isolate "Hey baby girl, we can't wait to hold you" the baby squirms hearing her parents voices, Nero notices remarking "I think she can hear us" she nods "Yeah it seems so" they stay for a few more minutes then decide to leave for the night "Baby, we'll be back, we love you" Gemma says pressing a kiss to the incubator while Nero speaks Spanish to her " Te amo cariño" (I love you, baby) Sighing sadly they look at their baby one last time before stepping outside taking off their gowns throwing them into the bin.
7pm:
It's now getting dark as they head out to the car, Nero decides to drive back to the house this time giving his wife some time as he notices she's upset, he gets into the car, puts on his seatbelt then takes the keys out of his pocket putting them into the engine, car starts as Gemma gets in, she silently puts on her seatbelt as Nero pulls out and they head back home.
The couple arrives home an hour later at 8; Nero drove the long way back to their house because he just wanted to have the peace and quite for a bit which he thinks Gemma was enjoying, pulling into the driveway he turns off the engine looking over at his wife she looks so sad and inside he is as well "Thank you" she whispers, he looks at her confused "For what, Mama?" Gemma whispers again "For the peace and quiet drive I needed that you know just to clear my head and think" he squeezes her hand "I know, Mama and you're welcome" adding "You know me way too well" he remarks truthfully "Well I should, it's my job too" Gemma gets out of the car as does Nero they walk into the back door shutting it behind them when Kayla appears "Hey guys, Lucius is in his room coloring and I fed him dinner earlier so he should be fine" Kayla says as she grabs her coat off the rack then grabs her purse "Okay thanks, sweetheart" Nero gives Kayla her payment and she leaves for the night.
Nero goes to check on Lucius while Gemma walks into their bedroom taking off her shoes and putting her purse on the dresser, she decides to change into something more comfortable and easy for Nero to take off of her after a few minutes she puts on a t-shirt and some jeans without underwear inside she thinks: He will love that referring to her no underwear. She's already turned on, but she knows they have to wait until Lucius is asleep to do anything so she gets into her side of the bed reading a book while she waits for Nero to get back into their room.

Gemma and Nero are at the hospital visiting their daughter they are sitting in rocking chairs, Kayla had stayed over the the night before to be on hand to watch Lucius for them. Talyala's stitches in her chest are now out, Gemma's anxious to hold her daughter as is Nero who is sitting beside his wife. Amy has come over to them "Are you guys ready to hold your daughter?" both nod as Amy opens the incubator reaching in for the tiny baby bringing her out and over to Gemma; Amy gently puts the little girl into her mother's arms Gemma's hands shake a bit as she starts to cry softly when the baby is handed to her; Amy notices this and bends down in front of the older woman putting her hands on Gemma's knees reminding her "Don't let her know you're scared okay because she'll know that if you are" she nods "Okay...okay" wiping her tears trying to compose herself. Amy says simple "Just rock" and she does whispering "Hi baby, I love you" kissing her forehead, that's when the baby opens her eyes for the first time, Gemma gasps whispering "Baby, she's opened her eyes" adding "They are brown" she looks over at her husband who is smiling at the scene, he remarks "I figured they might be" she chuckles softly at the comment, adding "Would you like to hold your daughter?" She asks he nods as Amy comes over taking the baby from Gemma's arms putting her into Nero's he gazes at her with tears in his eyes, bending down he gives her a kiss on her cheek as he whispers "Hey sweetie, it's your daddy, we can't wait until you're home with us" the tiny baby responds by looking up at him as he gently rocks her, leaning into her father she closes her eyes again falling asleep in his arms as Gemma looks on happily she can't wait for their new family to really begin.
