Chapter: 20: Back To Where We Were (Before)
A Few Days Later: December 20th Padilla Residence – Morning 10am
Nero is the first one awake this morning, he gets up slowly from the bed careful not to wake his wife. He walks into his son's room, he sees he's still asleep so he goes into the kitchen to make himself and Gemma some coffee, taking the coffee pot pouring the water in it, puts it into the machine turning it on while waiting for his coffee he feels a pair of hands around his waist "Good morning, pimp daddy" she whispers, he turned around to see his wife in the kitchen "Hey, Mama" pointing to the pot."Making coffee?" she questions, he nods. They kiss each other "Lucius awake?" she asked curiously, he answers "No, not yet" leaning against the counter she sighs sadly, Nero notices and comes over to her taking her in his arms "Babe, what's wrong?" he asks as she leans into him, she felt his hands around her, her voice is above a whisper "I want our baby home with us" she admits. Nero questions "What?" Gemma repeats what she had said. "I want our baby home with us, every time I leave her there I don't want to" she starts to cry "I miss her so much!" she says through the crying. Nero comforts her. "Hey, hey..shh, shh, she'll be home with us soon, baby" Gemma continued to cry harder, his arms hold her closer. "It's okay" finally she stops whispering "I'm a mess" Nero tips her chin with his finger to look at him, wiping her tears, she sniffles apologizing "I'm sorry" he hugs her "It's okay, I know it's hard on you leavin' her there, it's hard on me too" He continued to hold her close as she closes her eyes in contentment not wanting to let him go.
Nero whispers into her ear "Hey, at least she's gotten a lot better and we got to feed her" she smiles knowing he has a point "Yeah, that's true, thanks baby you made me feel better" his lips lightly touch hers "You're welcome" The smell of coffee pulls them apart, Nero tells her to sit down at the table while he gets their coffee she does patiently waiting for her coffee five minutes later the coffee is done, Nero reaches for two cups for them, placing them on the counter, he pours the coffee into each cup making his wife's how she likes it – black with lots of sugar and his how he likes it, turning around he faces her giving her the cup of coffee, he sits down next to his wife they make small talk and drink their coffee. That's when Kayla comes into the kitchen yawning she had stayed over night. "Hey sweetheart" Gemma greets her. The younger woman answers groggily "Hey..Hey Nero" he replies "Hey, Kayla" She reaches for a cup from the cupboard pouring herself some coffee then sits down at the table from Gemma and Nero.
10:30am:
Gemma pours herself a second cup of coffee while Nero goes to wake up Lucius, she decides to continue filling out Lucius's adoption papers, grabbing the file with the papers in it, sitting down at the dining room table with her coffee and a pen continuing where she left off. Back in Lucius's bedroom, Nero sits on his son's bed.
"Good morning, dad" the boy said, rubbing his eyes of sleep.
"Hey, Mijo, you ready to get up?" Nero asked back.
Lucius nodded yes. Nero helped him up from the bed, then gets his crutches for him to walk with.
Nero gets up from the bed walking beside his son just in case he needs help, the boy gets into the kitchen fine, his father sits him into the empty chair.
"Do you want some breakfast?" he asks, sitting down across from his son.
"Yes, I'm hungry" the boy answers groggily.
"What would you like to eat?" he asks his son standing up.
Lucius thought for a few moments before saying. "eggs and toast"
Gemma put down her pen getting up from the chair and goes into the kitchen inquiring. "Did someone say they wanted eggs and toast for breakfast?"
Lucius smiles speaking up excitedly. "I did!" Gemma grinned walking over to him stroking his hair kissing him on his cheek.
Nero turns around to see Gemma bending down to get the pan from the cabinet, he questions "Baby, what are you doing?" putting the pan onto the stove, she answers. "I thought I'd help you out, I'll make the eggs while you make the toast" he smiles "Thanks" she nods.
Gemma turns to Lucius asking. "Would you like to help me make the eggs?" he shakes his head. "Yeah" grabbing the step stool, she places it against the stove, taking the few steps towards Lucius she helps him up from the table takes his hands into hers then turns around to ask Nero. "Babe, can you hand me a bowl, two eggs and the milk?" without a word, Nero grabs everything putting them onto the table in front of his son and wife "Here you go" she smiles. "Thanks" he continues making Lucius's toast while Gemma and Lucius start the eggs. "Okay, sweetheart, you crack the eggs very gently on the side of the like this" she instructs cracking the egg then pouring it into the empty bowl. Gemma hands the boy the other egg he cracks it on pouring it into the bowl with the other egg. "Good job!" she praises. "Now for the milk" she begins looking over to Lucius she asks. "Would you like to help me pour the milk?" he shakes his head yes. She lifts the carton of milk up while Lucius places his hands under hers after a few seconds they stop. "Okay that's enough, now we have to scramble them up" she instructs, grabbing the fork she hands it to Lucius "Go for it!" he does after a few moments the eggs are scrambled up "Okay now it's over to the stove" she helps Lucius over there, he steps onto the stool as Gemma stands in back of him so he doesn't fall while at the same time holding onto him. She turns on the stove as Lucius pours in the eggs in the pan "Good!" Gemma quickly grabs the spatula moving around the eggs. Nero has his son's toast done and on a plate, seconds later the eggs are done. "Baby, hand me the plate" she asks, he hands the plate to her putting the eggs on it. Nero places the plate and some juice down in front of the empty chair while Gemma carries him back to his chair sitting him in it. Nero lastly grabs a clean fork from the silverware drawn handing it to his son. "Here you go, Mijo" the boy smiles at his father. "Thanks, Papi"
Padilla Residence: 11:30am
Breakfast is now over, Kayla helps Lucius back to his room while Gemma and Nero cleaned up the kitchen placing all the dishes in the dishwasher. Nero turns around facing his wife asking curiously. "Hey Mama, you going into work today?" she looked at him admitting. "I don't know" Gemma reaches for the sponge and wipes down the counters then the kitchen table while Nero takes the garbage out, coming back in he wraps his arms around his wife kissing her on her cheek her eyes close at the feeling of his touch.
They stay like that for awhile until Kayla comes in getting herself bottled water. "Hey you two, I was thinking of taking Lucius out for the day" Gemma turns in her husband's arms looking at him for answer. Nero looks to Kayla and Gemma "Okay, have fun, be careful and tell him to behave" Gemma adds "It's fine, what Nero said" she replied still holding Nero close. Kayla smiles turning to go back into Lucius's room to get him ready for their trip.
Meanwhile in the kitchen, Gemma lets go of Nero, walking back into the dining room she sits down again in the empty chair, Nero sits beside her, he noticed the papers on the table looking through them he looks to his wife asking curiously. "What are these?" Gemma responds. "Lucius's adoption papers, Lowen gave them to me a few weeks ago, I haven't gotten too far with them yet" he smiles. "That's great Mama, I'm so happy you've started this" she squeezes his hand. "Me too" they kiss passionately.
12pm:
A half hour later, Kayla and Lucius come out of the room, dressed and ready to go. "Well we're ready, see you guys later" Gemma and Nero pull away getting up from the table they both bend down to his level "You have fun okay, sweetheart, we love you" Gemma kisses him on his cheek. Nero steps next to his wife "Behave and have a great time, Mijo" he hugs and kissed him. Before leaving Nero looked at the younger woman and asks. "Where are you guys going?" Kayla smiles then replied. "I don't know yet, but I'll call you later" they both chuckle as Nero walks them out the door.
Seconds later, the door opens again, Nero comes back in shutting the door behind him. He notices Gemma is sitting at the table with the papers continuing to fill them out. "Hey Mama, looks like a lot of papers there" he remarks walking over to the table to sit down beside her. She nods while still having her eyes on the papers. "We're finally alone again after weeks apart" he mentions, taking her eyes off the papers, she smirks. "I know" adding. "I know where you're going with this...you want to finish what we started?" His eyebrows arch, asking. "Do you?" he challenged. "Writing Kayla and Lucius a note just in case they are back before we are" he nods. "Oh, good idea" she smiles standing up, taking his hand while he puts his sunglasses on with the other. "Ready?" she asked, smiling at her they walk outside, Nero lets go of her a second locking the door behind them. Gemma comments fanning herself, commenting. "Jesus Christ, it's hot out here!" adding somewhat impatiently. "Come on, Houdini, let's go already" he puts his hands up stopping her. "Alright Mama, hold on, what's the rush anyway?" She shrugged her shoulders apologizing. "I'm sorry" finally it locks, he looked behind him, she's standing there waiting patiently for him, he takes her hand into his once again and they walk to Gemma's SUV getting in, putting on their seatbelts, Nero turns on the air conditioner then pulls out heading for the hospital.
St. Thomas Hospital: 1:15pm
The couple arrived at the hospital a little while later, they get out and walk in together, once inside they take off their sunglasses, Gemma places them into her purse then walk over to the elevators, Nero pressed the button waiting for the doors to open, seconds later they do and the two step in, Nero presses the button to the 3rd floor as the doors close. In elevator, Gemma breaks the nervous tension between them. "Baby, did you remember to put the mobile on the crib?" Nero looks at her confused. "What-where did that come from?" Gemma shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know it just came into my head" Nero smiles. "Well, to answer your question, no I didn't, but I will when we get home" Gemma replies back. "Thank you" pausing a short time she adds. "Oh yeah, I forgot there's still a few things we didn't get like the car seat, some diapers, wipes, more clothes, socks, crib liners, stroller... we're gonna need them before she comes home" he nods. "Yeah, I know we'll get them don't worry we've still got time that's the main reason why I haven't put up the mobile yet" shaking her head she admits. "You'd think you would get everything you need for a baby at your own baby shower, but sometimes you don't" Nero throws up his hands at the comment, but replies back hoping to make his wife feel better. "We will, Mama relax" he kisses her just as the elevator doors open to the 3rd floor, stepping off they head to the NICU.
NICU: 1:25pm
Gemma and Nero hand each other gowns and put them on, Gemma presses the button for the intercom, a voice comes through. "Can I help you?" they look at each other when Nero speaks up "We're here for Atalaya Padilla" the doors open, Nero walk in first holding the door for Gemma, they go into the back to wash their hands once done the two walk around looking for their baby, peering at each isolate, they spot her and walk to the isolate where Amy is with her, she smiles when she sees them coming over "Hey you two" they smile "We are good, how is she doing today?" the young nurse replies happily "Well, she's gained two more pounds, so she's up to 5 pounds 2oz, although the doctors will want her over 5 before being discharged" the couple looked at her a bit sad, yet happy at the same time with that news; moments later Amy turns to Gemma asking "Do you want to try breastfeeding her?" she looked up at the younger woman nervously, to which Amy smiles reassuring her. "Don't worry, it'll be okay, she can take the bottle now so she'll be able to take to the breast as well" the nurse pulls over two rocking chairs for the couple to sit down in, they do as Amy gently handed Gemma her baby, the baby squirms a bit in her mother's arms, Nero smiles at his baby girl, he grabs her tiny hand to which the baby grips it tightly as he kissed it.
Moments later, Gemma lifts her shirt exposing her bra, unclasping it, as her breast hangs out, she brings Talaya's mouth up to her breast. "Come on, sweetie, you can do it" Gemma whispers caressing her cheek encouraging her as the tiny infant puts her mouth onto her mother's nipple after a few intense minutes, the little girl starts sucking, grimacing a bit as the baby makes contact, listening for the swallowing which she hears, as Amy gets a burp cloth placing over Gemma's shoulder while slowly rocking her little girl, Nero watches silently from the other chair at the tender moment.
After a few minutes, Talaya starts to get fussy, Gemma picks up the baby placing her over her shoulder, gently patting her back to burp her. "Come on, baby" Nero holds out his hands. "Let me try" he suggests without a word, Gemma carefully hands the baby over to him, placing the burp cloth onto his shoulder, standing up from the rocking chair, he walks around whispering into his baby's ear "Vamos, niña, hazlo por papi" (Come on, baby girl, do it for daddy) kissing her on the cheek while gently patting her back, she coos grasping her tiny hand on her daddy's cross necklace as Gemma looks on from her rocking chair.
St. Thomas Hospital: NICU – 1:45pm
Nero finally got Talaya to burp and is still holding her, he's rocking her in the chair while Gemma takes her tiny hand in hers. The baby has been spending more time awake which her parents are happy for. Nero gazed down at his beautiful baby girl remarking. "Mommy and I can't wait until you come home with us, you've got a big brother who can't wait to meet you too" he kisses her on the cheek softly. Talaya lets go of her mother's hand trying to grab onto her daddy's fingers, he helps her by moving his fingers closer so she can reach them, she does, she starts sucking on them. Nero jokes. "She can't be teething already, Mama" she chuckles. "No, she's not yet, but she seems to love your fingers" Nero looked over at his wife in amusement. "I don't know why you're surprised so do you" she quipped, lightly smacking him admitting truthfully. "Damn right" clearing her throat, Gemma glances at her husband asking. "Can I hold her now?" he smiles replying. "Sure, here you go" Nero gets up from the chair bending down gently handing her the little girl, Gemma meets him halfway taking Talaya into her arms she whispers to her baby. "I love you, sweetheart" She hands him the baby and he gently places her back into her isolate, gazes down at her beautiful face, he strokes her cheek with his finger, she sneezes, he smiles "Ooh, bless you" adding "We love you, Mija" Gemma walks over to them placing her hand on his arm, Nero turns around looking at her, he moves out of the way letting her have a moment with the baby.
"Hey, baby girl" Gemma says, stroking Talaya's cheek with her fingers softly. Nero sat back down into the rocking chair again listening to his wife talk to their baby.
She looked at her husband. "Babe can you hand me my purse, please?" she asked.
"Sure" he said.
Handing her her purse, she opens it up taking out the book she bought earlier.
"Hey sweetie, I bought you a book do you want hear it?" she asked.
She starts to read it...
Gemma continued. "We love you, baby" she kissed her on the forehead, standing up from the chair slowly she walks over to the isolate placing Talaya in it gently. "We'll be back soon okay" she whispers, noticing that when she and Nero are talking to her, her heart rate goes up which they were told was Talaya's way of responding to them, that she knows their voices and knows they are there with her. She whispers again. "I see your heart rate is going up, sweetie, you know we're here" closing the window laying her homemade blanket back on top. Nero hands Gemma her purse as the two gazed at their baby one last time before leaving, both feeling empty inside.
Once outside they take off their gowns throwing them in the hazard waste bin. Gemma walks over to the bench and sits down, Nero follows sitting down beside her, looking down, putting her hand on her forehead she breaks into tears, her shoulders shake, as his arms wrap around his wife trying to comfort her. "Hey, hey" he says whispers. "It's okay, Mama, she's gonna be home soon" he whispered again, she sniffles, her tear stained face looks up at her husband, his fingers gently wipe the tears from her face. She smiles, he can always make her feel better as she cups his face with her hands kissing him on his lips, he kisses back softly. He stands from the bench, Nero reaches for his wife's hand she takes it as he helps her up and they walk to the elevators. As they walk down the hallway hand in hand, Gemma gazes up at him suddenly saying. "Thank you" Nero says back. "You're welcome" knowing what she's talking about. The couple continues walking out of the hospital together and head home.
The Next Day: December 21nd Jax and Wendy's House Afternoon – 3pm:
She smiles remarking happily. "Well, congratulations you two I'm so happy for you, so when is the renewing of the vows?" Wendy speaks up admitting. "We haven't gotten that far yet, but we want to do it like in the next few days or so" Gemma nodded her head understanding. "Mm hmm, well in a few days it's Christmas though" Nero whose been quiet the whole time chimes in congratulating them. "Congrats, so happy for you" he smiles at them both. "Thanks, man" the young man replies back, as Wendy cut in. " Yeah, thanks, Nero" Gemma gets up from her chair as does Wendy, Jax and Nero, Gemma and Nero hugged them, with Gemma cupping Wendy's face then looking at her son whose standing there nervously with his hands in his pockets. "I want to plan a wedding party" Both of them look at each other when Jax speaks up. "Fine, Ma whatever it's not like we can argue with you" Gemma smirks placing her hands on her hips. "That's right because you know I'll do it anyway" Taking a deep breath Jax speaks again. "Mom, are you sure you want to do all this?" adding. "With all the stress with the baby" She nods. Getting out of the car, Nero opens the back door calling out. "Kayla, Lucius, we're home!" Gemma stepped inside placing her and Nero's keys on the counter. "Kayla called back from Lucius's room. "We're in here!" Nero goes to Lucius's room to check on him while Gemma walks into their room to take off her shoes then puts her purse on the dresser while Nero walked into nursery to put the mobile onto the crib.
Five minutes later, Gemma walks into the dining room, glancing down at the table she notices Lucius's adoption papers are still there where they had been left, putting on her reading glasses she takes a seat at the table and continues to fill out the rest of the papers meanwhile Nero who is done placing the mobile onto Talaya's crib is in his son's room talking with him and Kayla, a short time later he goes to check on his wife. "What are you doing?" he asks placing his hands on her shoulders as she answers back still looking at the papers. "I'm trying to finish filling out Lucius's adoption papers" saying nothing he goes over and sits down beside her at the table silently watching.
The Next Day: December 22nd - Afternoon 4pm
Gemma is waiting for Ally Lowen, to come by the house, moments earlier she called her on the phone she's gotten Lucius's adoption papers all signed, the other woman can come to get them and submit them the courts. She has handed Lowen Lucius's adoption papers sealed in an envelope, she stands up from the chair and Gemma walks her to the door. "Thank you" the older woman said. "You're welcome, I'll submit these and rush them through as fast as I can, I'll call you when it's official" Gemma smiles nodding, Ally walks to her car as Gemma closed the door behind her.
6pm:
Gemma walked into hers and Nero's bedroom where he was reading a book, he looked up from the book to see his wife standing there he asked curiously, "Hey Mama, what's going on?" closing his book, he gives his wife his full attention, "I know we haven't discussed this yet with each other, so we can do it now, I was wondering if you'd want to go shopping with Wendy and I tomorrow, since you and I have to get the baby a few things anyway before she comes back and Wendy and I wanted to also get some presents for Abel as well" Gemma says explaining as she crawled onto her side of the bed patiently waiting for his answer. The Shopping Center: 1:15pm

"Okay let's go over to the toys, babe to get the boys some presents" Nero responds back. "Okay, Mama" he looks at her asking. "We are done in this section now right?" Gemma just nods, stating. "For now" as they head over to the toy section.
They arrive at the toys moments later, looking at all of them hoping to find somethings for Abel. Just then Wendy appears beside the couple with her cart full of toys and clothes. "Hey you two" Gemma gasps, putting her hand on her heart. "Jesus Christ!" she added breathing heavily. "You scared me!" Wendy half smiles at the older woman, apologizing. "Sorry, Gemma, well, I found a lot of gifts for Abel" Gemma smirks looking inside her cart. "I can see that" the biker queen exhales sharply replying. "I just got into the toy section, still trying to find things considering a lot of the isles are emptied of most toys" Gemma looked down into the other woman's cart Wendy asking. "Where did you get all that stuff from?" Wendy shrugged her shoulders. "Around" Gemma groaned. "Ugh, that's no help" she looks back at her daughter in law saying nothing as the blonde comes over suggesting. "I got an idea, why do you two just give some of the presents for Abel that I got and I'll pay for them myself" she adds. "Since you guys aren't having Christmas until later anyways and with the baby and all...she said trailing off" Gemma takes offense putting her hands on her hips. "You think, I can't buy my grand baby some measly presents?" Wendy steps back, hands raised up, replying with a surprised tone. "Whoa, Gemma that's not it at all, I'm just trying to help you two out, you are under enough stress, plus all the baby's medical bills are most likely gonna cost a lot and I know you'll have to pay them" Nero walked over to his wife placing his hands on her shoulders whispering in her ear. "Mama, you gotta calm down okay" the matriarch's eyes close at hearing his soft, calming voice, she exhales heavily turning around and leans into her husband, he kisses her on the forehead, they stay there wrapped in each others arms for a few moments while Gemma tries to calm herself down.
After 5 minutes, Gemma turns to face Wendy to apologize "I'm sorry for taking offense to the idea" she exhales then continues. "I know you're just trying to help, thank you" the two women hug with Gemma kissing her soon to be daughter in law on the cheek, silence builds for a brief few seconds then gives away to Gemma saying. "I like the idea" Wendy just smiles saying nothing, the three of them walk off to grab some scotch tape, some wrapping paper and name tag labels for the gifts and all three go to pay for their items.
Gemma, Nero and Wendy leave the store minutes later, Nero gives the women a hand placing everything in the car. They all get into the car, put on their seat belts and head home. Arriving back, Wendy and Gemma open the trunk and divide the gifts between themselves. After a few minutes the gifts are divided, Gemma looks at her asking. "Sweetheart, how are you going to hide all of these presents?" Wendy looked back at her soon to be mother in law replying. "Well, if anything, I'll put them in the garage for now" the older woman nodded. Gemma lends a hand to the younger woman with the presents she's taking with her and they put them in the garage while Nero pushes the remaining gifts he and Gemma are going to give to the boys back into the truck slamming it shut.
The two women get back into the car once again, putting on their seat belts as Nero starts the engine and they head back home. They arrive home a little while later. Wendy gets out first, Nero shuts off the car handing the keys back to his wife. "Here, Mama" he said as she takes the keys from him putting them in her purse along with her phone and sunglasses. Wendy's already in the house while Gemma and Nero are bringing in the baby stuff they got, Gemma tries to pick up the stroller by herself, Nero notices this and quickly runs over to her, his fingers lightly touch her. "Nah, Mama let me get that, it's too heavy for you" she smiles letting it go as he kisses her on the lips. Gemma instead picked up the bags of clothes and the baby items carrying them into the house and upstairs in the nursery, Nero is carrying the stroller/carrier into the house placing it in the corner in the nursery, Gemma shuts the door behind her yelling out. "We're home!" Kayla yelled back. "I know!"
Once in the nursery, Gemma bent down unpacking the bags placing the clothes and socks in the baby's dresser, then put the bumper on tying it around the crib, finally she places the pacifier and holder on the dresser.
She leaves the nursery and makes her way into Lucius's room where Wendy is getting Abel ready to go home, grandma Gemma and grandpa Nero kiss Abel goodbye, Nero walk them to the door once they are outside he shuts the door closed.
He returned to his son bedroom moments later, where Gemma is helping him cleaning up the game. The two put the game back, then she helps him to his bed, Nero sat beside him while Gemma sat on the other side.
"Nero" she called to him.
He looks to her answering. "Yeah?"
"Let's get the tree now" she suggests.
He smiles. "Okay" pausing, his head turns toward his son, he asks. "Do you want to get a tree now, Mijo?"
The boy perks up, smiling brightly. "Yeah!" Gemma flashes a smile to her stepson. "Let's go" she said, rising from the bed extended her hand out to him, he takes it while his father helps him standing up with his crutches as they all walk slowly to the kitchen, with his free hand, Nero grabs his wife's purse for her. "Here, Mama, your purse" she smiles replying. "Thanks, baby" she said, taking it from him, their hands lightly brush over each others creating a spark. Kayla offers to stay behind at the house and wait for them to return, Gemma and Nero said it's okay.
Once they get into the kitchen, Nero carefully picks up his son carrying him while Gemma starts taking his crutches into her other hand, but puts them down. Her head turns to her husband, suggesting. "Babe, I think his wheelchair would be a better idea to to take with us instead" he thought about this for a few minutes then nodded, agreeing. " Yeah, now that I think about it, it'd be faster too plus he wouldn't have to walk all around and wouldn't hurt himself" Gemma walks back into Lucius's room placing his crutches against the wall and returns carrying the wheelchair which is folded up.
Gemma tries to open it up, but is struggling, Nero quickly sits Lucius down in the empty chair and helps his wife with the wheelchair, after a few minutes they finally get it open, Gemma gently picks Lucius placing him into the chair. "Let's go!" the boy said excitedly. The couple smiles at each other and Nero begins pushing his son out the door as Gemma grabbed her purse, which her keys and phone are already in there, placing it on her arm, then puts on her sunglasses, she trails behind them and turning around to lock up the house.
The Tree Place: 3pm
The three of them arrive where the trees are 10 minutes later, Nero and Gemma pulled out the wheelchair from the trunk opening it up next Nero opened up the backseat taking his son out placing him into the chair, with this time Gemma pushing Lucius as Nero walked beside them an ax in his hand.
They gazed around the lot looking for the perfect tree finally Lucius spots the one he wants. "I want this one!" the boy shouted pointing out the tree. Gemma stops the wheelchair and Nero cuts down the tree. "Yay!" Lucius says happily. Nero carries the tree back to the car while Gemma still pushes Lucius's wheelchair, they three stop when they get to the SUV, Nero ties it to the roof with some rope then Gemma carries Lucius into the car buckling him in and Nero places his wheelchair into the truck slamming the door shut. Gemma shuts the side door then slides into the passenger seat as Nero gets into the drivers seat, Nero starts the car and they head home once again.
The family arrived back a while later, Nero unties the tree from the top of the car, Gemma starts to help him get it down, but he stops her pushing her hands away. "Mama, don't worry, I've got it" she stepped back with her hands raised. "Okay, okay" Instead she waits patiently for him to take the tree in once that's done, Nero walks back out to get his son as Gemma popped open the truck getting the folded wheelchair out, she opens it up, Nero places his son in it carefully pushing his son into the house.
He gets his boy into the kitchen, stopping the chair putting on the brakes while he and Gemma figure out where to put the tree.
Gemma placed her hands on her hips thinking about where the tree could go without messing up the house.
"Well, Mama, where do you want this thing to go?" Nero asked holding the tree up.
"Hold on, sweetheart, I'm thinking" She replied back.
After a few silent moments, Gemma says. "Okay, let's put it over...there" pointing to the corner in the dinning room. Nero moves it over to where she wants it, but asks. "Are you sure it's gonna fit over here, Mama? it's pretty big, we might need to move somethings"
She's exhales deeply, placing her hands on her hips, replying back. "Well, I think it's okay for now, but if we have to, we'll move it" pausing she continues. "Let's get the tree trunk and tree skirt" Gemma carries over the tree trunk while Nero grabs the tree skirt. "Here, Mama, let do that" he offers as she hands the truck to him, he places it into the tree and Gemma bends down placing the skirt on the trunk. After that's done, Nero looked to his son whose just quietly watching them. "Hey, Mijo, do you want to put the water inside the trunk for the tree?" he asks. Lucius nods his head. Gemma turns her head, smiling at her stepson walking over the little boy and helped him from of his wheelchair carrying the boy over his father, she gets down on the floor with Lucius and brings over some water. "Here, sweetheart, put the water in here" she said pointing to the trunk, he does. "Good job!" she praises kissing him on the cheek, he smiled at her as Nero looks on.
Next Nero gets up from the floor grabbing the box with the ornaments, tinsel and lights setting it down gently. "Well, let's get the tree decorated" he announced, getting the light out first. "Mama, you want to give me a hand with the lights?" he asked, she nodded moving over to help him within a few minutes the lights are on the tree.
Gemma turns to look at Lucius who is setting on the floor. "Would you like to help put on the ornaments?" the boy smiles both Gemma and Nero help him up from the floor taking his small hands into hers and walk him around the tree to put the ornaments on. Just then Kayla appears in the room joining the three of them. "Wow, what a great tree!" she exclaims smiling. "Thanks, baby" Gemma said. Kayla asks. "Do you guys need any help?" Gemma shakes her head. "That's okay, we've got it" the younger woman announces. "Well, I think I'll head home now, see you guys later" They all say goodbye to Kayla and lets herself out. A while later the tree is now decorated for Christmas. Nero turns on the lights, they all get up from the floor with both Gemma and Nero holding onto Lucius who is still sitting on the floor, they whispering looking at the tree. "It's beautiful"
Two Days Later: Christmas MorningDecember 25th 2am
Gemma and Nero and Jax and Wendy are both wrapping gifts, finally after an hour the two couples are done, with Jax and Wendy placing all the presents under the tree, while Gemma and Nero place the presents for the boys under their tree as well.
After staying up a few more minutes, Gemma yawns, rubbing her eyes. Baby, I'm so tired, let's go to bed" with that Nero gets up from the chair extending his hand out to his wife, she takes it graciously, he wraps his arms around her helping her into her side of the bed, he covers her up and bent down kissing her on her forehead, whispering. "Goodnight, baby, I love you" Gemma murmured sleepily. "Love you, too" Nero gets into his side of the bed, drifting off to sleep himself seconds later.
A Few Hours Later: Padilla Residence – Morning 9am
Gemma stirred awake, slowly opening her eyes, but quickly closes them as the sun brightly shines into them, she groans loudly. "Oh!" this reaction wake up her husband, he slowly opens his eyes looking at her beautiful face. "Hey, Merry Christmas, Mama" he says caressing her cheek with his fingertip. "Hey, yourself, Merry Christmas" they kiss as Nero moves closer to his wife, they both fall silent for a few moments trying to wake up. "I should go see if Lucius is awake" Nero says getting up from the bed. Gemma yawns. "Okay well, I'm gonna go brush my teeth and take a quick shower" he nodded, padding his way to his son's bedroom.
Gemma walks the few steps to the bathroom, closing the door behind her. First she goes to the bathroom, next quickly brushes her teeth, she undresses and goes over to the tub and turns on the water fixing the temperature making sure it's not too hot or too cold, it's perfect for her then she pulls up the knob for the shower, the water sprays out as she steps in letting the water running down her tired body.
Meanwhile, Nero is in his son's room where they are talking. "Merry Christmas, Mijo" he helps his son up from the bed and gives him is a kiss and hug. "Merry Christmas, Papi" after a few minutes, Nero continues speaking. "Let's get you dressed, because Gemma and I have a special Christmas surprise for you" Lucius's eyes lit up at hearing the news of a surprise. "What is it, dad?" he asks. "You'll just have to wait and see, Mijo" Lucius looks up sadly at his father. "Don't worry, you'll love it" Nero goes over to Lucius's dresser picking out some clothes for him to wear, a pair of pants and a t-shirt, Nero puts on the pants, then places the t-shirt over his son head, saying. "Arms up" Lucius struggles for a bit trying to get his arms up so Nero helps him by putting the shirt on his arms for him. "There you go, all dressed" Next he gets his boy's shoes placing them on his feet.
Teller/Case Residence: - Morning 9:30am
Wendy, Jax are awake having breakfast together enjoying the quietness while waiting for Abel to awaken.
Back at Gemma and Nero's, Gemma's out of the shower and dressed while Nero is in the bathroom getting ready and taking a shower himself. Gemma brings Lucius out into the kitchen, sitting him down in the chair. "What, would you like for breakfast, sweetheart?" she asks as she makes herself and Nero some coffee. "Cereal" he says simply. Gemma gets box of Lucky Charms down, grabs a bowl and spoon, then opens the fridge getting the milk, she pours the cereal into the bowl then pours in the milk and places the spoon in the bowl and places the bowl in front of him. "Here you go, baby" he smiles thanking her. "Thanks" he takes a spoonful of the cereal and asks. "Can I have some juice to drink?" Gemma smiles. "Sure" she said getting a cup from the cupboard and getting the juice out pouring it in the cup and places it beside him. "Here's your juice" he just smiles, then continues to eat.
The coffee is now done, Gemma already has hers and is drinking it when Nero emerges from the bathroom. "Hey Mama, is that coffee?" he asked. "Mm hmm" she replies back taking a few more gulps of her coffee. Gemma gets up from the chair, walking over to the counter, she pops two pieces of toast into the toaster. While waiting for the toast to get done she makes Nero come coffee. "Here, babe" she said handing the cup him warning."Careful, it's hot" Nero smiles replying, "Thanks, Mama" she smiles back replying. "You're welcome"
Just then the toast pops up, Gemma walks over to get it, putting butter on it, then gets a plate from the cupboard placing the two pieces on it and sits down next to her husband and stepson to eat. Nero gets up from his chair grabbing an apple for breakfast.
After a few more minutes, everyone has finished their breakfast. Nero gets up and grabs his son's crutches from the other room while Gemma helps him up from the chair, Nero returns seconds later with the crutches handing them to him, with both helping him put them on. "Are we ready to go?" Nero nods. Gemma grabs her purse, keys, phone throwing everything in it. Nero hands her, her sunglasses. "Here, Mama, you'll need these" she smiles. Nero puts his sunglasses on and walks out the door with Gemma closing the door and locking it, then she continues to the car walking beside Lucius making sure he doesn't fall.
Once they get to the car, Nero puts his son into the car buckling him into the seat, then places the crutches in the backseat with Lucius as Gemma gets into the drivers seat, buckles her seatbelt, while walks to passenger side getting in and buckles his seatbelt and head off to the hospital, a surprise they both know Lucius will love because he'll be meeting his baby sister for the first time.
St. Thomas Hospital – Morning 10am
After a half hour, Gemma pulls into the hospital, she looks around for a parking spot, finding one she parks the car turning off the engine announcing. "We're here" Lucius looks around confused. "What are we doing here, Gemma?" she just smiles replying. "You'll see soon" Nero gets out of the car unbuckling his son's seatbelt while Gemma opens the back door to get his crutches. She walks around to the other side bending down his level handing him the crutches. "Here you go, baby" she helped him putting the crutches onto his arms as they walk make their way into the hospital.
Once inside the hospital, Nero carries his son the rest of the way to elevators while Gemma has the crutches on her hand, she presses the elevator button with her free hand, seconds later, the door ding open, they walk in, Nero presses the button for the 3rd floor then the doors close moving up to the 3rd floor.
Seconds later, they all arrive at the 3rd floor, stepping off, Nero puts Lucius down on the floor, Gemma bends down handing him his crutches once again and they walk slowly to the NICU.
They continued walking down the hallway finally reaching outside the NICU, Gemma and Nero stop at the doors. Lucius asks. "What's going on?" Why did we stop here?" Nero nods at his wife letting her it's okay to tell him now. Gemma bends down in front of her stepson, facing him. "Well, we thought you might want to see your baby sister" she said waiting for his reaction to the surprise. Lucius smiles brightly at the news. "Really?" I'm going to see her!" he can't hold onto his excitement. "Yay"! They both nod, chuckling so happy for him. "Well, we're here okay" Gemma announces, he nods as they go to wash their hands and get gowned up. Next they take Lucius into wash his hands and get a gown on.
They walk to the doors, Gemma presses the button to the intercom. "Can I help you?" a garbled voice said. "We are here for Atalaya Padilla" Gemma replied back. The doors buzz open and they go in looking around for their baby's incubator, they find it closer to the front of the room this time. They see Amy with their little girl, she smiles as she sees them coming motioning them over. "Hi Gemma, Nero" the couple smiles greeting the young nurse.
"Hey" Gemma says peering into her little girl's isolate.
"Hi" Nero says.
"How is she doing today?" Gemma asks looking at Amy.
The nurse smiles. "She's still doing great"
Relief washes over Gemma as Amy notice the young boy beside Nero. "And whose this?" she asks bending down to Lucius's level, Nero answers. "My son, Lucius and Talaya's big brother" Amy extended her hand out to the boy. "It's nice to meet you, Lucius, I'm Amy, your baby sister's nurse, I take care of her" he shakes her hand. "Nice to meet you, too and thank you for taking care of my sister" Amy pats his shoulder replying back. "You're welcome, I'm happy too"After a few moments, Amy leaves the family alone to give them some privacy and to check on some of her other patients.
Nero grabbed a rocking chair placing Lucius in it while Gemma pulls over two more rockers over for she and Nero to sit in when Lucius asks. "Can I hold her?" Gemma replies. "Sure, but we'll help you okay" he nods in understanding. Gemma asks. "Do you want to get her? or should I?" shrugging her shoulders she responds."It doesn't matter to me" with that, Nero gets up from the chair and opens up the isolate gently taking out the tiny baby out, she opens her eyes looking at her father. "Hey, Mija, I have someone I want you to meet, your big brother, Lucius" Nero brings the baby over to his son putting her in his arms with Gemma helping to support her head. Talaya looks at the little boy cooing. "She likes me!" he exclaims happily. "Of course she does, your her big brother, she loves you" Gemma says looking down at her daughter as Lucius's kisses his baby sister on her forehead saying. "I love you"
