Meditating with Lord Vader was always a welcome part of a demanding week. To many of the high ranking officials, Vader was a terrifying enforcer, but when he didn't need to be intimidating, he could be patient, funny, and almost kind. Maybe somewhere in his past, he had been a brother, a teacher, or a father. Maybe he just had empathy for any student of Lord Palpatine. The Emperor could outwardly appear sickenly sweet while crawling through your mind to find your darkest secrets to use for his own purposes.

"Lord Vader, Dolya, your presence has been requested by the Emperor, " one of the imperial servants relayed. This short reprieve was over.

They stood up and started to make their way through the hallway. "Perhaps you will meet your new master today," Vader suggested with a tilt of his helmet.

She tried to calm her mind, "Do you have any idea who I might be assigned to?" In the Empire, it was not uncommon for command to fall to crude and callus men.

Sensing her apprehension Vader replied almost soothingly, "Lord Palpatine would not place you in the care of an officer that would cause you harm."

"I didn't think he cared at all for my well-being."

"He doesn't." She thought she could sense a sad and ironic smile under his helmet, "He does however, care about the loss of a valuable asset, one that he personally invested time to craft."

This was beyond expectation for comfort while serving in the Empire.
