It was the next morning, day 2 of vacation for both Kim and Adam. Kim woke up with a large smile still plastered on her face. She couldn't wait to get on her morning run. Kim took her phone off the charger and sent Adam a message right away. "Good morning! I hope you slept well. I will be ready in 30 minutes for our run. Can't wait to see you again." Kim headed into the bathroom to get herself ready for her run. When she returned to her room to dress for the run she heard her phone buzz.
Adam was waking up from a dream when he heard his phone buzz. He smiled knowing it was Kim. We smiled wider reading her message and replied right away. "Good morning! I slept well and I hope you did too. I'm getting ready now and I will see you soon. I'm excited for this run today. Only because I get to see you beautiful." Adam sent his message and then headed to the bathroom to get ready. He had a situation he needed to rectify before leaving for his run. After he got ready he headed outside to stretch and wait for Kim.
Kim stretched, grabbed a water and headed towards Adam. As she jogged towards his house she saw him outside waiting for her. His smile got wider as she got closer. As soon as she got in front of him he opened his arms for a hug. She happily accepted the hug. Taking in his scent as he held her tighter. As he pulled away he held onto her arms softly as he looked deep in her eyes. "Let's head out." Kim pointed in the direction of they would be running. They headed towards the center in town. Neither spoke as they picked up speed. Kim hit her stride as they hit the main road. Adam was surprised how good of a runner Kim was. He was having a slightly hard time keeping up but he wouldn't tell her that.
As they turned back Kim picked up her speed a bit more. Adam struggled to keep up but he managed. He watched as she took a slight detour as they got closer to their road. He wasn't sure where she was headed but she slowed down to walk into a shopping center. He followed her as she walked through to find a staircase that he would have over looked. He watched her climb the stairs and motioned for him to follow. As they headed up the stairs Kim entered a shop he stood behind as they entered. "Good morning Kim. Your usual?" The women asked. "Yes please and can you cut it in half? I'm sharing it with my friend." Kim asked. "Of course. Enjoy you two. See you later. I will a piece aside for you." Kim waved as they left the shop and headed towards the tables. Adam was watching her amused and confused.
"So you are a regular here?" Adam asked as they sat down. "Something like that. I do enjoy their pastries though. It's part of why I run so much. Helps burn the extra fat and calories. Now take a bite, I want to see your expression when you see how amazing it is." Kim sat and waited, watching as he dug into his piece of the homemade cinnamon roll. "OMG this is amazing! I see why you come here now. What's the afternoon thing?" Adam asked as they ate their snack. "I come back for a piece of their Death by Chocolate cake. It's so good and the frosting is so lite. It literally melts." Kim was smiling wide and doing a little dance in her seat thinking about it. "I'm loving this side of you. The foodie in you. Are you a junk food addict?" Adam laughed as she looked offended. "No. Not really just enjoy certain foods that make me happy. It's nice to enjoy food sometimes without worrying about the consequences." Kim admitted.
"Is it really that bad? Having to watch her intake?" Adam shook his head. "Sometimes. It's really only my dance instructor who freaks about it. No one else does really. Though my parents aren't good judges of healthy eating so I fend for myself where health is concerned." Kim shrugged knowing it was an off topic. "Well I think you look amazing. You don't need to be so careful but I understand. You ready to head back?" They cleaned up their little table and headed home. This time they walked hand in hand. It felt so natural and comfortable. Was it possible to have such strong feelings for someone you barely knew. Maybe?
As they stood by Kim's house again Adam held here hand longer. "I'm not ready to let you go. Will I see you at the beach again today?" Adam asked her. "Of course! And this feels nice, being with you. But I promise I will be on the beach in less than an hour. Come visit me." Kim kissed his cheek before heading inside. He waited till she was inside for heading back to his place to get ready himself. Kim sat and ate breakfast before taking a quick shower and then headed to the beach. She had a different bathing suit on then yesterday, it showed slightly more skin so that would mean extra sunscreen. But she wasn't concerned.
She arrived to find Adam already there. He had a cooler this time so it seemed he was better prepared for a long day in the sun. She settled her things close by but not right next to each other. She sprayed her sunscreen on while in the shade and sat to let it set before heading to the water. Adam had been watching her the entire time. She looked incredible in this bathing suit. He could see much more skin then yesterday but it was still tasteful. When she headed towards the water Adam followed her a few steps behind her. They slowly got into the deeper water trying not to get hit by the waves.
They were waist deep in the water talking about nothing important but enjoying the time together. As Kim saw her family coming to the beach Kim and Adam separated and Kim moved back towards her chair. Adam swam a bit longer before heading to his chair again. They shared looked throughout the day making sure no one was looking first. Adams family showed up shortly after Kims. They both knew time together tonight wouldn't happen but Kim hoped they could get the piece of cake together later. She would ask but she needed to wait a bit.
Adam listened as Kim's mom rambled on about family time and how they came here to spend time together. Not have Kim run off on her own all week. He felt bad for her, he could tell she wanted a break and this trip was that. He watched as Kim focused her book. He needs to ask about it. Adams dad and sister were both doing their own thing on the beach and didn't bother him. He saw Kim put her book down before heading away from the beach. He also heard her say she was headed to the bathroom. He waisted a few minutes before he headed in that direction as well. He called out her once they were far from their families, she turned and smiled wide. "Hey. I just wanted a minute with you. Before we both have to head back. I know you need to go so I will wait for you, have a moment and then head towards my place." Adam said as they kept walking. "Sounds good. I will just be quick." Kim smiled as she headed in.
When she returned Adam was still waiting. He smiled as she walked closer. "I've missed our time together today. But I love that I can look over and see you smile at me." Kim reaches out to hold his hand. "Me too. But later when you head for cake, text me and I will meet you. At least we can have a few minutes alone together." Adam squeezed her hand and kissed her forehead lightly. "Perfect. See you soon." Kim winked as she headed back towards the beach. Adam smiled as he watched her walked away. He headed home to use the restroom before returning to the beach.
They continued to hanging out at the beach with their families till Kim decided to head back to have a shower and then to the bakery. Kim sent a text to Adam letting him know the plan. He waited till she was gone 30 minutes to head back. He showered when he got home and got dressed before heading out to meet Kim. "Hey ready to head towards the bakery?" Kim asked as Adam offered his hand to walk in the proper direction. "What's the plan for tonight with your family?" Adam asked as they walked. "Um dinner and then mini golf. Maybe some ice cream. Then home before 9 I'm sure. Might head to the beach to read some tonight. What about you guys?" Kim asked curious as to what they had planned. "Dinner in town and then some activity, I wouldn't mind mini golf but I doubt my sister will want that. So who knows." Adam shrugged as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Holding her closer as they walked. Kim wrapped her arm around his waist enjoying how this felt.
They arrived at the same spot as this morning. She got the cake and brought down two forks. "Okay let's get after this!' Adam watched as Kim took the first bite. The happy dance was infectious. "Okay this is good. I can see why you are doing the happy dance." Adam laughed, it was really adorable. "Are you enjoying the cake?" Kim asked as they sat eating and holding hands. "It's really good and even better cause I'm with you." Adam commented as he looking lovingly at her. "I'm really glad we could be together today. Can I tell you something?" Kim asked as she looked down at her plate. "Of course. Is something wrong?" Adam was concerned now. "Not really I just really like this time together and I just wonder what's going to happen when we head home. Are we going to stay in touch?" Kim looked sad and it hurt him in ways he didn't know.
"I don't want whatever this is to end when we go back to Chicago. I want us to stay in contact and I would really like to continue hanging out with you. I don't know how to explain it but you make me feel things that I can't explain. I don't want that to end or change. What about you?" Adam asked her. "Yeah I want to stay in contact with you too. I'm happier when we are together. And I also feel things with you that I don't understand either. It's crazy but I like you a lot." Kim confessed. "I really like you too." Adam leaned forward and pressed his lips softly on hers. Feeling her kiss back before pulling away to look into each other's eyes.
Adams phone buzzed, he groaned looking at his phone. "Sorry I need to head back. Walk with me?" Adam extended his hand to help her up. "Yeah let's go." Kim wrapped her arm around his waist as they headed back towards their homes. "If you go to the beach to read tonight. Let me know. I will meet you. At least we would be together." Adam asked as they walked. "Sure that would be nice." Kim looked up smiling at him. "What are you reading anyway?" Adam asked, he meant to ask sooner but had forgotten. "It's a crime drama. I read a lot of crime novels. I find them more realistic and interesting." Kim shrugged. "Cool sounds interesting." Adam offered. "You know what. I'm going to finish the book then you can borrow it and let me know what you think." Kim suggested and Adam nodded. As they got to just before his house he pulled her into the trees to say goodbye before his dad saw them.
"I just wanted to say bye before we head further. I had fun today and I really enjoy our conversation. And I really enjoyed our kiss earlier." Adam held her face. "I really did too and I hope it's not the last." Kim leaned into his hand. Adam smiled as he leaned forward to kiss her lips again. It was soft and sweet. As soon as she backed away slightly Adam leaned back in for a series of small pecks before his phone buzzed again. "I'm sorry I really have to go." Adam kissed her one last time before walking into the driveway. Kim waited 2 minutes before she walked past the house to head back to her house.
As they headed separate ways they could help but think about their first kiss together. It was magical and felt incredibly right. Kim arrived home shortly after knowing they were having dinner soon but she headed to the deck to read while she waited. Adam had barely gotten inside when he dad started on him. "Adam where were you? You know we have to leave soon." Bob was annoyed at Adam for his lack of interest in spending time together. "I went for a walk. I'm here now so let's go then." Adam huffed as he headed back towards the car. He didn't want his good mood ruin by his dad.
They headed out to a local seafood restaurant where they had a nice meal together before heading out to a family fun park. It had mini golf, arcade, bumper cars and a go cart track. They spent several hours there running around and having fun. Adam has kept an eye out for Kim knowing they were headed out for mini golf as well. He figured there had to be more than one place to play here. But it didn't stop him from looking around for her.
Kim's family ate dinner at home before heading out. They chose her mother's favorite place that had a train to take you to the top and you played through the 'gold mine'. It was fun enough but Kim wanted to get home with the hope of seeing Adam again. After golf they headed to get ice cream from a local place that carried a ton of flavors including plain chocolate for her mother who would gag at the thought of eating anything vanilla. It was dramatic and embarrassing to say the least.
Once they arrived home Kim headed to the beach with her book. She really wanted to finish it to lend to Adam. She thought he would enjoy it since his dad was a cop. And truly it was an interesting book. She grabbed her blanket, some water and her book before grabbing the flashlight and headed down to the beach. She texted Adam when she got there hoping he would be able to get away again.
Adam hadn't gotten home yet but he was able to text letting her know he would be there soon. He had enough of family time and was ready for alone time with Kim. He felt at ease with her, happy and more like himself. Away from the family drama that plagued his life. Once they were home he told his dad he wanted to go watch the stars on the beach. His dad reluctantly allowed it knowing it would cause a fight if he said no. As soon as he arrived he found Kim right away with her flashlight lit. It looked more like a lamp but it allowed her to read. He saw her look up as his shoes hit the stairs.
She got up right away to hug him, happy to be with him again. She leaned up to peck his lips before leading him to her blanket. They laid together, Kim curled into his side as she read. They really just wanted to be close to one another in this moment. The rest didn't matter. She placed the book down when she finished it and laid her head on his chest. Looking towards him, she ran her fingers over his chest. "I really like this. It's so peaceful here. And it's even better being here with you." Kim whispered as she moved closer to him. "Me too. I really wasn't happy about this trip but being with you made it so much better. I'm glad I came here." Adam rolled them slightly so he could kiss her again.
He couldn't get enough of her lips. And she seemed to be in the same boat. Kim felt his tongue on her lips she hesitated but opened her mouth to let him in. She was afraid she would be a bad kisser since she hadn't done this before but she followed his lead and before long they both had their hands in each other's hair holding them close till they were gasping for air. They rested their foreheads against each other as they tried to catch their breaths. "I can't believe this is happening. I never expected this on vacation. You're amazing." Kim whispered as she kissed him softly. "Agreed. I really want to continue this when we get home. I feel whole, I don't know if that makes sense but that's what it feels like." Adam whispered back kissing her again. "We're So young but this feels to good to be wrong." Kim confesses as she kissed him harder this time. "I agree." Adam pulled her back into his side as they laid under the stars again. It had been a beautiful night. A night full of firsts for them both.
Kim started to fall asleep in Adams arms. He knew that would end badly so he had to wake her. "Kim you can't fall asleep here. In my arms always but not right now on the beach. We have to get home before our parents come looking for us." He wasn't panicking yet but they would come looking soon. "Fine but one more kiss then I will start heading back. And I finished the book for you." Kim asked him knowing he would most likely give in. He didn't answer just leaned in kiss her. Their make out session didn't last long enough for either of them but they knew time was limited. And they were right, Kim barely made it to the end of the walkway when her mother showed up wondering where she had been.
Adam watched hidden in plain sight til they were gone before heading home. The house was dark when he arrived so he went straight to bed. He opened the book trying to give it a shot. He owed that much to Kim who was making him feel alive again. But he wondered how Kim was fairing just a few houses away. Her mother looked pissed off but she had no reason to be. Kim was just on a beach, reading a book and kissing some guy who she had only met the day before. Now it looked bad. They hadn't even defined what they were but they were making out like the teenagers they were. He needed to fix that and quick. After reading a few chapters he fell as,eep dreaming of Kim again.
Kim's night had been a lecture about being responsible and not staying out all night. But she didn't care, she could still feel Adams lips on hers. It was the greatest moment in life so far. Nothing could ruin this moment. She was eventually sent to her room for the night which was no great punishment since she was tired anyway. She set her alarm for early the next morning for her run. She wondered if Adam would join her again. She hoped so but didn't want to push it. They were undefined and maybe this was just a summer fling. Yeah they said they would stay in touch in Chicago but life was busy. Maybe it was all talk or hopefulness. She didn't know but she fell asleep happy, so full of joy at how the day had gone. She never imagine it could be this good when she woke that morning. Dreams of Adam swirled in her head as she feel further into a deep sleep.
