Kim awoke around 2 drenched in a cold sweat. Her breathing was heavy, it was a nightmare. She needed help and the one person who could help was not here. She decided to grab a drink and head to the deck. The ocean always calmed her. She also took her phone so she could call Adam. She wrapped her favorite blanket around her before calling him. She felt bad since it was the middle of the night but she needed to hear his voice. "Darling are you okay?" Adam was alarmed by the call so early. "No. I had a nightmare. I'm sitting outside on the deck now. I'm not sure I can sleep again." Kim was still waking up from the nightmare, the fear and pain still running through her body. "Baby! Do you want me to come over?" Adam was t sure what to do right now. "I don't want you to move Riley. I will be okay, it's not the first time. I just knew hearing your voice would help calm me down." Kim says.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Adam knew that sometimes helped. "It was the trial. I was watching myself testify again. Seeing my rapist watching me. Having his lawyer attack me on the stand. Watching him tell me I wanted it and I caused it. And now I'm just crying rape because I was embarrassed. It was horrible. Reliving it tonight just freaked me out." Kim could only partially explain the trial. It was horrific. "Kim! None of that was your fault! You didn't cause it, you didn't want that. I know that and so do you. I can only imagine how hard that was then, let alone now. Makes sense as to why you got wasted afterwards. No child should go through that. God baby I love you so much. You are so incredibly strong." Adam wished he was there to hold her but he was happy she at least reached out.
Adam stayed on the phone with her till her breathing evened out again. He knew she would be sore in the morning but he was thankful that she was asleep again. He whisper a good night and an i love you before hanging up. He feel back to sleep quickly with a plan for later in the morning. When he awoke again he got Riley moving and they went out for a run. On the way back he stopped by Kim's favorite bakery to grab her a treat or two and then hit the coffee shop she liked before heading to her place. Adam slowly walked up the stairs behind Riley who was determined to make it up the stairs by himself. They arrived at the door and knocked softly in case anyone was still asleep. Eric answered the door, once again surprised to see him.
"Hey man. Is Kim up yet? If not can you just give her these when she wakes again." Adam was trying to be cool but this guy seemed like a douche. "Um yeah she's awake. She's just resting in her bed with Allie. You can head on in." Eric stepped aside to let them in. "Thanks. Come on Ry let's go see Kimmie and Allie." They headed back to see them with Eric watching them go. Adam knocked on her door and entered to see a beautiful cuddle session. "Hey Darling. I got you a little treat to start your day off right. We aren't staying long just wanted to give you this, get a kiss and tell you I love you." Adam leaned down to get his kiss. "Thank you baby! That's so sweet of you! And I love you too!" Kim was teary eyed at the kindness he showed.
"Alright we are going to head out. Enjoy your treat and your massage later. Call me later and we can meet up for a bit. Love you darling!" Adam blew her a kiss as she mouthed an I love you back. They walked towards the door only to be stopped by Eric. "Look. I'm sorry about last night. I was just in shock seeing you here. But Kim looks happy and that's all I want for her. So I wish you luck." Eric reach out to shake his hand. "Look all I want is for them both to be happy. She had a nightmare last night hence the fact she's still in bed. Just give her a break today, she needs it." Adam patted his shoulder before walking out the door with his son in tow.
Adam and Riley headed back to their place to get ready for a day on the beach. He really wanted to explore the area but his son wouldn't remember much since he's so young so they made the most of the beach this trip. They would definitely be back again and hopefully soon. Hell he would rent Kim's place for a boys trip it was perfect for them. Kim and Allie exited her room to find Eric relaxing on the couch. He had made breakfast for himself,f and the kitchen was a mess. Kim sighed loudly as she cleaned up his mess. "I would have cleaned that." Eric sighed from the couch. "Yeah I know but it would be hours from now so I just did it. It's easier." Kim replied for eating her treats from Adam.
"Kim, are you sure about him? He looks like a man Whore. How do you know you can trust him?" Eric was trying to be protective but it came across as possessive. "Yes I'm sure about him. And I completely trust him. I told him everything. He already knew about the rape since he was with me when it happened. He doesn't push me, he checks in before touching me, he asks before touching my bare skin. I truly feel whole again and I don't care if you don't approve. It won't change anything for me. Oh and by the way, as of Monday he's working for Hank Voight." Kim huffed as she walked back into the kitchen.
"Kim. He's going to break your heart. Every man does. You know this. Just think about it before you do something stupid." Eric watched as Kim pushed him away as she walked to her room. She got ready and headed out for her massage. "Bye my sweetheart! Enjoy your day with daddy! I love you baby!" Kim kissed her forehead before heading out the door, ignoring Eric completely. He knew she would be pissed but he thought she would understand where he was coming from. She didn't. Now he was in the dog house with her and that was never fun for him.
Kim texted Adam right away to let him know about the fight with Eric. She wanted to be transparent with him. He responded right away by calling her. "Well that's what I expected last night. But he's completely wrong. I will never break your heart! I'm not a man whore and I don't want to be. I only want you. And I will do everything I can to prove this to you. But somehow I don't think you need that but I will do it anyway. Because I love you and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you." Adam heard Kim crying in the other end. He knew she was smiling with happy tears. "I love you too baby! You made me whole again. I will spend my whole life trying to repay you for that. It feels like a miracle. I have to go but I will call you later my love!" Kim smiled wide. "Love you too darling. Enjoy!" Adam hung up with Kim not knowing he had already paid for her massage with several upgrades. He wanted her pampered and relaxed before she left Aqua.
Kim spent the next hour and a half getting every inch of her body massages. She had never felt so relaxed in her entire life. It was truly something she needed to do more often. Meanwhile Eric was taking Allie on a Jeep trip to see the wild horses. She loved seeing the horses and always wanted to ride them but knew she wasn't allowed. She found it fascinating that they could fend for themselves in the wild because all the sand made it hard to grow things for them to eat. It was adorable, she also wanted to feed them but was told she couldn't do that. The pouty face was beyond cute. Eric would always take her there to look for shells and sea glass as well. It kept her busy while he took phone calls. But she enjoyed it. Kim had reminded him several times to put sunscreen on her and make sure she had shaded options to prevent sunburn.
Kim called Adam after her massage to thank him for what he did for her. "Hey baby! Thank you so much! That was so very kind of you! I wish I could thank you properly." Kim said as she smiled ear to ear as she heard Adam moan. He knew she didn't mean sex but he would take any kind of thank you and love it. "Well you are more than welcome to join us at the beach. It had felt almost toxic that morning and she didn't want to live like that. She needs to make peace with Eric again, they couldn't have a fallout over this.
As she got ready to leave she left a note for Eric and Allie letting him know where she was. She headed over to Adams street and parked close so it was a quick walk. She found them right away, she heard him talking to some women who was clearly hitting on him. He was telling her that he was happy and taken, he had no idea she was there. He proved his words without knowing she was there. It was a great moment. She walked closer to him hearing the women flirting more with him so she did the only reasonable thing. "Hey baby!" Before pulling him into a deep kiss that turned into a make out session. When they pulled away she was still there. "I believe we made it clear you are not wanted here. So back away from my boyfriend before I arrest you for harassment and maybe stalking. Bye bye!" Kim laughed as the women walked away stunned.
"Darling! That was hot! I love that possessive side of you. Just so you know I will protect you too." Adam kissed Kim again. "I'm not letting anything stand in the way of my second chance with you and at happiness. I love you baby!" Kim kissed him hard before they noticed Riley was waking from his nap. "Hey buddy! How was your nap?" Adam asked as he sat next to him. "Good daddy. I hungry!" Riley says as he rubs his eyes. Adam laughed softly as he grabs some lunch and a drink for his son. Kim watched in awe, he really was so good with kids.
They hung out under the umbrella eating some lunch and playing games. It was a great afternoon, they really enjoyed themselves. Kim was really missing her daughter though. "Tonight I just want to hold you all night but I know I can't. And I hate to say this but we leave tomorrow night. When do you come home to Chicago? I don't want to be without you too long." Adam pulled her closer for a hug. "Sunday we fly home. And Monday we start work again. I was thinking about that. I want to surprise Erin and Jay. So go early, talk to Voight, tell him about us. Suggest that he bring me and my partner up to meet the new addition to the team since we help out up there a lot. They when you are introduced and we see the shocked looks, I walk over to hug you and kiss you in front of our friends." Kim suggested knowing it would be hilarious. "Love it! Sounds like a fun idea and I will definitely let Voight know about us. It's the right thing to do. God I love you!" Adam kissed the side of her head.
"So Eric freaked this morning? He was so nice to me but then flips on you?" Adam was trying to understand what happened. "I think he's just trying to be protective since he knows my past. But this isn't some random person I'm involved with. This is my heart, the person who's held my heart for 13 years. I get he's afraid when you see the nightmares, the flashbacks, the panic attacks and the bad days you will bolt. Just like any other person who has tried to enter my world. I get people can't handle things like that but when you love someone you help them through things. I know we aren't together anymore but I do consider him one of my best friends. We've been through so much together." Kim sighed as she settled against Adam.
"We got this! We will work it out. I'm not leaving. I can't wait for our life together. We will work through the nightmares, flashback, all of it. I'm not walking away again. You held my heart too. So we talk about it, we work through it and we make plans for the future together. The most important thing is we communicate when we have issues or you are having an issue." Adam hugged her tight. "I agree. Together we can do anything! I'm proud of us for getting here. And a life together sounds amazing! All of four of us." They shared a kiss before playing with Riley again. They spent a few more hours playing at the beach before heading back to the place Adam was staying. The boys got showered and got ready for dinner. Kim headed home to wash up again and then got dressed. As she was coming out if her room she saw Allie and Eric had returned from their day together.
"We just came back to clean up before we head out to dinner. What are you doing?" Eric asked trying to break through to Kim. "I just wanted to get washed up after being at the beach with Adam and Riley. We are all headed to dinner together. They leave tomorrow afternoon so I'm enjoying time with them before we all head back to work. And you get plenty of Allie time tonight. I know you miss hanging out with her when you work. So you my dear have fun with dad and I will see you in a little bit." Kim kissed her daughter as she started to walk out. "Mommy! I miss Adam. Can he come say good night before bed time?" Allie asked with her eyes full of hope. "I bet he would love that!" Kim waved and headed towards Adams car. They headed to a small place that Kim knew of on the ocean that was very causal. Perfect when you have a small child.
As they ate dinner they relaxed sharing small talk about nothing important. It was fun to just be a normal couple with no issues surrounding them. They just enjoyed being a family, even if one part was missing. As they headed back towards Kim's place they had already discussed Adam coming in to say good night to Allie. He really wanted to be a part of her life, he truly hoped to be a step dad one day down the road. He loved how much she reminded him of Kim but with her own little sass. She had quite the personality and he loved it. Riley was fighting sleep as the walked up to the condo. Adam did his best not to move him to much so he could fall asleep and stay asleep. Adam placed him on the bed before kissing him goodnight and closing the door behind him. Allie was good at being quiet knowing not to wake him when she headed to bed.
But before that could happen she needed hugs and kisses from her parents. Eric has already read her her bedtime story so it wasn't long before she would be asleep too. After both her parents did the hugs, kisses and good nights she ran to Adam who lifted her in the arm really high before bringing her into a hug. "Goodnight Ms Allie cat. See you tomorrow." He placed her down after a peck on her forehead. She beamed and headed for bed. "Allie cat? You have a nickname for my kid? You know I'm her dad right?" Eric fumed. "Look I'm not trying to take your kid. I just want all of us to get along. It's best for her. You are her dad and always will be so get over it. It's just a nick name. We need to work together to raise her because I'm not going anywhere. I love Kim and I'm starting to love Allie too. How can I not when she's Kim's child? You dint know this but my parents are divorced and remarried. We have to do two birthdays, two Christmas, two thanksgivings, two everything because they can't get along. I was always passed back and fourth it sucked. I don't want that for her." Adam remained calm but was ready to blow.
"Look I don't want her getting attached to you for you to leave. No one can handle Kim's issues. I'm trying to save her some heartache." Eric barked out. "First Kim is sitting right here. So be respectful. Second just because you couldn't handle it and others didn't try doesn't mean I won't. Because she has held my heart for 13 years and I'm never letting her go again. This is our second chance and I'm not losing it. So go to therapy, work it out because I'm here to stay and we will be seeing a lot of each other." Adam left it at that and went outside. He needed air before he exploded on Eric. He was being petty and possessive. No wonder they didn't work out, he was a douche. He watched a pretty animated conversation happening inside before Kim joined him outside.
"It's a work in progress. But I love you. And I want to spend my life with you. So let's do that. Stay with me tonight?" Kim asked as she looked deep into his eyes. "Absolutely! My dream come true." Adam kissed her slowly under the moon light. When he pulled away Kim's eyes were twinkling like the stars. "Should head in or talk some more?" Adam asked. "We should probably have one last big conversation before we return to work." Kim sat down and Adam followed suit. "What's up?" Adam knew it was big by the look on her face. "My partner is a douche. We have been partners for two years, good cop, just always hits on me. I have never dated him, kissed him or slept with him. He's never met Allie. I'm pretty sure he will make some shitty comment to you about me when you meet so just the heads up." Kim wanted to be up front just in case.
"What's his name?" Adam asked since she never mentioned it. "Sean Roman. He moved to the 21st after he broke up with his last girlfriend/partner Jen. He has a thing for falling for his partners apparently. But I never saw him that way." Kim looked into his eyes as she spoke. Wanting him to see she was telling the truth. "Thank you for telling me. I do appreciate it. But if he tries anything I will end him." Adam winked before standing and heading to the bedroom. Adam wanted as much time together as possible before heading home to Chicago. He knew they would see each other often but work would be a distraction. When Kim entered her room she saw Adam already laying on her bed.
"So it's going to be like that huh?" Kim laughed as she walked further into her room. "Well I know we aren't doing that especially with him down the hall but I figured we could at least snuggle together. Maybe some skin to skin contact. I just know I'm going to miss you like crazy tomorrow night and Sunday till we see each other again. I know we will see each other Monday but it feels like forever." Adam sounded a bit crazy but he was so happy with Kim right now. Their bubble was perfect and they weren't ready to burst it but it was coming that's for sure. "I know what you mean. This has been an amazing week. I'm so beyond thrilled that we found each other again." Kim smiled before she pulled him into a long sensual kiss.
