Adam awoke felling like he was floating on a cloud. Like he was living in a dream. Opening his eyes to see his stunning fiancé staring at her engagement ring that was sparkling in the sunshine. "So this is real? I'm not dreaming?" He asked watching her eyes staring up in disbelief. "Well if we are both seeing it, it must be real." She rolled over placing her hand on his chest as she leaned in for a good morning kiss. "I'm glad it's real. I've dreamed of this moment more times than I can count. But this right here feels so much better than my dreams." His words causing tears to form in her eyes. "I've never been happier. Thank you for waiting for me." The tears started to fall but they were tears of happiness. He wiped her tears with his thumb.
"I would wait forever for you. You are all I dreamed of. Even if I never dreamed I would find you again. But I'm so glad I did." He leaned in caressing her face right before kissing her languidly. "I'm glad it happened too. I wish it happened sooner but I know it had to happen when we were ready for each other. I think the timing was perfect. I was ready to try again, with you and on,y you. You are the only person who ever made me feel safe." She watched the tears form in his eyes this time. "That's all I ever wanted for you. To be happy and safe. I'm happy you have both now. When should we face the masses? You know our phones must have gone nuts by now." He asked not sure if the bubble should be busted or not yet.
"I'm not ready to burst the bubble just yet. Just a little longer. I'm really enjoying this bubble right now. Making up for lost time I guess." She shrugged slightly. "I hear ya. I feel the same. I never want to miss a minute of time with you going forward. You and our kids. And any other kids we add to this family. You all will always be my first priority. I think of you all everyday before heading to a crime scene. Knowing you are all waiting for me at home. Amazing incentive to be more alert at work, work smarter and safer. You make me a better cop, a better father, a better man and soon a better husband." He leaned in closer kissing her once more.
"You've made me live again. Made me feel whole again. It's crazy I never realized how much of my heart was missing till I saw you again. That first kiss in the porch healed some broken pieces of my heart. The more time we spend together the stronger I feel. The more I feel like i can take on. Seems like we are made for each other. Like we were made to make each other better. Also seems like you are the key to leaving the past behind me. The past I couldn't forget, the past that haunted me. I can never thank you enough for all you did for me. I love you so very much." Tears streaming down both their faces now. But it was all true. "You never have to thank me. I would do anything for you and our children." He shifted their bodies so he was hovering over her.
His eyes looking from her eyes to her lips and back again. Kim pulled him down to kiss him slowly but passionately. "I love you darling!" He whispered as he kissed down her neck. "I love your heart." Adam was close behind her just grabbing some boxers before heading into the bathroom. It was small and tight but it worked for what they needed.
The bathroom started to steam up shortly after allowing the couple to get warm under the hot water. Kim started to wash her hair, her eyes closed, her head tilted backwards. He moved her hair to the side so he could start kissing down her neck and shoulder. He stepped back slightly holding her hips as he kissed his way down her spine. "Are you Okay with this?" He just needed to hear her say it. "Yes I trust you." She felt him lean her forward some and place her hands on the wall of the shower. As they finished up their showers Kim got out first and started to dry her hair right away knowing it took forever to dry. Adam was already dried off and dressed by the time she finished her hair. It's actually pretty warm considering it's only February." Adam asked as he drove. "Thought maybe we could go for a walk on the beach today. It really it beautiful out. Or maybe go for a drive on the beach where we can see the horses and then walk the beaches up there." Kim suggested something they both liked.
"Sounds like a great plan! I like driving on the beach and you like the horses and looking for sea glass. Done deal. We can grab some sandwiches and drinks to take with us so we can stay there longer." He saw her smiling at his idea. "Perfect!" She smiled watching the scenery go by as they drove. As they pulled up they both noticed their phones were ringing non stop. "Guess the bubble is about to burst." Kim sighed answering the phone. "Hello?" She answered sounding fairly flat. "Are you kidding me! Hello? That's all you have to say since dodging our calls! You can't tell us you are engaged and then not answer the phone." Erin yelled causing both Kim and Adam to laugh. "But it seems like we can cause we did. But judging by your tone you must be happy about it?" Kim teased knowing their friends would be happy for them. "Are you kidding? We are all over the moon happy for you both! Couldn't be happier if we tried!" Erin continued to yell.
The couple was dying from laughter as they pulled up outside the restaurant. "So I'm assuming you are at work so put it on speaker phone and you all can yell at us for dodging calls." Adam rolled his eyes but understood where they were coming from. "Alright you guys are on speaker." Erin states right before the entire unit plus Platt and Tay yelled congratulations. "Thank you!" The couple replied happy their friends were excited for them. "Good job pulling it off Adam! I'm proud of you both!" Voight spoke causing Kim to gasp. "You knew? Who else knew?" Kim was shocked. "Well I knew because I kept the kids busy at the mall buying Christmas presents for you two from the kids. It was really so the kids wouldn't spill the secret!" Kevin was laughing because he knew Kim was dumbfounded and probably a little pissed off. "Wow! Man I thought your loyalty liar with me but I see how it is." Kim could only laugh about the situation.
"Anything else I need to know!" She asked sternly seeing Adam cracking up over her 'I'm trying to be angry face'. "Nope! I promise. No more crazy surprises." He kept laughing so did the team picturing her face. "Alright we will let you guys go but we just want to say congrats! We love you both! And see you when you get back!" They all shared goodbyes as the couple headed inside. Now Kim was way past hangry but beyond happy that their friends were thrilled for them. "So you have been planning this for awhile now I see." She smirked at him knowing he was caught. "Oh absolutely. I had to get Platt and Voight on board before I could do anything else. But yes I had been planning for a bit. It was so worth it. Seeing you smile and happy. Knowing I was able to surprise you. Knowing that you said yes. It was all worth it." He explained. Holding her hands the entire time. His thumb rubbing against the ring.
"Oh totally worth it. I'm glad you picked here. I think this was the perfect place. So much history here for us. For me in my healing process. I wish I could have come here right after it happened. Maybe things would have been different. We can't change the past that's for sure but we can learn from it. And I have learned that no matter what you are my rock. I am truly sorry that I didn't let you in. I know I've said it before but I will always be sorry for that. You didn't deserve that pain I caused. But I promise you I will never break your heart ever again. My other half, my missing piece, my soulmate, my everything." She knew he knew how sorry she was and he didn't blame her. They were kids and she was hurt in the worst possible way by someone she should have been able to trust. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. But they were here now and together for the long haul. Life was not coming between them again.
"I don't blame you. I never did. I just thankful we are here together again. We deserve this. Now let's forget the past and enjoy the present. I think we can both agree living in the moment is the right thing to do right now. Maybe we can recreate that last night on the beach before I left. You know that thing that almost happened if we hadn't stopped it?" He winked hoping she remembered that moment. "That was a good moment. But it would have been bad. We were too young and had no clue what we were doing. It could have ruined what we had. Either way I'm glad we waited till we were older. God if we had and had gotten pregnant at 13 it would have been life ending Adam." He smiled knowingly. "You are probably right. And yeah a kid at 13 would have been horrible. And the first time was horrible too. But I think we should give it a second go." He winked again.
"Are you thinking we should try the club things again too? Because that was a close call too." Kim smirked at him. "Ha! That was a great night too! We should do that! And I don't just mean the almost having sex thing. I mean going to a club and actually having sex there. It would be fun and no one would have to know." He smirked knowing it would be fun but she would never go for it. "I'm down for a club night. Doubt the other will happen though. We are cops! That could cost us our jobs Adam!" Kim looked at him like he was crazy. "Oh please! A very small adjustment in my pants and you on my lap in a dress. No one would know. It would just look like we are making out. Just think about it." He looked adorable begging her about it. "I will think about it but absolutely no promises!" Kim pointed her finger at him sternly. Holding his hands up in defense he backed off with a chuckle knowing she was all bark and no bite.
They finished breakfast and headed out starting the drive to the 4 wheel drive beaches. It was a bit of a drive but it didn't stop them from talking about all the little things. They never had much alone time so this was that time to talk and learn all the little things about the other person. Both telling stories that left the other in stitches. "So let me get this straight you and Erin used to go around town pretending to be lesbians when men hit on you two? That's hilarious." Adam was cackling at the thought. "Of course we did and still do sometimes. It's amazing how shitty men can be. The best part is Jay knows all about this so he would never step in. He would just watch and laugh hysterically when they walked away. It was epic and still is." Kim laughed along thinking about it. "Did anyone ever dare you to prove it?" He laughed but was seriously interested. "Only once. And I think Jay and Erin has a pretty good night after that. Isn't that like every mans fantasy? Watching two girls make out?" She asked watching him swallow hard. "Um I think we need to find a place to pull over. Because I'm definitely hot and bothered thinking about it." Kim laughed at him hard but realized he wasn't kidding.
Thank god it was the off season and hardly anyone was around. They found an easy place to pull over and have a quickie before continuing the trip. "See no one would have known." He laughed once more when she smacked his chest. "Lunch and drinks for later. That's the mission now. We are almost to the beach." Kim had to change the topic before something like that happened again. It was so outside her nature but it had been fun. After stopping at a small deli for sandwiches and drinks and a small styrofoam cooler to keep it cold they headed to the 4 wheel drive area to hang out for the day. It was easy and fun. They drove around for about an hour before they set up a mini camp with just two chairs facing the ocean. Kim insisted on walking to find sea glass while Adam just relaxed. He took photos occasionally of her or the ocean to show the kids when they got home.
Several hours had past and Kim was tired of looking at the ground and decided to sit with Adam watching the water quietly. "This day has been amazing. Thank you for all of this." Her eyes sparkling from the sun. "You're welcome. And your right this day has been amazing. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. My cheeks actually hurt from laughing." He smiled grabbing her hand to hold as they went back to watching the waves. The couple ate lunch pretty much in silence but he could tell something was on her mind. "Whatcha thinking about?" He asked seeing her biting the inside of her cheek. "Nothing bad. Just think we should start thinking about getting a larger house. We agreed that after Ry turns 3 we would consider having another one. But we have no room for another one. And honestly I don't want to be heavily pregnant and trying to move houses. So I thought we should start thinking about it. We have like 4 months before he's 3. So we have plenty of time. Just wanted to see where your head is at." She looked over nervously.
"I think that's a great idea. It gives us time to figure out what we want and to really look for something we love and that really works for us. So tomorrow we start looking online and go from there? Deal?" He offered a hank shake to seal the deal but Kim just laughed and kissed him. "Deal!" She returned to her seat and gazed out at the water again. Every time she was here it felt like the wounds of her soul were healed. Those old and new healed over a little more each time. She felt more free than she had in years, maybe ever. And it was all thanks to this beautiful man sitting next to her. She loved him with her whole soul. And she couldn't wait to see what their future and future kids looked like. It was exciting but terrifying at the same time.
As it got darker the couple packed up and headed back to the condo. Adam wanted off the beach before it was too dark to see any animals coming near the Jeep. Completely made sense to Kim so they headed home. When they arrived they called the kids to see how they were doing but to also let the kids know that mommy and daddy were getting married. Both kids seemed excited to not only talk to their parents but also know they would be a forever family now. It was adorable seeing the kids chattering away about their days and showing off the art work they had made at school. After getting off the phone the couple cooked dinner together. It was fun and not something they did often due to their work schedules.
After dinner the couple curled up on the couch watching some random show but just enjoying each other. "We really need to make this a priority going forward. Just down time, the two of us together. We need it for sure." She looked back to see his eyes closed but he clearly heard her. "I agree darling. Let's go to bed. I'm beat and I need your named skin against mine." He didn't wait for a reply before scooping her up and carrying her to their bedroom. "To sleep! No funny business!" Kim told him sternly but he just laughed. He stripped down and jumped into bed pulling close to him. "Good night darling!" He whispered. "Night baby!" She kissed his chest and he was out like a light. Snoring softly next to her. She feel asleep excited to start the house hunt and to start planning the wedding of their dreams.
