Chumley's Final Exam and Shenadigans
Early in the morning at the Slifer Red Dorm. Red Hat was in Jaden's room, sitting next to him at his desk. Both were on their PDA, using what was some kind of simulation duel. It appeared Red Hat was the one with the advantage.
"Man, Polymerization just won't show up." Jaden commented. "I'll set a monster facedown!"
Red Hat smiled slightly. "Thanks, now I tribute Treeborn Frog to tribute summon Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, destroy your monster and attack for game!"
Jaden figited about his PDA, trying to do something, only to slumb forward and sigh in disappointment. "I lost..."
"Hey, I bricked hard on this simulation duel, Jaden." Red Hat pointed out. "I'll have to make adjustments to the deck."
"Red Hat, the Promotion Exam simulation is the toughest huh?" Jaden asked.
"Maybe you should make your deck more consistent and avoid using circumstancial cards, Jaden." Red Hat suggested.
Jaden then turned to look at Chumley, who was still in his bed. "Is Chumley going to be alright if we don't wake him up?" Jaden asked.
"Chumley was up until daybreak today, too, putting a lot of effort into getting his deck ready." Syrus replied, who was in his bunk bed working on his deck.
"Is that right? Has to be all the pressure. With having to repeat a school year once and all..." Jaden said.
"Guess Chumley wants to pass too. Hey, I hope he does well." Red Hat added.
Syrus then looked at both of them. "Don't talk like that guys." Jaden looked at him confused. Red Hat scoffed at Syrus. "Chumley has already failed his exams twice, if he doesn't pass them this year. He'll be kicked out of here for good guys."
Jaden's eyes widened, he looked at Chumley, understanding what kind of pressure he must be under. He then looked at Syrus and said with a low voice. "Well, I'm sure he will be fine this time." Syrus nodded, agreeing with him.
"After everything we've done, I think he'll do just fine too." Red Hat added.
Despite their attempts to be quiet. Chumley who was awake heard what they said. 'It's true... This year's is my last chance...'
Later during that same day. Jaden and his friends was sitting in the classroom, all of them had water colors in front of them, spending time drawing their own, original Duel Monsters card designs. While some of the students, like Syrus, drew some of their favorite monsters instead.
Syrus put his brush down and held up his sketch book and showed it to Jaden. "Hey Jaden, check it out. What do you think? Is it good."
"Syrus, you're missing the point here." Jaden said, still working on his painting. "Your cards have to be strong and cool!" Jaden continued until he put down his brush. "Aw yeah! Well?" Jaden said, looking at Syrus.
Syrus looked down at his sketch book, and got an awkward look on his face. "Um ... it's a bit hard to tell..."
"What did you draw, Red Hat?" Jaden asked as he turned around to face him.
"Nothing special really." Red Hat down his brush and showed them his art. Needless to say, they could tell Red Hat was not good at art. "Well, how does it look."
"Um... she looks cute I guess..." Syrus said awkwardly.
Red Hat scoffed. "I knew you would say that. My drawing and painting skills are atrocious."
"Hey, at least you tried." Jaden replied. "Well, what'd you paint, Chumley?"
Chumley looked at them. "Huh? Well..." Jaden and Syrus got up from their seats and checked it out. Red Hat got up and took a look from bellow. The former gasped in amazement, the drawing was so detailed that one could almost believe it was a photo instead of a drawing. Red Hat lightly chuckled at their reaction, although he was also amazed by the art.
The drawing was of a giant rock with grassland at the bottom and beautiful blue sky above the rock. "Whoa, that's amazing, Chumley!" Syrus said with a smirk.
"That's a pretty nice pickling stone!" Jaden said.
Syrus and Chumely looked at Jaden like he had grown a second head. "What are you talking about? It's Ayers Rock in Australia!" Syrus said.
"Ayers Rock?" Jaden questioned looking clueless.
Red Hat lightly chuckled. 'To be fair, I don't know what is was either. Not like I'm admiting it to you three.' Red Hat thought.
Chumley looked down at the drawing with a smile, before turning to look at them. "They call it the center of the world, and it's sacred grounds of the Aborigines."
A lot of students around him looked at the drawing. Impressed with what they saw. "That's some nice work." A Ra Yellow said with a smile.
"It's stunning!" A Slifer Red said.
Chumley nodded. "And to me, it's a pretty special place, too."
All of them got quiet and looked up as they heard someone speak. They looked up and saw Crowler's face on the big screen monitor in front of the classroom. "Attention! Would Chumley Huffington, please report to Chancellor Sheppard's office immediately?"
Chumley looked nervous and stood up. "Alright." He muttered as he slowly walked out of the classroom.
Syrus looked at Jaden worried. "I wonder if it's about the promotions?"
Jaden looked at Syrus, just as confused. "I don't know Syrus."
'I'd say we should go and check it out, but I can't leave class after just being released from detention.' Red Hat thought as he sat back down on his seat... That is... 'Oh what the heck... I'll join them. After all, Professor Satyr doesn't seem to mind, so long as we get our work done.' He thought as he followed Jaden and Syrus out the classroom.
Chumely stood in front of Sheppard's desk. Sheppard sat there with Crowler standing next to Chumley.
Chumley looked at Sheppard nervously. "Um... Did you want to talk to me about the promotions?"
Sheppard looked at shocked, before he laughed a little. "Chumley, I called you here to talk about your future."
"I see." Chumley simply said.
Shappard stood up and held out something to him. "Here."
Chumley took it and saw that it was a card. He looked at it and his eyes widened. "This card!"
Sheppard smiled at him. "The card that you designed was the winner in the contest that was sponsored by the Industrial Illusions company."
Chumley looked at him confused. "Wha?! Really?"
Before Chumley could respond, a voice could be heard. "That's right, Chumley-boy!"
Chumley turned arouns and looked at the video monitor and saw the face of the creator of Duel Monsters, Maximillion Pegasus on it. He smiled at Chumley. "Good imagination! Your work is magnificent! So good! That is why I have decided to adopt it as an offical Duel Monsters card!"
Chumley looked at Pegasus with a nervous smile while holding the cards. Pegasus continued to smile at him. "And, should Duel Academy recommend you... I would like to offically welcome you as a Duel Card Designer for my company!" The video call then ended.
Sheppard looked at Chumley with a smile. "I recognize your talent, and I will recommend you to the Industrial Illusions company."
Chumley looked at Sheppard in shock over what he had just heard. "Yes, thank you very much!" He couldn't believe it, tht had been his dream for a long time, and it seemed like it was about to come true.
Crowler however, didn't look all that excited. He looked at Sheppard. "Chancellor Sheppard, please wait a moment."
Sheppard gave Crowler a hard look. "What is it, Crowler?"
Crowler looked at Chumley. "Chumley is repeating a grade, isn't he? I cannot recommend a Dropout Boy, can I?"
Sheppard looked at Crowler. ""W-Well, I indeed see your point here, Crowler..."
Crowler crossed his arms and closed his eys and turned away his head while scoffing. "I suppose I could approve of him if he were to defeat me in tomorrow's practical exam."
Chumley looked troubled. "Practical exam?"
Crowler then looked at him. "However, depending on the outcome, you may also be expelled from the Academy at once!"
Shappard smiled as he looked at Chumley. "Chumley, this may seem grim, but please try your best at your next practical exam."
Crowler looked at chumely with a smirk. "And I have no intention at all of going easy on you!"
Chumley looked nervous, he had been so close to achieving his dream. Now it looked like he could lose it forever. Chumley soon left Sheppard's office.
Jaden, Syrus, and Red Hat were standing outside of Sheppard's office, waiting for Chumley to come out and see if everything was okay. They soon heard the doors open and saw Chumley come out.
"Alright, Chumley!" Jaden then noticed something in Chumley's hand. He lifted his hand and saw a card. He looked at them. "To think that your painting would turn into a card!"
Syrus smiled. "That's amazing! You've longed for the Industrial Illusions company, right?"
Red Hat also smiled. "That's awesome to hear. You may even design the next broken cards. Haha!" Syrus and Jaden just looked at him like he grew a second head. Red Hat sweat droped at this. 'You guys are no fun.' He thought sheeplessly.
Chumley looked troubled. "Yeah, but..."
Jaden looked at Chumley smiling. "Do your best on tomorrows exam! If there's anything we can do, we'll do whatever we can!"
"Yeah, that's right! We will!" Red Hat said.
Chumley nodded weakly. "Sure."
Later that Night
Jaden was waking up, he sat up and stood up. Then he noticed that Chumley's bed was empty. He looked around and saw that Chumley wasn't in their room. He had a feeling he might know where he was. Before he went out of the dorm to search, he took a stop by Red Hat's room. Surprisingly, Red Hat's door was unlocked and Jaden entered Red Hat's room. Jaden gently shook Red Hat.
'Does he always sleep like this?' He though as he noticed Red Hat was still dressed in his uniform and wore his Red Hat. "Red Hat, wake up."
Red Hat soon stirred before waking up. He rubbed his eyes and saw Jaden entered his room. "Jaden? What brings you here so late at night?" Red Hat asked as he began yawning again.
"Red Hat, Chumely is not in our room. I have a feeling I know where he is, but I want you to come with me." Jaden requested.
Red Hat blinked for a few moments to process this. "I see... I'll come with Jaden. Let's just make this quick."
"Yeah, let's go." Jaden and Red Hat left the room. Red Hat shut his door, before following Jaden down the steps.
They looked towards the cliff and Chumley was indeed sitting there. They walked over to him. "Hey Chumley, what are you doing out here?" Jaden asked.
Chumley looked at him as Jaden and Red Hat came up to him and sat down. "Uh, oh and you brought Red Hat with you?"
"Shouldn't you hurry and get some sleep?" Jaden asked. "You got an important exam tomorrow."
"Yeah, besides you get a lot more cranky then I do when you don't get a enough sleep." Red Hat remined.
"Yeah... Still there's no way I can beat Dr. Crowler." Chumley said as he looked out over the ocean.
Jaden narrowed his eyes. "What are you talking about? You won't know unless you try, right?"
"I knew it was pointless... It'll be this time that I go back to my hometown and help out my dad..." Chumley said as he stood up.
Red Hat sat there in silence as he heard everything. 'Jaden told me a lot about what Chumley has been through a while back, before I came to Duel Academy. Chumley... I have no idea what to say.'
"Are you fine with that?" Jaden asked. "Can you really give up on dueling? You really like it, don't you?"
"I do like it." Chumley simply replied.
"So winning or losing shouldn't matter, then!" Jaden said.
"Remember what we said?" Red Hat said as he and Jaden got up. "You can count on us to help you out."
Jaden placed his hand on Chumley's shoulder. "Use the cards that you made to show us some dueling that only you can do! And enjoy it with all your heart."
"I'll even help you construct your deck to add some better spells and traps to help you out. While maintaing your style." Red Hat added.
Chumley smiled at them. "Thanks, I almost forgot about something important there."
"Now, let's head back in so we can work on your deck and strategies for your match." Red Hat stated. Chumley said whilethey headed back in.
The Next Day
Chumley and Crowler stood on the stage in the Obelisk Blue duel arena. Jaden and Red Hat sat in the spectator seats, along with Alexis, Chazz, Syrus and Bastion.
Jaden smiled and yelled. "Captivate us, Chumley!"
"Show him what you can do!" Red Hat added.
Syrus looked at them troubled. "Hey you two, aren't you worried about Chumley?"
Jaden smiled at Syrus. "No way Syrus! I know he'll show us an interesting duel!"
"Besides, Jaden and I helped him out planning strategies for this match. He'll be ready."Red Hat added.
"Look at you, being so optimistic about a duel. I never see you like that." Alexis noted.
"Must be Jaden's influence on him." Bastion said.
Chazz turned his head to the side a little. "Come on, there'd be no point in these Promotion Exams unless you win, don't you think?"
Crowler looked at Chumley. "Chumley, we will now commence your promotion exam duel, won't we?"
Chumley looked at Crowler nervously. "Y-Yes, we will."
Crowler looked a little irritated as he activated his duel vest. "I suppose I will confer the first move to you, Chumley."
Chumley narrowed his eyes and got a determined lok on his face. "It's an honor, Dr. Crowler!" Chumley said as he activated his duel disk.

Crowler: 8000 LP
"It's my turn, I draw!" Chumley draws.
Hand 6
"I'll set a monster and end my turn." Chumley ends his turn.
Hand 5
"Is that all? It's my turn, I draw." Crowler draws.
Hand 6
"I'll start this off nice and easy. I'll summon this, Red Gadget in atack mode! (Atk: 1300 Def: 1500)" A small red mechanical robot with a gear on it's back appears. "It's effect allows me to add Yellow Gadget from my deck to my hand." Crowler adds said card to his hand. "Battle, Red Gadget attack his facedown monster." Red Gadget charges in and slams at the facedown monster. Revealing to be Bubonic Vermin (Atk: 900 Def: 600)
"Bubonic Vermin effect. When he's flipped, I'm allowed to summon another copy of him from my deck in face down defense position." Chumley explained as he set another Bubonic Vermin from his deck, then shuffling his deck.
"Go ahead and summon as many of them as you can it won't make a difference. I'll set a card facedown and end my turn." Crowler ends his turn.

"No pressure. It's my turn, I draw!" Chumley draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Des Kangaroo in attack mode! (Atk: 1500 Def: 1700)" Des Kangaroo appeared on the field. "Battle, Des Kangaroo attack his Red Gadget!" Des Kangaroo hopped forward and threw rough punch at the red machine, destroying it.
Crowler: 8000 - 7800 LP
"I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." Chumley ends his turn.
Hand 4
"Very well. My turn, I draw!" Crowler draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Yellow Gadget in attack mode! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1200)" A similar gadget appears on the field. This time, with a yellow color and had two gears. "Now it's effect. It' allows me to add Green Gadget to my hand." Said card, Crowler adds to his hand.
"But why would Crowler summon a monster that's weaker then Chumley's monster?" Syrus question.
"You aren't very good at observing aren't you?" Red Hat replied as he closed his eyes.
"I active the continuous trap, Ultimate Offering!" Crowler announces as his card was revealed.
"Not good." Jaden commented.
"This won't end well since Crowler has Gadgets." Red Hat added as he looked at the field.
"Now by paying 500 LP I can normal summon one more monster. I tribute Yellow Gadget to summon Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Chimera! (Atk: 2300 Def: 1300)" A four legged abomination of a machine with three heads appears on the field.
Crowler: 7800 - 7300 LP
"Battle, Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Chimera attack his Des Kangaroo!" The machine lifts it's heads and all three fired a blast ofenergy at the Kangaroo.
Chumley: 8000 - 7200 LP
"Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Chimera's effect. His effect depends on the Gadget I tributed. Since I tributed Yellow Gadget, when it destroys a monster in battle. You take 700 burn damage!" One of the heads fired another blast of energy at Chumley directly.
Chumley: 7200 - 6500 LP
"You're going to get it. I activate my trap card Michizure! When my monster is sent from the field to my graveyard. I can destroy one monster on your field! So that Chimera get's destroyed!" Two hands appear from underneath the chimera. As it took hold of the machine, it was dragged down to the ground before disappearing. Crowler was not even bothered by this.
"Don't think this means you have the advantage. I end my turn here." Crowler ends his turn.

"It's my turn, I draw!" Chumley draws.

"I set one monster facedown. Then I'm going to place one card facedown. That ends my turn." Chumley ends his turn.

"It's my turn, I draw!" Crowler draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Green Gadget in attack mode. (Atk: 1400 Def: 600)" A version of the small machine appears. This one had a gear as it's main body. "It's effect allows me to add Red Gadget from my deck to my hand." Crowler adds said card to his hand. "Now I pay 500 LP to summon Red Gadget to the field. (Atk: 1300 Def: 1500)" Another Red Gadget appears on the field.
Crowler: 7300 - 6800 LP
"Red Gadget allows me to add Yellow Gadget from my deck to my hand." Crowler adds his card. "Now I pay 500 LP once again. I triute Green Gadget and Red Gadget to summon my Ancient Gear Golem! (Atk: 3000 Def: 3000)" His giant, mechanical ace monster rose on the field.
Crowler: 6800 - 6300 LP
"Hey wait, is he really not holding back?" Chazz asked.
"Looks like he isn't." Bastion added.
'Not like you'll be a match for me.' Red Hat thought.
"Battle, Ancient Gear Golem attack his facedown monster in the right. Mechanized Melee!" Gear Golem pulled its arm and threw a transparent fist at the facedown monster and was revealed to be another Bobonic Vermin. (Atk: 900 Def: 600) "Ancient Gear Golems effect, you can not activate spell or traps until the end of the damage step. If it attacks a defense position monster, it inflicts piercing damage!" Gear Golem destroys the monster.
Chumley: 6500 - 4100 LP
"Since another Bobonic Vermin was flipped. I get to summon another one from my deck." Chumely said as he put another copy of it on the field facedown.
"I set one card facedown and end my turn." Crowler ends his turn.
Hand 4
"This will be a challange. Since Crowler has Ultimate Offering, he'll keep spaming Gadgets for tribute fodder." Red Hat noted.
"So Crowler is too tough for Chumley?" Syrus questioned worridly.
"Nah, Chumley hasn't lost yet. He'll be okay." Jaden replied with a smile.
"It's my turn, I draw!" Chumley draws.
Hand 4
Chumley looked at the card he drew. 'This is the card Red Hat gave me. It's time I use it.' Chumley thought. "Alright, I play the spell card Graceful Charity! With this, I can draw 3 cards then I must discard 2." Chumley draws his cards and observes his options. 'From what they told me. I can dump this card then revive it.' Chumley thought as he continued his plays. He discarded Big Koala and Gyaku-Gire Panda. "Now I play the spell card Monster Reborn! With this card I can bring back a monster from any graveyard. I special summon this Big Koala! (Atk: 2700 Def: 2000)" A huge blue koala appeared on the field.
"Wait... when did Chumley get those cards?" Syrus asked.
"I had some spare cards I don't use." Red Hat replied with a smug face.
Chazz scoffed at that. "No wonder. He wouldn't know a good card without your help."
"Says the guy that plays Ojamas." Red Hat countered with a smile.
"Why you little..." Chazz muttered.
"Now I flip summon this my Des Koala! (Atk: 1100 Def: 1800)" A smaller brown Koala appears on the field. "Now his effect you take 400 burn damage for every card in your hand! That's four cards!" Des Koala charged in close and struck Crowler four times.
Crowler 6300 - 4700 LP
"Now I play the spell card Wild Nature's Release! With this my Big Koala gains attack equal to it's defense! (Atk: 2700 - 4700 Def: 2000) Last but not least, I summon Des Kangaroo! (Atk: 1500 Def: 1700)" Another Des Kangaroo appeared on the field. "Battle, now Big Koala attack that Ancient Gear Golem! Take down from down under!" Big Koala charged forward and jumped tackled Ancient Gear Golem and he exploded.
Crowler: 4700 - 3000 LP
While Crowler wasn't too happy about losing his ace monster, he looked at Chumley with a smile. 'Nothing I can't come back from.' He thought.
Chumley now had a smirk on his face. "Des Kangaroo attack him directly!" As the Kangroo began to ready it's attack...
"Did you forget about Ultimate Offering? I pay 500 LP to normal summon Yellow Gadget! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1200) It's effect allows me to add my last Green Gadget to my hand." Crowler adds his card as another Yellow Gadget appears o the field.
Crowler: 3000 - 2500 LP
"I'll still attack! Go Des Kangaroo attack his Yellow Gadget!" The kangaroo hopped forward and punched the gadget with a lot of force, destroying the gadget.
Crowler: 2500- 2200 LP
"Des Koala attack him directly!" As Des Koala began to attack...
"Very Naive, I'll use Ultimate Offering to summon another Green Gadget! (Atk: 1400 Def: 800)" Crowler announced as another Green Gadget appears on the field. "Now it's effect allows me to add my final Red Gadget to my hand." Crowler adds his cards.
Crowler 2200 - 1700 LP
"I'll stop Des Koala's attack. Next I'll activate my trap card, Beast Soul Swap! With this card, I return one beast type monster o my field then I can special summon a beast type monster from my hand that has the same level. I'm gonna play the same monster. Return to the field, Big Koala! (Atk: 2700 Def: 2000)" Big Koala return to the field then returned to the field.
Syrus looked totally confused. "Um I'm lost here, he just powered up his Big Koala, so why... why he'd do it?"
Chazz chuckled. "And I thought Chumley was dumb."
Red Hat dead panned at Syrus' question. "I'll say it again, how did you pass grade school? You are that much of a total moron."
Syrus glared at Chazz, but moved away from Red Hat. Bastion began to explain. "Wild Nature's Release draw brack will destroy that Big Koala during the end phase."
"By returning that monster to his hand. Chumley just reset the risk, as now Wild Nature's Release effect was no longer in effect. Also by returning to the hand, he was able to summon it again as it met the requirements of Beast Soul Swap." Alexis added.
Jade smiled at Syrus. "Didn't study enough, huh, Syrus?"
Syrus looked at Jaden with a frustrated look. "You shouldn't be talking, Jay!"
Red Hat got annoyed by Syrus' statement. "You don't even know the bare basics of monsters. You shouldn't be talking either and you're the one wasting his time in class. Shut up Syrus." Red Hat spoke up with and angry look.
Jaden sweat dropped at Red Hat's reaction, but thought nothing of it. "On top of that, since he special summoned during the battle phase means, he still has an attack left. Way to go Chumley."
"Now Big Koala attack his Green Gadget!" Big Koala rushed towards the Gadget monster before jumping up in the air and then falling down and slamming into the mechanical machine.
Crowler: 1700 - 400 LP
Crowler covered his face as his Gadget was destroyed. 'It's all for naught.' He thought. 'Chumley, it seems that you were not just spending this year doing nothing.' Crowler thought as he looked at Chumley. "I'll activate my trap card, Damage Condensor! By discarding one card, I can special summon a monster from my deck equal to or less then the damage I took. I'll special summon Yellow Gadget from my deck! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1200)" Another Yellow Gadget appears on the field.
"I'll end my turn here." Chumley ends his turn.
Hand 1
"It's my turn, I draw!" Crowler draws.
Hand 4
"I play the spell Pot of Greeed. So I draw 2 cards." Crowler draws his cards. "Next I'll play the spell Graceful Charity! I'll draw 3 cards then I discard 2." Crowler draws his cards and sicards Red Gadget and Ancient Gear Castle. "I'll play the spell card Monster Reborn to special summon my Red Gadget I just discarded in attack mode! (Atk: 1300 Def: 1500)" Another Red Gadget appears on the field. "I tribute my two gadgets to summon a new Ancient Gear monster!" Both the gadgets begin to glow as the rose up.
"So that's why he was using Gadgets." Red Hat noted.
"What makes you say that?" Jaden asked.
"There's three monsters that use Gadget to gain effects. One of them is a trap monster which just makes it a 3K beater. Two of them are Ancient Gear monsters. One of them, Crowler has already played." Red Hat explained. 'And it's a terrible tribute monster.' He thought with distain, but hid it well.
"Even so.." Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and saw Chancellor Sheppard sitting there, next to Red Hat.
"Chancellor Sheppard?" Alexis asked shocked since she hadn't noticed when he showed.
Jaden who also hadn't notice him showing up there looked at him. "When did you..."
"There's two monsters that uses Gadgets. Both monsters require tributes. One of them is Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Chimera and another one that's called Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon. The latter was just released and hard to come by." Sheppard explained.
"By tributing my two Gadget monsters. I can summon this card. Appear Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon! (Atk: 3000 Def: 2000)" With a mighty roar, the mechanical, serpentine-dragon with wings and a long tail appeared in the air.
Jaden smile dat the sight of the mechancal dragon. "Cool! That's awesome, Dr. Crowler!"
Syrus stared at him. "Jaden, who's side are you on?"
"Can't we admire actual good cards, even if they are played by our enemy?" Red Hat replied with venom in his voice at Syrus. 'Although, calling that card good is questionable. Can't win them all.' He thought.
"Chumley, I will admit that you have grown. However, you must defeat me in this duel first. Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon attack that Big Koala!" The mechanical dragon reared back its head and then unleased a beam of green energy that destroyed the Big Koala.

"Did I mention Gadjiltron Dragon effect? He has three effect, depending on what Gadgets I used to tribute summon him. Since I tributed Yellow Gadegt and Red Gadget he has two effects. First he does 400 burn damage when he does battle damage. Then if he destroys a monster by battle, you take 600 burn damage. So that's a total of 1000 burn damage! Oh and his effect if he was summoned by tributing Green Gadget, his effect is that he does Piercing normal effect, he disables spells and traps until the end of the damage step." Crowler explained as the dragon fired beam after beam of energy at Chumley.

'Like I said, can't win them all. What a bunch of contrive effects for tributing specific stuff. It should have those effects by default. It's not that amazing requiring to tribute Gadgets to gain the effects.' Red Hat sweat dropped after hearing Crowler's explaination.
Crowler had a smirk on his face. "Next I'll play this spell Ancient Gear Drill! Impressive isn't it? By discarding one card, I can take any spell card from my deck, and place it facedown." Crowler took a card from his deck and placed it face down on the field. "Now I set one more card facedown and end my turn!" Crowler ends his turn.
Hand 0
Syrus looked at Chumley worridly. "Aw man! Chumley isn't looking too good!"
"I have a feeling I know what that facedown is." Alexis noted.
"The situation is overwhelmingly against him." Bastion said with a worried look.
Chazz sighed. "Give it up already, he's done for."
Jaden smiled. "Not yet. Chumely, give it your al!" Jaden began cheering.
"Give it your all." Sheppard repeated.
Soon everyone began cheering Chumley on. Red Hat even got up ad started cheering for Chumley. 'Never thought I'd do this. Still, draw Heavy Storm Chumley. I do not trust that backrow.' Red Hat thought.
Chumley looked at them all, now finally understanding something. He then started remembering all the other duels everyone else had over the past few months. All the fun times, and not so fun times when everyone was dueling. Even duels with the Red Hat, Chumley remembered, even if he was a bit harsh at first.
"There's something that you all taught me this year... It was to have fun, no matter what kind of duel you're in!" Chumley said. Everyone was shocked at what Chumley just said. Red Hat merely raised an eye brow, but smiled.
Chumley lifted his arm up in the air with a huge smile on his face. "I'm glad I didn't give up when I failed last year, even if it was to have a fun duel like this!"
Jaden nodded while his smile grew. "Yeah, Chumley!"
Alexis stood up. "Look at him, he looks so happy."
Syrus also stood up. "Yeah you're right."
Bastion stood up. "He's a brave one."
Chazz also stood up. "Yeah, big deal."
Red Hat stayed in his seat, but smiled. 'Chumley, you come a long way.' He thought.
Chumley gave them all a warm smile. "You won't reach your limits on your own!" He looked back at Crowler.
Crowler chuckled. "Come now, Chumley. Show me what you've learn..."
"It's my turn, I draw!" Chumley draws.
Hand 2
"First I play my Pot of Greed! So I get to draw two cards." Chumley draws his cards. He paused when he took a look at one of his cards. His eyes widened when he saw what he drew. 'This card! A year ago, during that summer vacation after I failed...' He thought.
Flashback
Somewhere in the empty area of the desert lied an large mass of rock located in the middle of nowhere. Chumley was seen walking to a certain point through out rock formation. '... My dad let me go on a trip to Australia on the condition that I gave up on the path of dueling.'
As Chumley kept on walking with a down face. He eventually made it to where the massive rock formation ends. 'I was going to decide by throwing my deck away from the top of the sacred Ayers Rock, the center of the world, but... like I'd thought, I just couldn't throw my deck away.'
Suddenly a gust of wind began blowing, and blew away Chumley's hat. As the hat was blown away, Chumley stares off into the horizon and witnessed the sun rising. 'That's when I figured it out. That I love dueling, and I want to go dedicate my life to dueling in whatever way I can!'
Flashback End
Crowler looked shocked as Chumley looked at him with a determined look on his face.
"Alright, first I'll set a facedown. Then I'll activate the spell card Ayers Rock Sunrise!" A large flat rock, ayers Rock, appeared behind Chumley, while sunlight slowly appeared from behind it.
Chumley looked in the corner of his eye, he saw Des Koala appear next to him, nodding happily at Chumley. "It's just like the sun was that morning... I won't give up on my dreams. No matter what happens, I'll keep walking on this path."
"Ayers Rock Sunrise effect, first I discard all cards in my hand. Then I can special summon one beat type monster in my graveyard. I special summon the one, the only...Big Koala in attack mode! (Atk: 2700 Def: 2000)" Chumley discards his last card, then Big Koala once again appeared on the field. "Next for each beast, plant, and winged beast type monster that's in my graveyard. All your monsters lose 200 attack points! I have 4 beast type monsters in my grave with 2 Bubonic Vermins, Des Kangaroo, and Gyaku-Gire Panda, so your monster loses 800 attack points!" Five beams came out of his graveyard and soon appeared said monsters and grabbed a hold of the mechanical dragon, weaking it before disappearing. (Atk: 3000 - 2200 Def: 2000)
"I won't be confused anymore. I play the card I just set, Polymerization! Now I fuse Des Kangaroo and Big Koala on my field to fusion summon Master of Oz in attack mode! (Atk: 4200 Def: 3700)" Master of Oz appeared on the field.
Syrus and the others smiled. "So awesome, that's like, Chumley's best monster!" Syrus said.
"You're doing it, Chumley." Jaden said.
Chumley for a moment stood and looked at Master of Oz at the top of Ayers Rock, amazed over the amazing sight in front of him. "This is what... this one year led up to..."
Crowler looked at Chumley. "Bravo Chumley, very impressive, especially for you." Crowler continued to look at him. 'I can barely imagine what kind of feelings allowed you to persevere as a Dropout Boy a year ago. If it was something I could do, I would allow myself to take your attack and lose like this, wouldn't I? However...' He thought as he closed his eyes.
Chumley then turned to look at Crowler. "Battle, Master of Oz, attack Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon!" Master of Oz jumped down from Ayers Rock and towards the mechanical dragon, pulling back his right arm ready to attack.
"No Chumley!" Red Hat exclaimed.
Crowler eyes remained closed. 'I can not involve my personal feelings into your promotional test, can I?' He thought before opening his eyes to face Chumley. "I active two of my quick plays spells. Chain, Shrink and Limiter Removal! My Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon attack points double. Shrink will cut your Master of Oz attack points in half! (Atk: 2200 - 4400 Def: 2000) (Atk: 4200 - 2100 Def: 3700)" The mechanical dragon got covered in a purple aura. The meachical dragon fired a blast of green energy at Master of Oz, knocking it to the ground before it was destroyed.
Chumley: 2800 - 500 LP
"Now don't forget Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon's effect. Since he dealt battle damage to you, and your monster was destroyed in battle, you take 400 and 600 burn damage. Enough to finish you off." Gadjiltron Dragon fired multiple beams at Chumley, depleteing his LP.
Chumley: 500 - 100 - 0 LP
"I... I lost!" sobbed Chumley, who had worked so hard to obtain victory.
Even though Chumley lost the duel, his friends still applauded for him doing such a great job against the struggling Crowler, cheering him on even after the duel was over. They wooed and clapped loudly for him. Red Hat even stood up and clapped along with them. 'Can't win them all I guess. This is why I don't trust back row.' Red Hat thought with a smile.
"That was awesomely-interesting duel! You got him, Chumley!" Jaden cheered as he did his signiture pose.
"The best, right Bastion, Chazz?" Syrus said.
"Yeah." replied Bastion.
"The guy did a pretty good job out there." Chazz said.
"Yeah... that was an interesting duel..." said Chumley, wiping his tears away with his sleeve. He was happy his friends still applauded for him even after his loss.
"Chumley..." said Crowler as he approached him. "Your promotion exam has resulted in your loss, has it not?"
"Yes, thank you very much." Chumely replied with a slight bow.
"Chancellor?" Jaden question as he turned to Sheppard. Not understanding the situation.
"However, the detail in your dueling was splendid. It was magnificant. As Duel Academy's Chief General Director of Practical Application... I will be recommending you to the Industrial Illusions. Congratulations."
Seeing a hand offered to him, Chumely confirmed one more time to make sure he wasn't dreaming. "Dr Crowler, does that mean?"
"You're graduating, congratulations."
With a bright and proud look on his face, Chumley gratefully took Crowler's hand, shaking it as a sign of acceptance over his duel.
"Still we'll be separating from Chumley now, won't we?" Syrus said with a sad look.
Jaden turned to Syrus. "It's a new journey for Chumley, so don't cry."
"We should be proud of Chumley." Red Hat said.
Jaden and Red Hat then noticed Chancellor Sheppard crying at the whole exchange. Soon everyone in the group began laughing, with Red Hat laughing nervously. Not knowing how to react to the scene.
Later that same day. The group stood outside at the cliffside as they watched a certain plane leave the island. They all know who was on the that plane and smiled as they watched it fly away into the distance.
"Give it your all, Chumley." Jaden muttered with a smile.
"Chumley is moving on to do better things." Red Hat muttered. "I hope you do well with your future."
At that moment Red Hat chosed to to leave the gang. Not wanting to take part in this any longer. 'Someday I'll turn pro. I just have to put in the best of effort, and well... not act like a total angry teen. I'll have to work on that... eventually...' Red Hat thought as he walked back to the dorm.
The Next Day
It was currently late in the afternoon, as Red Hat walks away from the main Academy building all on his own. Today was the day of the Promotion Exams, the writen and the practical exams. Red Hat had very little trouble on the writen test. The practical exam... he rather not remember the duel he had.
'Ever since they changed the rules, that your score on the writen test determines your opponent. I've now been getting Obelisk Blues as my opponents.' Red Hat thought as he continued to aimless wal around. 'Many want to duel me for the sake of proving a point, only for them to humilate themselves.' Red Hat sighed. 'It's tiresome and a waste of my time... Least my duel was a decent challenge for what it's worth.'
Red Hat continued to walk away aimless alone. Until he suddenly got a message on his PDA. 'Who would call me besides Jaden and Bastion?' Red Hat thought as he opened up his PDA and took a look at the message. He was genuninely surprised to see who was calling him. It was none other then Alexis Rhodes. 'What could she want?'
As Red Hat played the message. 'Red Hat come over to the beach quickly. You have to come here for something. You'll find out what it is when you get here. Jaden and the others are already here with me. I even called Zane to come by here. Do hurry.' The message soon ended as Red Hat put away his PDA.
'What could she possibly want? And at this time of day anyway?' Red Hat thought as he began running to the direction of the beach.
Red Hat kept on running until he reached the beach. Once he got there, he found Alexis, Jaden, Chazz, and Syrus all there waiting for him. Zane soon came to the beach as well. Red Hat knew Zane was also called on by Alexis.
"Something the matter that you had to call us all the way out here?" Red Hat asked.
"Zane! Red Hat! Over here!" Alexis called out.
Zane glared, but was concerned. "What's wrong, Alexis?"
"It's my brother... He's at it again..." Alexis answered as her face grew sour. "You have to stop him!"
Red Hat then noticed Atticus wasn't alone. He saw both Atticus with Jasmine and Mindy sitting nearby.
"Zane! Red Hat! Perfect timing!" Atticus called out as he waved his arm at them.
"Atticus... What's this all about?" Zane asked.
Atticus ignored his question and continued. "Loks like we're all here. Now then... If I could have your attention please! I'd like to present Duel Academy's Most Handsome Duelist Contest!"
Red Hat dead panned at that announcement. 'Really? What's even the point? This is ridiculous.' He thought.
Meanwhile Jasmine and Mindy squeled at the top of their lungs. "Atticus! We love you!"
Alexis closed her eyes and shook her head their friends reactions. "Not this again..."
"I'll be serving as your host and as one of the contestents!" Atticus announced. "Hello ladies! Do you know what I treasure the most in the world?"
"Atticus!" Jasmine squeled.
"It's the fans that support me through and thin." Atticus then does a his pose. "And that means you!"
"Atticus! You're so dreamy!" Mindy squeled.
"Woah... What's going on here?" Syrus asked.
"Now then, the moment you've all been waiting for! I'll give you the beautiful, multi-talented contestants! Contestant number 1!" Atticus announced. "He entered the Academy as an elite duelist! He fears nothing-not even the power of darkness-due to his spirital strength! A man who loves his little sister from the bottom of his heart... I present to you, the pop star duelist of the next generation... Me! Atticus Rhodes!"
'I find this incredibly questionable.' Red Hat sweat dropped. 'Is this the kind of person Atticus is like?'
"He's just going on about himself." Syrus pointed out.
"I think he just want's attention." Red Hat commented.
"I-I'm a bit jealous..." Bastion said.
"Not you too, Bastion." Red Hat dead panned at what Bastion just said.
"Well, I'm embarrassed!" Alexis replied.
"And now for contestant number 2!" Atticus continued. "His round eyes and manly eyebrows make him a favorite of older ladies! He's got a heart as big as the oceanand a gentle personality to boot! He's knwon by every soul here at the Academy as a kindhearted leader...! That's right! It's Chancellor Sheppard!"
Red Hat turned around to see Chancellor Sheppard standing nearby with Dorthy and Ms. Fontaine. 'When did Chancellor Sheppard get here? Of course Ms. Fontaine would be here. Often in class she would talk about Atticus from time to time.'
"Ha ha ha!" Sheppard laughed off for a bit upon being called. To no one's surprise evryone in the audience remained silent. "Ha ha ha! Thank you for the introduction Atticus."
"I'll be rooting for you!" Dorthy spoke up.
"D-Dorthy!" Sheppard was a bit surprised by Dorthy declaration. "Well, if I'm going to be in the contest, I might as well and try to win it."
"Dorthy seems to be getting into the mood." Chazz commented.
Alexis sighed at their reactions by this ridiculous contest. "I'm sorry to interrupt your fun, but I'm going to have to call off this contest!"
Jasmine and Mindy turned to Alexis with shocked expressions. "Alexis!?"
"Enough with this nonsense, Atticus!" Alexis demanded.
"You don't have to worry about me, Sissy. Even if I do win the contest, my love for you will remain eternal!" Atticus replied. "Besides, I think you're going to like the next contestant!"
Alexis signed as she gave up on trying to stop him. "There's just no way to get through to him..."
"Atticus can certainly be a handful..." Zane replied.
"And now, contestant number 3!" Atticus continued. "Here at Duel Academy, he's an independent figure with unmatched strength! Combining perfection with a respectful attitude... He's everybody's favorite duelist! Zane Truesdale!" Atticus announced.
"What!?" Zane was shocked when he heard his named being called.
"Zane!?" Alexis questioned.
"What's this about Atticus?" Zane asked.
"Ha ha ha! This contest would be no fun without you involved, Zane." Atticus explained. "Besides, Red Hat is contestant number 4, so you can just relax."
"HUH!?" Red Hat was shocked that his name was called. "H-Hey! Why are you doing bringing me into your ridiculous contest!?"
"B-But what about me!?" Chazz complained. "Aren't I in the contest!?"
"Atticus! I'd like to be in the contest too! Let me be in the spotlight!" Bastion spoke up.
Zane closed his eyes and sighed, having had enough with Atticus ridiculousness. "Sorry, Atticus, but I have no intention of going along with this farce."
"Zane!?" Atticus questioned.
"No...! You're so handsome! It would be a waste not to enter!" Mindy complained.
"That's right! You have to!" Fonda chimed in.
'You people are insane...' Red Hat thought. 'And I thought I went mad...'
"Well, if you insist that much, I suppose we can settle this with a duel." said Zane.
Atticus merly just smiled at Zane sugguestion. "He heh... All right then. I was waiting to hear those words from you! Zane... Do you remember...? How you and I used to duel like this all the time?"
Zane lightly smiled. "Heh... yeah." Zane then closed his eyes in annoyance again. "And of course, you were always the one who came up with reasons to duel..."
"Hey, this is starting to get interesting!" Jaden spoke up, amiling that a duel is about to begin.
"So Zane, if I win this duel, you have to be in the contest." Atticus explained.
Zane open his eyes and paused for a bit before responding with a glare. "...Sounds OK to me. But if I win, the contest will be called off."
"What!? Called off!?" Jasmine question with a sad expression.
"That's not fair! I protest!" Mindy added.
"Remind me why these two are even here?" Red Hat asked.
Alexis glared at her friends. "Jasmine! Mindy! Don't indulge my brother!"
"Awwwww!" Jasmine whined.
Zane sighed. "I have one suggestion, Atticus."
"A suggestion?" Atticus perked up.
"Why don't we make this a tag duel? I will be partners with Red Hat." This caused Red Hat to turn around shocked that Zane would suggest being partners with him.
"Hey, that's a good idea! This should make things interesting!" Atticus agreed. "Now let's see... My partner will be..."
"Atticus! Pick me as your partner!" Mindy begged. "We can't let this contest be cancelled!"
Alexis was shocked by her declaration. "H-Hey! Mindy!?"
"Hmm... Yes! That's the kind of spirit I like to see! All right then! You can be my partner! We'll keep this contest going!" Atticus accepted Mindy as his partner.
"Yes! Thank you!" Mindy squeled.
"Hey! That's not fair, Mindy! I wanted to be his partner too!" Jasmine complained.
"Good luck, Atticus! You've got to win and let me in the contest!" Chazz cheered.
That was enough to set Red Hat off. "Alright, enough of this ridiculous farce." Red Hat walked up close until he was by Zane's side.
Sheppard was rather amused by the turn of events. "Yes, this is becoming rather interesting indeed."
"Zane! Red Hat! You've got to stop my brother!" Alexis pleaded.
"I know... Stopping him has become my job in a way." Zane replied.
'Just what stunts Atticus used to pull, before he disappeared and became... that?' Red Hat thought as he sweat dropped.
"It's show time!" Atticus announced as he and Mindy readied their duel disks.
'We're dueling Mindy and Atticus. Looks like this will be easier then I thought. I observed Mindy's dueling during the Promotion Exams. She's so comically terrible. She'll just hold Atticus back.' Red Hat thought as he and Zane readied their duel disk.

"I'll let you begin Zane." Atticus insisted.
"Very well, it's my turn, I draw!" Zane draws.

"I'll summon Reflect Bounder in attack mode! (Atk: 1700 Def: 1000)" Reflect Bounder appears on the field. "I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." Zane ends his turn.

"Here I go Zane. It's my turn I draw!" Atticus draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Chiron the Mage in attack mode! (Atk: 1800 Def: 1000)" A warrior wearing armor and in a horse like body, holding a staff with a red orb appears on the field. "Now for his effect, by discarding a spell card from my hand, I can destroy one spell or trap on the field. I'll toss this card to destroy your facedown." Atticus discards Gaia Power spell from his hand, then Chiron orb started to glow and fired a laser at Zane's facedown destroying it.
"Playing a different deck Atticus?" Red Hat asked with curiosity. As Red Hat expected his dragon deck.
"A super star always has to have a different act. It's only natural." Atticus answered. "I'll take damage by destroying that Reflect Bounder, but as they say, no pain no game! Battle, Chiron attack his Reflect Bounder!" Chiron charges forward and uses it's staff to smash the Reflect Bounder. Reflect Bounder soon fired back a blast of light at Atticus.

"I'll set a card facedown and end my turn. Your move." Atticus ended his turn.

"Alright it's my turn, I draw!" Red Hat draws.

'Bricky hand... I can't lose heart.' Red Hat thought as he continued. "I set a monster. Then I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." Red Hat ends his turn.

"It's my tur, I draw!" Mindy draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Mataza the Zapper in attack mode! (Atk: 1300 Def: 1000)" A samurai looking man, with green armor appeared on the field. "Next I play the equip spell card United we Stand! I'll equip it to Zapper. For each monster on the field he gains 800 attack points!" Mataza powers up (Atk: 1300 - 3100 Def: 1000) "Oh and you can not take control of him as he prevents that, and he can attack twice per battle phase!"
"Show them what you can do Mindy!" Jasmine cheered.
"Battle, Mataza the Zapper attack his facedown monster!" Mataza unsheath his sword and charged in. Red Hat, though was prepared.
"Go trap card, Crush Card Virus! By tributing a dark monster with 1000 or less attack points. I can destroy all monsters on my opponents side of the field and in their hands that have 1500 or more attack points!" The facedown monster was soon revealed to be Sangan. (Atk: 1000 Def: 600)"And what do you know, my Sangan has exactly 1000 attack points so I can tribute him." The fur ball soon was covered in a purple aura before it exploded and released many toxicents at the monsters destroying them. "Also monsters in my opponents hand are also effected. In this case only in Mindy's hand as it was her turn." Mindy's hand was revealed and two of her monsters, which were Holy Knight Ishzark and Silent Swordsman LV 5. Her other cards were Mirror Wall and Call of the Haunted.
"No fair!" Mindy complained. "You're getting rid of my best cards!"
"Tough luck is what they say." Red Hat replied. "Sangan effect, I get to add a monster with 1500 or less attack from my deck to my hand. I'll choose this one Dandylion." Red Hat adds his card as his deck was shuffled. "Now for the next three of my opponents turns, when you draw a card or draw cards. You have to show me the cards your drawn if you happen to draw a monster with 1500 or more attack points."
"Man, so we draw cards, we'll have to be careful." Atticus said.
"Aww... I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn." Mindy ends her turn.

"Can you keep up? It's my turn, I draw!" Zane draws.
Hand 5
"I summon Cyber Phoenix in attack mode! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1600)" Cyber Phoenix appears on the field. "Cyber Phoenix attack them directly!" Cyber Phoenix readies it's mechanical wings and fires red lasers at Mindy.
"Go continuous trap, Mirror Wall! This card cuts your attacking monsters in half!" A wall of mirrors rise from the ground as Cyber Phoenix attack was now weaker. (Atk: 1200 - 600 Def: 1600)
Atticus & Mindy: 6200 - 5600 LP
"I'll end my turn with a facedown." Zane ends his turn.

"Alright, it's my turn. I draw!" Atticus draws.
Hand 4
"Let me see the card you drew." Red Hat reminded him.
"It's a spell card Graceful Charity. So it's safe to keep." Atticus reveals the spell he drew. "I won't be paying Mirror Wall's cost, so it's destroyed." The Mirror Wall trap card shattered as the cost was not payed.
'That card was outdated when I was a kid. Back then you ran it if you had no further alternitives. Now that we have Sakuretsu Armor and Widespread Ruin. That card aged, really badly.' Red Hat thought, questioning Mindy's play of a outdated trap card.
"I play the spell Graceful Charity! So I draw 3 cards, then I discard 2 of them." Aticus draws his cards. Each card he showed to Red Hat, which were Manticore of Darkness, Premature Burial and Exarion Universe. "I'll discard both Exarion and Madiore of Darkness." Atticus discards his cards. "Now I the equip spell Premature Burial! By paying 800 LP I can special summon a monster from my grave. I choose to special summon Manticore of Darkness! (Atk: 2300 Def: 1000)" A yellow muscular beast like creature with dark wings appeared on the field, letting out a roar.
Atticus & Mindy: 5600 - 4800 LP
'I thought you might try that. I'll have to destroy his equip during Mindy's turn.' Red Hat thought.
"Now I summon Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei! (Atk: 2300 Def: 0)" A Beast like warrior with a helmet appears on the field. "It's show time! Battle, Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei attack his Cyber Phoenix! Lay the smack down!" The beast warrior charges forward and leads up into the air, before slamming it's fists onto the cybernetic phoenix.
Zane & Red Hat: 7900 - 6800 LP
"Cyber Phoenix effect, when it's destroyed while in attack position, I get to draw 1 card!" Zane explains as he draws his card.
"Now Manticore of Darkness attack Zane directly!" The beast charges and slams at Zane, pushing him back slightly.
Zane & Red Hat: 6800 - 4500 LP
"Heck yeah, I'll set card facedown and end my turn." Atticus ends his turn.

"It's my turn, I draw!" Red Hat draws.

"I play the spell Pot of Greed! So I draw 2 more cards." Red Hat draws his cards. 'It's a long shot...' Red Hat thought as he continued. "I play the spell Brain Control! By paying 800 LP I can take control of one monster on the your field. I choose Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei!" The beast warrior comes to Red Hat's side while still kneeling down.

"Now I tribute your monster to summon, Zaborg the Thunder Monarch! (Atk: 2400 Def: 1000)" With a blast of lightning Zaborg appears. "Now his effect, since he's was tribute summoned, I can destroy a monster on the field. So your Manticore of Darkness is destroyed!" Zaborg launched powerful blast of lightning, destroying the beast of darkness. "Battle, Zaborg attack Atticus directly! Lightning blast!" Zaborg charges up his attack...
"Sorry, but I'll activate my trap card, Sakuretsu Armor! This card destroys your attacking monster!" An armored beast appears and takes the lightning attack, before slamming at the monarch and destroying him.
"Argh, I set one card facedown and end my turn." Red Hat ends his turn.
Hand 4
"Since it's the end phase, by sending a beast, beast-warrior, or winged beast monster from my hand or field to the grave I can being back Manticore od Darkness! So I discard my Vorse Raider to bring back Manticore in attack mode! (Atk: 2300 Def: 1000)" The beast of darkness appeared again, letting out a roar.
"That's my Attie!" Mindy cheered. "Now it's my turn. I draw!" Mindy draws.
Hand 1
"Let me see your hand." Red Hat reminded her.
"The card I drew was Obnoxious Celtic Guard. I'll go ahead and summon him right away. (Atk: 1400 Def: 1200)" An elf swordsman appeared on the field. "Battle, Manticore attack him directly!" The beast began charging in.
"Like I'm letting you. Go trap card, Mirror Force! All your attack position monsters are destroyed." A barrier surrounded Red Hat and Zane. The beast slammed itself on the holy barrier and it's attack was reflected as it and the elf warrior were destroyed.
"Ahh, well I still got a back up. I play my continuous trap, Call of the Haunted and bring one of the monsters you destroyed with your trap. I special summon Silent Swordsman LV5! (Atk 2300 Def: 1000)" An evolved form of Silent Swordsman appears onto the field. "It's still my battle phase. Silent Swordsman LV5 attack him directly!" The swordsman leaps into the air and begins to attack them.
'I could use Zane's trap card and destroy it...' Red Hat thought befoe he decided to reconisder. 'Nah, I rather not. I rather, she realize it's futile.'
Zane & Red Hat : 3700 - 1400 LP
"With that I end my turn. We're going to win Attie!" Mindy cheered as she ends her turn.
Hand 0
'Not by a long shot.' Red Hat thought.
"Enough of this farce. It's my turn I draw!" Zane draws.
Hand 4
"It's time to end this duel." Zane flatly said.
"Huh? How do you plan on doing that?" Mindy questioned.
"I activate my trap card, Raigeki Break! By discarding one card. Your monster is destroyed!" Zane discards his card, then a powerful lightning blast rained down and destroyed the swordsman.
"No! My swordsman!" Mindy cried out.
"I summon Proto Cyber Dragon in attack mode! (Atk: 1100 Def: 600)" A brown, prototype version of Cyber Dragon appeared on the field. "It's effect is that, it's treated as Cyber Dragon while he's on the field. Now I play the spell card Power Bond!" Zane said as he activated his card.
"The duel is over..." Syrus muttered.
"No!" Jasmine cried out.
"Go and defeat them Zane!" Alexis cheers.
Red Hat chuckled. "Nice going Zane."
Zane ignores the comments from the others. "With this I fuse Proto Cyber Dragon and the Cyber Dragon in my hand to fusion summon!" Both dragons swirled togeher into a black void. "Emerge, Cyber Twin Dragon! (Atk: 2800 Def: 2100)" Both Cyber dragons form to create a two headed version of itself. "Thanks to Power Bond's effect, Cyber Twin Dragon attack points double! (Atk: 2800 - 5600 Def: 2100)"
"No... we lose?" Mindy said.
"Guess lady luck took the day off." Atticus joked.
"Cyber Twin Dragon can attack twice each turn! This duel is over! Cyber Twin Dragon attack! Double Strident Blast!" After hearing Zane's command, the twin headed machine let out two separate blasts of energy, each one hitting both Mindy and Atticus.
Atticus & Mindy : 4800 - 0 LP
"Urgh... Zane! Red Hat! You two are definitely good!" Atticus said.
"You did it! Good job, Zane, Red Hat!" Jaden cheered. "That was an amazing duel!"
'I barely did anything, Jaden. The terror of playing monarchs is bricking hard. Four monarchs, I had in my starting hand.' Red Hat thought.
"B-but... The contest..." Chazz cried out.
Fonda Fontaine sighed in disappointment. "That's too bad."
Alexis glared at her brother. "You promised, Atticus! No more of this nonsense!"
"Aw... OK, Sissy..." replied Atticus. "I did promise. I'll back down this time."
"I'm sorry, Atticus... It was my fault that we lost..." apologized Mindy.
"That's not true! Most duelist would have a hard time beating those two." Atticus replies with a smile. "Besides, I had fun! Right, Zane?"
Zane gave a small smile. "Yeah. That was a great duel. It reminded me of the old days... Duels like these make you realize just how great dueling is."
Red Hat smiled at that. "Amazing Zane."
"Heh heh... You're amazing, Zane!" Jaden commented. "And of course you were great too, Red Hat!"
"Zane, Sissy, Red Hat... I may have lost today... But where there's entertainment... you'll find me-the talented Atticus Rhodes!" Atticus then gave everyone a thumbs up. "I hope to see you all very soon! Farewell!" Atticus then takes off.
"Atticus!" Squealed Jasmine as she chased after Atticus.
"Wait! Atticus!" Mindy calls out as she follows them.
Chazz envied Atticus' attitude. "Atticus never lets himself get depressed! I have to be more like him!"
"The day that happens is the day you stop being an absolute asshole and incredibly salty when you lose to me or Jaden." Red Hat commented with a smirk.
Chazz got annoyed, but kept his cool as to not react to Red Hat's comment.
Alexis sighed at all the events that occured. "I really don't know what I'm going to do with that brother of mine..."
Zane sweat drops as Atticus left. "Actually, I've gotten used to it these days..."
Soon everyone that was at the beach left to go their separate ways. Alexis leaves with Zane to head to their usual spot they hang out at. Sheppard left with Dorthy and Fonda Fontaine, which the latter went back to the girls dorm and the former head back to the Academy building. Jaden and the gang left together to return to the Slifer Red Dorm. Chazz not wanting to be a part of this affair, split off from the group and wondered off on his own.
'I bricked really hard. I'll have to rearrange my deck. I can't let myself brick that hard again. Guess that's my fault for not properly preparing.' Red Hat though as he took a look as his deck while walking. 'I'll just have to keep experimenting with different builds. I want to fully retire the old chaos deck I used to use. Oh well...' Red Hat thought as he put away his deck back into his deck box and returned to his room.
Once he returned to his room, he checked his current status. "Only a couple of loses and those were from Zane and that one duel I had with Bastion. Sounds about right." Red Hat continued to check his status and saw his duel points. "They said they have a system in place to reduce your duel points once the year is over. I hope that's not the case. Cause then, I would have to do some last minute shopping to buy as many card packs and sandwiches as possible before the year is over. Hope it doesn't come to that." Red Hat then put away his PDA and soon drifted to sleep on his bunk bed.
A/N: This took far too long. I was having some time off with other things at the time. This was supposed to be finished a month eariler, but of well. I was busy with another project which I won't continue until this fanfic is completed. This is just to show you all that I won't be updating on a consistent schedule. Just letting you know. I will be focusing on this for now as my other project will be put on hold. Anyway time for some clarification.
1) The Tag Force effect of Ayers Rock Sunrise requires you to discard your entire hand (Min. 1) To special summon a beast from the grave then reduce the attack of all monsters your opponent controls x200 until the end phase for every Beast, Plant, and Winged-Beast type monsters in your grave . It's such a bad card just for it's out of place discard effect.. Anime Version doesn't require you to discard any cards. The attack decrease is permident. The real-life version was not printed until 2014. The real version is the same as the anime version except it the attack decreae is until the end phase and it's a hard once per turn. For some reason.
2) The duel was altered so the duel isn't just the same as the anime, cause that would be redundant. Crowler's deck was changed to be unique and well... a reference to the Machines Re-volt structure deck.
3) The Zane and Atticus duel is a reference to the Tag Force 3 Regular Zane route. Only slightly altered to maintain continuity within season 1 and other references to Tag Force routes that will show up.
