Not so Happy Summer Part 2
A/N: Time for some clarification with one comment before we begin. Name will not be mentioned.
A) All duels shown here. The reasons it's done in a script like manner is for a multitude of reasons. 1: To prevent cheating and inconsistency. 2: To prevent dueling mistakes, both life points and incorrect hands. 3: The duels are tested on both Tag Force and Ygopro/Edopro. It's done in this way cause I have to make sure every single play is legit and follows the many rules the game has. If the play is not legit, then the idea get's scrapped and I start over. The anime is notorious for ignoring rules for convenience or so main character or villain of the week can get advantage.
B) I do not wish to give a play by play of the duels via end notes. The duels are writen in a way where it's at least easy going and easy to understand. Also I cut down on spectating on purpose. The reasons is I can not stand when characters keep on talking about a bad situation where the board is so easily broken. Cause so many problems can be solved with Smashing Ground, Lightning Vortex, MST, Heavy Storm, you name it. So it's why I cut down on characters talking during duels as it's get very repetetive.
Now that we're done with that. Let's begin. Hope this meets to expectation.
A few days have passed since Red Hat participated in th local tournament. He was currently resting in his bed, still thinking about how he should go about doing things. Despite only being half way through his summer. He still had some unfinished business to take care of.
For one thing, what's with the electricity flickering on and off? It was happening more frequently then it's supposed to. Not just his own home, but also the Satellite District. He had to conclude it was more then just a simple power failure. However, he had no leads or evidence on such matters besides what happened at winter break last year. He decided to look into at a different time.
'Am I feeling down?' He thought, getting up from his bed. 'Still, what's with the lights? It can't just be a power failure.' He got himmself dressed, and then made himself some instant ramen for breakfast.
'You seem troubled.' Aussa his duel spirit friend appeared on his couch. 'If I had to guess, is it because of the power failure?'
Red Hat turned to glance at her. "That's one reason. I'm still trying to figure out what's the problem. This city is huge, so a power failure that's also effecting the city is very questionable."
'I've been noticing that. The power has been going on and off lately. It's most apperent at night hours.' Assua replied. 'Something else on your mind?'
Red Hat pasued for a moment. Getting his instant ramen from the microwave before sitting on his couch next to Aussa. "I want to see Blair again. It may just be chance, but I want to speak with her."
Aussa smirked at him. 'Oh, is that your teenage emotions calling out now?'
Red Hat chocked on his own food when she said that. He coughed out some of his ramen, before regaining his composure. "What are you on about!? It's not like that all and you know it!" He said with a glare, flustered by her implications.
Aussa burst out laughing at his expense. 'Calm down, jeez, can't take a joke can you.'
"Not funny..." He groaned, continuing to eat his left over ramen. "I have no such feelings for Blair. She's my friend."
Aussa wanted to retort, but decided to remain quite. 'Your eyes say otherwise. Didn't anyone tell you. You aren't a good lier.'
Both of them remained quiet for quite some time. Red Hat would soon finish eating his ramen before cleaning up. He would then grab his duel disk and two of his deck boxes before heading out and locking his house. His partner, Aussa decided this time around to tag along with him, but remain silent through out their walk.
'I certainly hope I don't end up having to constantly search for her. That would be suspicious.' He thought, continuing his silent walk around he city.
Sometimes he asked himself. What was he feeling? He never acted in such a way before, so why now? Before meeting her, he never acted so irrationally. He didn't want to think about it further. The more he thought about it, the more confused he'd be. He shook his head and took a deep breaths to calm down. He shouldn't be worrying about such trivial matters.
'What's wrong with me? Why do I care about her so much?' He thought. He kept asking himself this everyday, but couldn't answer his own question.
His thoughts reminded him, why he would stay away from female duelists.
Flashback
A younger version of himself, this time what appeared to be in middle school, approached a group of school kids inside the classroom. Since they were all dueling, why not join in on the fun? This could be an interesting time before classes began. He noticed among the group were a few school girls. Did they start to take an interest in dueling?
"Hey... Mind if I join in on the fun?" He asked as he sat down on one of the desk.
"I don't see why not." One of the girls replied.
"Let's see what you're made of." One of the guys said.
Red Hat nodded and sat down on the opposite side. "Okay, let's make this enjoyable."
Despite what he said. The duel was anything but enjoyable. At least, it wasn't for the girl dueling him. He had out played her, using cards such as Mirror Force, Ring of Destruction, and the newly released Snatch Steal. Often he waited for the right moment to strike back. Letting her get some advantage. The girl did not take her loss well.
"Did he just do that?" One of the boys questioned.
"Grr, no fair using rare and powerful cards like that!" The girl snapped. "Just who do you think you are!?"
"If this is how you're going to act, I'm leaving." Red Hat took his cards and left them behind. Not even bothering to glance at them.
He would then start challenging other girls to a duel using their matts. More often then not, the duels were one sided and the same results happened numerous times. It's gotten so bad, his mood would only sour every time.
"You're no fun!" The girl he beaten groaned.
"I never liked dueling anyway!" Another girl he beaten snapped at him as she crossed her arms in a huff.
"You're so cruel! Not letting me play!" Anther girl he beaten snapped.
"You like picking on beginners, don't you?" Another girl snapped.
It got the point, Red Hat started to dislike the girls attitude and just brushed them off. Not even caring if they had a deck or not. He refused to interact and entertain these entitled girls. If that's how they acted while he played normally, imagine their reaction to them dueling pros and regional champions.
"Who am I kidding. They don't care in the slightest. They are just trend chasers pretending to care and play the game." He muttered. Holding his deck close to him.
It was at that point, his view on female duelists warped into annoyance and disappointment. He took a glance at them dueling other guys, with significantly less skill then he had. They either complained or just left immediately with huff. That exchange only left him with a scowl and a soured look on his face. Slowly he walked away from the scene, not even looking back.
"They mean nothing to me... especially after what happened..." He shook his head. Not wanting to think about that. Not after what he delt with at home. "I still never forgive her." He walked along until classes was over. Ignoring the muttering from the other students.
Flashback End
'Hey, Red Hat, are you awake?' Aussa called out to him, waving her hand in front of him.
He blinked a few time as he turned to glance at her and shook his head. "Did I spaced out?"
'You sure did. What's the matter? Bad memories?' Aussa asked.
"Guess you can say that." He sighed. "Is it wrong to assume, many females are just horrible?"
Aussa adjusted her glasses and took in what he just said. 'That depends on your definition of bad. How bad are we talking about?'
"Never mind..." He replied. "Last thing I need is a scolding from you."
'I got all day, and I think it's a good time as any to explain it to me.' Aussa insisted.
He groan when she said that. He knew there was no point in arguing with her. "Okay... just not here. The park will do nicely." He began running to his designated location, with Aussa following behind him. He ignored the walking pedestrians, who took glances at him, confused.
After some time Red Hat and his spirit friend made it to the park he was at last time. After looking around, while catching his breath after running for so long. He sat down under the same tree he was at before. He then slowly layed down on the ground while staring at the rustling leaves from the tree. Despite it being already way past mid day, since he woken up real late. He was completely covered by the shade of the tree. Red Hat fought the urge to fall sleep under the tree, knowing he be having a 'chat' with his spirit friend.
'We're all alone now.' Aussa spoke up as she sat down next to him. 'The park is farely empty and I don't think anyone is going to see or care about you laying down here.'
"True." Was his only reply.
'You still haven't answered my question. Why do you have such distain for the girls? It can't just be because of their dueling skills?' Aussa asked.
Red Hat glanced at her, before glancing back at the leaves. 'Should I tell her why?' He thought for a moment before responding. "No, that's not the only reason." He replied softly, lowing his hat further to cover his eyes.
'Explain then. I'm not letting this go.' Aussa persisted.
"I strongly dislike the girls sense of entitlment. It doesn't help the girls at the Academy believe they are amazing, despite the fact even Slifer Reds can beat them. Their attitudes are also atrocious." He simply explained.
'So that's why? I'm sure there's another reason isn't it?' Aussa asked.
He remained quite for some time. He sighed, before responding. "Their terrible actions... reminds me of my mother... I rather not talk about it. I hate talking about her." He said with a hint of venom.
'If so, then I won't force you to tell me if you don't want me to. I do wish to hear an explaination some time in the future.' Aussa said, slwoly fading away back into her realm
"Maybe somday..." He replied.
Red Hat continued to stare off into the sky. Watching the leaves rustling back and forth by the warm summer breeze. Despite talking to his spirit friend, he really hasn't changed his world view by much. He felt like there was something he was missing. For the longest time, he always believed in his own mentality when it came to many females he encountered during his young life. Now, he wasn't so sure. He met so many different people these past few months, including his spirit friend. He began questioning his old beliefs.
'I met Blair, Alexis, heck I even just recently met Bright and Yuma. Just maybe...' He thought raising his hat a little. 'They aren't like those other girls I met long ago. Could Bright be correct? Should I try and meet others and see that they aren't so horrible?' He thought about it. He wanted to beileve many are differenat and not all act the same. He would have to wait and see. Last thing he wanted was causing drama.
Minutes soon turned to hours before Red Hat would wake up from his slumber on the grass. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. Had he fallen asleep in the park again? He hoped this wasn't becoming a habit for the summer. When he took a look at his surroundings. He found out the entire park was nearly empty with a handful of kids here and there, just hanging out. He let out a sigh and stood up. As he was about to leave.
"Red Hat? I didn't expect to see you here again." A voice called out to him.
He turned around and noticed who called him. It was none other then Blair, once again. She was dressed in the same manner she was last time. Only this time she decided to drop her long socks.
"Blair, It's nice to see you again." He greeted.
"Been a while since we last met huh? Well, what brings you here to the park all by yourself?" Blair asked after greeting him.
Red Hat looked side to side, before responding. "I just wanted to spend time outside is all. Was not in the mood to duel today either."
Blair shook her head. "Then why are you carrying your duel disk and two deck boxes? I highly doubt it's just for show. Also, you outside? You were never one for going outside. I had to pull you out of your room, just to get to class on time." Blair pointed out.
Red Hat pulled his hat down to hide his slight embarassment. "You don't have to remind me about those times. Was planning on dueling some more, but had some things to fix up for."
"I find that a bit hard to believe. Since you usually plan and test your decks first." Blair said. "But enough about that. Have you heard that Zane has begun taking on the Pro Leagues?"
Red Hat perked up after she mentioned that. "I have actually. In fact for his graduation duel. He picked Jaden and I to be his opponents, with Atticus as his partner."
"What? No way! You actually got to duel Zane with Jaden by your side?" Her eyes started to gleam. "Tell me, did you and Jaden win. Or did Zane beat you!?"
Red Hat held back from chuckling at her excitment. "Well, neither of us won. If anything Jaden and I tied against Zane and Atticus."
"A tie? you two must have given it your all in order to tie Zane." Blair said.
"Well... I did build an Elemental HERO deck like Jaden so we could synergize... It's didn't work out very well." He said looking down.
"Eh, you played a deck like Jaden? How did it feel to use your friends deck?" She asked, sitting down near the tree as she crossed her legs.
Red Hat sat down next to her. "It was an.. interesting experience to say the least. I'm not the biggest fan of Jaden's deck. Still, the fact I even considered using his HERO deck. It was quite fun." He said with a smile.
"See, it wasn't so bad trying new things. Wish I could have seen that duel." Blair said, looking at him.
"You give me too much credit, Blair. I wasn't that good." He admited. "But all that aside. How have you been?"
Blair blinked a few times. "I... I've been doing alright. My parents have both started working now. It's given me some more free time." She explained.
"I see... So what do you do in you're free time?" He asked.
"Well, after hearing the how many duelist are following the pro leagues examples. I was thinking of reconstructing my deck." Blair explained. "I've also been keeping up with my studies. I've been studying really hard as of late."
"Really?" He questioned. "Studying hard for any paticualr reason? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Blair shook her head. "No, I'll tell you." Blair paused for a few moments, before coming up with a way to tell him. "I want to enter Duel Academy again..."
Red Hat blinked a few times. Did she just say that? "Um... I'm sorry, come again. You said you want to join Duel Academy again?"
Blair nodded. "Yes, I do. Not only for myself... I want to see you and Jaden again."
"But, wouldn't it be too late? You'll be starting middle school soon, and by the time it's our third year and it will be too late." Red Hat explained.
Blair shakes her head, denying his claim. "I'll find a way. If it means skipping grades... Then I'll do what it takes!"
Red Hat was shocked at what she just declared. Was she really willing to go so far to skip grades? Skipping one grade was already an impressive feat. But to skip the entirety of middle school? That just sounded ludicrous! How was she going to pull that off? Let alone in a full year? Prodigies were already very rare, regardless of education, or in this case dueling. Was she going to pull it off? Was this even allowed? He had so many questions, but he had no answers for any of them. However, something deep inside him wanted her to succeed.
'What am I thinking? What's wrong with me?' He thought. Remaining silent for a while.
"Earth to Red Hat!" Blair said, waving her hand in front of his face. "Are you in there? You're awfully quiet."
Red Hat snapped out of his thoughts and glanced at her. "Sorry Blair, I was just thinking about a lot of things."
Blair narrowed her eyes slighty at him. "You don't think I can make it, do you?"
"T-thats... not what I was thinking, Blair." Red Hat stuttered. "I'm more concerned if you're forcing yourself to do this."
Blair then stood up as she placed her hands on her hips. "I'll show you. A maiden's power is stronger then an inferno. I'll show you what I can do!"
Red Hat stood up after her declaration. He couldn't help but smile at her. Rarely did someone ever made him smile. Perhaps that's why he enjoyed Blair's company? He couldn't understand why he found her company enjoyable. 'Maybe it's her nature. That's why I like hanging around her.'
"Say, Blair... How about a little walk around the city?" He asked.
Blair blinked before smirking. "Oh, are you asking me out on a date?" She teased.
Red Hat lightly blushed at her comment. "H-h-hey, it's not a date! Don't say such silly things!"
Blair giggled at his expense. "I'm just pulling your leg silly. While it's getting late, I don't mind staying out so late." She explained. "If anything, reminds me of those times at night during our time at the academy."
Red Hat nodded. "If you're okay with it, then let's have our little walk." Both Red Hat and Blair then leave the park together. Blair following Red Hat behind him.
Evening would soon become nightfall at Domino City. While the duo would continue walking around the city. Various street lights and many lights from the buildings turn on. Luminating most of the place. Red Hat would occasionally take glances at Blair checking up on her from time to time to see if she was doing alright. Both said nothing through out their entire walk around the city. It wasn't until they reached a certain part of the city is when Blair decided to break the silence.
"What is this place? It doesn't look too welcoming." Blair asked.
Red Hat turn around to glance at her. "This is the Satellite District. Not really that great of a place to be honest."
"Eh? So... you live here?" Blair asked. Moving forward to walk right by his side.
"Guess you can say that. My home isn't to far from here." Red Hat took hold of her arm and began running. He took a look at the sky and noticed it would be dark soon. "Despite the light of the city. We need to move. Satellite District isn't exactly safe."
Blair ran along side him while being pulled. "Hey, slow down!" He didn't listen despite calling him out. 'It's just like that other time.'
While they were both running to get to their destination. Something happened they never thought would happen. In an instant, the electrical power, all over the city was beginning to flicker on and one. Even dim on certain points. It wasn't until a few massive sparks not far from their current location started spiraling out of control. Soon the entire city, not just the Satellite District experianced a black out. Many people started scrambling to get to a safe place or back to their homes. the few cars that passed by were heading to their destined location. Something wasn't right here.
"Blair we need to move! It's not safe here!" Red hat took her arm and began sprinting back to his home.
"Ahh, wait up! I can't run that fast!" Blair cried out. Desperately trying to keep up with him. "What's going on that's got you all worked up? It's just a black out."
"The Satellite District is not safe at night, especially during a black out. We're heading to my house." He replied, not even turning to glance at her.
Blair's eyes widen at the thought of staying at his house. 'To his house!? I never been to someone else's house before!' She thought.
Both of them continued to sprint toward Red Hat's home. While it took a little longer then expected to reach the place. They were finally able to make it, despite the black out. Blair took a look at Red Hat's home. It wasn't what she was expecting.
'This is his home? Just how does he live?' She thought. 'It looks pretty simplistic. Guess that's why he loves Slifer Red so much. Still who ever said simplicity was wrong?'
"This is my home. It's nothing special, but hope it's enough." He explained.
As he was about to open the door. They were soon both shocked when a blast of electricity came down right in front of them. They shilded their eyes fromt he intense light. As soon as the light settled down, they were greated by someone. Someone, Red Hat was somewhat familar with it.
"Wait... it can't be!" Red Hat gasped.
"Oh, but it can!" A static voice said. As the electricity dimmed down. The person in question was none other then the duel spirit Jinzo. "Remember me?"
"No... Jinzo! How... how are you here! Who offered their souls now!?" Red Hat asked. "Jaden defeated you before!"
"Red Hat, what's going on? Who is that guy?" Blair asked, frighten by the sudden appearance.
Jinzo merly chuckled at their fear. "It's not what you pathetic humans have offered me. Did you think you can destroy me with a simple duel."
"Just what are you talking about?" Red Hat asked.
"There is no escape for you now! The darkness and your duel energy has drawn me to you!" Jinzo sneered. "Unlike last time, I'll destroy you and that pathetic girl!"
"Red Hat!" Blair got behind him.
"Jinzo, this is between you and me, so leave her alone!" Red Hat demanded.
"That's not a choice I'm going to give you!" Soon a dark barrier appeared around the front porch of Red Hat's home. Preventing them from leaving. "You're in my world now!"
"Why you!" Red Hat punched the barrier, only for him to be shocked by the barrier and bounced back.
"Foolish human! That barrier can not be broken!" Jinzo explained. "The electrical limbo I absorbed from this pathetic city has left me even more powerful!" Jinzo let loose powerful electric shockswaves which strucked Red Hat, causing him to yelp and fall to his knees.
"Argh! If you're going to try and break me. I'll fight you here and now!" Red Hat get's up from the after shocks and readies his duel disk.
"Don't think she'll go unscathed!" Jinzo launched some electricity at Blair, Causing her to yelp which in turn forcefully activated her duel disk she had.
"Wh-wh-wha? the duel disk... activated?" Blair wondered, still recovering from getting zapped.
"Jinzo! Leave her alone!" Red Hat sneered.
"You're in the shadows, so both of you will battle me, and I'll absorb your life force!" Jinzo said.
"Red Hat, I'm sorry!" Blair apologized.
"No! Don't Blair, this isn't your fault." Red Hat assured her. "We may be stuck now, but rest assure. I'll put a stop to him."
Both of them got into position for their upcoming shadow duel.
DUEL
Red Hat & Blair: 8000 LP
Jinzo: 8000 LP
"Let's begin! I draw!" Jinzo replied as five large cards appeared behind as his opening hand and a sixth card appeared in front of him.
Hand 6
"First, I summon Malice Doll of Demise in attack mode! (Atk: 1600 Def: 1700)" A creepy wooden doll with pointy teth appeared on his field. It was holding an axe.
"Not this again." Red Hat muttered.
"If you think this is all I have, you're wrong. I play two continous spell cards, Card of Safe Return and Ectoplasmer!" Both cards appeared in front of Jinzo. "During the end phase, each player must tribute a monster on the field, if any. Then, half of that monsters original attack points will be dealt to the opposing player as damage. So I tribute Malice Doll of Demise. Since you haven't begun a turn yet. The target is the girl!"
"What!" Blair gasped.
A ghostly spirit rose from the doll and flew towards Blair, whirling around her to cause damage. Blair dropped to her knees after the hit.
Red Hat & Blair: 8000 - 7200 LP
"Jinzo, leave her alone!" Red Hat ordered.
"I think not. Watching the both of you suffer pleases me. Turn end." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 3
"Blair, are you okay?" Red Hat asked worryingly.
"I'll be okay... take him down please!" Blair siad slowly getting back up on her feet.
"Very well, it's go time! I draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Breaker the Magical Warrior in attack mode! (Atk: 1600 - 1900 Def: 1000)" Breaker appears on the field. "His effect he gains a spell counter when normal summoned, and that gives him 300 more attack points! Battle, Breaker attack Jinzo directly!" Breaker leaps forward and swings his sword at Jinzo, dealing damage.
Jinzo: 8000 - 6100 LP
"Next, I'll use Breaker's effect. I'll use his spell counter to destroy a spell or trap. So that Ectoplasmer get's destroyed!" Breaker's sword glows lue and fires a blue beam at the spell card and destroys it. (Atk: 1900 - 1600 Def: 1000) "I'll end my turn with a facedown." Red Hat ends his turn.
Hand 4
"My turn, draw!" Jinzo replied as another card appeared in front of him.
Hand 4
"Since Malice Doll of Demise was sent to the graveyard by the effect of a continuous spell card, he comes back to the field. This time in attack mode! (Atk: 1600 Def: 1700)" The creepy doll reappeared with the same menacing look. "Now, Card of Safe Returns effect activates. Since a monster was special summoned from my graveyard, I get to draw one card." Another card appeared in front of Jinzo. "I summon Witch of the Black Forest in attack mode! (Atk: 1100 Def: 1200)" A witch with a third eyes on her forhead appears on the field. She wore dark black robes.
'Wait... is going to try that?' Red Hat thought.
"I play the spell card Creature Swap! With this card, both of us select a monster we control of our choice and we switch monsters. Since you only have one monster, you'll have to give it to me. In exchange, I'll give you my Witch of the Black Forest!" Both monsters soon swtiched sides.
"Tch, thought so." Red Hat cmmented.
"Battle, Breaker attack that Witch!" Breaker leaps forward and attacks Witch of the Black Forest, destroying her.
Red Hat & Blair: 7200 - 6700 LP
"Witch of the Black Forest effect now activates. Since it was sent to to the graveyard, I can add a monster with 1500 or less defense points from my deck to my hand. Guess who I plan to search." Jinzo said.
"Don't tell me..." Red hat muttered.
"That is correct." A card appeared in front of Jinzo and slowly turned the card for them to view. "I add Jinzo!"
'That's an old strategy I used to run before. The pro league outlawed the card due to the large card pool Witch can seach, unlike Sangan.' Red Hat thought.
"You're wide open, so Malice Doll of Demise attack him directly!" The doll threw it's axe at Red Hat. He groaned in pain as it passed right through him.
Red Hat & Blair: 6700 - 5100 LP
"I rather enjoyw watching you suffer rather than taking you all at once." Jinzo laughed.
"Red Hat, your legs! They're fading!" Blair yelled out.
Red Hat looked down and to his shock, his legs were holographic, just like most of Jinzo's body. "Not this!"
"The more life points the both of you lose, the more of your life force I'm taking and it feels good!" Jinzo explained
"Leave Blair alone, Jinzo!" Red Hat yelled.
"I think not, the both of you will be absored and I will be revived!"
Blair's legs started to shake at the thought of her disappearing. If they lose, does that mean they die? "Red Hat, what's going to happen to us?"
"Nothing Blair, we are going to win this duel." Red Hat assured her.
"You two are a pitiful bunch. I lay a facedown and end my turn." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 3
"Okay... no pressure. It's my turn, I draw!" Blair draws.
Hand 6
'It's out! Let's hope this works.' She thought as she continued. "I play the spell card Graceful Charity! So I draw three cards, then I discard two." Blair draws her cards and discards Silent Swordsman LV5 and Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer. "Come out my maiden, I summon Silent Magician LV4! (Atk: 1000 Def: 1000)" A young version of Silent Magician appears on the field. "Next I play the spell card Level up! With this I send Silent Magician LV4 to the graveyard to special summon her next form ignoring her summoning conditions! Appear my maiden, Silent Magician LV8! (Atk: 3500 Def: 1000)" The young version of Silent Magician soon began to glow and slowly grew up until she was a fully grown woman.
"Way to go, Blair. Show him you're no push over!" Red Hat cheered her on.
"Now I play the spell card Monster Reborn! With this I can special summon a monster from our graveyards. A Maiden always needs her knight in shinning armor! Or in this case, a swordsman. Appear Silent Swordsman LV5! (Atk: 2300 Def: 1000)" The swordsman appears onto the field.
"Keep trying girl. It won't change a thing." Jinzo said.
"Well see about that! Battle, Silent Swordsman attack that Breaker the Magical Warrior! Silent Sword Slash!" The swordsman charged in and swung it's sword at the spellcaster, slicing it two and destroying it.
Jinzo: 6100 - 5400 LP
"Now, Silent Magician attack his creepy doll! Silent Burning attack!" Silent Magican's staff glowed brightly and launched a powerful blast of white energy, burning and destroying the malice doll.
Jinzo: 5400 - 3500 LP
"With that out of the way I set one card facedown and end my turn." Blair ends her turn.
Hand 2
"You're only delying the inevitble mortal. It's my turn, draw!" Jinoz draws.
Hand 4
"I activate the continuus trap card Call of the Haunted! With this I can bring back Witch of the Black Forest!" Jinzo announced as the card was revealed.
"Oh no you don't! Go counter Trap, Seven Tools of the Bandit! By paying 1000 LP I can negate your trap card and destroy it!" Blair announces as various tools were thrown at the continuous trap and was destroyed.
Red Hat & Blair: 5100 - 4100 LP
"You're only delying the inevitible. I set a monster and facedown card. That ends my turn." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 2
"I won't let you push us around! It's my turn, I draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 5
"I'll activate the trap card, Crush Card Virus!" Jinzo announces as hsi trap was revealed.
"No, not that card!" Red Hat yelled out.
"Ha ha ha ha, By tributing a dark monster with 1000 or less attack points. All monsters on the field and your hand with 1500 or more attack points are destroyed! I'll tribute my facedown Sangan!" Sangan was revealed and soon exploded into many toxins that spread through out the field. As the toxins reached the monsters, they were son destroyed and it spread to Red Hat's hand.
'It will only effect my current hand, not Blair's, but still very devistating.' Red Hat thought as he showed Jinzo his hand before his exposed Zaborg and Kycoo the Ghost destroyer were destroyed.
"Your other three cards are Dark Hole, Ring of Destruction, and Metamorphosis. Don't think youll get a chance to use any of them." Jinzo noted. "Sangan effect now allows me to add a monster with 1500 or less attack points. So I'll add Spirit Reaper to my hand." Jinzo's card appears before going behind him. "Now, for the next three turns. Every card you draw during the draw phase, you have to show it to me. If it's a monster with 1500 or more attack points. It get's destroyed immediately!"
'The effect will last until Blair's second turn after activation. Still this will mean a lot of trouble.' Red Hat thought. "Tch, don't think I'll let you hand destruction me. I'll set three cards facedown and end my turn!" Red Hat ends his turn.
Hand 0
"It's my turn, I draw!" Jinzo draws.
Hand 4
"I play the spell card Heavy Storm! With this card, all spell and traps on the field are destroyed!" Powerful winds destroy the entire backrow of cards. Only this time Red Hat and blair could feel the strong winds.
'Argh, so much for that. Now I'm handless, which is worse.' Red Hat thought, standing strong from the wind. Blair however, struggled to stand firm.
"Now I summon the Spirit Reaper in attack mode! (Atk: 300 Def: 200)" A shadow began emerging in front of Jinzo. A reaper from underneath the ground, holding a scythe. "Battle, Spirit Reaper attack him directly!" The reaper disappears and reappears behind Red hat before it swung it's scythe at him. Red Hat yelpped at the sudden slash of the attack.
Red Hat & Blair: 4100 - 3800 LP
'That attack, even though the damage was small... I still felt that. Blair is in danger!' He thought, regaining his composure.
"His effect would activate, but you're handless so it doesn't matter. Turn end." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 2
"This can't be happening! My turn, I draw!" Blair draws.
Hand 3
"Let me take a look at the card your drawn!" Jinzo reminded her.
Blair turned her card around and was shown to be D.D. Assailant. 'There goes my chance for damage and maybe banishing that Jinzo.' She thought as her card was destroyed and sent to her graveyard.
"You are powerless girl. Accept your defeat now and I'll make this painless." Jinzo said.
"A maiden's power is stronger then you think. I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." Blair ends her turn.
Hand 1
"Very well, draw!" Jinzo draws.
Hand 3
"I'll tribute the Spirit Reaper to conjure..." The evil spirit laughed evily as one of his cards turned arund to reveal itself. "Jinzo! (Atk: 2400 Def: 1500)" The city's electricity from it's powerlines crackled as the spirit disappeared. Then, lightning struck the new card and its place, a figure rose with dark pink energy. When the light disappeared, Red Hat and Blair could see the him in his true form. Jinzo's body has become more real than holographic.
"No, you can't just draw yourself out!" Red Hat protesested.
"I just did! Now I can attack you two personally." Jinzo conjured a ball of energy. "Cyber Energy Shock, attack the girl directly!" He launched his attack at Blair. Blair screamed in pain after getting blasted bythe attack and dropped to her hands and knees, feeling weak.
Red Hat & Blair: 3800 - 1400 LP
"Blair!" Red Hat yelled out. 'No, the damage, it's too much!' He thought as more of Blair's body started fading. She still remained on her hands and knees.
"It's futile resisting me. Turn end." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 2
"Red Hat... I'm sorry... I tried..." Blair weezed.
"Don't say that! We'll get out us out of this!" Red Hat tried to assure her.
"You two are pitiful and I expected far more from you." Jinzo mocked.
"Grr, I'll make you pay for hurting her! I draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 1
"Let's see what your drew, he he he." Jinzo laughed.
Red Hat turns his card around and showed it was a Book of Moon. "Since it's not a monster I'm safe. I'll set it facedown and end my turn." Red Hat ends his turn.
Hand 0
"It's my turn, draw." Jinzo draws.
Hand 3
"I set this monster facedown. Battle, I'll attack you directly!" As Jinzo was about to conjure it's attack.
"I'll activate my facedown, Book of Moon! Now, you're forced into facedown defense position!" As Jinzo was about atack, his card was placed facedown. Although, he remained on the field.
"Placing me facedown won't mean a thing. Turn end." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 2
"Blair, are you okay?" Red Hat asked worryingly.
"Red Hat...do you think we can win?" Blair asked, doubting herself.
"We can win, Blair. We can't afford to lose this duel." Red Hat replied.
"What if I fail? I fail you and everyone." Blair said, slowly standing up despite still feeling a bit of pain from the last attack.
"Don't talk lke that, Blair. There's always a chance to come back from a situation like this." Red Hat clenched his fists tightly. "I was even put into such situation before, where my life was on the line. Don't give up, Blair."
"Enough of your sappy talk mortals! There is no escape!" Jinzo snapped.
"I won't quit. A maiden never quits. It's my turn, I draw!" Blair draws.
Hand 2
"Let me see what your card is." Jinzo reminded her.
Blair turns around her card and was shown to be D.D. Warrior. "D.D. Warrior only has 1200 attack points! So I get to keep the card. Now if you don't mind, I'l be summoning it right away! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1000)" D.D. Warrior appears onto the field. "I still have one more card to play. I play the continuous spell card Soul Absorption! Now, if a card get's banished we regain 500 LP for every card that get's banished each time."
Red Hat observed her play with a slight smile. 'I usually dislike life point gain cards. They do nothing cards, that don't advance the game state in the slightest. Guess you're doing this to play safe.' He thought.
"Battle, D.D. Warrior attack that facedown Jinzo!" The different dimension warrior attacks the set card, foring Jinzo to fight it off.
"Dare lay your hands on me?!" Jinzo yelled out as he took hold of the warrior by the neck, holding it in place.
Red Hat & Blair: 1400 - 1100 LP
"D.D. Warrior effect, when it attacks a monster or is attacked, both monsters get banished!" The different dimension warrior struggled a bit before stabbing Jinzo with it's sword as both of them disappear.
Red Hat & Blair: 1100 - 2100 LP
"Gah! You'll pay for this girl. Mark my words!" Jinzo sneered as a bit of life force was sucked out of him and returned to Red Hat and Blair. Parts of their body was being restored to normal.
'We are slowly gaining back life force? Is this cause we are recovering LP or is it because of Soul Aabsorption? Themes are werid in a shadow duel.' Red Hat thought.
"We'll see about that. I end my turn." Blair ends her turn.
Hand 0
"My turn, draw!" Jinzo draws.
Hand 3
"I flip summon Cyber Jar! (Atk: 900 Def: 900)" A mechanical Jar with a creepy face on the vizor appears. "It's effect now activates. First it self-destructs and destroys all monsters on the field. Then we both pick up 5 new cards. then, if any are level 4 or lower monsters, we can summon them in attack mode or face down defense position. Since it was you had the last turn, girl. You get the cards." Jinzo explained as Cyber Jar self-destructed, creating an explosion.
"I'll begin first girl. The first card, is none other then Malice Doll of Demise! I'll summon him in attack mode. (Atk: 1600 Def: 1700) Second card, this time it's spell card Graceful Charity. Third card, it's Reflect Bounder! I'll summon him in attack mode! (Atk: 1700 Def: 1000) Forth card, it's Emissary of the Afterlife! I'll summon him in attack mode! (Atk: 1600 Def: 800)" A fiendish reaper like creature with a black cloak, wielding a scythe floated next to the other monsters. "Fifth draw, and it's a monster known as Fusilier Drago, the Duel-Mode Beast. Since it's a level 7 monster he can't be summoned. Now it's your turn girly." Jinzo explained.
"Okay... no pressure. The first draw, it's the monster known as D.D. Assailant! I'll summon it in attack mode! (Atk: 1700 Def: 1600) Second draw, it's D.D. Warrior! I'll summon it in attack mode too! (Atk: 1200 Def: 1000) Third card, it's Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer! I'll summon him in attack mode too! (Atk: 1800 Def: 800) Forth card, it's the trap Bottomless Trap Hole! Fifth and final draw, it's a trap called Torrential Tribute!"
"I see know, you are trying to banish my monsters." Jinzo noted. "You can banish and recover your life points all you want. It won't change a thing. I play the spell Graceful Charity! So I draw 3 cards then I discard 2." Jinzo draws his cards and two of them, one of being his fusilier Dragon, were discarded. "Now I play the spell I just drew, called Monster Reborn. With this card, I bring back my Fusilier Dragon, the Duel-Mode Beast in attack mode! Since he was a special summoned, it keeps all of it's attack points! (Atk: 2800 Def: 2000)" A red tank designed like a dragon appeared on Jinzo's side of the field.
"This is going to hurt..." Blair muttered.
"It will for you mortal! Battle, Reflect Bounder attack that D.D. Assailant!" The machine launched a beam of light at the different dimension assailant. The assailant retaliated by swinging it's blade at the machine as both of them disappeared when their attacks collided.
Red Hat & Blair: 2100 - 3100 LP
"Now, Malice Doll of Demise, attack her D.D. Warrior! Cleaver Heaver!" The doll threw it's axe at the different dimension warrior. The warrior threw it's sword at the doll, and both of them disappeared.
Red Hat & Blair: 3100 - 2700 - 3700 LP
"Now, Fusilier Dragon attack that spellcaster!" The tank dragon fired various explosives at the spellcaster as it was destroyed.
Red Hat & Blair: 3700 - 2700 LP
"Last up, Emissary of the Afterlife attack the girl directly! Sickle Slasher!" The reaper raised it's scythe and disappeared, only for it to reappear behind Blair and slashed her from behind, causing her to cry out in pain and fall to her knees.
Red Hat & Blair: 2700 - 1100 LP
"That... it felt like I was actually slashed by an actual scythe..." Blair weakly said.
"The both of you suffering pleases me greatly. I'll set two cards face down and end my turn." Jinzo ends his turn.
Hand 2
"Red Hat... What are we going to do..." Blair said weakly.
Red Hat turned to glance at her. "Blair... what's your facedown..."
"It's a trap called D.D. Dynamite." Blair replied. "Why? You got something in mind?"
"Depending what I draw... we can win..." Red Hat said.
"What do you hope to accomplish by wishful thinking? Give up now and I'll make your death painless." Jinzo sneered.
Red Hat grited his teeth and clenched his fist in anger. "I refuse to lose! And I'll prove it here right now! BOKU NO TURN!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 1
"I play the spell Pot of Greed! So I draw 2 more cards!" Red Hat draws his cards. When he drew his second card, it sent a shock through his body. 'You... guess this means I'll have to use you again.' He thought, this time he wasn't taking any chances. "I banish Silent Magician LV8 and Breaker the Magical Warrior to special summon..." Soon multiple intense lightning blast struck the field hitting both Jinzo and Red Hat in the process. Red Hat ignored the pains of the lightning strikes. "Mighty chaos dragon from hell, unleash your deadly powers and bring total destruction to my foes! Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End! (Atk: 3000 Def: 2500)" The devistating chaos dragon descended from the clouds and let out a mighty roar.
Red Hat & Blair: 1100 - 2100 LP
"Impossible! How does a mortal like you control that dragon?!" Jinzo yelled out.
"I no longer care what this dragon symbolizes anymore! All I care about is destroying you for bringing harm to Blair! Ignition Priority, I activate Chaos Emperor Dragon's effect, I pay 1000 LP to send all cards on the field and in our hands to the graveyard! Then you take 300 burn damage for every card sent to the grave by his effect! That's 10 cards so that's 3000 burn damage!" Red Hat explained with anger.
Red Hat & Blair: 2100 - 1100 LP
"I'll chain my trap card! Go, D.D. Dynamite!" Blair called out, using the last of her strength to activate her trap. "With this card you take 300 burn damage for every one of your banished cards. You have 3 so that's 900 burn damage!" Soon Blair lost consciousness after activating her trap.
"In total that's 3900 LP of burn damage! More then enough to wipe you out! IT'S OVER JINZO! GO, ETERNAL CHAOS FLAMES!" As a warmwhole appeared above Jinzo. Dynamite dropped out of the portal and landed on Jinzo causing an explosion. Afterward, the chaos dragon launched powerful flames surrounding the entire field and burning everything, including itself before everything on fields were destroyed and cards were sent to the graves.
Jinzo: 3500 - 2600 - 0 LP
As the flames continued, electricity crackled around Jinzo's body before an explosion occured. "I WILL RETURN! MARK MY WORDS MORTALS!" Soon, a bright light appeared and engulfed the whole area, causing Red Hat to cry out and drop to his knees as he covered his eyes.
When Red Hat opened his eyes, he realized that once Jinzo disappeared. The barrier around them disappeared and the electricty of the entire city came back on. As he looked around he noticed many people were either scrambling or looking around to see what was going on. Many of the noise around the city assaulted his ears. Knowing most of the city returned to normal. Once he realized what happened, he immediately glanced at where Blair was. She still remained unconscious after the duel disk was turned off. As he tried to get up, he whinced in pain. Still feeling pain from the shadow duel.
"Blair... are you alright?" He called out and took a closer look at her. He realized she was still breathing, just unconscious. 'She's still breathing. I was worried for there for a second. She never did experiencea shadow game before, from a spirit or not.'
Soon enough people around the city began looking around the area. Wondering what cause said black out.
"I heard an explosion fron here." A woman said.
"There was also screaming." A man said.
"Were gangs attacking while everyone was busy?" Another asked.
'Crap!' Red Hat thought as his eyes widened in realization. 'If they find me and Blair like this. Things won't go well and raise more questions.'
Red Hat carried Blair in his arms, ignoring the pain he was feeling from the duel and quickly entered his home. Making sure to not just slam the door loudly and locked it. He made sure the curtains were completely closed before taking Blair to his rooom.
He entered his room and gently placed Blair on his bed. He made sure to remove her duel disk and remove her boots, placing the objects on the floor. He tucked Blair in with one of his blankets. After making sure she was okay turn off the lights to his room and locked his own door from the inside.
Once he got to the living room, he collapsed face front onto his couch. Feeling the fatigue from the all the pain he was enduring. 'I should have never brought her here. I should have let head back to her home...' He tought as he turned around and stared at the ceiling, with the kitchen light turned on. 'It's my fault Blair got injured like that...'
'That would be the least of your worries.' Aussa his duel spirit friend appered floating next to him.
'What do you mean?' He asked.
Aussa adjusted her glasses before narrowing her eyes at him. 'Despite you're friends injuries. What will her parents think about this situation. Let alone if you somehow do bring her back to her place, what will they say when they find her daughter in such a state.'
He lowered his hat to hide is shocked expression. She was right. He can't keep Blair here for long. The longer she stayed here the more worried her parents will be. If he took her to her home tomorrow, then that will raise questions on why Blair is very weak. Even if it was only for a short period of time before she fully recovers. While it took him a couple of days to fully heal after his first shadow duel. This wasn't the same thing for Blair, as she was never used to such encounters before. No matter what, unless he was very lucky. It's a lose lose scenario.
"I have no choice. I'll have to take her tomorrow and hope for the best. If I wind-up in trouble, so be it." He spoke up.
'Learn some responsibilty from this event okay.' As Aussa was about to leave, she turn to glance at him. 'I won't beat over your head. It's not your fault. You couldn't have known the spirit of Jinzo would ambush you and the girl like that. Take care and make sure she's well.'
"Okay... I'll make sure she's okay. That's a promise." He replied.
'Remember, learn from your mistakes. Don't repeat them.' As she said that, Aussa disappears into the spirit realm.
Red Hat continued to lay in his couch, thinking about his current predicament. He had no choice, he'll have to help Blair out tomorrow and take her back to her current home. If he got into trouble, then he'll just have to deal with what ever punishments he'll recive. He hoped it wouldn't be so bad, but he wasn't going to give his hopes up. If he was lucky, he'd find a way to around this. The more he thought about it, the more he felt like everything would come down to chance.
Red Hat would soon fall into a restless sleep on his couch. What he did know about all of this. It was not a happy summer, far from it.
A/N: This chapter's purpose was to spend more time with Blair and also for some further insight for Blair later on once we bgein season 3 and explore more of her character. In the anime she just reappears cause reasons. It's implied she snuck in with no context. While it says she was allowed to attend. They don't give much further insight as too how she skips grades. She just arrives with no fan fair. Also Blair doesn't duel at all until season 4 and it's... very questionable when she does. I feel like Blair's potential was wasted or forgotten in the anime as they put more focus on some the other and Jaden. So I plan to use Blair in many more scenarios, and not just adapt Tag Force scenarios. As that's not the purpose of this fan fic. Also side note, Blair's appearence right is is based on her duel links model. I'll say this now, I'm not a fan of Blair's duel links model. I don't know why they changed it from the tag force model but what ever. It's not something I'd lose sleep over.
P.S: Deck Profile for Blair is a mix of her Tag Force 1 deck when disguised and her Tag force 2 deck when you run a banned card in your deck. It's a D.D. Warrior Banishing deck with Kycoo and other cards. Was edited to keep with lore. Jinzo deck was based on multiple deck profiles and edited some more.
