"There is something amiss with your child, miss."

"What is so important that you dare seek to speak with her while she is recovering?"

The doctor handed him his son, wrapped in blankets.

"I have no idea what is wrong," he admitted. "But I think it is likely to raise some...concerns."

He smiled at the infant. "Just get to the point. What is the matter?"

"Davidonell...your son lacks arms."

"Alright. How is that an issue? Some persons are just born that way."

"But he still has hands."

Davidonell gave him a strange look. "That seems...impossible, no?"

"He has some sort of deformity. He is not expected to live to the age of one..."

He unwrapped the blankets a bit and gently grabbed the baby's hand. He pulled it up until he lifted the child a bit.

"They are still connected. He still has a possibility of survival, right?"

The doctor slowly shook his head.

"I actually expected something much worse. More...terrifying. This is nothing."

Sandrahara, when she finally heard the news, was not as accepting of it as Davidonell was. She denied the child.

"But, Sandra-"

"No! I do not want to loose him!"

"But abandonment-"

"At least I will not see him die! If he is going to die, why does it matter if he dies with us or not?"

"Because we are his parents, perhaps?! How could you be so heartless as to desire to leave him behind?!"

"Dimitri is just going to hold us back. The bandits are coming, and if we keep a lost cause child like you plan to do, we are to die anyways!"

Davidonell fought the urge to fight further, and sighed. "Do what you like. I am going to prepare, so I suppose he is not my concern anyhow."

"Davidonell..."

"I know fighting them will do no good. I am a lost cause already, Sandrahara; so any decisions about our son to be made, only matter by you." He exited.

She brushed the infant's hair. "What do I do? I do not want to see you die, but I do not want to abandon you because it really seems to upset Davidonell..."

She left later that night, a cloak concealing her identity. She held up a hand, a single finger outstretched. Dimitri started crying.

"What was that?" A guard nearby grew alert.

She quickly drew a large oval in the sky, a golden line following her finger. The line melted into itself, opening into a portal. The guards started coming closer, so she quickly hopped through it. She ran to an alleyway and gently lowered the child into a box at the end of the alley.

"Dimitri, I am so sorry, but I cannot handle the thought of your death." She placed a kiss on his head and went back to her homeworld.

A guard pointed a gun straight at her as soon as she passed through the portal, as it closed. "Where do you think you are headed at this time of night? Your kind are not allowed to leave the palace."

"My apologies, I-"

"No excuses." He motioned for her to move. "Where were you going with that portal, Midnite?"

"I was just simply tending to the garden I had left behind when you brought us here. I apologize. I could not bear the thought of it passing because of my absence. I have been sneaking out every night to care for it."

The other guard whispered to the first.

He huffed at her. "Show us your garden then."

"But, my dear guard, that is a private place. I cannot allow you entry."

"Those who defile the Queen's orders are to be killed. Show us the garden."

She shook her head. "I am sorry, but no! I cannot defile the secrecy of my gard-"

He shot her through the head. "It is always a shame when they decide to turn against the queen. Alas, it is our duty to keep them in order."

Dimitri was never found.
