Back at Uberta's castle, at the backyard, Derek and Alex were ready to do to some training practice. Along with them was Derek's best friend, Bromley. Alex got a good look at him. He was plump and average size, but also afraid of things like a small bug or a big wild animal. As Derek handed Alex a box and a green blindfold, Lord Rogers came with bucket of colored powder, but his face doesn't look too pleased.
"The musicians are not happy." Rogers spoke as he tried to pour orange powder on the arrows.
"I know, but I have to practice." the prince replied as he put the orange blindfold on him.
Alex did the same as he put the green one around his eyes. Back at his home, when the fairies were training to become the king's guards, he remembers how the trainers use that kind of training that involves blindfolding. Only they used swords instead of archery. But he does remember to wait and listen.
"Oh, no complaints here." Rogers sarcastically spoke as he tried to get the powder up until held the buck up to his face, "I think it's going to be loads of…" with one tap at the bottom, the powder puffed to his face. "...fun."
Alex, who just took a small peek from his blindfold, tries not laugh at the moment but kept a straight face.
"The Great Animal is never going to give her up without a fight." said Derek as he finished tying the blindfold.
"You're not still thinking she's alive?" Rogers questioned as he was wiping the powder off with his handkerchief.
"When I find the Great Animal, Rogers, I'll find Odette."
"And I will find my girlfriend as well." Alex spoke.
"Oh Derek, you've looked everywhere. She's not coming back. The whole kingdom knows it. And I specially don't know about this Maddie as well." said Rogers.
"The whole kingdom's wrong. Odette's alive, and I'm gonna find her. And Alex's girlfriend as well. You ready, Brom? Alex?"
"Ready." Alex answered.
"No peeking!" said Rogers as he saw Bromley lifting his blindfold, but the average man quickly put it back on. Rogers turned around and saw the musicians coming. "Animals, assemble!"
"Lord Rogers, I must object. We are musicians!" said one of the musicians.
"The servants have the day off. We have to use someone."
"But I'm an artist! Not a boar." the musician shouted.
"Could've fooled me." he muttered.
"C'mon guys, they're harmless." said Derek as he got his bow and an arrow ready.
Alex grabbed one of the arrows with green powder and stood his ground to be ready, but then heard the musicians began singing.
Musicians: We are a band
And not a band of animals
This masquerade
Musician (bear): Is more than I can bear
Musicians: There goes my reputation
It's awful, this humiliation
Musician (lion): And I've the lion's share
"Down on all fours, please, and growl ferociously!" said Rogers but then looked at the musicians as they were frowning. "Liven it up a bit! I want you to strike fear into my heart."
Suddenly, a small musician, dressed as a rabbit, roared so loudly that spooked Rogers.
"Not you, Wesley, you're a rabbit, for heaven's sake." he said, and the musician named Wesley tapped his foot.
Alex smiled a little as he imagined what that scene was like but focused as he stood his ground.
"Archers!" Rogers hollered as Derek, Alex, and Bromley got their arrows ready, and the musicians scattered around. "Ready, set, go!" he signaled as he pulled the blindfolds off.
Derek and Alex start aiming at the musicians, but Bromley felt dizzy as he was trying to aim. One by one, the prince and Alex aimed at the musicians with quick and patience. While the two were still shooting, Bromley looked up to see Wesley blowing raspberries at him. He tries to aim but his arrow fell and the rabbit laugh.
Derek aims at the three musicians and shoots the arrow going towards them.
"Duck!" the musician dressed as a fox shouted as he and the other two musicians went down.
"Yes!" said the musician, dress as the duck, as his head popped up but got hit with the arrow.
Alex aimed at one of the musicians. He fired his arrows at the musicians dressed as a lion, a boar, and a crane. This feels like a game but it's really training.
Bromley was chasing Wesley but quickly spotted him as the rabbit was laughing and waving at him. The average man shoots his arrow as it was going towards the rabbit, but Wesley had a mallet out and hit the arrow going straight to Bromley's face. Derek and Alex, on the other hand, kept targeting the musicians, especially at the duck musician.
'Felt bad for that guy.' Alex thought.
Derek kept on aiming and then came to the same three musicians from before.
"Duck!"
"What?" the duck musician popped out and then got hit by the arrow again.
Somewhere outside the castle grounds, a few courtiers were out having tea with Queen Uberta as they were watching Prince Derek training. The queen let out a sigh as she knew her son too well.
Courtiers: Day after day all the prince ever does
Is practice, practice, practice
Uberta: Thinking of her and the way that it was
Courtiers: Practice, practice, practice
As the queen took a sip from her tea, an arrow with orange powder zoomed out of nowhere and went past her, but the powder only hit her nose. Suddenly, the duck musician ran out of nowhere as he was jumping on the tables.
Duck Musician: (singing) He's not happy 'til he has attacked us
Derek and Alex kept on targeting at the musicians while Bromley tries to shoot at Wesley. While the musicians kept on running, Derek hit the duck musician again and somehow starts sliding and gliding towards the other musicians.
"Twelve seconds!" Rogers hollered as he held the hourglass.
Courtiers: Day after day all the prince ever does
Practice, practice, practice
Thinking of her and the way that it was
Practice, practice, practice
Bromley tries catching the rabbit musician, but Wesley smartly dodges from the arrows and dashed off from him.
"Five seconds!" Roger shouted.
Derek spotted Wesley as he was running. But when the musician noticed the prince, he quickly ran off as he went into the bushes before Derek shoots his arrow at him.
Musicians: If we had refused, he would have sacked us
So, we face a life of target
All: Practice, practice, practice
"Time!" Roger hollered. "Animals, assemble for counting."
The musicians started line up but in a slow pace. They were exhausted from running and felt beat from getting hit from all the arrows. While the musicians were lined up, Roger starts tally marking the counts of how many points for both Derek, Alex, and Bromley have scored.
"Aha! Very good, very good. You scored plenty of five pointers, that's for sure." said Rogers as he looked at them.
Suddenly, the ducked musician was knocked down to the ground as he was covered with orange and green powder.
"You alright, sir?" Alex spoke to the musician as he looked concern, but musician slowly nodded.
"Sorry, Hans. Why don't you take a few days off?" said Derek as he was wiping the powder off of the musician.
While Rogers was counting, Alex turned his head to see Bromley leaning against the tree, but he was also behind Wesley. To the fairy's shock, he saw the average man used his arrow and pounded the blue powder on the rabbit musician, both his shoulders and head.
"Moose are worth two points. Sixteen, it's a total of thirty-two. Ten seven pointers and fourteen three pointers, with a total of two hundred ninety-eight. Well, done, Derek! As you as well, Mr. Alex. Same score as the prince."
Alex smiled to himself as he felt proud on hearing that.
"Now Bromley, let's see, for you, and zero, and zero, and uh nothing, and nil and zip. And last but not least the elusive 100-point white rabbit!"
Lord Rogers looked at Wesley and was surprised to see some blue powder on him. Alex shook his head on that because that was cheating.
"I believe that's three hundred, Rogers."
"Good shooting, Brom." said Derek and Bromley looked proudly and then looks at Rogers.
"Well, write it down! Three hundred to two ninety-eight."
"Oh, but uh, wait just a moment, Rogers." said Derek. He looked at Wesley, telling him to turn and show them an orange spot under the tail. "Sorry, Brom."
"That's a real shot, Lord Rogers." Alex whispered to the valet. "I saw his aim. Bromley, however..."
Lord Rogers smiled deviously at Bromley and the average man chuckled nervously.
"You're a great marksman, Derek." Bromley spoke to Derek. "One of the best. But it takes more than good aim. It takes courage. That's my forte."
Rogers and Alex looked at each other for a moment and Alex shook his head but then saw the valet's sly smirk as he thought of an idea.
"Well, then. How about a quick round of catch-and-fire?"
Bromley got nervous by those words went behind Derek.
"C-c-c-c-c-c-catch-and-fire? You mean me?"
"You're the only one with enough c-c-c-c-c-c-c-courage." Rogers mocked and Bromley gulped.
Alex looked curious of hearing the words and looked at Derek.
"What is catch-and-fire?" he asked the prince.
"It's more of a prince thing. It's something that... my father taught me."
Alex nods his head a little. Of course, he did hear the word 'father' but pretty sure it's personal for the prince, but he does want to see the catch-and-fire move is.
Moments later, Alex was sitting on a small bench, watching Derek being ready as he was facing the opposite direction, while Lord Rogers was tying something on Bromley as he was wearing a suit of armor.
"Are you sure you'll alright?" Rogers asked as he was adjusting the knot, trying to keep an apple still.
"I'm fine. I-I'm fine." Bromley answered as he was still nervous. With one last knot the valet tied, it causes Bromley to choke. "Oh, too tight! Too tight!"
"Oh, whoops. So sorry." Rogers said with a smirk as he adjusted the knot a little.
"Ready?" Derek hollered from the distance.
"R-r-r-r…" Bromley muttered but Rogers interrupted.
"He's ready."
Alex continued watching as he saw the prince being ready in position while Roger was talking to Bromley.
"Remember now, aim for the heart. Right between the shoulders." the valet said and he puts the helmet on Bromley.
Derek stood still and wait while Bromley got his arrow out, but he was shaking.
"Oh please, oh please, oh please…" he begged.
Rogers looked at him and shook his head.
'He looks really nervous.' Alex thought and continued watching.
"Oh please, oh please, oh please… Now!" Bromley shouted as he shoots the arrow towards the prince.
Derek quickly turned and caught the arrow before it hit him. He fires it towards Bromley and hits the apple. It sliced in two as Rogers caught one of them. Now that it was over, Bromley fainted.
"Whoa..." that was all Alex could say as he was amazed by the move.
"Fifty-two out of fifty-two! Well, done, Derek!" Rogers shouted as he smiles and then walked towards to Bromley. "Extraordinary courage, man. Just think, one inch lower and that arrow would have…" he was about to finish his sentence until Bromley fainted which Rogers smiled.
Alex smirked and shook his head but then turned to see Derek looking at different direction. The fairy could see that there was hope in the prince's eyes and heard his words.
"Don't lose hope, Odette, wherever you are… I'm gonna find you."
With those words, Alex brought out the necklace out of his pocket and held it close to his chest.
"Hang in there, Maddie. I will find you." he spoke softly as he held it closer to him but didn't notice that the necklace was glowing a bit.
