Author's Note: Welcome back angels! Like I said at the end of the last one, I'll write a scene where Tong Yao is sick or something. Yeah I'll just start writing now. This continues the next day after the "Jealous Candy Addict" chapter.
Tong Yao POV:
I woke up to a pounding head as if a million bees had decided to nest inside there. I groaned as I attempted to sit up. My room was still a mess from the day before. My clothes were still the ones from last night, with the addition of my captain's coat. It seemed like I had flopped myself on the bed without a care in the world. I couldn't remember anything after we left the arcade. Carefully I stood up, grabbing the wall next to me. I went into the bathroom to wash up the smudged masterpiece on my face. Examining my hand, I saw it had three lines of sharpie on it. Oh. Scouring the closet, I found a nice white tee with a silly cat image on it and a pair of blue jeans to go along with it. I dumped last night's clothes and Lu Si Cheng's coat into the hamper before heading downstairs. I'll give it back once it's washed.
I treaded lightly down the stairs still rubbing my eyes as if I hadn't slept for ten hours just now. The others were surprisingly up already and playing ranked matches. Walking into the kitchen, I opened the fridge and spotted a yogurt drink. Pondering for a minute, I decided to take one and headed over to my seat at the computers. Fatty eyed the drink in my hands.
"Cheng-ge, you never let any of us even touch your yogurt drinks and she gets to drink a whole bottle? I'm feeling unloved," Fatty complained.
I glanced at Lu Si Cheng who was focused on the game.
"Rabbits need to be fed healthily." I pouted at his statement.
Turning back to my computer, I felt my nose tingling. Uh oh. I sneezed, causing everyone to pause and look at me.
"Tong Yao, are you sick?" Lao K questioned.
"Maybe? I thought all I had was a minor headache."
"How much did you drink?" Lu Si Cheng was now staring at me.
"Like two, perhaps three glasses of wine?" My voice was a little high-pitched now.
Lu Si Cheng immediately shut off his computer and headed to the kitchen. The rest of us glanced at each other. He returned with a pill and glass of water.
"Take this."
"Oh."
He eyed my bare arms, noticing the goosebumps on them. Removing his hoodie, he dropped it in my lap. I looked at him.
"Put it on."
Hesitantly, I slid it on. It was quite soft and very warm. I hadn't even realized I was cold. I saw the others were holding back laughter now.
"Cheng-ge, she still has to livestream. How will you two explain yourself to the fans?" Lu Yue said.
"We won't." Suddenly, he picked me up from my chair, throwing me over his shoulder.
"Cheng-ge put me down!"
"Nope. Xiao Rui cut her hours down for today. We can't have our mid be overworked."
"Of course Cheng-ge." Xiao Rui was staring at us with wide eyes.
In fact, everyone was, mouths agape with surprise. Cheng-ge climbed the stairs still carrying me and brought us into his room. Once inside, he carefully set me down at the end of the bed.
"Hold on." He searched through his closet drawers and brought out slipper socks with rabbit faces on them. I looked at him.
"A fan gifted them." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Ok fine, I bought them. Just put them on, please."
Pulling them on, I stood up and jumped a little. They were cushiony and soft on the feet.
"Okay now rest, I'll wake you up for lunchtime," He said dragging me back to the bed.
"But Leader I'm fine! It was just one sneeze," I pouted.
"One sneeze too much. Back to bed Tong Yao." He tucked me into his bed, making sure the blanket was up to my chin.
"Don't you think you're spoiling me too much?"
He leaned down to my face and I closed my eyes. I felt the soft touch of his lips on my forehead as he slightly lifted his head before saying, "I haven't even started yet."
I grumbled, but was internally screaming at this man. I had no clue that his cold aura had been hiding this person underneath. He ruffled my hair before dimming the lights and exiting the room. The velvet blanket was so comfy and his scent wrapped around me had me asleep in no time.
Lu Si Cheng POV:
I went back downstairs after making sure Tong Yao didn't need anything else. Spoiling her too much she says. Everyone turned to look at me as I reached the bottom of the stairs, stopping as I noticed the stares on me.
"Don't you all have live streams to do?"
"Xiao Rui canceled them for all of us as our mid is sick." Fatty wiggled his eyebrows.
"Truthfully, we don't want you two caught cuddling in the back of any of our live streams," Lu Yue snickered.
I threw my slipper at him.
"Since you all have nothing better to do, come help me." I walked into the kitchen, the sounds of their pattering footsteps following behind.
"Lao K and Lao Mao how about you two go get some groceries, preferably lots of fruits." They nodded, I paused for a second before handing them my black card. "Take this."
"Oh to be loved by Cheng-ge." I glared at Lu Yue.
"Lu Yue you can do the dishes as they pile up," God Ming said pointing at the sink with our plates from breakfast.
Lu Yue groaned, but still went to get started.
"Cheng-ge, what's the plan?" God Ming asked.
"First, chicken broth soup," I replied.
"You know how to make that?"
"Of course he does! You should be asking what he doesn't know how to do," Fatty exclaimed.
I'm starting to think my own team members were part of a fan club. I got started on the soup as God Ming helped cut the ingredients and Fatty passed them to me. Xiao Rui was on the phone explaining to our top and jungler duo what they should get. It was now nearly one in the afternoon and the pot on the stove was cooling down. I went to test the soup in it, making sure it wasn't too spicy for Shorty. Lao K and Lao Mao came back with a basket of fruit and lots of snacks for everyone, especially Tong Yao. Soon, the whole feast was done with soup and sides of fruit. Everyone was going to eat healthy today for our mid's sake.
"I'll go get Tong Yao you guys help God Ming set the table."
I climbed the stairs and went to my room, carefully pushing open the door. Tong Yao was fast asleep inside, her little snores tickling the air of the room. I shook her shoulder a little to wake her up.
"Tong Yao the soup is ready let's go."
"Hm."
"Tong Yao."
"Okay okay," she replied, but she flipped over facing away from me now.
"Tong Yao I know you're sick, but you can't not eat."
"Cheng-ge I don't have an appetite right now." I frowned.
Taking out my phone, I messaged Lao K to bring up a thermometer. I was still trying to have Tong Yao get up when the door knocked. Tong Yao straightened a bit, rubbing her eyes as I helped her sit up and told Lao K to come in.
"Come, let me check your fever."
Lao K handed me the thermometer as I had Tong Yao open her mouth. I placed the thermometer under her mouth as we waited for it to read. A few seconds later, tiny beeps arose from the device.
"101! Tong Yao you have a fever."
"Let's take you to the hospital," Lao K started saying before Tong Yao cut him off.
"Absolutely not. I'm completely fine I just need some rest."
"And food. Come down and eat or I'll drag you straight to the doctor."
Tong Yao grumbled, but slid out of bed while grabbing my arm for support.
"You should just carry her everywhere. Makes it easier on both of you," Lao K chuckled.
"Good idea." I scooped Tong Yao up princess-style as she squealed.
Lao K shook his head and walked ahead as I brought Tong Yao who was swinging her feet, clearly enjoying being in the air.
"Weren't you the one saying Cheng-ge can't fall in love with a human? Are you not a human?" Lu Yue said as I helped her settle in the chair next to me.
"Shush don't tease her. It was hard enough to get her to accept me." I glared at him.
I poured in soup for Tong Yao as everyone continued to tease us. Tong Yao's cheeks were tinged with a strawberry red. She looked adorable, just like a rabbit.
"You guys should be thankful that you can skip your livestream because of me. I could have more hours added too if I want." Tong Yao smiled.
Everyone froze.
"You two are really a match made in heaven," Fatty whispered.
"Eat the meal Shorty. I didn't bring you here to eat your teammates alive." I was very pleased with her threats, to be honest.
"Eat guys, Cheng-ge won't say no to anything Tong Yao says. Save yourselves by staying silent," Lao K said as he ate another bite.
"Cheng-ge the soup is really good by the way. You should teach me how to make it for my future wife," Lao Mao said.
"You made it?" Tong Yao looked at me.
"Of course! My brother spent all morning in the kitchen and had us all working as slaves." I glared at Lu Yue. "I mean as willing team members to make this meal for you." Lu Yue smiled nervously.
Tong Yao stared at me for a moment before giving me a peck on the cheek and happily continuing to drink her soup.
"You guys don't even pity us. Though there isn't a PDA rule you could at least have mercy on us singles," Xiao Rui said.
"Too bad." I shrugged, grinning at my girlfriend's antiques.
After lunch, we decided for dinner we'd just order in. Everyone helped clean up as I brought Tong Yao to the couch. God Ming cut up a plate of fruits for us that I fed to Tong Yao as we watched a movie. The rest continued on to disinfect the base of germs and then settled on playing Onmyoji Arena as there was nothing better to do. Tong Yao looked so cute as she kept her eyes glued forward to the screen and would just point and open her mouth for more fruit. Eventually, I noticed her eyes started drooping. Her head rested on my shoulder as I felt her breath even out and her snores return. Carefully adjusting her head onto a pillow, I pulled her legs up so she was laying comfortably on the couch. Lao K noticed and brought a blanket for her. I wouldn't have to worry about Tong Yao because the boys were like overprotective brothers so even if I wasn't here they'd make sure she's safe.
Over the next week, we had a constant watch over Tong Yao. She was constantly bundled up in blankets and given just about anything she asked for. All the hot chocolate she ever wanted and fruits that I fed to her nearly everyday. I had night duty to make sure she wasn't uncomfortable and had enough water by her side. I also made sure she took her pills on time as she wouldn't remember herself. One night she was being picky so I had to sneak it into her hot chocolate. Since I stayed up almost all night for the week the others kept day duty, splitting up the tasks and one person always near Tong Yao whether she was napping, eating, or playing games that we tried to stop her from, but realized it was pointless. To be fair, she was probably bored out of her mind.
I caught up on sleep as she napped during the day. Often times, we watched a movie or previous match of some team and fell asleep together, her head on my shoulder. By now, one of the members would just lay a blanket on us and go about their day. Lu Yue, though I hate to admit it, was particularly helpful. By day three everyone started live streaming excluding Tong Yao. I would catch up during the day when others were around as we weren't ready to reveal our relationship to the public. To keep it less suspicious, we switched around so not everyone live streamed at the same time. At most, two people would be on stream and they used the side computers to have the least amount of view into our base. Lu Yue was good at distracting the viewers. The public started questioning that Tong Yao was the only one not streaming so Lu Yue answered them.
"Our mid has been sick with a cold for the past week. You can't honestly expect us to force her to stream when she can barely eat"
"You guys are giving her special treatment because she's a girl. ZGDX is lowering the standards for the team because a weakling can't keep up," read one comment.
"If you guys think overworking members that will only make them more sick is going to help us win matches then start your own team and implement those methods. Our club has worked in the industry for years and knows what they're doing."
"Tong Yao will be out of shape for the next match. Lu Yue should replace her!" Another comment read.
"Look as much as I love being mid, I have to admit Tong Yao's playstyle is better for the team. I'm not going to steal her spot because she's having a little bit of a tough time. You guys can't say she'll be terrible at the next match, it's one week not one year. Besides, even sick our mid is dedicated and still training. You guys wish you were as good as her. Now stop commenting or I'll shut off the stream."
Obviously, the public had caught onto the hate train so Lu Yue shut off the live stream. Unfortunately, Tong Yao had overheard and was questioning her abilities once again. We all had to use a lot of persuasion and remind her how she got here in the first place to calm her down At the end up the week, Tong Yao's fever had subsided, but her mood was worse off. She spent all Saturday, nearly the whole 24 hours, playing matches. I had to scold her into going to bed and have her rest the next day too. Of course she didn't listen and with a little convincing where she used her Bambi-like eyes, I had to give in; However the sparkle in her eyes as she played the matches that day was worth it. In fact, we all noticed that somehow she had improved by just studying her notes while she was sick. The only thing I was worried about is that she was super nervous. All the effort I put in with the team to make sure she wasn't overworked was going to go down the drain because the media found a reason to attack her. She was already a target as a female e-sports player and the public was extra cruel with every thought towards her. We shut off the comments for her first live stream back and all deleted the apps off our phone.
"No looking until after you win the next match," Xiao Rui said.
"What if we don't win?" Tong Yao asked.
"Shorty don't think about it. We'll deal with it if and when it happens."
The next day, we arrived at the arena to play our opponents, FNC. Tong Yao was anxious and the commentators picked up on it, focusing a lot of their attention on her. Luckily, Jin Yang was one of them and worked hard to divert the discussion elsewhere. She only accepted the job to help protect Tong Yao from the public eye which I was grateful for. Our strategy was four-protect-one around our mid because we anticipated everyone to pick on our mid not knowing her growth in the past week. God Ming had us do this because when we studied the opponent's playstyle, the team would often push the mid, especially their jungler. They seem to excel when the other team had a weak mid and with all the rumors going around a weak mid is exactly what they were expecting.
We started playing and just as expected, FNC tried to gank our mid as soon as they could. The only issue for them was that we predicted this and instead started a team fight in the mid lane, wiping out their team. We won the first match pretty easily as Tong Yao started off with defensive farming and easily switched to offensive once she leveled up enough. The second match we picked early game Shikigami, making sure Tong Yao's was powerful in a solo fight. We knew they'd be more careful this time, but still would push the mid lane. Tong Yao was able to overpower the opponent mid early on and Lao K jumped in to help as the match went on. With luck on our side we won again.
"See, told you there was nothing to worry about," I told Tong Yao as I ruffled her hair.
She smiled as we went to shake hands. We were able to prove everyone wrong about our mid. I was proud of her and could spend my whole life protecting her if it meant I got to see her beautiful smile everyday.
The End.
That's enough for now. I may also be running out of ideas so do tell what I should add. I lowkey might start the separate story I thought for this show. My brother graduated like yesterday and I was really pushing the deadline with my assignments. Still am as the next are due tomorrow and I have yet to start. I need to volunteer tomorrow as well so yeah hopefully I wake up at a normal time. Anyways thanks for reading and I guess stay tuned for my brain to work.
