Song In This Chapter: Acceptable In The 80's by Calvin Harris
The next day, Shane came down to breakfast.
"Happy birthday, Shane!" everyone says. Shane saw the build-your-own breakfast table that was filled with different breakfast foods and smiled as he began to build his breakfast plate.
Everyone else soon began to get their plates as Garrett thought about basketball. He had a game today.
"Good luck with cheerleading today." Lucy tells Shane.
"Thanks." Shane says.
They arrive at the school and begin warming up. Luke was now stretching on a mat.
Garrett was working on basketball warmups with the team. The Golden Knights basketball team is currently undefeated. A loss today would break that streak.
Meanwhile, Lana was eating lunch a little early.
"Hey, Lana, what are you going to do when you grow up?" Lola asked.
Lana blushed, thinking of Skippy. "Still thinking." Lana says.
Lola sighed. "I'm heading to the Valentine's Day pageant sign-up. Luke announced his entry when everyone was asleep." Lola says.
"Why then?" Lana asked as Lola shrugged.
"I'm making a small comeback since I took a long break. Heck, I think the world stopped caring about pageants." Lola says.
(A/N- Angry9guy: A nice nod to how we haven't done a pageant in a while, but then again, I never really cared for them.)
Lucy was writing poems as she watched the game start.
Garrett played like a pro. "Let's go, Garrett, let's go!" Fans cheered.
"Come on, Golden Knights, grant our wish! All we want to hear is swish!" The Oakley Academy high school cheerleaders say.
Garrett made a slam dunk as the score went up to 32, the Oakley Academy Golden Knights leading over the Hazeltucky Herons 32-10. Melony hears this while spying and has a small smile.
"Lynn…" Lucy sighed, thinking of Lynn.
Meanwhile, Luna was practicing some music with Sam after her classes ended for the day.
"I need an 80's song. " Luna says.
"Shane really likes Summer Of '69, but we can perform that during the party. He already has a song for his entrance." Sam says before showing Luna the song Acceptable In The 80's by Calvin Harris, which is Shane's entrance song for later.
Soon Garrett made the game-winning basket and smiled.
"Good job, Luke and Shane!" A kid says.
"Way to go, Garrett!" Another kid says.
Melony cheered to herself and left as she used a device to teleport home.
"Garrett and the Oakley Academy team won. I knew they could do it." Melony says.
"How did you know about that?" Melissa asked.
"Easy, Luke was there so there were a lot of news crews recording Luke and Shane." Melony lied.
The team cheered for Garrett as he smiled.
After school, Lola goes to practice for pageants, but she was out of shape and fell over.
"I'm done." Lola huffed and went to get ready for Shane's party. Leni made everyone something with an 80's reference or theme.
They soon set things up. But the party wasn't for 4 hours.
Shane sat in his room as he thought about how this week had gone.
"Hey, Shane, apparently they want to interview you in 2 hours." Lucy says from the vents.
"A birthday interview for me?" Shane asked, grinning. "Is that what it is?"
She nods and takes him there.
The interviewer smiled as everyone was watching. Shane tried to smile more.
"So how has your birthweek been?" The interviewer asked
"Not perfect. Garrett's been trying to ruin it for me." Shane says. "We're in a movie together but he apparently wants to be in it. The movie is called A Galaxy Phantom Show and if there is a sequel, I'm pretty sure I will not attend. The movie is a musical, just like all my movies and stuff."
"Are you going to make another music video?" The interviewer asked.
"Probably not if it's related to this movie." Shane says. "I have others in the works, however."
"What would you want next year?" The interviewer asked.
"An opera show." Shane then shook his head. "And for my birthweek to just be better than this year's has been." Shane says, able to give that answer himself.
Lucy was stunned and goes to start planning that. After the interview, Lucy was giggling to herself. Shane knew she made him say that, and he was mad inside, but didn't show it.
Later, Shane tries shooting music attacks at Lana as they were training. Lana was dodging each attack.
"Shane, are we done now?" Lana asked tiredly as Shane had hit her.
"Now we are." he says.
Later, at the skating rink…
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's now time for the man of the hour to make his presence known! Presenting the birthday boy and the greatest singer, Shane Loud!" Luna says.
Everyone cheered as Shane came out roller skating to Acceptable In The 80's as girls screamed. He did a figure 8 as Penny faints in joy.
Soon, he finished as everyone cheered for him.
The party began with Shane and Sasha skating together. Luke skates with marcy who tripped badly and hit her head
"Marcy!" Anne and Sasha says and helps her up.
"Thanks." Marcy says.
Shane then skates with Penny.
Later, Penny gave him rocket skates as Shane smiled. But he didn't wear them.
Soon, the others were dancing as Lucy wrote poems based on the 80's.
Kat and Ana had a skating race.
Everyone had an 80's fashion showcase as Shane's costume looked the best. No phones were allowed until cake time.
Later, Luna performed a song for Shane, which was Summer Of '69 by Bryan Adams. Shane smiled. This was his favorite 80's song.
Something inside of Shane snapped after that when Garrett began to talk about the movie. And he was pretty sure Lucy made him tell the world he wanted an opera show just so she could finally plan what she wanted for him.
She's failing to realize that not everyone is into that the way she is. And Shane only liked it a little. The only opera that he ever got into was Carmen, and that was 8 years ago. Shane no longer liked opera. Broadway was his thing now.
Shane also knew Lucy tried to force an opera show on Luke, too. Luke only went to opera shows with her just to make her happy. He wasn't exactly into that, and only went to those with Lucy just to make her happy.
"Shane, what's wrong?' Leni asked
"I don't like opera shows and I was forced to tell the world that!" Shane says.
"Look, I have an idea." Leni says. She tells Luna to tell Lucy this.
"Shane, look, Lucy was really hurt when we told her that opera sucked, but you should just talk to her and tell her how you feel." Leni says.
"I AM NOT GRINNING AND BEARING IT FOR HER SAKE!" Shane screamed.
With Lucy, she canceled the opera party and walked out.
"Lucy?" Luna asked.
"Maybe I should accept my friends' offer. We're leaving in secret so we will not be disturbed, farewell." Lucy says.
Luna stopped her. "You can't leave. I'm sorry I ruined your first opera show and that Royal Woods hasn't gotten an opera show since, but it's part of life. You need to apologize. You can't force your likes and lifestyle on other people." Luna says.
"I'm so sorry. I just wanted to bond with one of you, but I have nothing in common with any of you." Lucy says and heads inside, then came out.
"I'm going to stay out here." Lucy says.
"Learn about what they like. Don't force them to like goth things and the things you like." Luna says.
"I don't like too much music like Luke or ice skating or any normal stuff." Lucy says.
"Not everyone wants to do goth things for their special days. Not even me." Luna says. "Shane can see you forced him to tell the world he wanted an opera show for his 18th birthweek when it was clear he was trying to answer that question for himself."
"I think I should live somewhere else. I really have nothing to gain. I'm an outcast in my own family. Face it, you're all scared of my real appearance." Lucy says.
"None of us are scared of you, Luce-Change. We're scared of the goth lifestyle. We don't mind the poetry, but please, just learn to like other things, too. You don't have to get into these things, but at least try the stuff for our sakes, okay?" Luna says.
Lucy nods as Luna begins to lift her bangs up. "Now, show Shane you're sorry." Luna says as Lucy walked up to Shane.
"Shane, I'm really sorry for trying to turn you into me. I screwed up your interview. It was me. I made you say that." Lucy says.
"My birthweek is ruined. It's been ruined for days!" Shane tearfully ran off as Lucy sighed.
"He's been upset since the week started, Luce. Don't blame yourself, okay?" Luna says.
"They're laughing." Lucy sobbed. Luna gave everyone a death glare and began to speak. The laughing stopped immediately.
"Leave her alone!" Luna says and ran after Shane.
"Hey, Shane, look, some bad things happened, sure, but think back to the good moments of this week, like the fun parties and your birthday cakes, and getting to try a game you invented." Luna says.
"Right now, it makes no difference how good my parties and cakes were!" Shane sobbed.
Luna holds him. "Next year, I promise it will be perfect. Lucy won't plan your parties" Luna says.
Shane just stood up and walked to the limo as he sat inside it. Luna went into the rink and decided to tell everyone about this.
Charity gasped and went to find him. Garrett felt guilty. That movie and loss ruined Shane's week. No matter what they did, Shane would only remember the loss.
"Why not make a highlight reel of his best moments and get the galaxy movie canceled?" Leni suggested.
Shane sobbed in the limo as Lance and Sharon held him.
"I can't believe Garrett ruined your week. That rotten brat." Lance says.
"Saturday, it will be about you to make up for the week you've had, baby." Sharon tells Shane.
"I'm packing as soon as we get home! I'm moving back to Petoskey Falls, where my birthdays were amazing!" Shane cried. "While I had amazing cakes and parties this week, the days themselves were completely disappointing!"
Mugman plans Edric and Emira's birthday as they were born on the same day.
"Do you want your cake?" Sharon asked Shane.
"We can cut your cake and then go home if you want, son." Lance tells Shane.
He sniffs and nods as they go back in.
"Luke, after this, we're going." Shane says as Lucy collapses in the vents. Luke nodded, understanding that Shane's been through a lot.
Stephen soon shows the cake he baked as Penny felt bad for Shane. Shane smiled at the 5-tiered 80's culture-themed cake Stephen made, taking a picture of it for his book of memorable cakes.
The cake said Totally Tubular! Shane Loud Is 17! in neon yellow and blue icing. The neon-colored candles adorned the cake with their colorful flames to match them.
Leni lit the candles as everyone sang to him. Shane was smiling for the sake of his guests and his friends. His parents and siblings were happy for him, but felt bad for him at the same time.
He made a wish for his final day to be good. He then blew out the candles, took some cake, and left with his family.
Later, Lucy came out of the vents. She walked home, pretty blurry but She saw a car leave, then walks past her crying siblings.
"I think the sibling count needs to go down. Sic her!' Lola says, pointing at Lucy.
"You said it yourself. The biggest mistake you can make is ruin Luke or Shane's party." Lana says.
Charity grabbed the twins and ended up sitting the whole family, except for Luna, Shane, and his siblings, down in the living room. The family was met with not only Charity's angry glare, but also Sharon and Lance's disapproving looks. Sharon then began to speak.
"How could you do all that to Shane?" Sharon says.
"Shane has had a horrible birthweek." Sharon says. "The parties may have been good, but something always seems to spoil the celebration beforehand. And this whole movie thing you kept talking up all week? Well, that didn't make things better."
"Now he threatened to move right back to Petoskey Falls because of all this." Lance says.
They look down in shame.
"What do you all have to say for yourselves?" Lance asked.
"We didn't talk about the movie." Lucy says.
Penny was upstairs with Shane, consoling him.
"I want a better family." he sniffed as Penny held him.
