As they entered the home of the royal family, Naruto and Sasuke were given a vast and detailed tour of the city where the Amazon people lived and even the different parts of the palace. Naruto's mother wanted her son to be familiar with everything in the palace and feel at home. Sasuke on the other hand kept the tour his mother asked just for the sheer essentials, no sightseeing, only asking what to see only the places he would ever actually need.
His mother asked her son why? He simply told her that he knew she was busy, that the duties that she must fulfill are both important and vast, and as such he did not want to put his own curiosity ahead of the needs of so many people. Any other woman would simply suspect that her adoptive son simply did not care about her at all and that he chose to spend as little time as possible with her, but in a sort of surprise, she was quite impressed by her adoptive son's forward-thinking, and his understanding of her duties, so she promised that from time to time, she would take him to see those places, and give him a detailed tour of them, whenever she had some free time, and when he was not training to become one of the future defenders of the island and their people.
"Of course, Mother, we live to protect the lives of the innocent citizens and to promote their prosperity and ensure that they can lead happy lives, Noblesse Oblige. The duty of those considered to be noble is to look out for the well-being of those who are not as well off as themselves." She was very impressed and she immediately began to ask his tutor to put extra effort to make sure her son was given the proper education not of just a warrior for the Amazons, but a leader, since she noticed that thanks to his forward-thinking there could be a time when her son would be told to lead a group of amazons to undergo a mission, a mission she knew her son would complete and never allow himself to fail.
She of course was wrong, there is a reason why he would allow himself to fail a quest, and that is to either save the lives of innocent people or to prevent the death of someone he considers precious. To most children the training was horrible, and the demands and expectations they had to meet were akin to Spartan training, no excuses were accepted, and no words were good enough to try and get off from doing something. The training consisted of harsh physical training, followed by a lecture on one of many different topics, ranging from medicine to strategy, and the last part was learning to use one of the traditional weapons Amazons used, a spear, a mace, a bow, and finally a sword and shield.
Naruto took to the spear, and the sword quite easily, while Sasuke took a much better interest in the bow. Naruto simply attributed this to the fact that his eyes provided him with an extra clear sight that helped his accuracy. All of the training was not anything that difficult compared to what they did as ninjas, which made the other students both impressed and attributed to wanting to impress their mothers. For the next few months, the tutors were very happy with how their charges were taking on their lessons, and seeing that they were having such an easy time, decided to make the lessons more detailed, and thus more difficult.
One of the instructors was drinking some wine as they ate their meal in their home, and he could not help to think that the young prince was such an overachiever, that if Jason was not careful, his mother might decide to offer Naruto the chance to be her successor to the throne. The stories of their dedication and hard work however were not able to be kept within the castle or the training grounds, people began to hear more and more of how impressive the queen's youngest son, and his cousin were, earning him much appreciation and admiration by the other amazon who live on the island. During those times that his mother had some free time, Sasuke asked if they could build a place where they could store printed materials, to actually allow everyone to come in, and learn from these scrolls and books, she did mention that the island did have a library, but he was right, only people who worked for the royal family had access, this was not done out of discrimination, but rather to keep these precious scrolls and books safe, since replacing them was not easy, scribes had written these by hand after all.
Sasuke quickly mentioned a nation in the east, it was a nation that had invented something that would help to make and print those books a lot easier and cheaper, they used metal pieces on a flat wooden surface, arranged to form a text, and then used ink on the top of those metal pieces, each either a letter, a sign, and when a piece of paper was pressed on those inked pieces of metal, the words would be pressed into that paper thanks to the ink, thus making more books and scrolls could be done easier and faster than writing them by hand, the people who invented that called it a printing press. He just happened to know how to make one of these, and how to use these metal pieces, but it would require a blacksmith and an artisan of great skill to make those metal pieces. His mother nodded her head if they could make several of these books, there was no need to keep them from the general public, and giving them access could inspire and even help improve the skills of their people, Sasuke simply said that an education public means a productive citizenry and an active economy, thus people would have the means to provide better for their families.
Naruto on the other hand would spend his free time teaching the palace cooks about new ways to preserve and store food, different things that made food healthier and easier to keep from spoiling, the main understanding is that Amazons were just warriors, but the fact that most people didn't know is that they also had mages, he asked one of the palace mages to help him cover a room with water and then freeze it, the room felt like they were in the middle of a blizzard during winter. Fruits, Vegetables, and Milk were things that simply spoil easily, or that was the case before Naruto asked the mage to create something he called the Freezer room, placing food there made it last longer, and thanks to the different preservation methods he taught them, food lasted longer, which means they had to throw away even less food.
The thing is the palace mage who helped Naruto, saw the benefits of what the youngest prince had developed, and he inspired did the same thing for his own home, and sure enough soon enough people wanted one in their own homes, it took several months, and the artisans and enchanter came up with a way to store a high-level freezing spell inside a crystal, and that spell would keep the water inside the freezer room from melting, by slowly releasing the spell over time, the fact they could keep food longer revolutionized the food options for everyone, and people who cook as a business used this to innovate and increase the culinary choices for those that live on the island, some even rumored that the Olympic Gods were coming down to the island to actually enjoy some of the food that they now had.
The man who developed the refrigerator asked him if this was nothing more than a normal fridge, he told him that thanks to using seals, the freezer room or even the freezer he made had one feature that apparently this man did not notice, every item placed within either the freezer room or the freezer each had a specific temperature that is best to keep the food from going bad or spoiling, each food item is kept at the perfect temperature rather than every item simply being kept at freezing temperatures. Sasuke was asked how was the thing he wanted to make any different than a normal printing press or even a printer.
Sasuke looked at the scribe and immediately told her what was special about it, the machine he wanted to develop and construct, is automatic, and it is linked to the person who operates it, if any new knowledge is acquired or if the person learns of the mere existence of new knowledge, the printer Sasuke wanted to develop will make a book about that knew knowledge, even go as far as to print books about things that were mistakenly known, this would allow them to perfect their knowledge and thus perfect their learning. The fact is he developed this to make it cheaper, and easier, and make knowledge more available to the people of the realm, Sasuke wanted to correct the misunderstood knowledge and to promote a new age of learning and cultural development for the benefit of all the people within their realm. His only remark was that knowledge is power, that will be needed to remain strong to fight and defend against possible invaders.
As Naruto and Sasuke sat down and began to eat a small snack they looked around them, "Still can't believe it, mom and your mom decided to basically call everyone to the arena, and what did they do? Introduced us as their new adopted children, honestly, I have never been more embarrassed in my entire life." Sasuke looked at Naruto and mentioned that was not true at all, he was embarrassed when he first realized how pretty Hinata was when she actually wore clothes that were better for her, instead of that hooded jacket that hid how she looked. Naruto had to admit that her declaration of love was also embarrassing but that is nothing compared to the fact that the Queen basically introduced him as her youngest son, and everyone just immediately accepted that with little to no complaints about it.
"It sure didn't help that Diana began to call me her little brother, and she has not let me have a single moment alone, honestly, when I developed that Freezer Room, I figured that she would not be interested, but nope, there she was," Sasuke told him that it was only a couple of weeks, she is young, the novelty of the situation is bound to wear off and eventually they will just consider it normal. Naruto said young is not the word he would use, she is over three hundred and seventeen years old, and yet she still behaves no better than a teenager.
Sasuke seeing that this was not going to be a good topic decided to say something, "Hey, at the very least the new locks on your room door work, and you can sleep, I mean when we got here you complained that she would sneak into your bed every single night. Still, I don't see why you complain about it, you don't see me complain if a beautiful young woman wants to hold me tenderly as I sleep." Naruto complained that he could only say that because he was not being suffocated, by having his face constantly pressed between her tits, he could hardly breathe sometimes, it was only when their mother told Diana that he was turning a little blue that she would stop.
Sasuke went to a local shop to begin to try and improve the now-called magical printer, Io was a large muscular woman and, expert blacksmith and it was thanks to her metalwork that the first printer was completed, however from the sound of her hammer hitting metal ore told Sasuke that she was still unhappy about something, she was complaining that Diana has not visited her in so long. Sasuke immediately understood why she was having such a foul mood, "Io, you only got yourself to blame, either tell Diana you like her or don't blame her for finding someone to be romantic with. You need to stop dragging your feet and be honest about your feelings, if she does not feel the same, at least you will know and be able to think of finding someone who does, I know you are smart enough to know this is something you need to do. You would tell me the same thing if I had the same problem."
She looked almost upset by that comment, she put down her hammer and asked what the hell does he even know of romance. He is far too young to even interested in girls, much less know about romance, and what it takes to actually make a relationship work. Sasuke could not help but laugh when he heard this, pulling the old you are too young to know anything card. It was apparently something that is used by people regardless of cultural differences, and even throughout the ages. He looked at her and with a serious look that caught her by surprise he walked up to her with the determination and grit of one that was beyond his apparent youth. "I may look young, but I have lived for decades, and I have the experience of such, I do know romance, I do know how difficult and perilous a relationship is, and I know marriage is not all hugs and kisses, I have the memories of being a husband, a lover, and a father, I had a wonderful wife, a relationship built on trust and mutual respect, and a daughter who was my precious little girl. "
He looked at her, "A relationship is akin to a battle, always fighting each other for dominance, to say who is the one who makes the decisions in their lives, you can fight them on every single decision, and it will only lead to resentment and bitter hate where there was once love, or you can work together for the benefit of both, neither in complete control, rather everything is dealt diplomatically, a couple working together for the good of not only themselves but their family. When it comes to diplomacy honesty is the best policy, so that is why I told you, to tell her your feelings, express your romantic interests, and if she feels the same way, good, but if she does not, you must accept that and realize that forcing a relationship will only end in disaster, and think if there is someone interested in you, that you never even noticed."
Io asked him did he ever told his wife that when they started their relationship, "At the time my entire family, my clan, was massacred, I was so hurt and angry over what had happened I focused on making the people that did that pay, revenge was my only goal, and if I am being honest I became obsessed with achieving that, I cared for little who I hurt, or what I had to do, my desire for revenge was all-consuming. I was not even aware my future wife truly loved me. Had I been honest about my feelings, my goals, and my desires, and told her this, she could have helped me see what I could or would not. So many tragedies in my life could have been avoided. This is why I tell you to be honest about your feelings or end up like I once did."
Io never expected to hear this from someone as young as Sasuke was, she decided to switch topics and asked him why was he so interested in that device, that printing press he had been working to develop, Sasuke told her knowledge promotes understanding, and when people understand each other, it forms a path to a peaceful life. Ignorance is a disease, it spreads when people least expect it, and the only cure is knowledge. This made her realize that she knew next to nothing about Sasuke or Naruto, she only knew they were adopted by the Queen and her sister, but she actually knew nothing more.
"Why is Naruto so focused on food preservation, and increasing food quality and quantity? He even went to ask a favor from the court mage, someone people tend to avoid talking to unless they really have to." Sasuke looked at her and smiled, as he told her Naruto's childhood was not what some would call easy, he was discriminated against from early on in his childhood, for something he had little choice or control over, people used to deny him things, from food to clothes and even medical treatment, his only refuge, the only place he could obtain food from was a humble ramen place, as a result, he knows the pain of hunger, he knows the damage malnutrition can cause, so the device and room he wanted to make, were to help people never have to go through the same hunger that he did.
"It would not be shocking that later he starts to do something to help grow more crops, or even help raise more variety of animals, he is a foodie for certain, and to him eating a delicious meal, with those he considers precious is his treasure," Io asked him why would Naruto feel like that, Sasuke merely explained once again, he was an orphan, his mother and father both died the same day he was born, the village where he was born was attacked by an extremely powerful monster that they called a Tailed beast, the high the number of tails the more powerful the monster was, and the one that attacked was the highest, the nine tails, this being was a being of pure energy, so no weapon could have any effect on it, so the only choice was to use the power of seals and seal it inside the body of a newborn baby.
"Naruto was just born, but to achieve that his father fought and sealed him inside Naruto, which caused his death, but the tragic thing is the tailed beast was under the control of someone else, and years later, Naruto actually came to learn the truth, and eventually became good friends with her. When taking physical form she would take the form of a stunning nine tails vixen you see. Her name is Kurama, and chances are she is still inside Naruto as we speak." To the blacksmith, this sounded like something straight out of a fiction novel.
"So to Naruto family is the most important thing there is, and now that he has a family again, with his mother, and all of his sisters, I can only imagine that Naruto is going to be very happy living and sharing the many joys of being in a family, such as sharing a meal, and forming delightful family memories. My parents were both killed, so I can understand what Naruto feels. I hope this helps you understand him a little better." Io thanked him for the explanation, and she promised that if any other Amazon asked questions about Naruto or himself, she would do her best to make sure that they understood and thus avoid any misunderstandings.
Naruto at that time was, in fact, doing exactly what Sasuke said he was going to do, he was actually seeing up a rather large building, using glass as part of the main component used for the siding of the walls, he called it a greenhouse, which would allow their people to grow crops year around, since thanks to the greenhouse they could control the conditions within, and thus be able to plant any crop they wanted. He initially wanted to use it to add more crops that the people could plant, and at some point, he planned to plant medicinal plants. Thanks to the greenhouse and smart use of magic, the island could in theory become absolutely self-sufficient.
The other thing he wanted to improve was the mines, he wanted to make them safer, and more efficient than they currently were. So for three weeks he went into the local mines and began to reinforce and repair everything down the mining shaft, even building what essentially would be called an elevator to reach lower mining shafts. Some of the rails needed to be replaced, but instead, he used a skill to repair them to perfect condition, and this alone saved him a lot of time. It was heavy work nevertheless, so it technically did count as a physical exercise.
For months Naruto and Sasuke kept up with the lessons and training their tutors had them do, but still had enough energy to do so much more for the benefit of the people of their island home, their dedication and hard work were inspiring, and many of the Amazons who saw them, they were quite outspoken in the fact that they simply saw the two as two young man who would make any mother proud. Fishing was never a nice hobby for any of the people on the island, the waters were protected by some of the largest and most vicious sharks the world had ever known of, some called them Megladons, and these monsters kept the waters around the island safe.
That did not stop Naruto from actually diving in the water and actually getting some rather tasty fish for his mother's birthday, she had never heard of this thing called Sashimi, so Naruto being the ever loving son, decided to catch a few fish, and prepare something for his mother that she had never tasted before. He planned something typical, Tuna fish, it was something he was fairly familiar with doing, thanks to the books his mother left him in a storage scroll, in the old Uzumaki Family Compound. The only problem he had was that these fish were not exactly small, they were bigger than some fishing boats, had he not been able to use his inventory, he would have had some real trouble getting all those large tunas out of the ocean, his concealment skill worked like a charm, none of the large sharks in the area had a clue that he was swimming or fishing in their waters.
He had perfected this fishing technique long ago, and thanks to that, Queen Hippolyta was surprised to find some things she had never seen before at the banquet table for her birthday celebration. When asking the royal chef, she simply smiled and said that those dishes were made by Prince Naruto and he had explained that he wanted to give his mother a chance to enjoy something she had never tasted before. Sasuke was not happy about this at all, not that he didn't believe his Aunt deserved such a treat, it was more on the fact that he would have to do something as good or even better for his own mother's birthday, and he only had a month to do so.
The party was a happy occasion and Diana could not be more proud of her baby brother, hugging him throughout the party every chance she got. "Thanks a lot, Naruto, now that you did this, I am going to have to do something as good, or else mom will think I don't care about her as much as you care about yours. You wanted to do this as a treat for the Queen, and I got it, but you unintentionally put me in a spot." Naruto suggested why not make something his mother also had not seen, he could even be easier, a cake, some ice cream, and maybe a pizza or two, all those were foods that nobody on the island had ever seen before.
Sasuke told him that would not work at all, he had to do something spectacular, something that showed his mother how much he cared about her and his wish for her happiness. The only thing he could do was get some metals from the game store using his gamer powers and ask Io to make a spear for his mother, she had broken hers a few weeks ago during their last sparring match, so in the end Sasuke figured that making a more durable and lighter spear for his mother would be a good enough of a birthday present.
This is how Naruto and Sasuke became so admired and respected on the island they now called home, their actions to help improve the lives of the common citizen made them truly admirable, their dedication to training made them inspiring, and their devotion to family, made them both quite the example for the youths of that island to try and emulate.
