Break break break (Continued from point before)
"You're late." Luitwin said with frustration.
Queenie had apparated them to the Nurmengard castle by the forest next to it. Fleur and a now semi conscious Harry looked at the interaction with fascination. Fleur whispered to him where they were and what had happened as Queenie talked. "Spell hit the Boy as planned. He didn't dodge. He had some side effects. Do we still have time, you reassured me no one at the station could do a corporeal patronus." Queenie said with some frustration at being questioned.
Luitwin responded. "Yes. But it's been over 2 hours. I can only offer you 30 min. German and Austrian forces are coming in. It's only your instance to bring an extra 50 Lethifolds that has bought you the time. The bloodshed. Hundreds."
Queenie raised an eyebrow. "Are you losing faith in the cause? We do this in preparation for a better future. For or the greater good Luitwin."
Luitwin sneered. "I have been at this for over 10 years, do not act like I am not dedicated. You have only rejoined in the past month, but it's always for the Greater good. Go. I shall take charge of the forces. The plan to hide our involvement and make it look like the British dark lord's men did this is going well." The man apparated away.
Queenie looked away in frustration and began walking to the castle. Harry spoke up as he leaned on Fleur who helped him walk. "Grindelwalds lap dog. I suppose even a Dark Lady follows someone in the end."
Queenie turned to him and looked him in the eye. Harry tried to look away, but couldn't due to his exhaustion. "I am not reading your mind Harry. I am not his lap dog. I am his left hand. I was his information gatherer for over 5 years. I made sure his growing army stayed in line before the war."
Harry decided to look at her with a smile of satisfaction at getting something out of her. "Then why does history not remember you as such?"
Queenie smirked and continued walking as the teens followed her. "What is easier to believe about the story, Harry? That one MAN almost took over the world or that two WOMEN had a hand in it? I feel we both know many in our world would say one MAN did it." Harry's smile broke down. Queenie continued. "Your story is the same, no? One baby BOY killed the dark lord, not his MOTHER who more than likely outsmarted the dark lard. Ironic no? Even the women around you can easily be written out at your behest when it's all over. If you're alive that is. "
Queenie turned around again and continued walking. "I also had a hand in writing my story, I asked to be written out, a luxury many individuals do not have. The Veela for example could have it if she stays in your circle." Fleur looked surprised that she was included. Queenie hadn't stopped. "Sheda as well and the Greengrass girl as well. Maybe the muggleborn, but you have a complicated relationship currently, no? They will all get the chance but only because they were so close to actual greatness in the eyes of the traditional wizard world."
Harry looked at her with slight anger and frustration; seeing she had a point. It reminded him of the issues of House etiquette and titles. It was clear being a Lord meant more than a Lady. "I will change it. I will bring the wizarding world kicking and screaming if I have to. Remove the ideas of a Lord and ladies and all this shite. "
Queenie smiled as she looked at him. "Maybe he was right. That is why we are all here. For you Harry."
Harry looked confused. "What do you mean for me?"
Queenie pouted. "Do you know why I joined Grindelwald?"
Fleur spoke up. "I researched you. You joined him because MACUSA had a law banning muggle and wizard/witch relations."
Queenie looked confused, but honored. "Research? about me? Now why would you do that? Not many would go looking for information about me."
Fleur blushed and stammered a response knowing she could just read her mind. "I wanted to know if dark ladies existed when I was a younger girl. You and Vinda Rosier were the closest ones that fit the bill recently according to some. You both led portions of his army and were fairly independent but many didn't consider it. Some of your accomplishments were written out of the most popular texts. I had to go looking for them. Mainly in the restricted section at Beauxbatons, we have books donated by the families right after the war. " Fleur continued, a small part of her in awe of meeting a secret childhood hero/villain.
"You brought magical China to its knees almost all by yourself. I went looking because I had experienced prejudice for being a Veela when I matured. I had a stupid fantasy of being a femme fatale dark lady like you who made men and women bend over backwards to please her. Using their own mind against them. I liked the way you acted more than Rosier even though she was French. You seemed more modest, calculated , and cunning. She was more cruel, abrasive, and arrogant. I kinda was in awe of a witch like you could exist, a lot of complexity." Fleur looked down and away from Harry although she still held him up.
Harry smirked at her expense. No wonder her pride was becoming too large, she held up a dark lady on a pedestal secretly.
Queenie smiled deviously, but wondered where Rosier was. Would she be brought into the fold? The woman was the right hand of Grindelwald. She was still alive and as much as she hated it the woman was instrumental in many of Grindelwalds plans. She would have to review this later and decided to tease the teens.
"I support her being a dark lady. Don't you Harry? I think you should both remember this when you start doing certain activities. It will keep Harry humble and allow Fleur to have her fantasy of being a controlling witch. I already see she has you wrapped around her fingers, why not her legs as well?" Queenie turned around with an evil smirk, her free spirit and mental unhingness shining through at the extremely red and bothered teens. She didn't need to read their minds to know the thoughts she had given them. They continued walking and suspiciously Harry had been pulled in closer to Fleur.
Young love, Queenie thought. Many never realized how quick it could happen. She remembered how quick she had fallen for Jacob and smiled. "Everyone should experience love regardless of the circumstances put on them." She whispered to herself.
Queenie reminisced the strong arming she had to do to get Rappaport's law repealed. Although no bloodshed, it required years of blackmail to do so. She knew the president at the time knew what she had done, but she was too valuable as Director of the CMI. Even now MACUSA supported these actions. If Voldemort truly found a way to come back they would need many minds to figure out how he did it. Magic like that shouldn't exist or be given out.
Break break break
Fleur and Harry were not sure what to expect walking into the castle. Feeling the magic drain from him he focused on the runes all over the building. Each brick had runes ranging from protection runes, unbreaking runes, absorptions runes, to even magic suppression runes. The most curious ones were ones he didn't know. Sensing their magic; they seemed to be some form of identification runes mixed with blood runes. He decided to ignore the runes as his head was struggling to identify the magic.
Harry instead reached out to the wards just like Fleur taught him this past week. He felt the wards amplified by the magically rich stone. After almost 80 years of pulling in ambient magic the prison would be impenetrable. This was truly a prison. Nothing could come in and nothing could get out as far as he could tell.
As they climbed the stairs to the uppermost cell he had a sense of foreboding. He knew they couldn't run anymore. Although Queenie was not fully evil based on what Fleur told him, he still worried. Dark lords were not known for their mental stability.
The door opened to a room with bars separating the room. An old healthy man sat in a chair clearly frustrated. "What took you so long, Queenie? You promised me time."
Queenie looked at Grindelwald impassively. "You have 15min at best. I need 5min to get them out."
Grindelwald got up and cursed in German. "What happened? Who is the Veela?"
Queenie raised an eyebrow and signaled to Harry to move to a chair in the middle of the room. Harry hobbled towards it after letting go of Fleur. Exhaustion hit him as he sat down.
Queenie responded. "I actually don't know the name of the Veela. She is currently a friend of Harry. Although it could be more in time it seems. Not important though, she wanted to come with him."
Grindelwald smiled at Fleur. "Such loyalty at a young age. To face the unknown and to stay at his side. Ohhhhh. How I remembered the naivety of youth. I wish I could experience it one more time."
Fleur looked the Dark Lord in the eyes. Mesmerized at the different colors and how one became foggy. "Fleur Delacour." She said looking at the man trying to suppress the fear she had. Her papa had spoken of the wizard in great detail and in fear.
Grindelwald tilted his head. "My my. Destiny truly plays games. Delacour? Isabella Delacour. Does the name ring a bell?"
Fleur looked shocked he knew her family, how? "My grandmother? She passed away almost 4 years ago."
Grindelwald smiled sadly and bowed. "You have my condolences. She was a great witch and a better woman. She helped me research your Veela nature."
He turned from her to look at Harry. Fleur was shocked by the revelation. Her grandmother had helped Grindelwald but in what way? The Veela nature? Fleur wondered and the only thing she knew was that her grandmother was one of the smartest she knew regarding Veela.
Queenie sensing the conversation ended between the two moved on and looked at Harry. "Well?"
Harry looked at Grindelwald and then at Queenie "Well what? You goaded me and hit me with a Phantasma curse. I got your wand afterwards."
Grindelwald smiled. "You beat her?''
Queenie huffed. "I was focused on the goal we had. We needed it to break out. He casted an extremely wide cutting curse, banished a table at me, used a patronus to blind me, and followed it with an expelliarmus. All silently mind you. I figured if I let myself be hit I would land the curse."
Grindelwald's smile faltered as he looked at Harry. "Simple spells but how do you know about the Phantasma curse? Where did it hit him?"
Queenie also was surprised that Harry knew the spell. "It hit him in the chest. I figured he would ignore the spell. His frustration at not hitting me was blinding him and I think his own patronus did as well. But how do you know the spell Harry? It's a Russian one, and a House spell at that." Harry looked down, not really wanting to relive the memory.
Queenie spoke up sensing he wouldn't talk. "He began to hallucinate and I believe he saw his rune professor, Bathsheda. My report shows everything from her time at MACUSA. A witch who studied Obscurials and a witch who likes her secrets. Ones that she never tells anyone by the looks of it. She created the robe. Harry is close with her, a form of trauma bonding. I believe he saw her dying or something similar. He kept on saying her name. His magic was breaking and he was convulsing. It started to roll out in waves. Breaking everything in its path and screeching like an Obscurial. Again and again. He was like that for a while before he started attacking our loyalists with casted waves that also screeched like an obscurial."
Grindelwald looked conflicted and sat down. "So it didn't break out like Credence? The obscurus didn't take control."
Queenie shook her head. "I do not think he is an obscurial. He acts like one, but it doesn't have the transformation aspect. It's different. We couldn't hear what he was saying after he stood up. He was yell-''
Harry cut her off in anger. His robe began to glow. "It's Voldemort! It always has been. It will always be him." Harry sighed looking down trying to control his emotions.
Queenie spoke up. "How can we be sure? You were hallucinating."
Harry snapped. "Because I know him! I have faced him twice! I know how he likes to torment me! He used the curse and began to speak with me. He told me the name of the curse. He also argued that my blood and this robe was holding him back from dominating my body. He has been fighting me for over a month. I also didn't see him at first. I saw Sheda."
Grindelwald looked at the robe. Fascinated by it. "My my. This rune professor is something else. I read the report. I respect secrets. I have many. Dumbledore as well. You will also in time, Harry. Best to respect them. You may never know what you learn. Dark secrets many of us have. Trust why we do not say them to the people closest to us."
Harry was confused about his statement, but understood the concept. He wouldn't dwell on it currently. Grindelwald waved his hand and Harry could tell spells were being cast. A fact that surprised Harry considering the castle's runes. He then realized it. Harry whispered "The blood identification runes on the bricks." Grindelwald could still use magic in the castle.
Grindelwald smiled cruelly and ignored Harry's comment. "Basilisk skin I suppose from your second year? Fused with a basic robe? And 10 runes? 4 in a language I don't know? All made to control and monitor your magic. Even here where magic is impossible to anyone it reacts. It uses runes that I could never account for possibly?"
Harry's anger ran from him at being ignored but also because of how much information Queenie and Grindelwald had on him. No stone left unturned. All possible risk factors accounted for. His love of magical beasts was even known. Harry worried that Sheda was in with them, but he then realized Queenie knew about Herminoe. The bakery scent at the station. It was her he smelled that day. She had been at the station and maybe even the school gaining information.
The robe glowed brightly as Harry's anger ran from him. He casted an underpowered silent reducto at the wall. Grindelwald looked surprised. "Those runes are something else. It's underpowered but clearly it's using and fighting the castle. Hmmmm. Interesting. Either way I do not need the robe. What is this idea about blood?" Grindelwald sat down.
Harry looked around and sighed trying to control his emotion so the robe would stop. He felt a little tug and knew it was Fleur's Allure. It was weak in the castle, but he felt it hitting him just slightly. It relaxed him. She was staring at Grindelwald with a curious look on her face. He felt bad. She shouldn't have been here or in any of this. It was his instance to spend time with her. His insistence to stay after Queenie cornered him.
Harry looked at the ground staring at the runes in the stone. He felt he had done a lot of growing in the past month and half, both in how he acted and his own abilities. He knew he carried himself differently. He desperately wanted to be like his father, grandfather, and uncle. Wizards who led others. Wizards who brought the best out of everyone around them. Wizards who demanded respect.
He felt he was none of that. He was just a young teen. Trying so desperately to live up to standards he only just learned about. A teen realizing he had squandered almost 3 years of learning academically but also culturally. He had missed out on critical years to learn not only of the world around him, but his family's place in it all. His place in it all. He was just a teen who was infatuated with an older girl. One old enough that people in the muggle world would question it; although some wouldn't.
The wizarding world was different with its more archaic ideas of adulthood. In the eyes of his world he was virtually an adult with his titles. In some ways, like the coming of age celebrations he had read about it in the muggle world. Celebrations now, but customs that held true weight back when they were first founded and done. Something he learned about when he wondered why he didn't get birthday celebrations from the Dursley and went researching.
Harry sighed unsure really what to feel regarding everything. His life was changing and becoming so much more and so quickly. It was bound to happen. Maybe in a few years? Maybe as he got older, but it seemed fate had decided to come sooner. He would have to live up to the mantel set before him. He would die trying at least. Die trying to be like the men and women who gave as much as they could for him in their last hours.
"My blood has the venom of the Basilisk and the tears of a phoenix in it. I learned recently that the abilities of the venom and tears still flow through my system, like a blood ritual. Tom said it was holding him back. Sheda argued my blood could be a potent curse breaking tool, but it made no sense how it would work in this regard. My erratic magic is still the problem. The ideas of an obscurial still made the most sense."
Fleur, in all the revelations, had been struck with surprise. Harry could be an obscurial. That is what the robe did. It's why he had magic suppression runes on his dress robes the night they went to Vienna. It held the magic back, suppressed. A rune sewn like that could get overloaded. Was that what happened the night he left? Did Queenie see him and down the ICW agents so they couldn't report it? The snake robe was different. It was much more powerful and absorbed large quantities of magic. Sheda had to have created it. The witch was a genius by what she could tell. Any subject did not stump her nor any topic. It had to have been her which meant she knew. It also meant they were trying to hide it.
She tried to remember everything she learned about Obscurus and Obscurials in her 4th year. Although she didn't take beasts as a class, she was taught the horrors and warnings of an obscurial. It was enough of a fear in France that it deserved its own day in Defensive Magic class and spoke up. "Your magic is already becoming unstable if I am understanding everything. It is a symptom of being obscurial. You cracked the ground around you when you and Queenie started fighting. You also made the ground collapse on itself at some points." Queenie nodded and confirmed the girl's observation.
Grindelwald looked in thought and decided he would push this issue to someone else. He wouldn't trust the ravings of whatever that was in Harry's body. Voldemort could never be trusted. He needed to figure out what the other items were and how many were out there. He needed to cultivate trust now. "So tell me Harry. I want to know if you know. What makes Tom Riddle so fond of you?"
Harry was surprised Grindelwald knew the name. "What does Tom want with me? If I knew, do you think I wouldn't try to do something? 3 years now I am at his mercy. No one does anything but Sheda. Not even Dumbledore."
Grindelwald smiled as he got up and looked through his papers. Finding the sketch he held it to Harry. "Looks familiar. You should have seen it by now. As for your question, it's simply a prophecy between the two of you. I don't have time to discuss it. Ask Dumbledore."
Harry looked beyond confused. A prophecy? He then looked at the sketch and his eyes widened. "You? No. You! He wouldn't have." He remembered the letter. "It would be you. Why, though? I read about the war. How the Global Wizarding War turned a tide with your failed take over of magical Britain. Lord Black and my Grandfather helped defend Magical Britain from you and eventually pushed you all the way back to this very valley. You were afraid of my Grandfather, he was not only a War Hero to magical Britain but of Europe. Why would both of them come to you?" Queenie giggled at the 'afraid of' comment.
Grindelwald shifted in his seat. His ego was hurt by the comment. "I was not afraid. I understood a worthy opportunity. No one faces a Potter and lives, especially an angry one. Your family is notorious Harry. Magically gifted and your Grandfather was a Half-Blood as well. No. He was not someone I wanted to face in open combat, but I risked it. Control of Europe was certain if Magical Britain failed. With that victory I could focus on my invasion of Magical India. From there I could plan my invasion of MACUSA. Everything went to ruin when your grandfather arrived. He had taken his mantle as Lord Potter and defended his home land. I had hoped the Potters would delay or at least he would be controlled by his father. Hadrian Potter had been a staunch neutral supporter up to that point and to be blunt a centrists with no real political compass. To my surprise your great grandfather had decided to give up his mantle."
Grindelwald shifted in his chair and leaned back, he needed this conversation to work in order to cultivate trust with Harry. Queenie said Harry valued his family dearly. A virtue he could respect. "I heard he realized his son would go to war regardless and he would do it with or without the blessing. Charlus had finally stood up for his values. As a result, your great grandfather gave him the title. Deciding that it was clear he was ready to be the Lord." Grindelwald looked lost in the past very briefly.
"Lord Potter appeared in the ministry just as I had hoped we would win. The wards of the Alley fell easily and the wards of the ministry fell also. Suddenly he appeared. It was a surprise to most truthfully. Yet, his gold royal griffin crest on his blood red robes guaranteed who he was. He brought support from magical Britain and across the continent. The House that unified a divided nation. He would become the Banner to not only his people but to the continent." Grindelwald looked lost again as if his brain stopped working.
"To the surprise of everyone he brought Lady Dorea Black who fought side by side with him. A Black and Potter even talking was a rarity. Now you had them fighting together? To the horror of some they were even partners." Grindelwald again stopped. He wondered what could have been done differently.
No spy had reported such a relationship. "I had been successful in issuing a marriage contract between the Rosier family and the Black family. I thought it would stop the Blacks from fighting. Arcturus though cared for his little sister deeply and in many ways she controlled the House more than he did. As a result, he gave his support to Dorea. The two being together united the formally divided nation. I originally faced a weak nation with limited supporters to fight. I now faced a united nation with some of the wealthiest in the world. The country rallied under your Grandfather's leadership and so did the continent. Resistance fighters flocked to him. Magical Britain would be the launching ground for a united Europe against me. I was a fool the way I handled Magical Britain. Maybe too hasty? Maybe not hasty enough?" Grindelwald looked at Queenie who wasn't looking at him. He sighed wondering what could have changed. He felt Queenie would have known. Hasty choices fueled by anger. Ideals made him blind to possible alternative solutions.
"The rest of the war was something similar. Your grandfather and eventually your great Uncle, a thorn in my side. I had money of course. The Pavlov family being a major source of it. Lord Potter though was cheaply taken out of the war by Lord Pavlov in the middle of 43 and although he recovered it sent ripples and guaranteed I would lose. The Banner of the Resistance being cheaply taken out in a backstabbing way? Well it caused a schism within the Pavlov Family who valued Honor above everything."
Grindelwald seemed to get frustrated remembering the idiots choice. "His sons, feeling a sense of betrayal at their father's underhanded approach in the war, turned on him. They killed their father mid battle when the revelation of what really happened was revealed by Dorea Black in a duel and they left. I was then facing two fronts as the Pavlov family joined the war for their own prideful needs. They fueled a war on the eastern front of Europe and Magical China. China was a mess but I at least controlled a puppet government thanks to Queenie. I foresaw that the war would come to an end with my loss. So I chose to forfeit myself when I was fighting Albus. I didn't want to shed any more precious magical blood. I realized I had been spilling too much and I was wrong."
Harry heard the sadness in his voice and realized he sounded like Dumbledore. "You sound like Dumbledore." Queenie snorted again.
Grindelwald sighed. "Darn Potters and their inability to control their tongue. Go. Work with your rune professor on your magic issue, she will figure it out if her name is anything to go by. I believe you that it's something else connected to the dark lord. I hopefully will begin to understand this item. In time I will reach out and look to see the live one."
Harry looked confused at the comment about Sheda but also Grindelwald helping. "Why are you helping me? Why do you care what happens to me? My grandfather and uncle aren't even here. You aren't beholden to them."
Grindelwald looked at him. Catching eyes for the first time Harry looked at the different colored eyes and the foggy one eye. Luna had something like that and also a magic he felt didn't like him. "Dark times are coming. I have seen it, Harry. What is coming you can't face alone. I may not be able to change what I did, but I at least can add a final chapter in my own words. A final chapter not rotting here and a final chapter declaring my true philosophy and identity. Magicals, all of us, are a gift upon this planet. We have been given a gift by entities we do not understand. They blessed us. WE should own this planet, but we don't."
Grindelwald stopped before he let his anger at his failure get to him. He collected himself. "Tom won't stop at magical Britain. He will continue and no one will be able to stop him. Our kind will die by his foolishness and arrogance. Muggles, no-majs and whatever you call them are roaches I feel. Yet, I must admit they have risen to the occasion and they have become equals. The war I made may have brought a lasting peace, but it also allowed them to foster technology that matches our own capabilities. Tom will lead the magical world to its destruction. All of our kind and every magical creature will be killed as a result of his arrogance by the muggles. We must prepare and figure out how he came back. Afterwards, when he does come back, we kill him for good."
Harry looked at him suspiciously not believing the man was telling the truth. "You plan to fight Tom? Or do you plan to march on the world?"
Grindelwald had a cruel smile on his face. Harry didn't blindly follow. Intelligent. Truly could grow to be an equal. "A little bit of both Lord Black. WE have already started. You are funding all of this as you now know. I have been searching for 10 years using small groups of loyalists all over Europe. I had hoped to have an answer by now but nothing has pointed to what he did. Dark magic of the foulest kind. I even lost people to temptations, but I have found nothing. He removed all traces of what he did after he left Hogwarts it seems. But our saving grace is that he never left the continent. So my only solution is to see what other parts of the world may hold. As we speak, all around the world loyalists, spies, and people of every background have begun looking for something. I need to know how he survived and I need to know how he did it. This item points to his continued immortality. Magic like this shouldn't exist. It is too much of a temptation for the wizarding world. This item allows him to be a shadow or an echo."
Grindelwald let the paper fall to the ground, as he walked back and stared at his window. The slytherin locket shown on the paper. "Go. We have exhausted our time. Queenie, stay with him and keep yourself hidden from outside eyes. Your ties to me are well known. I want my part to be unknown until the closest possible moment. I will communicate if I need something. Put Dumbledore in line and make sure the fool doesn't try anything rash. Harry, you train. One day I will help, but for now learn everything you can and prepare. That robe and Bathsheda's name gives me confidence that she can figure out what is happening to you."
Grindelwald knew it was a tall order but no House had the credentials like hers did. Secrets or not. The witch was a legacy of everything her House had built towards according to Dumbledore. "She should be able to at least figure out how to fix it. She is everything her ancestors hoped for and she has a wide berth of knowledge. We shall leave her to it. Maybe she can develop a reverse ritual. "
Harry did not move, Sheda was something, but he didn't care right now. He looked at the back of the man's head.
Fleur had been shocked at the further revelations and stayed quiet. Who was Tom? The dark lord maybe? This was the life of Harry Potter. Who knew how many died to make this meeting even happen. Grindelwald and Queenie were very much complicated individuals who did not care what needed to be done for their goals. Shouldn't she care?
She looked at Harry. A part of her didn't care anymore looking at him. A part of her wanted to be there for him. He was willing to get tortured then have her reveal herself. He had guaranteed they made it out of the field. She also now understood what he meant when he said he had uncertainties in life. These were on a different level and now her and her family would be brought in.
Could they do it? Should they? Then she remembered Grindelwalds words. That no one will stop him but the muggles. As a result they would then exterminate all the magicals. There was really no choice if Grindelwalds word was to be believed.
Queenie nodded and moved to show them out. Harry spoke through the bars. "You tell me and teach me everything you know when you are out. I will not be a pig fattened up and put up for slaughter."
Grindelwald turned around and smiled at Harry. He liked the teen. He would become more than Albus and even him. "Of course."
Break break break
As they made it out of the castle Luthwin was waiting in the forest with his arms crossed behind his back. He looked at Queenie. "You went over your time. Combined Austrian, French, German, and Swiss forces are preparing to launch their offensive into the valley. You two need to leave."
Luthwin pointed at the teens. "The station has been evacuated of survivors; many did survive. It bought you time. The anti-apparition wards are still up for everyone but us. The problem is we can't have you enter the station so closely anymore. We have heard that they believe most have been evacuated and caught the French Head Auror ordering that you both be found. You two need to be deep in the Valley now. The twilight night should hold for a good while longer so the Lethifolds will still be hunting. Sorry, but you will need to fight. There are some unfortunate victims still left and being hunted. Half the Lethifolds are still pushing at the station. Yet, with the station about to start pushing back the Lethifolds will look for anything and anyone to hunt."
Queenie looked grim. "Is there anything else that can be done?"
Luthwin shook his head. "It's already suspicious as it is that they haven't been fully seen. The only report is that someone is alive with the ability to cast a corporeal patronus. A fact that the French head Auror has vocalized is Harry's. His corporeal patronus is hard to miss, but it's been missing for awhile now. They know he should be in the valley. Anything less of him being in the valley would cause strong suspicion. A tragedy of this scale will 100% result in Harry being questioned with veritaserum if he is discovered not in the valley. Alexandra has snuck in with the Swiss forces to lead your men as usual. We can't show our hand. It's too risky and the world will act. For the greater good they must hold out in the valley."
Harry spoke up understanding. "We can buy time. It's not ideal but it's." Harry stopped. Sheda told him to only use it in extreme cases. Grindelwald had been fruitless in discovering what Tom did in over 10 years, making Harry doubt anyone else could do it quicker. This was necessary. It was necessary for him to fight in the valley if needed. Too much was at risk. Most importantly losing their element of secrecy regarding Grindelwald.
Although he didn't trust the man; his Grandfather and uncle thought they could in the case of helping them defeat Voldemort. "It's necessary. Whatever you do, don't reveal yourselves. Grindelwald needs the time and we need the secrecy. I will make sure we hold out. Just get everyone out when it's all over and make sure nothing can be tied to Grindelwald or me."
Queenie was surprised Harry agreed with Luthwins ide. She let the Luthwin continue who nodded at Harry's order. "All traces of what you did Lord Potter have been tainted by the fiendfyre. Three dark marks. The Lethifold attack being successful, the Hotel being destroyed and the retreat. Everything will be wiped. No stone left un turn. My portion of loyalists will guarantee it. Queenie's portion of loyalists are already in the combined forces. Give us the time and we will get to you. Understood?" Luthwin told Harry.
Queenie grabbed both of their shoulders and they apparated back into the field. "Harry. Your heirloom, the invisibility cloak. It's one of the deathly hallows according to Dumbledore. Use it as your cover. Don't tell anyone what it is, but know it hides your very being. It only works fully, I believe, if one person is under it. I am sorry. This wasn't part of my plan. Good luck. I will make sure we follow what you said." With a sad smile she was gone.
Fleur out of nowhere hugged Harry. He was shocked by the display of care. "I am sorry. I didn't know. My life is a joke compared to the stressors you have." Fleur felt embarrassed about the complaining she did when they first met.
Harry hadn't expected a hug enjoying the lavender. He expected disbelief or some form of shock. Fleur didn't seem to care about any of that. "Fleur. It's okay. We all deal with stuff differently. This is just a Wednesday for me with a little bit of spice."
She giggled. "Picnic with a dark lady?"
Harry laughed slightly blushing. "Whatever you want to call yourself sure." She looked in horror and got red, not meaning that. She meant Queenie or did she? Suppressing the wayward thought she remembered what Queenie had told them.
She excitedly pulled the invisibility cloak from where she hooked it on her purse. Harry looked at as well. Fleur spoke up feeling the cloak's silky water material. "Death's cloak. So they're real? You are something else Arry."
He looked at her in question. "It's an invisibility cloak, No? What is so special about it?" Fleur smiled at him. Envy came up in her eyes, but seeing everything else in his life. Having such an item was more of a tool with the craziness. It was clear he cherished it more as a family heirloom than anything. He had been vocal to her about its significance but not anything else. Although now she understood why he never mentioned his life to her. Now more than ever, she now realized that Harry maybe wasn't vocal out of a sense that he had no right to complain. She realized she would like to be someone he could talk to. She had complained about her issues to him. Maybe he could trust her to do so as well.
"Too much to talk about. Just know a lot of wizards and witches for centuries have died looking for this. I don't deserve to hold it, you should hold it." She grabbed it and looked to give it to him. Happy to have dealt with her envy in a simple way.
Harry stopped her. "Only one of us can really use it perfectly according to Queenie. You keep it for now. Give it back when this is all over. I trust you to keep it safe in case something happens okay?"
Fleur nodded. Although she knew he didn't fully understand the significance of what he was handling her. The fact he somewhat understood and still wanted her to hold on to it made her pause.
How was he like this? Her thoughts were pulled away as she saw him staring across the field. A realization of the horror they now found themselves in once again.
Harry looked around them. He saw their picnic space and looked to make it there. Over 100 Lethifolds were in the valley loose and hunting. What would be the best location to hide or hold out? Currently it seemed there was nothing around them. They could make it back to the town but it would look suspicious on his part to go towards the dark marks rather than run. He decided the best course of action was hiding in the field. As much as he hated it; not many other options existed. Attempting a path towards the ICW station would be suicidal considering more Lethifolds would be between them and the station.
Making it the picnic spot he looked around. "I think we can try hiding in the field. As for our story we tell your father and ICW agents we ran into the town after napping under the cloak. As an heirloom we explain it hides magic. Either via runes or whatever. We confronted some wizards, fought and were able to escape back into the field. The wizards didn't follow. Making it the station would be sucide as we didn't know if there were more people. What do you think?"
Fleur was surprised that he looked for her input. She looked around. Truly the worst place to be for a lethifold horde. 2 feet high meadows for a creature who loved floating inches of the ground while hunting. Only when attacking did it fly like a dementor. Looking at the cliff wall she knew it could be used for an enchantment .It would corner them though. "The cliff wall is best. I can try to enchant the sky around us to make it snow and drop the temperature. It should help us. The ICW removed the enchantments of the area keeping the area temperate and casted further winter enchantments to remove the Lethifolds before the tournament. Regarding your explanation we argue it was people with masks. Voldemort's death eaters used them. We also didn't fight them, we saw them at the hotel and ran back into the fields. It would explain why they didn't follow us.''
Harry beamed. "Great idea. Okay. Let's head over slowly."
Fleur was surprised she considered her idea a good one. She never had been in anything like this. Harry unclipped his knife from his belt and handed it to Fleur. "If we get attacked. I know you don't have a patronus but use this. The Lethifold is still a creature and the Basilisk venom eats everything. " She nodded as she put her wand away and carefully held the blade from her.
Break break break
They slowly walked for a few minutes and Harry saw that Fleur was getting anxious at the silence. He whispered which caught her attention. "The thing I didn't tell you about that adventure with the snake is that I fought a form of Voldemort. He called himself Tom Riddle, a half -blood that was a slytherin at Hogwarts. Tom or 'it' released the snake. I traded a few spells but he was a ghost. I fought the snake and killed it with a sword. I was dying after its fang went into my arm. I stabbed a book with the same fang. A book that was somehow tied to him. Fawks saved me a few moments later. " Fleur listened as they slowly made their way checking every few steps for a Lethifoldin the tall grasp.
Harry finished the story. "The book being destroyed killed him but it was an echo. That is what Dumbledore called it. He must have told Grindewald."
Fleur gasped. "Dumbledore communicated with Grindelwald."
Harry nodded a tad frustrated. "I am not 100% sure. I think he did, but I don't think Dumbledore had a hand in any of this. He would never plan something like this, in what I have read about the Global Wizarding war, he is overly cautious. This? This is too messy."
Harry was silent, thinking about what had happened and made the connection to the night after Vienna. "No, not messy. Necessary. I realize now Queenie was going to take me that night we came back from Vienna. My robe was an issue she hadn't been told about. It made things complicated. The heightened activity in the valley and me being extra cautious meant she couldn't kidnap me. She needed to play a major game. One she planned with Grindelwald. What did Queenie say to the guard? The one who talked to us? 'For the greater good? I read about it, but I focused more on what Grindelwald did, not his propaganda. Was it a philosophy then?'"
Fleur nodded. "Qui. It was Grindelwald's motto during his war. A sort of victory at any cost. Is the best way to describe it." Harry nodded, having two realizations.
First, His 'necessary' was like Grindelwald's 'for the greater good'. Maybe he would have to reveulate it. Having a moniker like a dark lord was not a great idea. Sheda's point was even more palatable now. He was learning but missing details. It made sense now what Grindelwald did and why. It was all to win for his goal, but to make others believe in it as well. Propaganda and philosophy were two things very much tied together. Propaganda was not just a way to control the masses and thrown to the side. Philosophy could grow from it and have a life of its own. He had unwittingly fallen to it.
Second. His actions led to the massacre in the valley. He showed Queenie he was willing to sacrifice innocent life. The robe was only a part of the equation. Maybe showing what he did she assumed he would never go willingly. He would go down fighting and possibly expose himself and Grindelwald. He didn't want to know how many died in the panic, attack, and subsequent evacuation.
Harry sighed with frustration and anger as he stopped in the meadow. "Gosh. I don't see a way I would have gone with her willingly. A secret kidnapping would be worse as everyone wonders what happens to me. Nor a big game plan that wasn't like this."
Harry began to think about what he learned. What Arcturus Black would do if he had planned something like this. Arcturus always planned for his grandfather by what he could tell. Even helping create the diversion plan when they invaded Europe. "They needed to hide under something big. Something where Grindelwald's influence could not be considered. This attack's scale will see people not focus on who caused it but how it happened. How governments failed. They could then spread misinformation; the dark mark, government conspiracy. Ingenious, a masterclass of creating a smokescreen and mass manipulation. Yet, so many people. All to get to me. All for me. I can't be that valuable. My family did the same thing. I can't be that valuable." Harry looked down and squeezed his left hand hoping to control his emotion.
Fleur looked at him with some curiosity and his small monologue. She realized he was right. This was an ingenious smokescreen. She focused on what she heard at the end; desperation. Guilty that people had died because of the need to get him. It was also clear that the guilt dug deeper. It went into the concepts of what his family had done. Like he told her when they first met he didn't feel worthy of his titles. His family were great individuals in their own way. They died for him, the Last Potter.
He held himself together much to Fleur's surprise gesturing for her to keep going. Fleur stared into his green eyes and a new feeling appeared for him. She didn't understand the feeling. A feeling coming into her that she never expected with anyone. She could have anyone but not here she couldn't. The world wouldn't allow it. The feeling of a cru-. She stopped herself, she wouldn't ponder it. Not now.
Fleur walked back to him but took a quick peek to make sure nothing was around them. She then hugged him tightly, much to his clear surprise. She whispered closely in his ear. "You will be worth so much if you are able to accomplish just half of what you told Queenie just now and I this past week. Don't ever doubt the worth Family has. Okay? I would do anything for Gabi. Including dying. I can't explain it but I would do it in a heartbeat. That is what your family felt, Arry." She pulled away and held his hand as she looked at him.
Harry was surprised by the gesture and care in her words. Although that was not at the forefront of his mind as he looked at her. He was confused at what he was feeling. She was sweaty, had grime on her face, her pants were ripped, her ponytail was a mess, and she looked like she was barely keeping it together. To him though, she never looked more breathtaking than at that moment.
He pulled himself from stupor and nodded, squeezing her hand. "Lead the way. And start working on your enchantment when you get there. I will cover you." She smiled at him and continued walking. She didn't let go of his hand.
Break break break
They were close to the cliff wall now and nothing had happened yet. Maybe this would be easy and then Harry cursed himself at such a thought. It never was like that and like clockwork he bumped into Fleur who had stopped.
She caught him from falling over. Holding him she whispered into his ear. "What is it doing?" Harry looked up, not catching the trembling in her voice.
A Lethifold was in their path seemingly shivering on the ground, the sound of cracking happening every so often. Harry tried moving his head to see. He caught sight of a leg and some boots. The creature was eating a body from the chest downward. "It's eating a person." Harry said grimly.
He looked to step back and move around it when he looked up and saw they had become surrounded. A Lethifold on every side. They were hunting and catching onto someone's fear based on their movement. At least he figured due to the fact that they didn't look docile but actively searching. The closest one outside of the one in front of them was about 15 feet away. No way out. "Shite we are surrounded" he whispered. He looked at Fleur and he realized they were tracking Fleur's fear. She was grabbing onto his hand with a death grip.
He squeezed her hand. "It's okay," he whispered. Fleur didn't respond. He pulled to turn her around and she did so. She started to cry silently as she looked at him. She was trying to hold herself together, but he could hear her heart beating rapidly as she came in close. She looked down and was starting to breathe quickly. The fear was getting to her and the Lethifolds could sense it. He had forgotten that the whole valley had a sense of fear. He figured he had gotten used to the feeling over time from his adventures. Fleur would have never experienced this.
"Fleur look at me." He whispered. He needed her to see that everything would be okay. She looked at him, her blue eyes meeting his green. He grabbed her hand and pulled it into his robe. Unsure if it would work, maybe if she felt how calm he was it would help her.
She was surprised at feeling his chest and what he was doing but then she realized. His heart. Her hand rested on his chest. It was beating slowly. He was calm. She could be calm. She breathed in. She felt her heart slow down to match Harry's.
Harry looked again at the beast eating in front of them, not moving Fleur's hand, and saw the beast was very slowly finishing up. It was not its first victim. The others had stopped moving quickly. Slightly docile it seemed; they lost the scent. He looked at Fleur who still had her hand on his chest. He didn't acknowledge it, as long as she stayed calm it was okay. He whispered. "We have two options. We either try to kill the one in front with the knife. Who knows what it does? Maybe nothing? Maybe Attract the horde? Or we use a patronus and we attract the horde."
Fleur looked at him not really wanting to see the body or any of the beasts anymore. Her hand on his heart. She liked it and wanted to keep it there. She whispered back."Your patronus could be a beacon also? It could show where we are."
Harry nodded, realizing he liked how it felt having her hand on his chest. "Your father knows what my patronus is so that could work."
Fleur nodded as her fingers began to trace around where his heart was unconsciously.
Harry breathed in feeling many emotions. Maybe she didn't realize what she was doing, but feeling her nails trace through his shirt was doing things to him.
He stayed focused. "I can do a quick one. To scare this one and you start the charm on the cliff wall. Any reason on why the cliff wall is for the enchantment?"
Fleur replied as she looked down at her fingers. Stopping once she realized what she was doing and blushed. The heat hid the blush. She still didn't pull her hand away, but she now stared at his chest. "Magic. The whole valley is magical. It's been in magic for a while and as a result the Cliff walls will hold the spell better than just me casting it."
Harry nodded looking at the cliff; not seeing Fleur's stare. "Do you need help?"
Fleur shook her head both to tell him she didn't, but also to clear her head. She was becoming a mess of emotions. Emotions she didn't understand nor could worry about right now. Hesitating, she pulled her hand away. Leaving it at her side, the longing got worse. "I should be able to enchant everywhere around us in a 20ft radius."
Harry didn't feel her pull her hand away. He looked away in thought and realized. It wouldn't be enough. It would stop the ones around them, but if more were called the collective humidity would still allow them to attack. "It's not enough I think. The Lethifolds aren't like dementors; they feed and desperately hunt; they will come back. We need more."
She bit her lip as she began to focus as well. "You're right. I can't do more though. I can try to feed the spell on the last step but it requires a lot."
Harry started thinking of everything he knew. Magic absorption runes. "Runes! Fleur. Could they work on people? ''
Fleur shook her head in horror. "It overloads the body or fails; either way you die. Runes are not put on people for that reason. The body changes constantly, you grow, age, sunburn, sweat, the rune is never stable on living organic items."
He heard it. A possible way. It was risky but necessary. "What is the spell you use to feed it?"
Fleur looked at him with worried eyes. "Meteolofrigus, you will see when I cast it. The first initial steps are what takes the longest."
Harry nodded. "Try your best. I will hold out. At least do as much as you can to give it a chance that they will ignore us or avoid us. If there is an opportunity I will try to feed it."
Fleur nodded fear in her eyes but determination.
Harry realized what he was about to do was risky. He grabbed the knife from her. Yet, he knew the Horde would come. It was a question of whether they could hold out. "Ready?" She nodded.
Fleur POV:
The patronus came to life as it flapped its wings and flew at the Lethifold. Quickly, Fleur ran at the cliff wall and casted Glacius maximuma on it. Slowly ice began to grow on the wall. She then casted the spell again and again, carefully applying the right amount of magic. Layering the magic to meld and become one larger magical focal point. She then whispered atmos, the atmospheric charm, and very quickly the ice spread. Growing and multiplying. A crystal in the center began to form. The focal point had been created.
Fleur casted Atmos again, pushing her magic into the crystal at a steady rate. She heard a growl but focused. Harry would protect her. The melodic patronus kept her calm. She then spun her wand, whispering glacius maximuma, instead of casting the spell she kept it at the tip of her wand. An icicle seemed to grow on her wand as she charged it.
She heard music from her wand. Almost as if the magic was singing. She smiled. This is why she loved enchanting. So close to magic. The singing reminded her of her grandma's lullabies. She then slowly pulled the crystal out of the cliff wall by attaching it to her icicle. Feeling the magic she saw the invisible line showing the charm or rather what would now become an enchantment anchored to the wall.
She continued to spin her wand as the crystal grew, she casted Glacius maximum multiple times. Focusing on the lattice structure of the crystal. It needed to be perfect to support what would come at it. She felt the magic sing again. She let the magic flow through her. One last atmos as she felt the crystal stabilize. It was done.
She turned around to her horror. There seemed to be 30 Lethifolds floating above them. Arry's cloak was thrown to the wayside as his magic became unstable; slightly cracking the ground around him. Seeing her Harry screamed "NOW!"
She casted Meteolofrigus and with a blast the crystal flew off her wand and into the sky dead center where the Lethifolds were. Immediately the temperature dropped but to her surprise not to the degree she suspected. Dread. It was not gonna be enough. She casted the spell again and fed her magic. Her own Allure flaring at the Magic in the area. It started frosting the area and finally the temperature lowered to a degree that it rebuffed the Lethifolds. The only problem was that she needed to hold it in order to keep the temperature lowered.
Fleur looked down and noticed her avian self was appearing, a first in her life. She tried to control it but a fireball appeared in her non-wand hand. She threw it at a Lethifold in frustration of her form being revealed in such a way. It screamed or what some would consider screaming but its body now seemed rejuvenated. The heat. The magical heat and fire. It had given it more energy. It charged at her but suddenly she felt a hand grab her. It pulled her away and suddenly a scream, an unholy one. She saw Harry stab the beast in the cloak hood and the clock began to corrode and fall apart. The other Lethifolds pulled away seemingly shocked at the actual death of one of their kind. A concept once impossible. It gave them a moment of pause.
Harry turned to her and she gasped at his bare left leg. It was bleeding but she noticed something; it was a rune. An incomplete rune. He spoke to her. "Fleur! Not enough time! You cut the skin off after I am done. You flay it off. I didn't cut too deep. It's only on the skin. If the reaction doesn't stop , the robe. Throw it on me." he handed her the robe. She was shaking her head.
Harry grabbed her shoulders. "The station forces are not here and who knows how much longer we have to wait for the loyalists. It's either this spell or my patronus but it's clear the Lethifolds won't back off anymore." She looked at him with horror. A part of her, the longing part screamed he couldn't do this. He smiled and with the knife looked down one extra cut and the rune began to glow.
Break break break
Harry POV (small backtrack)
Harry saw Fleur run to the wall and moved the patronus to fly in a circle. The original Lethifold they had scared got angry and screeched. The others around them did so as well. Harry then saw multiple Lethifolds bolt at them from around the valley. He could see 20 cloaks but it was clear that the Lethifold's had called for an attack. Submit the wizard who had the charm to push them from their bountiful hunt.
Harry breathed as he kept the patronus up. He pushed his patronus to produce waves as he heard the growl of a lethifold trying to attack Fleur. They needed time. He quickly grabbed his knife and slashed at his left pant leg. Tearing the leg portion off, it exposed his left thigh. "God damnit Queenie. Couldn't have picked an easier beast to deal with. Maybe a letter would have been nice. 'Hey American witch here. I know all your secrets that you hate people knowing. Meet at this location so I can take you to the most feared dark wizard in the world who has brought continents to their knees. It's just a chit chat. By the way, can I get a bonus in my pay? You are paying for all this so technically you are involved also." Harry shook his head at his stupid thoughts and the craziness of everything.
Nothing could be simple. Nothing. He threw his robe off, feeling it hold him back and allowed his magic to become unstable. The ground cracking under him; it should be okay with the patronus. Seeing Fleur turn around he yelled at her to do it now. He saw her wand and a beautiful crystal flew off and landed dead center in the horde. The temperature dropped and it wasn't close to enough. The concentration of the Lethifolds had made the area uncomfortably hot and humid like he predicted. She reapplied her spell and he saw the lethifolds get rebuffed. Seeing his opportunity he dropped his spell.
"Plan B." He whispered and started cutting with simple and quick cuts so as to not go in too deeply. He felt the Basilisk venom flow into his blood and the pain as the phoenix tears fought back. The venom seemed to increase the instability of his magic as he saw the ground crack under him even more. He then saw Fleur break out into her avian form.
A form mentioned in Newts book that mentioned it came under extreme stress or from greatly insulted Veela's. Fleur threw her magical fire at the Lethifolds. It seemed either the Lethifold was rejuvenated or went into a rage not caring if nothing happened to it. It charged. Harry quickly grabbed his robe and ran over, grimacing at the pain in his leg, he pulled Fleur away and stabbed the beast in the cloak hood. The knife's venom eating at the cloak and its magic. Destroying it in a horrifying scream that seemingly shocked the horde. It gave him time to explain to Fleur on what to do and what he was doing. He then reassured her. Not waiting to hear a response he slashed the final part and the rune began to glow.
"METEOLOFRIGUS!" Harry yelled as he pointed at the crystal. Nothing happened just briefly and then a torrent of wind and rainbow magic began flowing towards Harry as he pulled magic in. It looked like the rune was sucking everything around him in. The rune shining brightly on his skin.
The Lethifolds looked to attack, but suddenly a beam of light blue plasma connected with the crystal and the crystal grew. The crystal began to pulse waves of chilled air. Each wave pushed the Lethifolds back in disgust and hatred. Each wave caused snow to begin to fall. Each wave caused more and with each wave the distance increased. Harry pushed harder, smiling it was working.
Harry held the spell as the rune pushed his body to its limits as he felt magic like he had never felt before. Every fiber of his being was filled with it. He felt alive. He felt well. This feeling was euphoric, maybe this is what people had been chasing. A true magical being. He kept pushing the magic and to his surprise he noticed the crystal's impact was now reaching the town.
Deciding to give it one final push he focused everything his body could do and pushed again. Feeling the magic respond to him and feeling it flow freely through his body. The euphoric feeling spread through his body. Feeling the magic bend to his command like it always should. He then felt a focused pulse of an allure and he realized what he had said.
"Bend?" He said out loud, he was shocked by what he said and stopped the spell. "To my command." He whispered. The rune was still glowing as he turned to a crying Fleur who he was surprised was right next to him. To his shock she stunned him. The last thought he had was what perverted magic he had accidentally done.
Break break break
Seeing Harry cast the spell she panicked. He only needed to do a little. It would save them and then she could work on cutting the skin off. She tried to calm herself as she felt magic flow like never before. Rainbow transparent lighting pulling from every direction to a single point on his thigh. She was mesmerized at the way his body held together as a beam of blue light connected with the crystal she had made. It began to pulse and grow and to her relief it began to work the Lethifolds where running.
Within a few seconds they guaranteed themselves safety as the temperature was now well below freezing and snow was already accumulating. That is when she began to worry. Harry didn't stop the spell. He was smiling, but not a normal one. A wicked one. She understood something was wrong. She didn't know what, but she had to help him.
"Arry! Stop it! We are safe!" She yelled but he didn't hear or didn't listen. "Arry stop it! The enchantment has worked." She then saw the rune glowing and now burning his skin. She ran up to him and pulled at his arms but she found him to be stiff and almost anchored. He didn't even acknowledge her touching him. He was going to keep going. He would keep going until his magic burned the rune fully into his skin and killed him. She tried to stun him but the spell was seemingly absorbed into the rune.
What could she do? If magic didn't work. What could even be done? She started panicking and crying as she paced next to him. He wasn't stopping. Seeing him refocus and push himself again. She decided to focus her Allure on him. A full blast. He may be immune, but based on what Gabi told her he did acknowledge it. It could work. He would understand, but the taboo did hold her back. She had never done it, but she steeled herself.
She looked at him and reached out for him. Focusing on him. His green eyes. Her feelings of longing. Everything. She needed to reach out to his very core. She felt her allure grab onto his magic and she pulled. To her relief he turned around and cut the spell. The rune was still glowing but clearly not working. He looked at her with slight confusion and said "Bend? To my command?" Deciding to not risk it she stunned him and caught him with a sigh of relief that it worked.
Laying him down she began to work on his leg. She grabbed his knife from his hand and hesitated. "Flay skin. Gosh Arry. What do you think people do? Study that?" She belched as she pushed the skin into his leg and began cutting on a side. Each cut made her want to throw up.
Finally after some time she was done and picked the skin up. No longer able to control it she stood up and threw up to the side. She decided to burn the skin quickly, summoning her flame. An easy task now after her first avian transformation. "No one but Sheda needs to know how he did it but that he did. Something clearly happened with his body. Maybe a dark art." She whispered as she sat next to him.
Finally feeling the cold. She looked up and saw the whole valley now enchanted.
The large crystal 40 or so feet in the air was now self-sustaining with a large circular ice sheet on the ground from where it floated. The circular ice sheet had designs like a snowflake. It had fully stabilized while she was cutting the rune off Arry's leg. It was beautiful. The valley now looked like a Christmas postcard. Snow falling and to her surprise the slight scent of cinnamon and pine everywhere. "Arry's magic."
She tried to enervate him but it didn't work to her worry. "Magical exhaustion possibly" she spoke. Deciding to not move him and since he was hot to the touch she tried a few healing charms she knew on the part of his leg she removed the skin from and found nothing worked. It was too magically charged from the venom covered magical knife.
Fleur also knew he had the venom in his system from the cut on his scar but would it add to the venom? Maybe the balance is off? She would have to also tell Sheda. Reaching for his bag she was surprised it opened for her. Maybe he had added her magic? Casting a few heating charms on him; she reached into his bottomless bag to pull out her blanket and wrapped him in it. She got up and grabbed his robe; she put it on for now to keep herself warm while they waited, sending a flare charm into the air.
Suddenly more flare charms came from the town and other parts of the valley. "Survivors" Fleur smiled, maybe it hadn't been all that bad. "You still saved people, Arry." Fleur said as she looked at his sleeping form. 'Saving people thing' he had told her. She thought back to everything. "You really do have a crazy life, Arry." She smiled sadly. "I want to help, but am I even enough of a help?" She had failed in her plan and he had to risk his life. "Willing to sacrifice your life for the people you care about. So you care about me Arry? I care about you too. I should have done more."
Fleur realized she hadn't really helped when they confronted Queenie. She hadn't done anything. She had his trust, to stay hidden, but that was it. She sighed. "Maybe it would be best not to help. Just wait on the sidelines." A part of her hated that. She wanted to be his friend. She already cared too much, she would worry too much and most importantly she was too proud. She couldn't stay on the sidelines because her pride wouldn't allow it. She would train. She would get better. The patronus would be the first thing. She would rise to be his equal.
Break break break
Fleur had been waiting for an hour or so wrapped in her blanket. She had built a small fire and kept her allure in as to use the magic to keep her warm internally. She had tried to pick up Arry earlier to move him but he had started shaking so she kept him in place. She figured he probably needed his robe. Much to her relief it glowed when she put it on him, but it still glowed.
She understood it was a magic issue then, but had no idea how to help. She was also worried. She wasn't sure what was happening nor why it was taking people forever to find them. The large crystal was clearly a beacon. Finally she heard commotion from further down the field as wizards and witches came closer. She fired another flare and saw them start running towards her. She was confused when they arrived.
They all circled the crystal and then she realized. "It's not every day that a large valley is enchanted within a few minutes, Arry." She whispered to Harry, his robe still glowing. They were probably being extremely cautious with the magic. She stayed seated, with her head on her knees. As the Germans yelled at her commands. Fleur, for the first time ever not really caring about authority. "I don't understand German," she yelled back. "I know English and French."
The German looked much more angry and yelled again as Swiss forces arrived.``This is a basic enchantment although overpowered by him, the Boy who lived Arry Potter. He created this with-." She stopped herself. She had helped. Together they had created this beautiful creation. Why did it feel so wrong to admit it? It's because she failed, but Harry wouldn't have been able to do it either. "My help. His magic fueled my enchantment."
She didn't care the Germans bristled at her comment and then she noticed a fair young brown haired witch with Swiss uniform cast a corporeal patronus and talked to it? The bunny hopped away. That same Swiss witch then walked up to her clearly looking at the crystal. She spoke up with a slight American accent? "Hello. I am officer Alexandra. Are you saying this was created by you?"
Fleur nodded as she stood up to explain what had been done. "It is a basic charm anchored to the cliff. The amount of magic and spells layered in each other has created a self-sustaining enchantment powered by the crystal. Arry Potter fueled the enchantment with his magic. He did it a tad bit too much in an emotional panic as we were surrounded by over 30 Lethifolds. I do think the Valley will now look like this. At least until the crystal further stabilizes and even then the enchantment probably can't be removed. Sorry."
Fleur then looked down at Arry, noticing the robes glow start to subside. She quickly pulled her Allure in and saw the glow come back and then released it seeing the glow subside. Her allure was helping. It helped like last time with Queenie. She would have to keep it released. "I do hope we can take him to get some help. I believe magical exhaustion and an injury to his leg has put him to sleep."
Alaxandra responded. "Thank you for the update. We had been extra cautious not knowing what caused the enchantment. We did have the cloud charm throw the valley into darkness. That had only just started to wear off when this happened so we were not sure if another attack was planned as our forces moved in. The rest of the valley survivors are in your debt. Many had been hiding. Do you want to come with me while my colleagues take-"
Fleur cut the women off and sat back down. "No, I will stay. I will see what is done for him. He is very private and does not trust many. He would be very angry if anyone he didn't know stayed by his side. He would especially want his guardian Bathsheda Babbling present.'' Alaxandra smiled, seeing the Veela would not be moving she sent another Patronus to the station requesting Sheda.
