Luz ran as fast as she could. The Coven Guards were close behind her and she didn't know how to get out of this. She came to a stop at a cliff and looked down. She saw the boiling water below and realized there was no way to escape. She backed up and heard the voices of the Coven Guards.
"She's this way!"
Luz was ready to give up when she remembered something she learned at Hexside.
"Oh, I hope this is true." Luz said, "If it isn't, I'm going to die."
Luz sprinted towards the cliff and jumped off. She hit the water as soon as the Coven Guards made it to the cliff.
"Where is she?"
"Did she jump off?"
"Don't be ridiculous, everyone knows that she wouldn't survive the boiling water. She must have slipped past us."
They went back into the woods to look for her. Luz poked her head above the water and looked at the cliff.
"I guess it's true." Luz raised a purple tailfin above the water, "Mermaids are immune to the boiling ocean."
Luz went under the water and started to swim away. She swam towards the Owl House and saw Eda at the edge of the cliff.
"Eda!"
Eda looked down and saw Luz in the water.
"Luz!? What are you doing in the water!?"
"Long story, can you help me up?"
Eda got her staff and flew down towards Luz.
"Alright Kid, get on."
"Uh, about that." Luz raised her tail, causing Eda to gasp, "I kind of need a hand."
Eda made a spell circle and Luz was in a bubble full of water. Eda flew up with the bubble right behind her. Eda landed and looked at Luz.
"Alright Kid, you have some explaining to do." Eda said, "Starting with why you have a tail."
"Well... uh... I'm... a mermaid." Luz said, "I don't know how or why, but I've always had a tail when I enter the water."
Eda popped the bubble and Luz held up her hands, which caused the water to leave her tail and turn it back into legs.
"Well, I would say you're only half mermaid, seeing as you can switch between legs and tail. Full mermaids can't do that, which would also explain why you were able to get through the barrier in the Conformaturioum."
Eda quickly brought Luz inside.
"Listen Kid, no one can know about this." Eda said.
"I've kept it a secret for fourteen years, I don't think keeping it hidden is a problem."
"Luz, this is serious, mermaids are endangered." Eda said, "Luz, mermaid meat goes for a lot on the black market. It got to the point that Belos had to make a law to stop mermaid hunting, it's the only law of his that I agree with. There are poachers in the water, if you're caught... I don't even want to think about what will happen."
Outside, a ship flying a jolly roger was in the distance, with the captain looking at the Owl House through his spyglass.
"So, the Owl Lady is harboring a mermaid, eh? Well, I'll get that Mermaid if it's the last thing I do."
