The Legend of Aang Ocarina of Time
Get Used To It
Aang felt numb, he watched as Ozai stood before him. He had regained access to his past lives and the Avatar State in turn, but he couldn't finish Ozai off. He just didn't have it in him to take the man- the monster's life. He closed his eyes thoughtfully.
Sozin's Comet had faded off into the distance and the Phoenix King grew furious, "I may not have won Avatar, but you haven't either." Fire streamed from Ozai's nostrils as he fumed in anger.
Aang lost focus for a crucial second, he thought could hear women screaming…
"Help!" "Help" "Help!"
Taking an angry step forward, Ozai prepared his attack to feel some sort of satisfaction in his loss. Aang felt this with his seismic sense, he intended to retaliate when a screech immobilized both of them.
"CAAAAAAAAAAAAW!"
Aang felt his body become lighter than air as his vision was invaded with darkness, he could have sworn he had seen a giant owl before he passed out. It wouldn't have been the first time…
. . .
Deep within the Kokiri Forest of Hyrule, there stood a giant tree, one that served as the guardian spirit of the forest. He was known as the Great Deku Tree. In this forest, each of the Kokiri children who lived in the forest had their own guardian fairy.
There was, however, one boy who did not have a fairy…
Link tossed and turned, his dream beginning to turn into a nightmare.
He could see a giant drawbridge lowering, three triangles, and what seemed to be a horse fleeing with two passengers. Link stood with a blue fairy and a few other people he had never seen before. The white horse passed him, and he locked eyes with the girl riding, she seemed to roughly be around his age.
Link felt an ominous presence, he turned around to find a menacing man with green-tinted skin and fiery red hair. His dark armored horse roared, standing on its hindlegs after he crossed the bridge. Behind the scary man sat a menacing figure of another young girl, her eyes glaring crazily.
Link looked around surrounded by multiple individuals, all strangers varying in size…
The man raised his palm to Link, and the green boy's eyes widened in fear as his hand approached closer.
"Hello, Link! Wake up!" The fairy tapped said to him, causing Link to stare in confusion. "The Great Deku Tree wants to talk to you!"
"Hey! C'mon!" The fairy began to hit him repeatedly, "Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy boy?"
Link yawned as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, and dragged himself into a sitting position, facing his houseguest. "You finally woke up! I'm Navi the fairy!" The blue fairy introduced, giving a small twirl.
"The Great Deku Tree asked me to be your partner from now on! Nice to meet you!" She perched herself on his shoulder, "The Great Deku Tree has summoned you! So let's get going…" When Link continued to sit there she began to poke his face, "Right now!"
Link shrugged and hopped out of bed, leaving through the door. Up on the balcony of his treehouse, Link overlooked the forest, there were various buildings made to occupy the Kokiri children. They were mostly hollowed-out trees that they decorated and put furniture in. His attention shifted to the green-haired girl running towards him.
"Yahoo! Hi, Link!" The green-haired girl, Saria, called.
"Better get down there." Navi fluttered down, knowing Link would take a second getting down the ladder. Link meanwhile, backflipped off his balcony and expertly landed on his two feet safely on the ground.
Saria giggled at his actions as Navi gaped. "Wow! A fairy!" Saria commented.
"Did you just not see that?" Said fairy gestured to the capped boy, "I don't think any normal kid can do that!"
"You get used to it." Saria waved it off and turned back to Link, "Finally, a fairy came to you. That's great news, I am so happy for you!"
Saria grabbed the new fairy boy by his shoulders, "Now you're a true Kokiri, Link!"
"That's great and all, but we need to see the Great Deku Tree right away." Navi interjected, ready to go back to her mission.
Saria let go of Link, "Is that right? The Great Deku tree has summoned you?" The Kokiri girl asked Link, who nodded enthusiastically, "It's quite an honor to talk to the Great Deku Tree!"
Saria was ready to wave him off when she remembered something, "Oh, Link! It seems we have a visitor in the forest today!" She clapped her hands together, "He's not like anyone here…"
Link quirked his eyebrow, confused as to why someone would be visiting, especially when the woods could be dangerous, people can get lost if they're not careful.
Navi tugged Link by his shirt, "Great. Deku. Tree!" She pulled with each word, "Waiting! Let's go!" She tugged with all her might, and to her credit Link did slightly stumble.
"He awoke not too long ago, unfortunately, he has no memories and is trying to go see the tree." Saria explained before helping Navi push Link, "I'll wait for you here. Get going! To the Great Deku Tree!"
"You'll be able to tell who he is!" Saria called, "He's hard to miss!"
. . .
"I told you I need to see the Great Deku Tree, it's urgent!" Aang pleaded to the angry Kokiri boy.
Link slowly inched toward the entrance while the boy was distracted. Unfortunately, the Kokiri noticed him and immediately stomped in front of his path, "Hey, you Mr. No-Fairy!" He thrust his finger to Link's chest.
"What's your business with the Great Deku Tree?" He questioned, before crossing his arms, "Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!"
Link rolled his eyes, before simply pointing up, Navi was plainly floating, boredly waiting for the conversation to end, "Hey. We really need to see The Great Deku Tree. I was sent here personally to see to it..."
"WHAT?! You've got a fairy?!" The Kokiri gasped, "The Great Deku Tree actually summoned you?"
"WHAAAAAAT?!" He gripped the sides of his head in frustration, calming himself, though still angry, he stomped. "Why would he summon you and not the great MIDO?!" The Kokiri boy, Mido, crossed his arms dejected.
"He summoned me too!" Aang called, bending the truth. Mido gave him a stink eye, not believing the outsider. Link, who had been staring intently at Aang, nudged Navi, who shook her head. He gave her the puppydog eyes, and just like that she groaned, "Fiiiiiine…"
Flying onto Aang's shoulder she leaned against his face, "The Great Deku Tree wants this guy too."
"This isn't funny…" Mido muttered before looking them up and down, "I can't believe it! You aren't even fully equipped yet! How do you think you're going to help the Great Deku Tree without both a sword and shield ready? At least the outsider had the sense to bring a staff!" He gestured."
Link placed a hand on his hip and quirked his eyebrow, Mido averted his gaze "You're right- I don't have my equipment ready, but…"
"Wait, he didn't say anything and you understood him?" Aang checked to make sure his ears were clean, slightly confused.
"You get used to it." Mido shrugged, he faced Link again, "If you want to pass through here, you should at least equip a sword and a shield! Sheesh!"
. . .
Link, Navi, and Aang each walked off, they tried to use numbers to their advantage, but Mido would just stop one of them so the other couldn't get through.
"Alright stranger, let's walk and talk." Navi said as they walked down the path. "First thing first, state your name and occupation for the record."
Aang sweatdropped slightly, "My name is Aang and…" Aang paused, "That's all I remember actually…" He scratched his head.
The fairy flew closer to him, "Amnesia, huh?" Aang nodded in response, "Yeah, and I lost my memory too."
"Oh no…" Navi slapped her forehead. Aang laughed, "I'm just kidding, I know what amnesia means."
Navi backed off, "Well I'm Navi." She introduced, "And this is-" She noticed her new partner wasn't next to her, instead he was running around in some long grass. "That's Link…"
The pair strolled over to Link, "Hey Link, this isn't the time to be messing around." Navi scolded, as Link held out his hands. In them were glittering gems, "Oh, you were collecting rupees! Nice thinking Link!" Navi complimented, "How many did you get?"
He handed the rupees to Navi, "Six…" Link beamed at her, as she floated silently, "We should probably get go-" She was cut off as a Kokiri girl ran up to them.
"OH! A fairy finally came to you!" The Kokiri girl exclaimed excitedly, "Now you have a lot to learn!"
"Rude." Navi commented, not liking being cut off.
Link nodded enthusiastically as the girl continued, "The best place to go learn some new skills is in the Forest Training Center. It's on the hill just above here."
Navi flew up to Link who pointed up the hill, "Link we really should be gathering equipment to get past Mido."
Link gave a thumbs-up, tilted his head towards the training ground, and ran up the hill with no hesitation. "He said to follow him to the Forest Training Center, to go through the hole." The Kokiri girl informed the two, who stared blankly at her.
"He did?" Aang asked, cleaning out his ear, "I must've missed it."
"Oh, Link doesn't really talk most of the time." The girl replied, "You get used to it."
Aang and Navi walked away from the girl and walked up the hill. "You know, I've gotten that a few times today." Navi mentioned.
They watched Link hop over some fences in the Training Center and crawl through a hole in the wall. Walking through the fence openings, they reached the wall, which had a sign next to it.
Aang squinted at the sign, "What does this say?" Navi turned to him and tilted her head, "You can't read it?"
"I guess not." The tattooed boy replied. Navi put on her reading glasses, "It says, "Hole of L. Let's go through this small hole!"" She read.
Aang shrugged, "If you say so." He crawled into the hole, shimmying himself through.
"No, that's literally what the sign said." Navi clarified, flying through the entrance.
After making it through the other side of the tunnel they were in a walled-off area with narrow passageways, there were also two rolling boulders that could be seen following a set path, Aang stared at the oncoming boulders and felt an itch in his brain.
"Get in your horse stance." A girl dressed in green stomped at Aang, "I'm going to roll that boulder down at you. If you have the attitude of an earthbender, you'll stay in your stance and stop the rock, like this!" She thrust her arms forward, her stance firm.
"Aang, let's go." Navi nudged him forward, "Link has to be up ahead." She flew up ahead and the two waited for the gap between the boulders to cross, before finding the area where Link was sitting on a large treasure chest, he waved happily to them and hopped off the chest. Turning around he opened the lid and reached deep inside.
"How is it glowing like that?" Aang asked, trying to take a peek inside.
"Da na na naaaa…." Navi sang as Link raised a sword above his head, "You got the Kokiri Sword!" The fairy announced, "This is a hidden treasure of the Kokiri, but you can borrow it for a while. Be sure to practice with it before you really fight!"
"Why did you announce it like that?" Aang asked the fairy who merely shrugged, "It felt right."
Link sliced through the air happily testing his new sword. It was a small blade really, and a red gem was embedded on the upper hilt of the sword with the actual handle being wrapped with a cloth. Link giddily ran, making his way toward the entrance, but he tripped with a boulder heading straight for him.
"LINK!" Navi cried, trying to pull the boy up. Aang rushed by their side in an instant leaving a trail of dust behind him, surprising the pair. 'Get in your horse stance.' Aang spread his legs evenly, 'And stop the rock, like this!' Aang heard the girl's voice in his ears as he thrust his arms forward, stopping the rolling boulder in its tracks.
Link scrambled to get up, running backward, not taking his eyes off Aang who pushed back against the boulder, his feet skidding back a bit as the second boulder tried to force its way through.
"Aang!" Navi called worried, as she and Link made it to a safe distance. Aang noticed this, and jumped up into the air, gaining a respectable height as he jumped onto the boulder, his legs stepping to balance on the rolling rock. He jumped off and landed softly next to the pair.
Navi's eyes were bulging and her mouth was wide open as she stared at the amnesiac who dusted himself off. "Wha- HOW?!" Link excitedly jumped up and down, clearly impressed with the display of power.
"I don't know, I saw Link about to get hurt and just moved to protect him." Aang shrugged, "I think a friend taught me how to stop rolling boulders, something called… earthbending."
Navi shook her head, "You must've been with some Gorons." She lit up, literally, "Hey! You remembered something at least!"
The trio crawled through the hole once more, returning to the training grounds.
"Alright, sword." Navi knocked on the blade, "Check." She pulled out a notepad and placed a check next to the word 'SWORD' right underneath said 'SHIELD' and right about those two she had written 'Note to self: Link, Aang DO NOT FORGET'.
The boys watched her flip back a page, "Oh, hey what do you know? I was actually supposed to pick you up too." She said pointing her pen at Aang.
Aang perked up, "Wait, really? And you forgot?"
Navi glared at him then shook her head slightly, "Well in my defense I did bump into a fence before picking up Lonk." The fairy shrugged. "Anyways, let's go find a shield."
Aang and Navi began to walk away when they noticed Link focused on one of the training rocks, he unexpectedly did some backflips, some rupees appearing in the air with Link grabbing them.
"How did you know that was gonna happen?" Navi asked Link as he showed the rupees to his partners.
Link waved his hand in the air casually, the pair looked at him and tilted their heads in confusion. A training Kokiri boy noticed this, "He said that it was just obvious." The boy explained, only to receive the same stares from the duo.
"You get used to it."
And with that the trio began to leave the area, pausing only for Link thrust at a sign that said to do so and received rupees for striking it, from said sign. Navi kept her mouth shut, not questioning it as they continued to gather rupees at Link's insistence.
. . .
They descended the hill and walked toward a house with another Kokiri boy trying to clear some rocks. Link picked them up and smashed them on the ground, always willing to help the Kokiri, and received some rupees for it. The boy explained that Mido forced him to clear out the rocks.
"Talk about a power trip." Navi rolled her eyes. Link nodded in agreement having lived around Mido all his life.
He then proceeded to walk into the giant hollowed-out tree stump serving as a house.
"What does this sign in front of this place say?" Aang pointed and Navi squinted.
"House of the Great Mido. Boss of the Kokiri." Navi crossed her arms, "Talk about an ego."
"Does Link know this is Mido's house?" Aang asked.
Navi grabbed her chin thoughtfully, "Who knows what he's thinking." She shrugged.
"Everyone else here besides us." Aang commented.
"You're right and I hate that you are." Navi shook her head.
The two walked into the house, the interior had a brick floor, a red carpet, a stage with stairs leading to it carved at the end of the room, two large red vases at opposite ends of the room, and four chests.
They watched as Link approached a chest. "Hey, Link did you know this is Mido's house?" Navi asked her partner as he kicked a chest open, receiving a green rupee.
He nodded gleefully, kicking open another chest and gaining a blue rupee, which was worth five individual green rupees. He cleaned out the room, receiving another blue rupee and a recovery heart, which he didn't really need at the moment.
They walked out of the house with 32 rupees collected in total. "Why are we collecting rupees again?" Navi wondered aloud.
"Link seemed eager to get some." Aang answered.
They walked around a tree that had a ramp built along the side of the treehouse. Walking onto a narrow wooden bridge, taking a sharp turn, and walking along another narrow bridge, making a perfect right angle, to where a blonde Kokiri girl was waiting with a blue rupee next to her.
Link grabbed the rupee and placed it in his wallet. The blonde Kokiri, Fado, giggled, "Hee hee hee! You came all the way up here? You're a real man!" Fado complimented Link who smugly posed with his hands on his hips.
"Look! Isn't this view pretty?" Fado asked. Navi shrugged, "I'm used to being high up so this isn't too special-" Navi was cut off as Fado spoke once more.
"Change your viewpoint with the eye button so you can look at the forest with the circle pad." The purple-eyed Kokiri leaned instructed, leaning forward.
Navi backed away slightly, "What does that even mean-" she cut herself off as she watched Link's head looking around every direction.
"You actually got what she meant?" Aang asked the boy who moved his head up and down.
Fado smiled as Navi narrowed her eyes, "You get used to it." Navi seemed to add another tally to her notepad. Link and Aang jumped back onto the ground with Navi flying after them.
. . .
Walking through the little village, they came upon a little area of water with three pillars of earth raised, sticking just slightly above the water. Link pointed at the stepping stones, before hopping to one another receiving another five rupees from seemingly nowhere.
"I'm not even gonna point out how that doesn't make sense." Navi commented, flying over the gap of water.
"But you technically just did." Aang simply jumped over the gap having no problem whatsoever.
"Don't turn against me Aang." Navi warned.
They walked over to a decorated Kokiri building. "Hi, Link! Look this way!" A Kokiri girl called up from the awning. "Look over here with L, and talk to me with A."
"That doesn't make sen-" Navi was cut off once more as she suddenly rushed over to the Kokiri girl, her usual glow a darker, deeper blue.
While Navi was fluttering dazed and confused, the Kokiri girl cheered ecstatically, "Yes, yes! That's how you use a fairy! It's so great that you finally have a fairy partner!"
"Yeah… great…" Navi muttered, returning back to Link wondering how he did that.
"If you use L targeting, you can talk to people from a distance, like we're doing now. When you have nothing that you can target, you can press L just to look forward. Try it!" The Kokiri girl insisted. Link looked straight ahead, before sidestepping back and forth, his gaze never leaving the entrance.
Navi dragged Link into the building, her patience reaching its limit, with Aang laughing as he followed the two.
Inside the building was a shop. The room had a store clerk jumping up to see over his counter. "Welcome!" He greeted, as Link waved. Approaching the Kokiri clerk, the three looked at his inventory. He was selling a variety of nuts, seeds, sticks, arrows, and a shield!
"How convenient." Aang smiled.
Link tapped on the counter, and the shopkeeper grabbed the wooden shield, dusting it off. "You want the Deku Shield, huh?"
"You guys have to have planned this!" Aang accused, not knowing how he would understand that. The shopkeep placed the shield on the counter, "You get used to it." And with that, Aang was silenced.
The wooden shield had a red symbol painted on it, "Yeah once equipped, you can defend yourself with R with this baby." The Kokiri informed, "Carved it myself. It'll run ya about… Forty rupees."
"Forty rupees?!" Navi gasped, "That's almost ALL our rupees!"
Link pulled out his pouch containing his rupees, and Aang grabbed it, "I got this, Navi."
"How about I give you…" He flipped a green rupee onto the counter, "One green rupee." He smiled at the Kokiri who stopped hopping for a moment.
"ONE RUPEE?!" The small Kokiri boy growled, "GET REAL!"
Aang smirked, "Ok…" He flipped another green rupee onto the table, "Two green rupees."
The Kokiri shopkeep was red in the face, "GET OUT!" He threw some of the Deku seeds behind him at Aang, who yelped and dropped the bag, rushing out of the store. Link retrieved his pouch scooping the rupees back into it.
"Wow, what a weird stranger." Navi commented turning back to the shopkeep, "...I believe you said forty rupees?"
. . .
After purchasing they rejoined Aang outside the shop. "Did you seriously think you could pay two rupees for a shield?" Navi deadpanned.
"Haggling just felt like the right way to save money." Aang rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "How's the shield?" He asked Link, who equipped it and crouched on one knee to properly defend himself.
"It's just a Deku Shield." Navi informed indifferently, "A child-sized wooden shield. It's light, but also flammable. Now let's go!"
They crossed the stream back to where Mido stood, still "guarding" the entrance to the Great Deku Tree. Noticing the trio he shook his head, "If you want to see the Great Deku Tree, you should at least equip a sword and a shield!"
He leaned forward, studying Link's appearance, "Eh, What's that?!" He pointed to Link's back, "Oh, you have a Deku Shield…" He shrugged, before doing a double take, "And what's THAT?!"
"Is that the Kokiri Sword?! GOOD GRIEF!" Mido tapped his foot impatiently, "Well, even with all that stuff, a wimp is still a wimp, huh?" He asked his fairy.
"Don't drag me into this." The green fairy named Len replied.
"I, the great Mido, will never accept you as one of us!" He pointed at Link, denouncing him. Navi turned red, literally shining red as she pushed him, "I've had enough! I'm just trying to talk to the Great Deku Tree! NOT UNPACK YOUR INFERIORITY COMPLEX!"
Mido sulked off to the side the fairy hitting him where it hurt, "How did you get to be the favorite of Saria and the Great Deku Tree?" He grumbled as the trio continued through the path.
Three Deku Babas rose from the ground, snapping at them. Aang flinched as Link cut them all down, one by one. Link held their corpses above his head, "Da na na na naaaa! You got a Deku Stick!" Navi announced, "You can only carry a certain amount, so don't waste them. It can be swung or used as a torch."
"Was it necessary to be so violent?" Aang muttered, not feeling so great.
Navi and Link continued forward, "Why get a sword if we're not gonna use it?" Navi said, sighing as she saw the disapproving look on Aang's face, "Look. We're gonna need to protect ourselves by any means necessary, there are a lot of dangerous things out there."
Aang frowned, following the two, "It just doesn't feel right… Let's just try to avoid killing things, ok?"
Navi didn't answer as they approached the closed-off clearing that the Great Deku Tree resided in.
The Great Deku Tree was an interesting being, physically speaking at least. A giant tree with a face arraying the bark or the impressive tree. The tree was elderly, with furrowed bark brows, and a wooden mustache underneath his huge nose.
"Great Deku Tree… I'm back!" Navi rose to meet the guardian at eye level.
"Oh, Navi… Thou has returned…"
"Link, Avatar… Welcome…"
"My name is Aang."
The Great Deku Tree ignored him, "Listen carefully to what I, the Great Deku Tree am about to tell thee…"
"Thy slumber these past moons must have been restless and full of nightmares. As the servants of evil gain strength, a vile climate pervades the land and causes nightmares to those sensitive to it… Verily, thou hast felt it…" The Great Deku Tree spoke his wisdom apparent in his words.
Link and Aang just stared at him, "Uh, could you repeat some of that?" Aang raised his hand, not expecting that kind of vernacular. Navi sighed at the pair, "People are getting nightmares because of evil forces growing stronger, and Link is one of the people affected by it." Navi explained.
"Thanks for the explanation!" Aang chirped as he smiled. "But Great Deku Tree, sir. Why am I here?" Aang asked, "And what is an Avatar?"
"Ah yes, Avatar Aang, the Goddesses felt thy spiritual energy…" The guardian spouted, "I am sure their plees reached thy ears. We beseech thy help, but the responsibility is not thine. I am told the Avatar is master of the four elements. But… I am afraid we must pause this discussion…"
Aang stood there letting the information settle in his head. Avatar… Master of all four elements… Goddesses beseeching his help. He wishes he could remember something, ANYTHING that could help.
The Great Deku Tree continued, "Link, the time has come to test thy courage… I have been cursed. I need thee to break the curse with thy wisdom and courage." The tree revealed, causing his audience to gasp in shock.
"Dost thou have courage enough to undertake this task?" The Deku Tree asked, letting the boy have an option, though knowing that there was only really one. Link nodded determinedly, a sparkle in his eye.
The Great Deku Tree gave an ambivalent chuckle, seemingly proud yet sad, "Then enter, brave Link, and thou too, Navi…" His lower lip sunk into the ground, creating a mouth-like entrance, much to the displeasure of everyone.
"Navi the fairy… Thou must aid Link…" The Great Deku Tree instructed, "And, Link. When Navi speaks listen well to her words of wisdom. Avatar Aang…"
Aang's ears perked up as he paid attention to the Great Tree before him, "We need thou to act as a guide to Link, thy experience will benefit him well… If thou chooses to accept our request…"
Aang nodded, "I don't see any reason why I shouldn't help." He smiled.
"Now that that's settled, let's go stop this curse!" Navi declared, urging their group forward. They took steps toward the entrance of the mouth, Aang paused, "Uh, guys… Can we try not to kill anything? I know it's dangerous… But I feel like all life is… sacred."
Navi averted her gaze, before sighing, "We'll try not to kill anything if we don't have to." She relented. "Great, a hippie…" Navi mumbled under her breath.
Satisfied, Aang nodded and the three entered the Great Deku Tree…
Well… Well… Well… Here we are with another story. I realized that Fairy Heroes Academia would take a really long time to type out fully, and I had the idea for this story and thought, "Why not just type both?" As of right now, this is based on Ocarina of Time 3D. I love the original, but this might just be easier, but it's subject to change.
I can't decide how much I want this to be serious vs how much I want to just mess around, so I'm doing a mix of both. I've already outlined key points that I want to happen and where I want to take this story. I even have ideas for a sequel because I overthought this so much.
This chapter was originally going to be much longer until I realized how weird the pacing would be with the story, but guys I am so excited to be working on this, and I hope you enjoy it! I'll be working on this story alongside my other one.
Also, I only proofread this once before posting, just like basically every other chapter I've posted so far.
