Hi! This short story takes place in the bathroom during Nick's father's funeral. I recently saw the episode and thought that the scene was missing something. It's my first story.

I hope you enjoy it!

New Girl – S2 EP20 – Chicago

She had helped him sober up by giving him water and washing his face with a cold cloth. He knew now that he should not have asked her to write the eulogy. He was too caught up in his world to see clearly. He had tried to think of something to write about Walt all night, and nothing came. He did not have a perfect relationship with his father, which he thought was the main reason for this block. He felt terrible for not being able to pay tribute to his dad. Whether he liked him or not. Plus, Jess was looking at him right now with her mad face. He didn't want to disappoint her. He had to apologize somehow. "I know you told me to write it, but I couldn't. I didn't have anything to say. You're mad at me. You've got the mad face."

She looked at him kindly. She was not mad. She only wanted to be there for him. She will always be there. No matter what. He had become one of the most important people in her life. "I am not mad at you, Nick. I am not mad at you. I have your back. No matter what, no matter how stupid it gets, and… You and I both know it can get really, really stupid." She said, sweet.

He understood where she was coming from. He always had trouble seeing the big picture and caught his attention on details. Being with his family had brought up some painful memories, and he knew he was a mess right now. "I am the stupidest of all the stupid boys." He said, believing his own words.

Jess couldn't believe how low his self-esteem was. He was not stupid. Was he not seeing that in two days, he had planned a full-on funeral, honouring his mom's wishes, without the help of anyone? She had to make him understand. "No. I'm gonna be there, and I'm gonna hold your hand, and I wanted to tell you that last night, but you ran away," she said, squeezing his hands gently.

She was perfect. She always had the right words. Jess was the most selfless person he knew. After a short silence, he responds with a simple "Yeah.", looking at her big blue eyes.

As they were looking at each other, Nick decided to lean in. Jess's breath shorted in surprise and anticipation. She leaned in, too, and their lips touched. There was no trace of passion. The kiss wasn't like any other they shared. It was slow and tender. Jess' butterflies were making a mess inside her. She knew Nick was a great kisser, but this one was over the charts. She deepened it by grabbing Nick's shirt and leaning into his body. Nick quickly wrapped his arms around her, pulling her as close as he could. For Nick, it was settled: he was in love with this crazy, beautiful, stubborn, wonderful woman. She will be his undoing.

As they were still enjoying each other, the toilet's door opened on the Elvis impersonator. He had sober up a little and was ready for the show. He didn't see the pair as he walked by them, saying, "I'm gonna meet your mom."

That statement woke Jess up, and she pulled away from Nick before running after Elvis. "Oh my god. Hey Elvis!" She had to come up with a plan and fast.
