A/N: Hello everyone, I am back with chapter fifteen of this story. Here, the events of "Geass vs Geass" are covered starting the Mao Trilogy.
Disclaimer: I don't own Code Geass
After the into by C.C. things began where they left off: the Battle of Port Yokosuka still underway. The Lancelot and Guren where still fighting until Kallen escaped into a cloud of smoke.
"Do not pursue! Protecting the viceroy has top priority!" declared Darlton.
"Damn, that was a cool getaway." said Gino.
"I'm not going out with you." stated Kallen.
Oghi attempted to contact Zero only for C.C. to response.
"How's Zero doing?" asked Oghi.
"He's okay. But he can't move now. Order a retreat. If we drag this out, we'll be slaughtered." answered C.C.
Oghi replied as Diethard appeared.
"Taking orders from that witch." grumbled Chiba.
"She was our second-in-command essentially." noted Oghi.
"Can't help but wonder who else is Oghi following." said Minami, looking at Villetta.
Lelouch was holding his helmet.
"Is that what you wanted?" asked C.C.
"Um...yes." answered Lelouch distracted.
"This is pathetic. You're so shook up you can't even issue orders. And Cornelia will..." replied C.C.
"Listen to me, my handgun is missing. Whoever has it must have taken it from me when I was unconscious." explained Lelouch.
"If that's true...it means they saw your face." noted C.C.
"There were at least two of them: one who fired and one who got shot." said Lelouch, as a pool of blood was shown.
"Shirley." said Milly, horrified.
"But, Shirley was fine. She didn't get shot." replied Rivalz.
All eyes fell onto Villetta.
"Yes, it was me. I'm sure you'll see the explanation soon enough." confirmed Villetta.
The scene cut to Shirley in her room with the gun. She was writing a letter, but her tears stained the paper so she crumpled it up. This woke up her roommate Sophie Wood.
"Shirley, what are you doing up so early?" asked Sophie.
Shirley quickly hid the gun.
"Is that a letter?" asked Sophie.
"Oh, it's nothing." answered Shirley, trying to hide her sorrow.
"I bet it's a love letter, huh? Something special for Lelouch?" asked Sophie.
"In a way." answered Shirley.
"That's so sad." said Tianzi upset.
"Torn between your love and the man who killed your father. And they're the same person. Something right out of a classic tragedy." said Lloyd.
It cut to outside then transitioned to later in the day. Suzaku, Milly, Nina, Rivalz, and Nunnally where in the Student Council room.
"You want to met Princess Euphemia?" asked Suzaku surprised.
"To thank her. I just wanted to thank her." explained Nina.
"She risked her life to protect Nina during the hotel jacking." noted Milly.
Nina always blushed when that came up.
I want to meet her too!" declared Rivalz.
"She's a real princess. I could marry into royalty." answered Rivalz.
"Trust me, it's not worth it." sighed Cornelia.
"I'm not sure Guilford would agree with that." noted Lloyd.
"I'm sure you'll never met her with such impure motives." said Nunnally.
"But the table fucker had pure intention!" laughed Tamaki.
"Knock it off." warned Kallen sternly.
Rivalz felt this was a little harsh and hoped Milly was on his side.
"Nunnally saw right through you and so did I." stated Milly.
"Anyway, I'd like to meet Princess Euphemia too if I could." revealed Nunnally.
"Where you close?" asked Kaguya.
"Very. Euphemia and I fought over who would marry Lelouch when we grew up." answered Nunnally.
"What's the matter, Suzaku?" asked Nunnally.
"It's just, she's a member of the royal family..." began Suzaku.
"And we didn't have the best record with our family." noted Nunnally sadly.
"But you missed them and wanted to reconnect with one family member you were close to." deduced Xingke.
Suddenly, the phone rang and Suzaku answered it. Lelouch was on the other line.
"Is there anything unusual there?" asked Lelouch.
"Yeah. You're not here." answered Suzaku.
"Oh great, so they're not only working together, but they're probably fucking too." said Tamaki.
This lead to a surprised reaction from everyone else.
"Why the hell would you say that?!" asked Jeremiah.
"You heard the way Kururugi said that and they're both total twink!" answered Tamaki.
"And how would you know that?" asked Rakashata smirking.
"Shut up!" cried Tamaki embarrassed.
"Shirley didn't show up either, by the way." noted Suzaku.
"We can safely assume she has not told anyone about his identity. If she did, he wouldn't be free at this moment." noted Tohdoh.
"She's honestly protecting the man who killed her own father." said Chiba in disbelief.
"Love makes you do crazy things." shrugged Kaguya.
Lelouch and Suzaku carried on their conversation as Kallen was shown reading a magazine at the council table.
"Can you give Nunnally a message, tell her I'll be home late tonight." requested Lelouch.
Suzaku noted he was out later every night.
"What's the point of going to the same school if I never see you?" asked Suzaku.
"If only I knew then." thought Suzaku.
The conversation continued before Arthur abruptly ended the phone call by attacking the phone cord.
"It appears he doesn't know about me. That eliminates one group; the military." noted Lelouch.
C.C. couldn't think of anyone else who could have been present that night and Lelouch decided to have Oghi check out the black market. C.C. asked about the blood and Lelouch answered it would take time to analyze.
"I thought I saw Shirley there." revealed Lelouch.
"The girl who kissed you?" asked C.C.
"Give it a rest, will you?" asked Lelouch annoyed.
"Just making sure I have the right girl, lover boy." replied C.C.
This got several chuckles.
"But if she was there, then there's something we need to know and we better find out fast." stated C.C.
Milly gulped not liking the sound of what the immortal said.
The scene cut to the Viceroy's palace where Darlton noted how the Black Knights seemed to targeting Princess Cornelia.
"Eliminating the leader is a standard tactic." said Cornelia, unconcerned.
"Geez, I'd be more freaked out if someone was trying to kill me." noted Oghi.
"As a soldier, I was used to it." shrugged Cornelia.
"But you had training. I was just a teacher who suddenly found himself leading a resistance group." noted Oghi.
"They also eliminated Prince Clovis." said Guilford.
"Serves that prick right." scoffed Tamaki.
"I can't help but feel like I should blame for that." revealed Nunnally.
"You had nothing to do with that massacre." said Rivalz confused.
"Clovis has a good relationship with our family and the Japanese supposedly killed us. I wonder if his brutality was some kind of revenge." explained Nunnally.
"Schneizel and I talked with Clovis after he volunteered to be Viceroy. Clovis volunteered to homage Lelouch. Clovis said he wanted to make Lelouch's final resting place as quiet for him as he could." added Cornelia, uneasy.
"Zero is not merely fighting Britannia. He has a deep hatred for the royal family, and he wants blood." stated Darlton.
Euphemia flashed back to the hotel hijacking. She was brought out of this with Cornelia saying she didn't another crisis like that happening.
"This is when I first thought Lelouch could be Zero...but, I quickly quashed it." said Cornelia flatly.
"Why not assign a knight to her?" asked Guilford.
Suzaku felt old wounds being torn back open.
The scene cut to Lloyd and Cecile. Cecile expressed concern over Suzaku's desire to save people.
"At first I thought he was just, you know, sensitive, but now...I mean it's more like an obsession, isn't it?" asked Cecile concerned.
"His performance data is still solid, right? Is this a good time to put that thing to the test with him?" asked Lloyd.
"But we're still fine-tuning. What I'm saying is treating Suzaku like he's just another part of the machine could have serious consequences. We'd better deal with the human issue here first." replied Cecile.
"I do appreciate you trying to help Suzaku. Maybe, this all could have been avoided." said Kaguya.
It returned to Ashford where Sophie Wood was in the hallway. She was clearly under the influence of Geass. Another girl asked why and Sophie said her room was being disinfected. I reality, Lelouch and C.C. was scouring Shirley's part of the room.
"Why should I have to rifling through some girl's underwear?" asked C.C. holding a pair of pink panties.
"Ooh, those are one my favorites." teased Milly.
"This is going to cost you." added C.C.
"It always does." replied Lelouch.
"I wonder if Lelouch couldn't bring himself to search though her underwear drawer. Hence why C.C. is." proposed Kaguya.
"Aw, he cared about her personal space." cooed Milly.
"Or he wasn't a perv." said Kallen, glancing at Tamaki.
"What's that mean?!" asked Tamaki, offended.
"I think it might be both." said Nunnally.
C.C. sat down on Shirley's bed with her diary while noting the gun wasn't here.
"Her diary only goes up to the fourteenth." added C.C.
"Fourteenth?" asked Lelouch.
"Yeah." confirmed C.C.
"That's the day her father died." noted Lelouch.
Lelouch dropped a box and a bunch of photos of himself fell out.
"That's creepy." said Minami.
"You've never been madly in love before?" asked Kaguya.
"With someone your own age." muttered Sugiyama.
Lelouch found a book listing the timetables of monorail times.
"Narita." said Lelouch.
"Nothing good happens there." whispered Kallen.
The scene cut to Narita where Shirley approached the newly installed monument to the (Britannian) victims of the battle and landslide including her father.
"Lulu, how could you do this?" asked Shirley.
"Yes, how could he?" asked a voice.
Nunnally tensed up.
"It is him." whispered Nunnally tensely.
"Are you alright?" asked Sayoko discreetly.
"I'll be okay." answered Nunnally.
Shirley turned around to see the mysterious man who was seen in the last two episodes.
"About time we find out who this guy is." said Gino.
"A very fine memorial, isn't that right, Miss Shirley Fennette?" asked the man.
"How does he know her name?" asked Rivalz concerned.
"Maybe he was stalking her." proposed Anya.
"Based on what we've seen, it's more likely he's stalking C.C." realized Kallen angrily.
It cut to the Black Knights in their mobile base. Tamaki noted how close they were to capturing Cornelia.
"Next time, I'll beat that white Knightmare." stated Kallen.
"And in the end, she did." noted Rakshata.
"How dare she besmirching my poor Lancelot." groaned Lloyd.
The others made fun of how easily Tamaki was beaten, but Oghi seemed distracted.
"The JLF warship...why did it blow up?" asked Oghi.
"It self-destructed." answered Tamaki.
"We did contact them and say we would help, right?" asked Oghi.
"Yo, that's why Zero took action. I know, I bet they wanted to see his face!" laughed Tamaki.
"You're not doubting Zero again, are you?" asked Kallen.
"I should have listened to my worries. I was their leader, but I let some stranger barge in and take over." thought Oghi, guilty.
"It's just that the timing was too convenient, right? So, what are you going to do if you find out Zero was behind it?" asked Diethard.
"I should have smacked that stupid smile off his face!" declared Tamaki.
"However, he was correct in his assessment." noted Xingke.
"I heard you got wussy and ran away. A gutless Brit's got a lot of cojones talking trash to his superior like that." said Tamaki.
Diethard replied he was making an assessment as that was his new job.
"Oghi, you agreed to it to, didn't you?" asked Diethard.
"That's right, and Zero did approve it." answered Oghi.
"Some leader I was." sighed Oghi softly.
The scene cut to Lelouch and C.C. on a train to Narita. C.C. was asking Lelouch questions about Shirley, but he was giving clearly uneasy and on edge. However, it was C.C.'s change of wardrobe that garnered the most attention.
"What the hell is she wearing?" asked Gino.
"It's quiet the bold fashion statement." said Cecile.
"You Brits got weird taste." said Sugiyama.
"Hey, most of us don't dress like that!" declared Rivalz.
"She looks like a cross between a French maid and a Vietnamese hooker!" declared Tamaki.
"What if she really does know? Are you going to kill her?" asked C.C.
"He wouldn't." said Milly.
"Right now." replied Cornelia.
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Rivalz uneasy.
"Miss Fennette's cause of death might not have been suicide." answered Cornelia.
"Lelouch would never hurt Shirley!" declared Milly.
"I'm sure Euphemia thought the same thing." replied Cornelia bitterly.
"If you have someone you don't want to lose you should keep them at a distance." said C.C.
"So is that...from experience?" asked Lelouch.
"No. It's a way of life." answered C.C.
"Ah, classic hedgehog's dilemma." said Lloyd.
"What's that?" asked Tianzi.
"In winter, it is common for animals to huddle together for warmth. However, they must maintain a distance due to their sharp spines." answered Lloyd.
The scene returned to Narita and Shirley with the mystery man.
"He's a cruel man, isn't he?" asked the man.
"Who is this person?" asked Nina concerned.
"Whoever he is, he's right about Lelouch." stated Chiba.
"His name is Mao." revealed Nunnally.
"How do you know that?" asked Cornelia, worried.
"You'll see." answered Nunnally flatly.
"He deceived you. Never told you he's Zero." continued Mao.
"Who are you? What do you want?" asked Shirley scared.
"The same mouth that ordered your father's death stole a kiss from your tender lips. He's a very bad man, and you like it. Punishment must be measured out. To him. And to you." said Mao.
"That..." began Milly angrily.
The scene flashed back to right after Shirley found out Lelouch was Zero. Villetta arrived and was ecstatic to have seemingly captured Zero.
"When I bring him to Viceroy Cornelia, she'll make me a noble! Not just a knight of honor, real nobility!" declared Villetta.
Villetta could only shake her head at her past status-obsessed self.
Villetta turned around saw Shirley was aiming the gun at her.
"He's your boyfriend, isn't he?" asked Villetta angrily.
Villetta moved toward Shirley who shot her. The flashback then ended.
"Looking back, it's actually touching she would do anything to protect the boy she loved. Even if he was a monster." said Villetta.
"So, you're a killer too, just like Zero." said Mao.
"No! That's not true!" declared Shirley.
"And you used your own father's death for your own gain!" declared Mao
"That bastard!" cried Kallen.
Mao continued his mental manipulation of Shirley.
"Did his sympathy make you all tingly?" asked Mao.
Milly tried her best to maintain her own growing rage.
"A girl who kills then goes fishing for attention. Only evil witches do that." said Mao.
Kaguya wondered if he was thinking of C.C. when he said that.
Shirley finally broke. Mao continued and started clapping.
"Why is he clapping like that?" asked Gino.
"Probably some freak." answered Tamaki.
"Unless you atone and completely free your heart, you and Lelouch will both be lost in your sins...forever." said Mao, as it was revealed he had Geass.
"Of course he has Geass!" cried Tamaki.
"I was sort of hoping Lelouch and C.C. were it." admitted Oghi.
"Trust me, there were, or still are, plenty more." replied Cornelia.
"If there are more Geass users they need to be destroyed." stated Chiba.
"But, aren't they still people?" asked Tianzi confused.
"They're monsters. Nothing more." said Chiba.
Lelouch and C.C. had to split up as Lelouch thought back to what C.C. said on the train.
"I hate to say this, but C.C. is right. Lelouch needs a plan regarding Miss Fennette knowing his identity." said Cornelia.
"He wouldn't kill her!" cried Rivalz.
"I'm not saying that. He could have found a way to use his Geass on her." mused Cornelia.
Lelouch was interrupted when "Shirley" called him on his phone.
"Where are you calling from?" asked Lelouch.
"Where indeed?" asked Mao.
Turned around and found Mao who threw Shirley's phone on the ground at Lelouch's feet.
"What have you done with Shirley!?" asked Lelouch angrily.
Nunnally prayed it was nothing like what Mao put her through.
"What the hell did you do to her?!" asked Lelouch demandingly.
"You want to know? Then you'll have to accept my challenge." answered Mao.
Mao pulled out a chess Knight.
"You specialize in this, don't you?" asked Mao.
"He screwed himself this time. No way that guy can beat Lelouch at chess." laughed Rivalz confidently.
"But, how did he know Lelouch played chess?" asked Anya.
Meanwhile, C.C. was talking to a guy on a motorcycle as the sun set.
"Are you familiar with Balinese art? I don't have a photo, but I can draw her in Batuan style." said C.C.
"A new piece of information emerges." mused Rakshata.
The man rejected C.C. suggesting she climb something high to look around.
"Very well. Never mind." replied C.C.
C.C. turned her attention to the cable car and spotted Lelouch along with another familiar face.
"It can't be...Mao!" said C.C. horrified.
"And that erases any remaining doubt." noted Guilford.
Inside the cable car, Mao set up a chess board as Lelouch wondered if Mao was the other person at Yokosuka.
"Calling on my mobile...was he just being theatrical?" asked Lelouch to himself.
"Pot calling the kettle black." said Rakshata.
"No, he didn't know what I looked like. That means he didn't see me that night. And he didn't have time to find a photo of me. He hasn't planed this out, he's winging it. Which means..." thought Lelouch.
"There's an opening you can use?" asked Mao.
"It's almost like that guy read his thoughts." said Gino.
"Maybe he can." proposed Anya.
"But, Lelouch can't do that." noted Oghi.
"It is possible his Geass is different somehow." noted Tohdoh.
C.C. was shown racing up on the guy's motorcycle.
"Lelouch, even you...no, because it's you, you can never beat Mao." thought C.C.
"I find that unlikely." muttered Jeremiah.
"We still don't know anything about C.C.'s Geass." noted Cornelia.
"Or what her contract is." added Milly.
"We know next to nothing about her at all." said Xianglin.
"Are we going to ignore C.C. stealing that guy's motorcycle?" asked Rivalz.
Back on the cable car, Lelouch found himself having been bested by Mao in their chess game
"How could he predict every move I make. Who is this guy?" asked Lelouch to himself.
"Didn't C.C. tell you about me?" asked Mao.
Lelouch tensed up.
"In one lightning moment, you came up with fourteen possible identities for me. And one of them is precisely correct." said Mao.
"So, this is Lelouch's predecessor. Fascinating." said Lloyd.
"At least Lelouch will have to fight a fair battle here." huffed Chiba.
Mao confirmed his mind-reading Geass.
"What the hell did you do to Shirley?! Tell me! Did you kill her?!" asked Lelouch outraged.
"Of course not!" declared Mao.
Shirley appeared and aimed Lelouch's own gun at him.
"Let the vital punishment games begin." said Mao.
"What the hell?!" asked Milly, horrified.
The scene cut to Oghi at Port Yokosuka.
"No! Go back!" cried Milly.
"Zero, you weren't yourself yesterday. Why do I have this feeling?" pondered Oghi conflicted.
"It's called instinct." stated Chiba.
"If only I had listened to it." sighed Oghi mournfully.
Oghi spotted the critically wounded Villetta and raced to help her.
"are you alright? Talk to me." requested Oghi urgently.
"So, it's you...Zero." said Villetta.
"Don't tell me you knew Lelouch was Zero all this time!" cried Tamaki angrily.
"I had amnesia and could not remember who Zero was." replied Villetta.
"I only found out right before you did." added Oghi.
Back at Narita, Lelouch and Mao had exited the cable car. Lelouch stood with Shirley in front of him aiming the gun while Mao stood behind Lelouch.
"That gun is..." began Lelouch.
"Yes, it's Zero's. Your gun, Lulu." confirmed Shirley monotonously.
"What did that guy talk her into?" asked Rivlaz worried.
"Why don't you use your Geass on her? I'm pretty sure you haven't used it on her, right? Of course, if you do then I'll shoot you myself." stated Mao, pulling out a gun.
"It is kind of nice to see Lelouch squirming like that." muttered Minami.
Lelouch tried thinking of a possible way out, but Mao's mind reading foiled that.
"This is a fitting death, poetic justice for a thief like you." said Mao.
"Thief? I don't remember Lelouch stealing anything." said Gino confused.
"He stole a uniform and gun from the Army in Shinjuku." noted Guilford.
"But I doubt that is what Mao is referring to." replied Cecile.
"Maybe, it's C.C." proposed Nina.
"We'll atone for our sins. We have to! I'll die with you." said Shirley.
"How different things would have been if she did kill him." mused Rakshata.
"It'd be a lot better." huffed Sugiyama.
"Without Lelouch, would Japan still be Area 11?" asked Sayoko.
"Whose side are you on?!" asked Tamaki angrily.
"Prime Minister Oghi already noted Zero did things he nor the JLF could." said Anya.
"And without him, the Empress would still be a slave of the Eunuchs." thought Xingke.
"It's time to end this together, Lulu." said Shirley.
"Anyone else getting Romeo and Juliet vibes?" asked Rivalz.
"Don't you mean Pyramus and Thisbe?" asked Lloyd.
Mao continued trying to manipulate Shirley as Lelouch tried talking her down.
"Why don't you shut up?!" asked Shirley overwhelmed.
Shirley fired the gun which grazed past Lelouch's head, taking a few strands of hair.
"Shirley would never hurt Lelouch on her own. If this Mao guy isn't dead, I'll make sure he is." thought Milly angrily.
Lelouch fell and the photos he took from Shirley's room fell out. Shirley saw them and resolved wavered. Mao continued egging Shirley into killing Lelouch, but she could not focus.
"What the heck is happening with this girl? Her thoughts are just a jumble now." said Mao.
"That makes sense considering the situation." noted Oghi.
"Something tells me he's not in a sound mental state." replied Kaguya.
"I'll just have to do it..." began Mao.
Shirley fired a shot that rang past Mao.
"Stop it! Just stop it!" cried Shirley.
"Fine. Consider it stopped. You two just do whatever you want.
"There's no way it's that easy." said Rivalz.
Shirley fainted and Lelouch caught her. Inside the cable car, Mao grabbed a rifle.
"What a pain. It was so dramatic and juicy." said Mao.
Milly snarked with anger.
Suddenly, the cable car began to descend and it was revealed C.C. was responsible.
"I just knew it! We finally meet again! It's you! It's really you!" cried Mao excitedly.
Mao removed his headphones and recordings of C.C. could be heard.
"That's creepy." noted Gino.
Under his mask, Suzaku thought back to what Lelouch had told him.
"Just a psychopath who wants to keep a girl all to himself."
"Mao, I never thought you would come out among people." said C.C.
"Is he a Hikikomori or something?" asked Tamaki.
Lelouch was trying to comfort Shirley.
"Lulu, I really did kill someone." said Shirley guilt-ridden.
Villetta felt terrible at the grief Shirley was going through.
"It's because of me. It's not your fault." said Lelouch, embracing Shirley.
"Oh Lelouch." thought Milly, gratefully.
Lelouch continued comforting Shirley and decided he would her forget everything.
"Shirley, I'm sorry about your father. If I could be reborn into a new life, I would." said Lelouch, activating his Geass.
"First he kills her father and then he uses Geass on her! That bastard!" cried Chiba angrily.
It then cut to night as Shiley left the Narita memorial only to find Lelouch.
"Did you lose someone in your family too?" asked Shirley.
"It was a friend, well, very important." answered Lelouch.
Lelouch then expressed regret at taking his friend for granted.
"You must feel terrible." said Shirley.
"Right now...I don't know anymore." confessed Lelouch.
"Well, the morning always comes again." noted Shirley.
"What does she mean by that?" asked Tianzi.
"I have to say I came out here for some reason, but I can't remember exactly what it was now." revealed Shirley.
"He erased her memories." gasped Kaguya.
"Maybe it's because I put the whole thing behind me, something I wanted to let go of. Maybe it was something I thought I couldn't forget. Maybe I was full of sadness. But morning still comes, right? That's why you shouldn't try to hold back your thoughts like that." explained Shirley.
"Yes, you're right. I feel the same way now. Thanks a lot for everything." replied Lelouch.
"I can't believe he erased Shirley's memories." said Gino stunned.
"You shouldn't be. This is the Demon Emperor." replied Chiba.
"Shirley seemed to remember everything...except for Lelouch." said Milly.
"Lelouch said he and Shirley got into a fight and was pretending not to know him." said Rivalz, as the realization hit.
"I think we know what really happened now." sighed Milly.
"Despicable. Using his Geass on her like that." spat Cornelia.
"I think Lelouch's reasoning was removing the pain by removing her memories." noted Kaguya.
"Dealing with the trauma is the better approach." said Rakshata.
"What about this Mao?" asked Xianglin.
"How do we know he wasn't working for you guys?" asked Tamaki.
"Going over government records, we found evidence the Eunuchs knew this man or knew of Geass." answered Xingke.
"Another victim of Geass." said Chiba.
"Victim nothing. I won't feel bad after what this guy did to Shirley." stated Milly firmly.
"Then you won't like what will happen to me." thought Nunnally.
"Let's continue." said Zero.
A/N: That's where we'll end things for now. For the record, I am not a Lelouch x Suzaku shipper. I'm Lelouch x CC all the way though Lelouch x Kallen is fine too. The part about Clovis is from "The Imperial Siblings" audio drama.
