I'm sorry, Kurt

Chapter 1: Quinn's Gone

Noah Puckerman held his daughter, Lucy, as he sat next to Kurt and Blaine Anderson, tears streaming down his face. He turned to Kurt and said, "I'm sorry, Kurt, for everything I put you through after your mom passed away."

He chuckled a bit as Burt Hummel approached them. Noah asked, "Mr. H, did Quinn ever show you my gun collection?"

Burt laughed and replied, "You realize I was joking about having the same guns, right?"

He looked at Lucy and asked, "So, Puck, should I start calling you Mr. P now?"

Noah laughed as Kurt shot Burt a glare. He then reassured Kurt, "Don't worry, Kurt. I still have my paintball gun and a Super Soaker. Besides, she has a good ten years before I will be as overprotective as your dad was. Plus, I have a huge bladder, and yeah, those water balloons all came from me."

Blaine watched Tracy as she played with Rachel, causing Noah to chuckle as Kurt exclaimed, "Really, Blaine?!"

Before Noah and Burt said in unison, "Stop worrying, Kurt. If you keep worrying, you'll give yourself a heart attack." as Blaine tried to stifle his laughter. Soon, Noah fell silent, and the men noticed him sobbing quietly.

He soon began to weep openly as Rachel took Lucy into her arms. Noah then stormed out. Kurt and Blaine found Noah standing at Elizabeth Hummel's grave, yelling, "I'm sorry for everything I did to Kurt, okay! I'm not like Burt, Elizabeth! I can joke about it forever, but I can't do this! Quinn was right to give up Beth! I should never have tried to date her! I killed her by getting back together with her that second time, and I will just be a disappointment to Lucy too."

He then fell to his knees, sobbing. Soon, Kurt and Blaine were carrying him to Blaine's car. Noah lay down in the back, saying, "I'm sorry, Kurt." He cried until he fell asleep.

When Noah woke up, he was in bed and saw Burt standing in the doorway holding Lucy. As Burt looked at Lucy, he said, "It took me a while to find someone who made me feel the way Elizabeth did, Puck. I know you're not like me, Carole, or Rachel. I also know this little girl needs you to be strong for her. I was drowning myself in my work and letting Kurt get away with a lot. Ha, I bet you'll be a lot of boys' worst nightmares in thirteen years, and please don't yell at Elizabeth again. You can vent to me, but not her. Ha, she's heard enough from Kurt, I'm sure."

Noah chuckled and said, "I introduced myself as the Neanderthal that reminded Kurt of you. Ha, I followed him there after Quinn got pregnant with Beth."

Soon, Noah was throwing things around the room, yelling, "Why did you have to take her, you son of a bitch?! I know I wasn't the best boyfriend, and I tried to be the best husband for those six months we were together! But I didn't deserve to lose the best thing in my life! Why?" Before long, Kurt came in with Blaine, and Burt handed Lucy to Kurt.

Then Burt took Noah to Quinn's grave, not far from Elizabeth's. Noah fell to his knees and wept for half an hour, never noticing Marley had come over with Jake. Then Jake said, "Blaine told me about your wife after the funeral, and I thought I would check on Puck. I know it's not easy losing Quinn like that."

Soon, Noah tackled Jake as he yelled, "What do you know about easy? Do you think it was easy for me to watch my dad leave my mom for your whore of a mother? Do you think it was easy to watch Quinn's life slip away? While she was in a coma for two months? Do you think it's easy for me to go around town and not be reminded of Quinn everywhere I go? Losing Quinn is like a bullet to my heart and the fact that Lucy looks so much like Beth tears me up inside!"

Suddenly, Sam and Mike pulled Noah off of Jake. Then Sam said, "Man, taking your anger out on Jake won't bring Quinn back."

Noah looked at Burt before he headed to his truck and said nothing. As Burt said, "Give him time, son. Remember how it took him and Rachel a while to get over Finn? We need to be there for him and help him through this."

Later, Noah watched Lucy sleep, as Burt sat beside him. Then Noah said, "I was taking out my anger on Kurt and all the other kids I bullied after my dad deserted us. When I got Quinn pregnant, I stupidly thought I could be a better dad than him. Then she lied to Finn and gave Beth away to Shelby. I wanted Beth as much as Quinn did, but we both knew we were too young to raise a kid."

Then he looked at Burt and asked, "Mr. H, why aren't you in Washington now?"

Burt looked at Lucy and said, "I stepped down because my new granddaughter needs me to keep her dad from going downhill. Puck, you became my son when Finn did. Besides, we both know Lucy will say what Kurt would always tell me before you know it."

Noah chuckled and said, "I'm so glad Kurt wasn't into me back in high school, and I think Blaine is glad I'm still straight. I'd probably be like you even if I were gay."

Then they heard Kurt panicking again as Blaine held Tracy, who whispered, "Uncle Nono, if a boy I like doesn't wet himself, meeting you or Grandpa Burt, that boy will be my boyfriend. I bet Lucy will pick her boyfriend the same way, and I'll try to keep Auntie Tana away from her." This made Noah chuckle as Blaine and Burt separated Santana and Kurt, who were yelling at each other.

Noah did what he could to get through the day without breaking down. He tried to stay strong for Lucy, but some days were harder than others. One day, Noah was changing Lucy's diaper and was reminded of Beth. Then he broke down as Burt walked in with Kurt. Noah cried so hard that he had to sit down, and Kurt finished changing Lucy's diaper.

As Noah calmed down, he looked at Burt and said, "She looks so much like Beth. How did Mrs. H get through the day after Finn's dad died?"

Burt glanced at Kurt as he said, "I can't speak for Carole, but I can tell you that it does get better, Puck."

Burt took Lucy into his arms and said, "You have to be strong for Lucy, Puck. Lucy needs you." Soon, Lucy started to cry, and Noah played "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw on his phone as he sang along.

Noah sighed and said, "Kurt, I want to talk to your dad alone. Could you take Lucy into the living room?" Kurt then nodded, saying nothing, and glanced at Burt.

Noah sighed and said, "I know Kurt wasn't a baby when Elizabeth died, but you still spent six years alone. I have been to her grave a few times since Quinn's funeral. We named Beth after her, I mean Quinn did. I didn't realize that was her name until after Beth was one. I was the one defacing her grave when I bullied Kurt. Now, I try to keep it clean. People who hate you are defacing it now, and I have been helping the groundskeeper for the last month. How did you deal with losing Elizabeth and the crap Kurt went through?"

Burt chuckled and said, "Kurt helped me until he set me up with Carole. Plus, I had the guys at the shop helping me get through the day. Mick told me that you start working at the shop next week. I still have the onesie coveralls Elizabeth made Kurt; she made all his coveralls. What do you want to bet Lucy will be like Jo from the show 'The Facts of Life'?"

Noah shook his head and said, "God, Mick joked about me being Kurt's stepbrother after he hired me. I hope Lucy is not into cars when she gets older or gets into trouble as I did. Burt, I know I wasn't the greatest friend to Kurt, and I should have said this last month, but I would be proud to call you Dad."

Then they chuckled as Kurt said no repeatedly before Noah said, "Blaine told me that he and Tracy have been teasing Kurt about me turning into you. Tracy even calls me Mr. P and bought me a cap with a P on it."

Noah got the cap from his closet and said, "I am glad you are working at the shop again, Burt, and I have someone to talk to. I doubt it was easy not having anyone know what you went through for six years. I don't know if I will find anyone as great as Quinn, but I bet Lucy will try to find me, someone."

Noah handed Burt a second cap with an H and said, "I bought this the day I proposed to Quinn. I didn't wear it. I thought about wearing it that day, though."

He looked at a picture of Quinn on the wall and said, "She was afraid she might die and wrote in five diaries that she wanted me to give to Lucy when she gets older. She knew you or Kurt might help me raise Lucy, and she labeled them 'Things that Uncle Kurt and your dad don't know about me.' She even put the ages she thought Lucy would need each diary, and in every one of them, she said, 'If you have more questions, ask Uncle Kurt's parents.' In her last diary, she told her about Beth. She explained why Beth was Tracy's aunt and not her sister. She also told her about Finn and Elizabeth. Quinn called Elizabeth 'Nana Beth' in every diary and explained why you and Kurt don't have the same last name. I think she hoped I would tell Lucy why we don't have the same last name and why I'm calling you 'dad' if I'm not related to you."

Noah looked down and said, "Jake told me about Dad dying last week. He would have told me that day at the cemetery. But he didn't think it was the right time."

Noah cleared his throat and said, "Tracy isn't the only little girl into movies with The Hulk in them, and I ordered us both a Hulk costume yesterday. Well, it's green body paint. I couldn't resist, and you better not tell Kurt this. But Quinn made Kurt Lucy's godfather before we knew she was having a girl."

Noah broke down again and said, "Why did Finn and Quinn have to die? I can't stand this, Burt! I want Quinn here so bad I can't breathe." He then fell to his knees weeping, whispering, "I'm not, Burt." repeatedly until he passed out.

When he woke up, Tracy and Lucy were lying beside him. He soon heard Nancy Abrams say, "I came here to check on Puck. He blocked almost all his friends on Facebook because they talked about him behind his back and said he should have given Lucy up for adoption. Rachel and Blaine have been fighting with the others because of what the others say about Tracy's crush on Puck. One more thing, Beth knows that Puck and Quinn are her parents. Mercedes said something about it on Facebook while defending Puck. She deleted the post after Puck blocked the others and asked me to come here. When she noticed Puck and Kurt unfriended Artie for making a joke about you."

Noah cleared his throat and said, "He asked Kurt if his mother had a picture of Mr. H's privates, Mrs. A. What should I have done; ignored it? I blocked the others because they were comparing Quinn to Kurt's mom and making jokes about Beth being named after Kurt's mom. Her full name is Elizabeth Lucy Corcoran, and Quinn named her that! Now! You can tell Artie and the others I am doing fine!"

He glanced at Burt before he yelled, "I am nothing like Burt, and Quinn is nothing like Kurt's mom! You got it? Yeah, I lost the love of my life and will be a mechanic like Burt! But I am not him, and I am not like my dad! I will raise Lucy alone! If they have anything to say about us! They better say it to my face! I'm not perfect, but I am the only parent Lucy has! Quinn's parents cut off all contact with me after Quinn died, and my mom told me that Quinn's mom blamed me for her death! This past month has been hell, and Artie's comment was the rotten cherry on this crap cake I've been handed! Now, I understand why Burt lost friends after he lost Kurt's mom!" Soon, they heard Lucy cry, and Nancy left as Noah went to get her. Burt soon heard "Tell Me I Was Dreaming" by Travis Tritt playing as Noah wept.
