Hi everyone! I haven't written in years but I woke up this morning and had a dream about this and thought why not put it to paper. I haven't been on here in a while so if someone else has written something like this please let me know!
The story is about Fitz and Olivia. Fitz owns a farm and greenhouse/ nursery and since it is such a large place he hired Olivia right out of college to manage the property and the staff. One day she left with only a note. Nows she's back 3 years later.
Olivia didn't think she would ever be back in town but here she is, and this time it's not on good terms. She wasn't going to but when she heard her mother was sick she had to take care of her. Ever since her death though she can't seem to leave.
It's been a year and she needs to start looking for work but in this town there's not much. Especially since his farm is the only one near and actually hiring. She thought that she would have found something by now but that doesn't seem to be the case.
She cannot even believe she is going but what other options does she have? She needs to talk to him and make herself clear. So here she is, driving to him, something she never thought she would do again.
As she arrived at the farm, she didn't want to overstep by going straight to the main house so she walked into the Nursery where there were some new faces since she left 3 years ago.
A young woman greeted Olivia as she walked in, "Good morning, how can we help you?"
"Hi! Yes, I saw your ad that your looking for a Manager. I am here to apply." Olivia said looking around thinking she might see him.
"Oh yes we are!" The woman noticed Olivia looking around. "Are you looking for something miss?"
Olivia looked back at the young woman, "Sorry, I actually used to manage here before but got called away. Is Fitzgerald here today?
"He is, would you like me to go grab him?"
"No it's ok. Would it be ok if I just walk around for a minute?"
"Of course, I am going to file your paperwork and someone will be giving you a call to schedule an interview."
"Ok thank you." She said as she started walking the greenhouse.
As Olivia walked around she couldn't believe how much things have changed here. He is doing very well and has even expanded.
She wondered if her cottage on the farm was still there or if they had gotten rid of it when she left.
Olivia started walking the grounds farther until she saw it. It looked like it hadn't been touched in 3 years. She loved it. It was her way of moving out of her family home without leaving the town she loved growing up in. She was also close to the main house without bothering the Grant family. At least that's what she thought when she originally took the job.
Olivia was approaching the cottage when she saw the door open and she froze. It was him. The reason she left.
Should she stay? Should she run? Should she, but it was too late. He turned and say her and was shocked as well.
It was almost a whisper but she could see him say her name, "Olivia?"
He started walking over to her. Her heart was pounding. Did she make a mistake coming back? She would soon find out because he was now standing in front of her.
He didn't know what to say, except "Hi."
"I am so sorry, I am intruding on your property."
That wasn't what he was expecting her to say. "Olivia, what are you doing here?"
"I've been in town for awhile. I had something come up." He could tell she was being brief with him.
"But why are you here, at the farm? You left and didn't even say goodbye." He wanted answers but didn't think he was going to get them.
"You know why I left. But that's not why I'm here." She said looking at the ground and then back up at Fitz. "I know you don't owe me anything, but…. I saw your ad. I was wondering if I could have my old job back?"
He was shocked by her question. "You what? Why?"
"I'm selling my mothers house. She passed away 6 months ago and I can't be there when she's not. But what I really need is a job. Are you hiring?" She said staring at up at him. Hoping he will say something.
"I heard that she died but I didn't think you wanted to hear from me but I should have came around. I am so sorry Olivia." He said putting a hand on her arm to try and comfort her without crossing a line.
"Thank you" she said as she looked out over the fields.
Fitz then moved a step closer which caught Olivia's attention. "Olivia, you are always welcome here. If you would like your job back it is here for you. You can even stay in the cottage again. I just need to get it cleaned up."
Olivia just starred back at him with a sigh of relief. "Thank you."
Olivia turned as she was about to head back to the greenhouse when Fitz grabbed her hand. She turned around from the touch of his hand.
He looked at her like he always looked at her. With love. "Livvie…."
Olivia started to tear up. He had a pain in his voice now. "Fitz, I can't do this. We need to be friends, nothing else. I can't do that again."
He looked at her and nodded. He slowly dropped her hand. "Give me 1 week to fix up the place and then you can start. Ok?"
Olivia nodded at him, "Thank you."
Then she turned and walked away from him again. Only this time he knows when she will be back. But will it be for good?
Please let me know what you think. I'm a bit rusty but I hope to get back into writing.
Thanks!
