Chapter 1
"Mayday! Mayday! This is the USS Nevada! Anyone copy?!" The man calls out on the marine emergency frequency, but gets static back in return.
"We copy! This is the United States Coast Guard, What is your emergency?' The radio blares about a minute and a half later.
"My name is Kei Kusanagi and I am in a storm currently on the USS Nevada. The wave swells are are about 100 feet in height and are getting larger." Kei says as he looks at the instruments in front of him.
"The USS Nevada, shouldn't this be a navy problem?" The coast guard sailor asks, with confusion in his voice.
"No. This is a rebuilt US navy ship, but does not belong to the navy, this is a privately owned ship." Kei responds as a large wave rolls across the bow.
"Understood, how many people are on board?"
"It is just me. the ship can be operated by one-two people, but I am the only one on board." Kei explains.
"Understood, we are launching a helicopter to you now." The sailor responds. Kei looks up and his eyes widen and he pales. he shakily reaches for the mic.
"C-Coast guard, this is the Nevada, call off your helicopter. You won't find me, there is a wave that is taller than my ship and probably a mile or two long. I want you to tell my family that I love them and that I am sorry." Kei says as he drops the mic and has a tear run down his face as he closes his eyes.
The wave hits and the bow of the Nevada rises towards the sky taking the ship towards the curl of the wave, and the Nevada falls from the curl and into the ocean upside down and it disappears off all radars that had been tracking the ship from shore and from any large ships that had radar on board.
USCG
"Kei! Kei! Come in Nevada!" The coast guard officer calls on the radio, but is only met with static as a reply. With a sigh he turns to his fellow sailor. "Call back the helicopter, that ship is on its way to the bottom." He says, as his superior stands behind over watching the incident.
"I will work on tracking down his family. what was his name?"
"Kei Kusanagi sir."
"Thank you." The commander officer walks over to a desk and picks up a phone. "I need the information on a Kei Kusanagi and anything on a rebuilt USS Nevada, that would be privately owned."
"Yes sir." He hears before he hangs up the phone and releases a deep sigh.
Earlier that day
Be gees stayin' alive ringtone starts to play.
"Ugh." A voice groans as they fumble for the phone and are blinded by the light from the screen. "Hello?"
"Kei? Where are you?" A female voice on the other end asks.
"Mom, I'm 150 miles from Panama. I won't be to Long beach till tomorrow. So what's up mom?" Kei asks.
"I was calling to see where you were, because there is a storm coming towards California." Kei's mom says.
"Mom relax I have the weather report I'll be Long beach the day after it. It is nowhere near my route." Kei says as he gets out of bed and hears his mom calm down.
"Okay. Please be careful?" She asks.
"Okay mom." Kei says.
"Bye Kei. I love you." She says.
"I love you too mom." Kei says hanging up unaware that that was the last time he would be in contact with his family.
