The first time she met a tall lanky man whose eyes were blindfolded occurred during her visit to one of the renowned shrines in Tokyo.
It's not something that is worth remembering really. It's not like a dramatic slow-motion moment when their eyes meet, as seen on TV. They are not even standing beside each other. But she noticed him the moment she arrived at the shrine.
He stood with his hands in his pockets, gazing through the shrine.
And he was someone who was hard to miss. With his standout features: white hair, an uncommon sight, a black outfit, and eyes concealed by a blindfold.
'Could he really be blind?' She wondered. As far as Kagome knows, only blind individuals cover their unseeing eyes.
Even if he wasn't, he'd have a hard time blending in.
However, what caught her attention initially wasn't his distinctive appearance.
It is his power that radiates around him, so immense that she has never felt anything like it before and It's oppressive to her own energy, causing a prickling sensation on her own skin.
And with his attire, she recognizes that he was one of the sorcerers her grandpa always talked about at the dining table. Their duty is to exorcise curses that arise from harboring negative emotion.
If a sorcerer was here, then she had to hide. The reason she came here was because of the mysterious three missing people. She had been secretly investigating all of the mysteries that might have involved the supernatural after she came back from the feudal era.
It's better if the sorcerer doesn't know about her existence, from what her grandpa told her they were always wary of something that is different from their knowledge. And with a sorcerer that has energy like him..
It's better not to be noticed.
….
The second time she encountered that man was at the street market in Harujuku. He wasn't alone; there was a pink-haired, black-haired boy, and brown-haired girl with him.
Judging by their expressions and the atmosphere around them, it seemed like they were taking a break and enjoying themselves from their jobs. She can relate to that. Constantly being hunted by demons who wanted the Shikon no Tama, and then dealing with exorcising curses that put her lives in danger, taking a break once in a while was a welcome respite.
She couldn't help but smile as she watched the blindfolded man being embraced by the pink-haired boy.
Kagome tilted her head as she observed the pink-haired boy more closely. There were two auras emanating from him. One was darker, suppressed by the other. She couldn't help but feel curious and slightly concerned about why he had two auras instead of one, and why one of them was notably black.
"Nee-chan you're staring. It's rude, you know."
"Eh?" Kagome blinked, not realizing how intently she had been studying the pink-haired boy.
Sota raised an eyebrow when he followed his sister's gaze. "Why are you even watching them? Didn't Nee-chan always tell me that it is better not to attract the attention of those sorcerers?"
Sota was right, it was better not to do anything that might draw their gaze. With that in mind, she shifted her focus back to her brother. "Are you done shopping, Sota?"
Sota nodded. "Yes, let's go home Nee-chan." He headed towards the exit of the market.
Watching her brother walk away, Kagome knew she should move too, lest she lose sight of him. Before she turns to leave, she stole one last glance at the sorcerers. Just a quick look at their figures.
She nearly flinched when she found the blindfolded man already looking in her direction. The other three were nowhere in sight.
And he started waving to her with a smirk on his face.
Oh no
…..
There's a saying that goes 'Third time's the charm'. Apparently that works on her too.
It should be one of those days, where Kagome had done her work for the day and wanted to treat herself with a slice of cake and milkshake at one of the cafes in the area as quality me-time.
Instead she spent those with someone who unexpectedly invited himself to join her.
She just took a bit of strawberry cake. When he settled in front of her with coffee in hand as if he owned the place.
So much for me-time.
"So…" He started, there was a smirk etched on his lips. "You don't mind if I sit here right?"
Kagome did not respond, just stared at him while he smirked at her.
After a few moments of silence staring at him, she decided to humoring him, "Go ahead, I don't mind."
"Great," the smirk bloomed into a wide smile that made Kagome squint her eyes a little. "I was saddened that no one wanted to accompany me to hang out here, but was surprised that I met you here alone. A bummer that we don't know each other's name even though we met often."
Kagome raised eyebrows at that comment, "What do you mean often? We just met-wait you notice me the first time?" She thought that he didn't notice her with her at a few paces behind him.
"Yep, you were really shy huh when you saw me at the shrine." he winked at her, "Are you one of my fans club miss?"
"Fans club?" Kagome couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "Trust me, I have much better things to do than join any kind of fan club."
'Like to do a job and investigate paranormal activity.' She thought.
His grin only seemed to widen at her response, as if her rejection was taken as a playful jest. "Fair enough. I guess it's not every day one gets to meet someone as captivating as me."
Kagome blinked, taken aback by his audacity. She could hardly believe the sheer confidence this man exuded. Inwardly, she couldn't help but think, Full of himself, isn't he?
"Well, captivating is certainly one word for it," she replied, a hint of amusement in her tone. "You seem quite sure of yourself."
He leaned back in his chair, a casual air about him. "Life's too short to be anything but sure, don't you think?"
Kagome couldn't dispute the logic, even if it came from a man who exuded confidence. She took another bite of her cake, watching him with a mixture of bemusement and curiosity.
"What is your name?"
Kagome blinked, not quite sure if she heard right. "Sorry?"
"We had fun talking to each other, and we had already met two times. I think I deserve to know your name right?"
"Fair enough, then it's Higurashi Kagome," she replied, offering a polite smile. "And how about you? It's not everyday someone so ... .captivating, as you put it, decides to join me for cake."
He chuckled, the sound smooth and self-assured. "I am glad you find me intriguing, Higurashi-san. And my name is Gojo Satoru."
"Just call me Kagome, Gojo-san," She said. "So, what's the real reason you decided to sit with me today?"
He leaned in slightly, "I thought you said you didn't mind I sit here?" Still with a grinning face he continued, "And call me Satoru, Kagome."
As Kagome let the name roll off her tongue, she couldn't help but notice how it felt. "Satoru," she murmured, testing out. It had a certain weight to it that made Kagome think about how suited that name was to him.
She looked back up to meet his gaze, even though with a blindfold on Kagome knew that his eyes were fixed on hers. She can feel intensity behind his blindfold, and it made her pause for a moment, considering her next words carefully.
"That's not what I mean," she began. "I was just curious, to me you look like you have some intention to join me."
He leaned in slightly, his gaze unwavering. "You have a keen eye, Kagome. You were watching us at the Harujuku, weren't you?"
She nodded, her mind brought back to the moment he had waved at her. "Yes, I know you noticed. You even waved at me at that time."
Just as their conversation started to take an intriguing turn, the sudden chime of a ringing phone cut through the air. Both Kagome and Satoru reached for their pockets simultaneously. They exchanged amused glances as they silenced their devices, sharing a brief chuckle.
"Fate seems to have other plans for our conversation," Satoru remarked, a playful glint in his eyes.
Kagome couldn't help but smile in agreement. "It appears so. Perhaps it's a sign that we'll have to continue this discussion another time."
As they wrapped up their impromptu meeting, Kagome couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter was just the beginning of something unexpected and potentially extraordinary. She left the cafe with a mix of curiosity and anticipation swirling in her chest.
…
And fate seems to have a way of leading Kagome back to Gojo Satoru, as if it has a plan of its own.
Yesterday Kagome had the chance to meet the man that was being introduced as Satoru at the cafe. Now, their paths cross once more, but in circumstances she'd rather keep him from knowing.
She hurries through the passerby, her heart pounding with anxiety. Just as she finished her work, a message from Sota came in. revealing that he had gotten entangled with three sorcerers in a detention center. There was a tense urgency in his words.
As Kagome stands before the receptionist, her mind races with concern for Sota. It's clear that something significant has transpired. Suddenly, a voice to her left interrupted her thoughts.
"So you're the nee-chan that boy keeps talking about."
Startled, Kagome turns toward the voice. It's Satoru, his posture relaxed amidst the bustling visitors. His blindfold adds an air of mystery, but the absence of his usual smile leaves her uneasy.
"It's you," she responds cautiously. "Is Sota okay?"
Satoru's gaze holds a gravity that contrasts his usually carefree demeanor. "Your brother is in a critical condition, his spine has been fractured due to multiple collisions with a wall." he states, his voice devoid of its playfulness. "My student is the one who contacted you using your brother's phone. Your brother is in the process of healing as we speak."
Kagome's heart pounds as Satoru delivers the news. Her brother's condition is far worse than she anticipated. A fractured spine – it's a nightmare scenario. The gravity of the situation tightens the pit in her stomach.
"What happened?" she asks, her voice quivering with worry.
Satoru's gaze is unwavering, his blindfolded eyes revealing nothing of his emotions. "He saved two of my students' lives. He got injured in the process."
Kagome's mind races, trying to process the magnitude of her brother's sacrifice. It's a lot to take in, and the implications of it all weigh heavily on her.
"He also told me about both of your capabilities," Satoru adds, his tone steady.
Kagome's blood runs cold. The revelation strikes her like a bolt of lightning. Why would Sota reveal such sensitive information to this sorcerer, a man they barely know? Did he too promise her to not be caught by one of this man colleagues? Fear and confusion mingle within her, rendering her momentarily speechless.
She searches Satoru's face for any signs of deception or ill intent, but his expression remains stoic. There's a sense of trustworthiness in his demeanor, but Kagome knows better than to let her guard down entirely. Her grandfather always reminds her. The world of curses and sorcerers is a treacherous one, and she's acutely aware of the dangers that lurk within it.
Taking a steadying breath, Kagome gathers her resolve. She must protect her brother, no matter what it takes. With a determined glint in her eyes, she meets Satoru eyes inside the blindfolded.
"Thank you for saving my brother," she says, her voice strong despite the lingering fear. "But I need to understand why he disclosed such crucial information to you. And what do you plan to do now?"
Satoru sighs, his hand busy running through his hair as he seems to be looking around beside her.
"We can talk after we find a place where there are not too many ears," He gestured her to follow. "Come, we can continue our conversation from yesterday too."
As Kagome follows him, she hopes that whatever his plan is. It is not something that makes her and Sota regret in the end.
