Voyage to the bottom of the sea

Survival

Captain Lee Crane didn't know what to think about Admiral Nelson's orders having to head out to sea with a crew complement of 150. Some of the crewmembers were having a hard time getting back in time from shore leave.

Lee had been at home with his wife Gillian of six months while living on the grounds of the Nelson Institute. Gillian had become a member of the institute helping in Nelson's office.

He had been sitting in their bedroom reading a book called Gulliver's Travels when his wife Gillian came in with a courier having a message for him from the Admiral.

Lee had gotten off his brown recliner wearing his usual black and white pajamas. "What is it, Gillian?

"A courier has dropped off a message for you from Admiral Nelson." She will hand her husband the message that is going to give him some bad news.

Taking a moment to read the message by placing it on his specks fitting his eyes perfectly. "I just can't believe this Gillian. Admiral Nelson is recalling the entire compliment to head out to the South Pacific to rescue a crew stuck in a diving bell on the bottom. There are five of them with enough oxygen to last four days." He tells her calmly.

She comes closer to her husband. "What about any other vessels along with the Seaview's flying subs?" she tells him with a slight lump in her throat.

With a shake of his salt & pepper head. He will say of the following. "It's a good question, Gillian. It all depends on how far the diving bell is located. Besides, only the flying subs will be able to reach them. Since many of the research vessels are on able to send anyone down that deep." He says with extreme emotion.

"Then I suggest you get your ass out of those pajamas and get dressed to see Admiral Nelson and his suggestions." She tells him with a hint of a smile.

NELSON INSTITUE

Admiral Harriman Nelson was anxiously waiting for Captain Lee Crane to arrive into his office.

He had finished up reading up the report on the diving bell's location and those stuck inside the bell from a British science team in England. Nelson couldn't understand why this particular bell sunk straight to the bottom that has to be at least 3, 000 feet for the most part.

Nelson's housekeeper had to be around at the time, while his wife Sylvia married for the past eight years a scientist herself was in Russia with her team working on a special program for both the United States and Russia.

There was a knock on his office door located in his house on the grounds of the Institute. "Yes, Carmen what can I do for you?"

"Sir, Captain Crane is here to see you." She had to tell him as the door opened with Lee Crane to walk into the office stacked with files from all circles of the United States government and others including Russia.

He turns to face Lee dressed in his Command uniform not knowing what to expect. "Sir, I was summoned to your residence." He says with a quick curt in his voice.

"Sit down Lee, I will be giving you our new shipping orders as soon as possible. Since Sharkey and others from the Seaview had been recalling the personnel." He said with a slight lump inside of his throat.

MEANWHILE

On board the Seaview. Chief Sharkey had reported to Commander Chip Morton on how many of the personnel had arrived back.

They were standing inside the Control room with a full compliment accept for Captain Lee Crane and Admiral Nelson.

"Sir, we are only short 25 of the ship's compliment. I understand that everyone missing will be arriving within the hour. I heard from communications that Captain Lee Crane and Admiral Nelson will be here shortly."

Commander Morton says to Chief Sharkey having stayed as a CPO. "Good going Chief. I will be sure to update both of them when they arrive."

And in the meantime. in the South Pacific some 3,000 below the sea. Doctor Mendez age 64 years of age was concerned for the group inside. He had told everyone to conserve their energies with what breathing masks they had inside the large diving bell.

They had come from the London Institute of Marine Research.

He will ask of the following. "is everyone alright?" he says with compassion.

Doctor Louise Mendez his wife married for almost 20 years wasn't happy with the entire situation. "I will say for the last time Jose that I am not liking this one bit. She says sitting on the opposite end of the bell checking all of the instruments. While the other three were trying to sleep to conserve oxygen.

Grumbling mostly. "Yeah, I know how you're feeling Louise." he exhaled.

She will blurt out the following. "Do you know this fact, Jose?" she had gone back to her work writing down all of the information before giving it back to her husband.

However with the diving bell. It was beginning to move slightly off the ocean floor during a slight tremor for which the doctor and the others didn't know anything about what was going on. Louise did catch it with her instruments as she would say something quickly to her husband.

All of a sudden he was concerned while the others had woken to feel the slight change with the diving bell. Their communications had been cut off along with everything else happening to them. "OMG! We're moving!" Doctor Howard Stern shouted out after waking from his sleep. He was more scared now than anyone else. He had always hated being stuck in any type of bell, elevator, and eclectic.

Doctor Jose Mendez will ask his science friend to try and calm down.

"Are you kidding Jose?" Doctor Mendez blurted out with his comment. While the others went back to their work to find out more about the tremor below them.
