How are you enjoying this fic so far? Let me know!
"Okay, today we will be focusing on hand-to-hand combat." Sensei Yaga said to the four of us as he clapped his hands together. We were in the gym, with mats placed on the floor, so we could grapple and not get hurt. "However, there are two things different about this one." With that, our interests were peaked.
"We're all going to be shirtless." Satoru joked, but our sensei immediately shot him a glare.
"No. Shoko will be on the sidelines and will use Reversed Cursed Technique on anyone who is hurt. The second surprise is-"
"We're here!" The doors to the gym were kicked open and we all looked over to see Haibara with a grin on his face, Nanami, Mei Mei and Utahime all standing there.
"You're going to be fighting each other." Sensei Yaga said.
"This is going to be great!" Haibara skipped over to us with a smile on his face.
"Do we get to pick who is going to be fighting with who?" Utahime asked as the group stood next to us.
"No, that's why I made this!" Our teacher revealed the board he kept covered behind him to show us a tournament style chart that showed us who was going to be fighting who. I was immediately put in the second round because we had an odd number of people fighting today with Shoko staying on the sidelines.
"Why does Keitoku get to be put in the second round without fighting anyone?" Mei Mei asked about my position on the board. "Shouldn't it be someone who is already strong, like Gojo?"
"I'm glad someone here knows how strong I am." Satoru smiled.
"Don't encourage this." I muttered as I placed my face in my hand.
"What is it, Keitoku? Are you jealous that you're not as strong as us?" She teased me.
"I've got nothing to be jealous about, Mei Mei." I said.
"It's because Tsu is very good in hand-to-hand combat. She puts in a lot of practice and could probably defeat you easily, Mei Mei." He simply stated – almost as if we should all know this, but this was news to me. I didn't think I was that strong in hand-to-hand combat. Sensei Yaga finished telling us the rules, which was this was a knock-out tournament, we were not allowed to use any cursed energy, and if your opponent manages to get you off the mat, then you're out.
The first round it was:
Surguru vs. Satoru
The fight between Satoru and Suguru was very entertaining to watch because they were equally matched. Suguru got in a few good punches to Satoru's stomach, but he was defeated when Satoru managed to pin him on the ground and twisted his arm behind his back, allowing the white-haired boy to press his boot in his best friends back.
Nanami vs. Utahime
We all knew that Nanami was going to win against Utahime, but we were pleased to see that Utahime surprised Nanami enough with a jab to the face. He stopped for a second when that happened, but when he managed to easily throw her off the mat – landing on the one next to him, we knew he won.
Mei Mei vs. Haibara
Haibara was at a complete disadvantage with this fight because he was still learning so much as a first year. Mei Mei didn't waste any time when she put him on his back and put her foot on his neck, showing up that she could crush his throat if she wanted.
The second round was:
Satoru vs. Nanami
Satoru and Nanami were another good match because they were both strong and good at martial arts. It looked like Nanami was going to win, but Satoru managed to get his arm behind his back and pushed him off the mat – winning the match.
Mei Mei vs. Tsu
When it was times for Mei Mei and I to fight, we circled each other trying to get a grasp on what to do first.
"Don't worry Tsu, I won't embarrass you too much in front of everyone." She smirked at me. I admired Mei Mei because she was kind and helped when you needed her to, but there was always a price with her. It was no secret that she was calculating, but there was also no secret that she constantly flirted with Satoru. Shoko and I realized that she did that because she wanted his money, family name, and to be associated with the pinnacle of the Jujutsu Society.
"That's weird because I was planning on wiping the floor with you." I knew my 'fight talk' was lacking, but I didn't know what to say.
"Is that all you have to say? If that's what you got, then this will be easier than I thought." With that, she moved first. Her right fist came flying towards me, but I ducked underneath and punched her in the ribs. With that, her knee came flying up and went into my stomach. We both stumbled back. "Impressive."
"Just you wait." I smirked as we attacked each other again. With every punch, there was a dodge and a counterattack. Every knee was met with somewhere on the body. Our breathing became staggered as we continued to move around the mat, but a winner was not crowned yet.
"Come on, Mei Mei!" Utahime's voice could be heard from off the mat – cheering her classmate on.
"You got this, Tsu!" Satoru cheered for me.
"What? You don't want me to win?" Mei Mei asked towards Satoru, but she went for a kick and that's when I knew I had her. With that, I used her own momentum to land her on her stomach first on the mat. Quickly, I wrapped her arms behind her back and stepped on her upper back.
"It's because he knows I'm going to win." I smiled down at the back of Mei Mei's head while the others standing on the side were cheering at my win. I let go of her arms and stepped off her back. She elegantly got up from the mat, looked at me, looked at Satoru and gazed at me.
"I see how it is." It was a cryptic message, but she put her hand out for me to shake and I did. We walked off the mat and I was immediately wrapped up in the arms of my friends.
"Great win, Tsu!" Shoko congratulated me as the four of us jumped together.
"Thank you!" I thanked them.
Final round:
Satoru vs. Tsu
I had been avoiding Satoru for the past week. It was hard to do so, but I was slightly ashamed of how I behaved when we came back from the festival. Shoko had picked up on it and asked me what had happened, but I told her that I wasn't feeling very well. I knew she didn't believe me when I told her, but I didn't want to admit that I was in the wrong. As Satoru and I circled each other on the mat he said,
"So then, to get to touch I have to fight you. Who would've thought you were this kind of girl."
"Why do you say things like that?" I was shocked by his statement. We were about to fight, and he was definitely playing the mental game, but I reminded myself that this was all a game to him. He is not interested in someone like you. Don't forget that.
"What? Just trying to make the tension more tangible." There it was, that insufferable smirk.
"Can you two stop flirting and just fight already?" Haibara's voice could be heard from off the mat and we that, we approached each other. Satoru was extremely talented when it came to martial arts. He managed to dodge nearly every attack, but I was keeping him on his toes. Also, when he would try to attack me, I was dodging a good amount of his movements.
Halfway through, I saw him smile at me and look at me over the rim of his glasses. My breath got caught in my throat and I shook my head as I swung my leg to try and hit the side of his head,
"Don't smile at me like that!" I told him off.
"Why not? Does it distract you? I wouldn't blame you." He smirked as he went to grab my arm, but I noticed that he has a thing about putting someone's arm behind their back, so I dodged his move. "Oh, dodging again? You've been good at dodging me all week."
"Why are you talking? We are fighting." I said through staggered breaths as I went to punch him, but he grabbed my arm, spun me around and pinned it behind my back. He brought his chest to my back, and I could feel how hard he was breathing because of how fast his chest was rising and falling.
"You think I didn't notice you avoid me all week? After I gave you such a nice present." He whispered in my ear after bringing his lips very dangerously close to my skin. An electric shock went up my spine and I nearly stopped moving completely, but then I instinctively moved my elbow – trying to aim for his cheek, which made him spin me around again, so then he was holding both of my wrists in front of me, but I was too focused at the fact that I was now looking up at him again.
"What? You noticed that I wasn't around in-between all the other girls you walk to their rooms?" I shot back in a whispered shout.
"Oh, I see what this is about. You're jealous." With that, I felt my leg move instinctively to try and hit him in-between his legs, but he let go of me, so he could block it.
"I'm not." I shot back at him as I moved back to give us some space.
"You've got nothing to worry about. You're the one with a teddy bear."
"Ugh, just shut up." I groaned as I went forward again. We continued to go back and forth until Satoru managed to knock me over, so I landed on my back. He pinned me down by putting his whole bodyweight on me. Satoru's body was in-between my legs, so I couldn't move them, his torso was above me and he had one hand holding both of my wrists above my head while the other kept him propped up.
With his body on top of mine, I completely forgot that we were in a room full of people and our teacher. I think he did too. Then he did it again, I saw his gaze flick from my lips to my eyes. My heart began to race even faster, but he didn't notice because we were both breathing heavily from our fight. We were also both sweaty.
"You look good down there." He smirked at me.
"Ugh, you won, so you can get off." I frustratingly stated. There was a part of me that didn't want him to, but there was a larger part that wanted him off.
"You're cute when you're jealous." He laughed.
"I wasn't!" My head moved slightly off the mat as I looked at him.
"Don't worry, I was once as well." He whispered.
"Huh?"
"Okay you two, that's enough!" Sensei Yaga yelled over to us. Satoru reluctantly let go of me and stood up. He put out a hand for me to take and I did. After helping me up from the mat he smiled at me again.
"Good fight." The way he was able to flick between his many different presentations always threw me, but it really did this time because I was confused with my own feelings about what he said.
"I'm not surprised that you won, Gojo." Mei Mei said as he walked off the mat. I was left there watching him from behind. Satoru was smiling and laughing with the others as they all congratulated him on winning. He continued to shoot back his usual ego-filled remarks, but now it left me wondering if those remarks were all a façade.
Well well, a bit more tension with this fight!
