Chapter 19

Today was the day. The sports festival was starting. The stadium was filled with excited people shouting, heroes who were interested to see what this year had, and newscasters who were anxious to begin capturing footage of the action.

One hero stood out as he held an intense stare at the student entrances. The woman next to him looked around at the other heroes. Both were dressed in hero costumes, the man's covered in flames, and the woman's almost completely emerald green.

"When is this damn thing going to start," the man grumbled.

The woman checked her phone. "About ten minutes. You really think she's there?" She asked, rolling her eyes.

He shrugged his shoulders. "Not likely. But who knows." A small smirk formed on his face.

——

Class 1-A was sitting in their waiting room, talking amongst themselves. As Izuku was chatting with Katsuki and Kyoka, he failed to notice as Izumi walked up to him.

She coughed into her hand, getting his attention. He looked over at her, as she took a deep breath, calming the nerves that threatened to send her running. "Izuku, I-I…" she swallowed the lump in her throat. "I know how strong you are. You're probably the strongest in our class. But…" She looked at the floor for a moment, beginning to reconsider, before shaking her head, adopting a more confident face. "But I am going to be going after you."

Izuku was slightly taken aback. He never expected Izumi to do something like this. A small smile formed on his face as he nodded. "You're on."

Izumi smiled back, her nerves beginning to melt away. Katsumi watched the two with a close eye on Izumi. As she was, Kyoka punched her in her arm, getting a yelp of pain and surprise, causing the blonde to give her an angry look.

Izumi and Izuku looked over at the two but he shrugged it off returning to Izumi. "Just so you know, I won't be going easy on you."

Izumi nodded. "I figured. But, that means I won't hold back either."

Katsuki watched the group from across the room. He was feeling angry. Angry that no one seemed to be concerned about how much of a threat he was. He had something to prove. Meanwhile, The twin tone boy nearby was looking at his hands as fire was sitting in one while frost poured from the other.

The identical girl near the door didn't seem to notice anything going on in the room as she thought back to the dinner she had with her family last night.

She was at the table with her brothers and sister as her mother and father brought in plates and bowls of food, setting them on the table before taking their own seats. Shoto hadn't shown up. He said he had something going on but she wasn't concerned. She never felt comfortable when he was around anyways. She tentatively grabbed some food.

As she was, he eldest brother gave her that smirk she knew ment no good. "So, I hear you got to meet up with one of your old friends."

Shoka almost dropped her plate before sending him a glare. "What are you talking about?"

He shrugged, his smile never fading. "Just heard a rumor. That boy you used to hang out with when you were a kid."

Her dad seemed to know what his son was referring to. "Izuku…" he said as he looked at his plate. He looked up at his daughter and saw the pain in her eyes. He sighed as she finished grabbing her food.

"I don't want to talk about it." The sadness he heard in her voice hurt him. Her eldest brother's smile quickly faded. He rubbed the back of his head.

"Sorry. I didn't…"

"Stop." Shoka said. Her hands were shaking. Everyone could tell she was about to break.

Her father decided to change the subject. "The sports festival is tomorrow." He glanced at his daughter, before looking around. "I figured we could all go and watch."

Her sister seemed excited at the prospect. "Oh, that sounds like fun. School is closed tomorrow, anyways."

Her mother wasn't paying much attention to the conversation as she watched her daughter.

Later that night, she had a one on one talk with her daughter that quickly turned into Shoka crying into her mother's chest as she stayed there, rubbing the back of Shoka's head.

Shoka was knocked out of her daydream by the intercom, calling for everyone to make their way to the field.

Everyone began to walk out of the room.

——

It was time for the festival to begin and the crowd began to cheer loudly. Present Mic began. "Heeeelllloooo people! Are you ready to start?!" Mic got a loud chorus of people cheering in response. "Yeah! Let's get this started!"

Hisashi groaned. "Just shut up already, asshole." Mic began announcing the classes but Hisashi was trying his best to ignore the hero while keeping an eye out. As class 1-A walked out, he spotted Endeavor's brats, Mitsuki's brat, before he spotted some green hair. "What?"

——

As everyone walked out of the field, Izumi felt her nerves acting up again. She looked over at Shoji next to her as he looked down to her. He gave her a nod, making her smile.

Once everyone arrived, Midnight walked onto the stage, catching the attention of most of the audience. "Before we begin, we're going to hear a word from our first year representative, Izuku Yagi!"

Izuku looked around, surprised. "Me? Why me?" As Izuku made his way up to the stage, an angry pair of eyes watched him.

"What is that worthless boy doing here?" He watched as he walked up on stage, Hisashi rolled his eyes. "If he's the one representing the first years, then they must be a lot of worthless brats."

Izuku walked up to the microphone and cleared his throat. "Uh, hi everyone. Um, be sure to give it your all and show everyone watching what you can do. Plus Ultra." Izuku made his way back to his class, stopping next to Katsumi as the crowd cheered.

Katsumi laughed to herself and elbowed Izuku. "That's what you say?"

Izuku slumped over. "Hey, it's not my fault. I didn't even know I was supposed to speak. I had to make it up as I went."

Katsumi shrugged her shoulders. "Ah, oh well. Still, it's better than what Katsuki would say. He'd probably say something about winning or being the best or whatever."

Izuku nodded, Midnight walking back up to the mic. "Alright, let's get the sports festival underway! The first event is gonna be…!" Midnight paused to build anticipation. "An obstacle course!" She shouted, earning another cheer from the crowd. "Now would all of the classes please step up to the gate on the left and wait for the race to begin!" All of the classes did so, nerves building in everyone.

Izumi stood close to the front and was taking deep breaths, as Shoji stood behind her. Shoto stood at the front of the pack, a plan forming in his mind.

Izuku was stretching out when Katsumi began to talk. "Izuku."

"Yeah?" He asked, curious what she had to say now of all times.

"I think we should do this solo. We don't help each other." Katsumi said.

"You mean, the whole sports festival?" Izuku asked.

Katsumi nodded. Izuku looked at her, seeing the look in her eyes.

He sighed. "Alright." Izuku grew a smirk. "Just try not to fall too far behind."

Katsumi began to smirk herself as she looked at Izuku. "Oh, it is on. Hope you're ready to eat my dust."

As the two continued to taunt each other, Hisashi watched them. "She looks so familiar." He tried to put his finger on it but began to not can. "Whatever. The bitch doesn't matter. Izuku however…" he watched the boy closely, the gates seconds from opening as green sparks of lightning began to course around him. Hisashi's eyes began to widen.
