The Resistance worked tirelessly day and night to carefully plan strategies for their next encounter with the First Order. Leia's great leadership proved vital, as it always had. Her experience and wisdom guided the Resistance through countless challenges, her presence a beacon of hope and resilience. Occasionally, Poe provided valuable input, earning the admiration of many. His tactical insights and fearless demeanor inspired confidence in the troops, making him a natural leader. He often stood in for Leia on the days she was busy with Jaina's Jedi training, ensuring that operations ran smoothly and morale stayed high.
Amidst their responsibilities, Jaina and Poe managed to find moments to spend together, strengthening their bond. These moments were precious, providing them with the emotional support they needed in these turbulent times. Whether it was sharing a quiet meal, stealing a few moments to talk about their dreams and fears, or simply enjoying each other's company, these interludes kept them grounded.
Occasionally, the pair would travel off-world in a small, undercover spacecraft, knowing that the First Order primarily tracked larger ships. Taking the Falcon would have surely drawn unwanted attention. These trips were a blend of necessity and reprieve, allowing them to gather intelligence while also providing a temporary escape from the constant pressures of war.
On one of these trips, Jaina decided to visit the planet of Naboo. She was curious about the place where her grandmother, Padmé Amidala, was born and raised. Many had spoken of Naboo's beauty, and Jaina finally caved in to the desire to see it for herself. The idea of walking where Padmé had walked, seeing the sights she had seen, filled Jaina with a sense of anticipation and reverence.
As their craft descended towards Naboo, Jaina gazed out at the lush landscapes and sparkling waters. The sight took her breath away. "It's even more beautiful than I imagined," she murmured, her voice filled with awe.
Poe smiled, glancing over at her. "I've heard stories, but seeing it in person... it's something else." The natural beauty of Naboo was unlike anything he had seen before, a stark contrast to the harsh environments of many other planets they had visited.
They landed near Theed, Naboo's capital, and disembarked. The city was a marvel of classical architecture, with grand structures and serene waterways. Jaina felt a profound connection to this place, knowing her grandmother had walked these streets. Upon exiting the spacecraft, the air felt fresh and clean. The people of Naboo certainly took pride in keeping their environment safe for everyone to breathe. A lot of other planets could follow this example, Jaina thought. "I wish my parents had brought me here when I was younger," she said, taking in the serene beauty around her. "I think I'd have begged them to move us here."
"Honestly? I can picture your family living on Naboo. After all, your heritage leads back here. You have royalty in your blood, Jaina," Poe replied, taking her hand in his and giving it a gentle squeeze. He was glad to see Jaina smiling once again amid the ongoing fight against the First Order. Her happiness was contagious, and he felt his own spirits lift just being with her.
Jaina's smile widened at Poe's words, and she looked around at the picturesque surroundings, feeling a deep connection to this place. "It's strange to think about. I never really considered myself royalty. But being here, I can feel it—a sense of belonging."
"Do you think if we go around telling people that you're the granddaughter of Queen Amidala they'll believe you?" Poe asked, rather curious about it. He had never seen what the former queen turned senator looked like, not even a holoimage or holovid. They probably kept old portraits of past queens in the palace. "Well?"
Jaina laughed softly at the idea. "I don't know, Poe. It sounds a bit far-fetched, even to me. But let's find out—wouldn't hurt to find out, now would it?" she asked as they made their way through Theed's marketplace. The couple found themselves browsing a few of the vendor stands. One stand sold premium fruits and vegetables grown on Naboo, their colors vibrant and inviting. Another displayed clothing woven from the finest silk, the fabrics shimmering in the light.
Poe picked up a piece of fruit, examining it curiously. "These look incredible. I've never seen anything like them." He reached into his pocket to pull out enough credits to pay for a couple of them. He'd only heard of how rich in taste Naboo's fruit was.
The vendor smiled warmly, accepting his credits. "Our produce is known for its quality. Naboo's soil and climate make for some of the best fruits and vegetables in the galaxy. Take some more, young ones. I insist."
Jaina selected a few items at will, enjoying the vibrant energy of the marketplace. Her basket filled with the best-looking products. Those back at the Resistance will surely enjoy them. "We'll take these," she said, handing the vendor a few credits for her portion.
As they moved on to the next stand, Jaina picked up a silk scarf, admiring the intricate patterns woven into it. "This is beautiful," she remarked, running her fingers over the fabric. Silk like this didn't exist anywhere else. And it'd be a rare find if it was imported to other worlds. "I'm truly amazed. Did you make these yourself?"
The vendor, an elderly woman with kind eyes, nodded. "Indeed I did. Each piece is handwoven with care. The designs reflect the natural beauty of Naboo." She demonstrated a few other scarves, each a different color and pattern.
"That would explain the craftsmanship of these scarves. My grandmother surely would have loved them. She was Queen Amidala," Jaina said, awaiting her response while keeping eye contact with the vendor.
The vendor's eyes widened in surprise. "Queen Amidala? Truly?" She was in disbelief at first.
Jaina nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "Yes, she was my grandmother on my mother's side."
The vendor studied Jaina for a moment before breaking into a warm smile. "I see the resemblance now. You have her facial features. Your grandmother was a beloved leader here. It's an honor to meet one of her descendants."
Jaina felt a surge of pride and connection to her heritage. "Thank you. It's an honor to be here and see the place she grew up in. It almost makes me want to move here, honestly." She looked through a few more of the scarves until one in particular caught her interest. Handing over the credits, Jaina and Poe moved on.
As they continued through the marketplace, more vendors and shoppers began to take notice. Whispers spread, and soon people were approaching them, expressing their admiration for Jaina's lineage. Only a handful of these people were alive during Padmé's reign. Others could only know of her from portraits and holoimages. And Jaina was almost a splitting image of the late Queen. The recognition brought Jaina a profound sense of pride and a deeper connection to her family's history.
A young girl approached, holding a bouquet of flowers. "Are you really Queen Amidala's granddaughter, miss?"
Jaina knelt down to the girl's level, smiling warmly while accepting the flowers. "Yes, I am. These are beautiful flowers. Thank you." She gave them a whiff. The scent of the flowers was unlike any other. They smelled like a delicate blend of honey and fresh morning dew, with a hint of sweet, tropical fruits.
The young girl beamed with pride. "I'm glad you like them. My grandmother says these flowers are special to Naboo. They're called Chommell blossoms."
Jaina's smile widened, feeling a deeper connection to the planet and its people. "They're lovely. I'll cherish them forever. What's your name? I'm Jaina," she asked while extending her hand out towards the girl.
"I-I'm Irelia Dreshae." The girl accepted Jaina's hand and shyly shook it.
"That is a beautiful name, Irelia. It's really nice to meet you. What do you want to be when you grow up, sweetie?" Jaina's tone was warm and encouraging, making Irelia feel comfortable.
"I want to be a pilot," Irelia said, her eyes shining with excitement. "Just like my daddy," She added.
Jaina's heart melted at the girl's enthusiasm. "That's a wonderful dream, Irelia. And you know what? With your determination, I'm sure you'll achieve it. Keep believing in yourself, and never give up."
Poe smiled at the exchange, feeling his own spirits lifted by the young girl's dreams and Jaina's heartfelt encouragement. "Maybe one day, you'll be flying alongside us," he added, giving Irelia a reassuring wink.
Poe watched the interaction with a soft smile, appreciating the genuine connection Jaina was making with the people of Naboo. It was moments like this that reminded him of the importance of their fight—to preserve the beauty and peace of worlds like this. Seeing Jaina's joy and warmth as she engaged with the locals filled him with a sense of purpose and hope for the future.
As they continued through the marketplace, Jaina held the bouquet close, feeling its fragrance lift her spirits. The scent was a delicate blend of honey and fresh morning dew, with a hint of sweet, tropical fruits. They stopped by more vendor stands, admiring the various crafts and delicacies unique to Naboo. The people were welcoming, their smiles warm and their hospitality genuine, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.
Poe glanced at Jaina, seeing her eyes light up with each new discovery. "It's like you were meant to be here," he said softly, his voice full of admiration.
Jaina nodded, feeling a profound sense of belonging. "I think I was. It's like finding a piece of myself I didn't know was missing." Her voice was filled with a sense of wonder as she took in the sights and sounds around her.
They made their way to a quiet café overlooking one of Naboo's serene lakes. The view was breathtaking, with the sun casting a golden hue over the water, reflecting the lush greenery that surrounded them. They sat down, enjoying a moment of tranquility amidst the bustling day. The gentle lapping of the water and the chirping of distant birds created a soothing soundtrack to their moment of peace.
Poe took Jaina's hand, his gaze steady and filled with admiration. "You're incredible, you know that? Seeing you connect with the people here, embracing your heritage—it's inspiring." His words were heartfelt, carrying the weight of his genuine feelings for her.
Jaina squeezed his hand, her heart full. "Thank you, Poe. Your support means everything to me. Together, we can protect places like this and honor the legacies of those who came before us." Her voice was steady, filled with determination and hope.
As they sat there, taking in the beauty of Naboo and the warmth of its people, they felt a renewed sense of purpose. Their journey was far from over, but with the strength of the bonds they were building, they knew they could face whatever challenges lay ahead. The tranquility of the moment served as a powerful reminder of what they were fighting for—a future filled with peace and harmony.
With the sun setting over the tranquil lake, Jaina and Poe shared a quiet moment of reflection and hope. They were ready to return to the fight, determined to protect the beauty and peace of Naboo and all the worlds they cherished. The serene setting gave them the strength to continue their mission with renewed vigor.
The two sat quietly, the serene atmosphere of Naboo wrapping around them like a comforting blanket. The gentle sounds of the lake and the soft rustling of leaves created a perfect backdrop for the conversation that was about to unfold. Poe turned to Jaina, his expression serious but tender. "Jaina, there's something I need to tell you."
Jaina looked at him, her curiosity piqued by the intensity in his eyes. "What is it, Poe?" She could sense the weight of his words even before he spoke them.
He took a deep breath, gathering his courage. "I love you, Jaina. Being with you, fighting by your side, it means everything to me." His voice was steady, but the depth of his feelings was clear, his heart laid bare in front of her.
Jaina's heart swelled with emotion. She had felt the same way for so long, especially since they've been together for the past half a year, but hearing him say it made it real in a way that was both exhilarating and terrifying. "Poe, I... I love you too." Her voice trembled slightly, the weight of her feelings overwhelming her. The truth of her emotions poured out, sincere.
Poe smiled, relief and joy washing over him. "You have no idea how happy that makes me." His eyes sparkled with happiness, a wide grin spreading across his face.
But Jaina's expression grew more serious, her fears bubbling to the surface. "Poe, with everything that's happened—with my father, and then my uncle—I can't bear the thought of losing you too." Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, the pain of recent losses still raw and palpable.
"Hey..hey.." Poe gently cupped her face in his hands, his touch reassuring and steady. "Jaina, I can't promise that nothing will happen to me. But I can promise that I will always be by your side, fighting for our future. We can't let fear dictate our lives. We have to live and love while we can." His words were a vow, a promise to stand by her no matter what.
She leaned forward to meet the pilot's lips in a gentle kiss, savoring the connection they shared. "I'm very grateful, Poe. I don't know what I'd do without you." Her voice was soft, filled with love and gratitude.
Poe kissed her back, his heart full. "And I don't know what I'd do without you. We'll face whatever comes together, Jaina. I promise." His words were a pledge, a commitment to stand by her side through thick and thin, Poe took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving Jaina's. "I also want to marry you, Jaina. Once all of this is over. What do you say?"
Jaina, through the lingering sadness, managed to let out a small laugh. "Is this your unofficial proposal, Dameron?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Poe's expression softened, a tender smile playing on his lips. "Maybe it is," he replied, squeezing her hand gently. "I know it's not the most traditional setting, and we have so much to deal with right now, but I wanted you to know how I feel."
Jaina felt a surge of warmth wash over her. Despite the uncertainty of their situation, the thought of a future with Poe brought her immense comfort. "You know, Dameron, there's no one else I'd rather face the future with. Your timing might be unconventional, but I'm glad you've let out those feelings."
Poe leaned in closer, his forehead resting against hers. "Then it's a promise," he whispered. "When this is all over, we'll build a life together. No more battles, no more war—just us."
Jaina closed her eyes, feeling the weight of his promise settle in her heart. "Indeed," she agreed softly, her voice filled with conviction. "After all of this, we'll find our peace together."
In that moment, surrounded by the beauty of Naboo and the warmth of their love, they sealed their vow with a gentle kiss. The future was uncertain, but their love was a beacon of hope that would guide them through the darkness.
"Excuse me." The soft voice of a woman dressed in a handmaiden's gown spoke, approaching them slowly. She wore a kind smile on her lips, "I'm sorry to interrupt. But word has gotten around. The Queen would has invited you back to the palace. Your name is Jaina, correct?"
Jaina looked up, taken aback by the sudden invitation. She composed herself quickly and nodded, "Yes, I'm Jaina. The Queen wants to meet me? This is such an honor."
The handmaiden's smile widened slightly, a hint of admiration in her eyes, "The honor is ours, really, Miss Jaina. Our beloved Queen Delphine wishes to extend her hospitality to you and your guest. She was quite moved by your interactions with the wonderful people of Naboo."
Poe glanced at Jaina for a moment, his eyes reflecting his own excitement, "This is incredible, Jaina. Meeting the Queen - it's surely a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your family lineage."
Jaina felt a mix of emotions - anticipation, pride, and a touch of nervousness. She turned back to the handmaiden, her decision clear, "We'd be honored to meet her majesty."
The handmaiden nodded graciously, "Please, follow me. The palace is only a short walk away." She led the way, her steps measured with grace.
They arrived at the grand palace of Naboo, its architecture a stunning blend of classical elegance and regal splendor. The handmaiden guided them through the majestic halls, the walls adorned with portraits of past rulers and scenes of Naboo's rich history. Jaina's eyes lingered on a portrait of Queen Amidala, her heart swelling with pride. She saw a bit of her mother in there as well, "Wow. She truly was beautiful. I can see why my grandfather fell for her." She stared for a good while.
"And now you can see why I fell for you, Jaina. But I also do love the person you have grown to be," Poe said while placing a gentle hand to Jaina's shoulder. He too glanced up at the giant portrait of her grandmother, "So much resemblance between you two. Except for the eye color."
Jaina had blue eyes just like Luke - most likely an inheritance from Anakin. She smiled softly, "I wish I could've have met her, Poe. Just from everything we've heard from the people of Naboo, she truly was loved during her reign."
Finally, they were led into a beautifully decorated room where the current Queen awaited. She rose gracefully from her seat, her presence commanding yet warm. "Welcome, Jaina Solo," she greeted, her voice sincere, "It is a great honor to meet you. Please, sit. We have much to discuss."
Jaina and Poe bowed before taking their seats, the atmosphere charged with a sense of historic significance. The Queen's eyes were filled with kindness and curiosity as she regarded Jaina, "Your grandmother, Queen Amidala, was a beloved leader. It is a privilege to meet her granddaughter. Tell me - what brings you to Naboo in the first place?"
Jaina took a deep breath, her voice respectful, "I've always been curious, you know? See where my family comes from - on my mothers side. And with the war against The First Order raging, I felt it'd be important that I connect with my roots and find strength somehow in my family's legacy."
The Queen nodded, her expression thoughtful, "Your desire to do that, is very commendable. Naboo has always valued peace and beauty, qualities that your grandmother embodied. I will do my best to ensure your stay here is comfortable."
Jaina felt a surge of gratitude, "Thank you, Your Majesty. It means a great deal for me to be here, along with my loved one." She turned to meet gazes with Poe, flashing him a loving smile, "This is Poe Dameron, by the way. He's one of the best pilots not only in the Resistance but possibly the galaxy of our current time."
Poe chuckled, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks, "Jaina, you're making me blush. But I do appreciate your compliment."
The Queen smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with genuine interest, "It's an honor to meet you Poe. I have heard of your remarkable piloting skills. I do have a question for you."
Poe nodded respectfully, "Of course, Your Majesty. Ask away."
"Were your parents Kes Dameron and Shara Bey?" Queen Delphine asked while maintaining gaze with Poe.
Poe's eyes widened slight in surprise before responding, "Yes, Your Majesty. My mother was Shara Bey and my father is Kes Dameron. He still lives - but I have not heard from him in years since I left home at a young age."
"They were well-known and respected during their time with the Rebellion. Shara a remarkable pilot, and your father, Kes, a brave solider. My parents and grandparents spoke highly of them. And now I can see you continuing their legacy." The Queen's smile deepened, a look of fond remembrance from hearing the stories of the two Rebellion fighters.
Although Poe didn't much speak of his parents, just hearing them being praised filled him with a sense of pride, "Thank you. They truly were incredible people, and as their son, I strive to honor their legacy everyday."
Jaina looked at Poe, her admiration for him growing even more. She reached out and took his hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze, "And as I've told you before, they'd be extremely proud of the man you've become. As I am." She flashed him a loving smile while leaning forward to meet his lips with hers.
Poe returned the kiss, feeling a rush of love and support. When they pulled back, he gazed lovingly into her eyes, feeling a renewed sense of purpose, "And now I believe it."
The Queen observed their interaction with a gentle smile, "It's heartening to see such strong bonds formed in these trying times. Your courage and determination are inspiring, and together, I have no doubt you'll achieve great things."
Poe and Jaina both felt a surge of gratitude for the Queen's words. They stood hand in hand, feeling more united than ever, "Our only goal right now is to rid of The First Order once and for all, return peace and balance to our galaxy. However, I have MY own personal goal. And that is to return my brother Ben back on the light path. A promise I've made to my mother."
"A noble goal, Jaina. Family bonds are powerful, and the light of hope can often pierce through the darkest of nights. Your determination and love might be what he needs to find his way back." The Queen spoke softly, her eyes reflecting a deep understanding of Jaina's goal. She then added, "Your determination, love for your family, and your strong character, much like your grandmothers - those are traits of a leader. I believe that you could make for a wonderful queen."
Jaina felt a swell of gratitude for the Queen's words, but she also knew where her heart truly lay, "Thank you," she said, her voice filled with sincerity, "Your words mean more to me than you could ever know. But I am a Jedi, like my uncle and grandfather before me. The path of a queen is an honorable one, but it isn't mine. My duty is to the Force and to protecting the innocent from the darkness that threatens them."
She glanced at Poe, his supportive presence giving her strength, "Being a Jedi means embracing a life of service and sacrifice, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. My heart belongs to this fight, restoring balance, and to bringing my brother home. That's where I can make the greatest difference."
The Queen nodded, her expression one of respect, "I admire your dedication, Jaina. The galaxy is fortunate to have someone like you. Your commitment to your cause and your loved one is truly inspiring."
Jaina smiled, feeling an even greater sense of pride than before. "With support like yours and the strength of those who came before us, I know we can succeed. I would like to know if the people of Naboo will stand with the Resistance against the First Order."
The Queen's expression grew solemn yet resolute. "Of course, Jaina. You have our full support. Naboo will always stand against tyranny and oppression. If you need anything, do not hesitate to contact us. Our resources, our people, and our resolve are at your disposal."
Jaina bowed in respect, "Thank you."
The Queen nodded, her eyes reflecting the depth of her commitment. "May the Force be with you, Jaina. The legacy of your grandmother lives on through you, and I have no doubt that you will accomplish great things. And you are always welcome here. If after this fight is over, I invite you and your family to live here. I can make living arrangements if you so wish."
"I'll take you up on that offer. Again, thank you so much for your hospitality. We're only just here for the day, and leave tomorrow morning." Jaina confessed while her gaze turned to Poe.
"Oh, of course. Then by all means - I invite the both of you to stay in my guest chambers for the night. It's private, cozy, and overlooks the beautiful lake that surrounds us." Queen Delphine motions for one of her handmaidens to come forth, "Please do show our guests to their room. I'm sure after all that walking, they'd like a moment or two to rest. Then, Jaina and Poe, I'd like to invite you for dinner later on." She said finally before the couple were escorted to their room.
Jaina and Poe nodded in sync, both touched by the Queen's generosity, "So many thanks, Your Majesty. We appreciate your kindness and hospitality."
The handmaiden, another young woman with a serene demeanor, stepped forward and gestured for them to follow, "This way, please," she said softly. She led them to a spacious guest chamber, opening the door to reveal a beautifully appointed room with a large opening overlooking the tranquil lake. The sunlight filtered inside, casting a warm, golden glow, "This is your room. If you need anything, please, don't hesitate to ask. Dinner will be served at sunset."
"Appreciated, thanks." Poe replied, his eyes taking in the stunning view, "This is perfect."
As the handmaiden left, Jaina walked over slowly to the large opening, gazing out at the peaceful scene. The lake shimmered under the afternoon sun, and the distant sounds of Theed's bustling marketplace reached their ears like a soft murmur, "It's beautiful, isn't it?" Jaina murmured, her voice filled with awe.
Poe came up from behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, "It really is," he agreed, resting his chin on her shoulder. "And it's even more beautiful with you here."
Jaina leaned into him, feeling a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time, "Poe, this place...it feels like a sanctuary. I almost forgotten what it's like to feel safe and at peace. Before everything..."
He nodded, tightening his embrace, "It's places like this, and moments like these, that give us the strength to keep going. To fight for a better future."
"Did you hear what she said?" Jaina placed her hands above his, intertwining their fingers, "About me?"
"Hmm?" Poe asked through a soft hum while his lips found a spot to kiss on her neck.
"She believed I could be or could've been a leader - a queen. It's just so hard to believe that I could even be considered to be one."
"It is in your blood, Jaina. Your grandmother was queen here, and your mother was a princess. That alone is enough to be considered," Poe murmured, continuing his trail of kisses along her neck. He paused for a moment, his curiosity getting the better of him. "However, I do have one question. I've heard Naboo used to elect their queens at a young age. She seemed...much older?"
Jaina raised an eyebrow at his concern, though she found herself agreeing with it. "You're right. But they might've changed their laws regarding electing their ruler." She pondered this for a moment before adding, "But even so, you know I can't be one even if I wanted to. I'm a Jedi—Jedi can't install themselves into politics."
Poe gently turned her around, their gazes meeting. His hand found its way under her chin, lifting her face to his. "Well, say that you weren't a Jedi. Would you consider taking up the throne if given the opportunity?" He looked into her eyes, his voice soft but insistent. "Hmm?"
Jaina hesitated, her thoughts swirling. "I'm not sure, Poe. That's not a life I have ever thought about, regardless of where I come from."
"I understand, Jaina. You've always been focused on the present—on the fight. But just imagine for a moment, what it would mean to bring peace and prosperity to a planet like Naboo, to lead and inspire as your grandmother did."
"It's a beautiful thought, Poe. But being a queen, leading a whole planet... it feels so distant from who I am. I've always seen myself as a protector, not a ruler."
Poe nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. "And that's why you're so remarkable, Jaina. You lead by example, with strength and compassion. Whether you're on the battlefield or here in this beautiful place, you have a way of inspiring others."
She smiled, the warmth of his words soothing her doubts. "Thank you, Poe. Maybe one day, when the galaxy is at peace, I can think about what else I might be. But for now, my path is clear."
He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "And I'll be right there with you, wherever that path leads. I love you."
"I love you too, Poe."
The couple had a couple of hours to themselves, spending them talking and watching the beautiful lake. It was relaxing, and this was exactly the peace they'd so wished for to come in the near future. They savored every moment, knowing that once they returned to Ajan Kloss, the anticipation and worry about the First Order would return with them. The tranquility of Naboo was a stark contrast to their usual lives, and they cherished the brief respite.
Exactly at sunset, one of the handmaidens came to fetch them from their room to announce that dinner had been served. As they began their meal, the conversation flowed naturally. The Queen was gracious and open, answering any questions they had about Naboo, its history, and her own role as its ruler. Poe's curiosity peaked during the evening and brought up the topic of the change of age regarding electing their ruler. Delphine answered with, "Naboo's tradition of electing young queens or kings was rooted in our belief in the vitality and fresh perspectives that youth can bring. However, as our society evolved, so did our laws. We recognized the value of experience and maturity, and now our leaders are chosen not just for their youthful energy but for their wisdom and understanding of our people's needs."
The rest of the dinner was filled with more stories and laughter, but also some more serious topics. Upon hearing the deaths of both Han and Luke, the Queen sympathized deeply with Jaina. She shared her own experiences of loss, having faced the passing of close family members and friends over the years. Her words were a balm to Jaina's heart, offering a sense of solidarity.
As it got late into the night, Jaina and Poe returned to their chambers to turn in for some sleep. However, Poe could sense something was bothering Jaina, "Jaina? Are you alright?" he asked softly, wrapping his arms around her from behind as they lay in bed.
A soft sigh escaped Jaina's lips as she relaxed into his gentle hold, "There's just something I've not been able to to stop thinking about. No one has been able to give me a full answer about it."
"And that would be?" Poe's eyebrow rose in curiosity. Even if he himself wasn't Force-sensitive, he could pick up on how uneasy she'd been, "Tell me."
"During my last confrontation with Ben, he confessed something to me, but I'm so confused by it. Since I was a little girl, Poe, I-" Jaina shifted her body so that it now faced his. Her eyes fixed into the pilot's brown eyes, "There's been something inside of me. I don't know what it is - an entity? It sometimes whispers to me and lends me its power when I ask it to. So in a way, I guess, it serves me in my most vulnerable moments."
Poe's eyes widened slightly, his expression a mix of concern, "An entity? Do you think it's connected to the Force somehow?"
Jaina nodded slowly, almost certain that it was, "I believe so, yeah. But, Ben seemed to know something about it, but he was vague, almost as if he wants to keep me in the dark about it."
"Did he say anything specific?" Poe asked, gently stroking her hair to soothe her.
"He..he said that.." She paused for a moment, knowing that Poe would become as confused as her, "That I'm not one person, but two people."
Just as predicted, Poe's brow furrowed in immense confusion, "Two people? What does that even mean?"
Jaina shook her head, her frustration evident, "I don't know, Poe. See what I mean? Ben was always cryptic, but this..it felt different. More personal, more profound. He said it like it was some undeniable truth that I just haven't realized yet."
Poe took a moment to think it through, his mind racing to make sense of her words, "Do you think he meant it literally? Or is it some kind of metaphor?"
"I'm not so sure. Maybe both?" Jaina replied, her voice tinged with worry, "But I just can't figure it out. I've asked my Uncle about it, too. Completely dismissed me, yet I could sense he knows."
Poe's grip tightened slightly, a gesture of reassurance, "Maybe it's something from your past that you've yet to uncover. Your family has a lot of history, a lot of secrets. This entity...could it be tied to you somehow?"
"I don't know, Poe! I don't know!" Jaina's frustration boiled over, and she pulled away from Poe's grip, walking briskly toward the opening overlooking the lake. "I want answers, and no one is giving them to me!" Her voice echoed with a raw, emotional edge, and the intensity of her feelings seemed to reverberate through the very air around them.
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble, catching Poe off guard. Vases and other valuable objects flew off shelves, shattering against the walls and floor. The room seemed to pulse with the force of Jaina's emotions, the air thick with an almost tangible energy.
"Jaina, calm down!" Poe shouted, trying to maintain his footing as he watched the chaos unfold.
Jaina stood at the edge of the balcony, gripping the railing tightly. Her knuckles were white, and her breathing was heavy. She closed her eyes, trying to reign in the storm inside her, but the frustration and confusion were too overwhelming.
Poe carefully made his way over to her, reaching out but stopping just short of touching her. "Jaina, listen to me. You need to breathe. Focus on the calm. Remember your training."
"I can't, Poe!" she cried, tears streaming down her face. "I don't know who I am anymore!"
Poe took a deep breath, steadying himself. "Look at me, Jaina. Look at me." His voice was firm yet gentle, a lifeline in the midst of her turmoil. "You are stronger than this. You have to focus, center yourself."
Jaina opened her eyes, locking onto Poe's gaze. The trembling began to subside, the room gradually calming as she forced herself to take deep, measured breaths. She concentrated on Poe's voice, his presence grounding her.
After a few moments, the trembling stopped altogether. Jaina sank to her knees, exhausted but calmer. Poe knelt beside her, wrapping his arms around her in a comforting embrace, "There's still one last person who might know the answer you seek. Leia?"
Jaina blinked as a few tears escaped, shaking her head at his suggestion, "Don't you think she'd been keeping this from me too like everyone else? I'm not sure why they're shielding me from the truth."
Poe sighed, understanding her anger but still convinced of his stance, "I'm sure they had their reasons but it can't hurt to ask her. Listen," he said, cupping her face within his hands, pressing their foreheads together, "She's your mother - and when a mother lies, it's to protect her children."
She wanted to believe him, to trust that her mother had her best interests at heart, even if it meant keeping a painful secret from her, "What if she won't? What if it's something terrible that she doesn't want me to know? What if it changes everything? What if -"
Her words were cut off by Poe's lips kissing hers. This kiss was like no other - it was filled with more passion and love than those that came before. In this kiss, the Resistance pilot wanted to assure Jaina that everything would be alright, no matter if she got her answer or not. When he finally pulled away, he held her gaze, his eyes full of unwavering warmth.
"Tomorrow, when we go back - you'll take your chances and ask her," he said, his voice firm yet gentle, "I will not sit back and watch it drive you insane. Understood?"
Jaina's heart swelled with love, nodding at his words. A feeling of renewed sense of courage washing over her, "U-Understood," She whispered, her voice steady yet uncertainty lingering about, "Thank you."
"Anytime. Now, I'm going to ensure you go to sleep peacefully tonight, so..." He took a step back, lifting his shirt above his head before gently scooping Jaina into both arms and holding her against the wall.
Jaina, taken aback by his unexpected move, felt her cheeks burn with a deep crimson blush. It had been some time since they last found a moment to be intimate. Perhaps this was just what they both needed before returning to Ajan Kloss the following morning.
Poe didn't say another word. He gently reached out, his fingers brushing the soft fabric of her nightgown, lifting it slightly just above the waistline. Her reaction was to wrap her arms gently around his neck to support herself, "That is if you want. Are you feeling okay now?"
Jaina nods at his inquiry, feeling her breathing become heavier. "Y-Yeah. You always make me feel safe and keep me grounded, Poe." Her voice was soft but sincere, her eyes reflecting the depth of her feelings. She reached out to touch his cheek, a tender smile playing on her lips. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
"I could say the same about you, love. Now, wrap your legs around me.." Poe whispered into her ear softly. His hands quickly became occupied with removing his bottoms along with hers. Once Jaina complied, he grips her hips and gently pulls her down onto him.
"K-Kriff sake, Poe!" She exclaimed, her head dropping back between her shoulders. She felt a rush of pleasure as he gently kissed her collarbone.
Poe was gentle, a series of groans escaping along with every thrust. He loved this woman—God, did he love her. Seeing Jaina break down like that, he knew he had to show her his love in one of the most romantic ways possible, "Moan for me, Jaina." He teases her breasts with soft kisses.
"It feels..so good.." Jaina moans in a broken whisper, feeling immense pleasure consume her like a scorching, swift fire. Her fingers tangle through his curly, black hair. She shut her eyes tightly while arching her back and finding a rhythm to match his and crying the pilot's name, "D-Don't stop."
"J-Jaina," Poe breathes her name, looking up to kiss her deeply, their mouths opening and panting in sync while their tongues twine, "You with me here?" He whispered in between kisses.
"I'm with you...for as long as you have me, I'm with you Poe," She cups his face as their kiss continues and they both moan together. Each thrust, becoming faster and rougher, only caused the molten pleasure to increase. Sharp, desperate cries wrench from her throat that render Jaina unable to make words.
Harsh and rough sounds leave Poe, telling his lover that the pleasure was becoming unbearable for him as well. He could feel himself thicken inside of her while his knees were almost giving out, "I'm about to come at any second now. Kriff..."
"P-Poe! I-I...I love you so much..." Jaina spoke in a soft moan, her face cringing into a a combination of pain and satisfaction, "T-Thank you for...for loving me despite all my...flaws. Ah." She gasped heavily at feeling Poe release inside of her.
Poe waited to fill her before collapsing backward onto the bed, pulling her down with him. He enveloped Jaina into a gentle embrace as he tried to catch his breath. Brown eyes met blue ones. "I'll love you... for as long as I live, Jaina. That is my promise."
Jaina leaned forward, capturing his lips in a deep, breathy kiss. She pulled away slowly, her eyes still locked with his, a tender smile playing on her features. "You're too good to me, fly boy."
They lay there, wrapped in each other's arms, the world outside fading into insignificance. The rhythm of their breathing synchronized, creating a peaceful harmony. Poe gently stroked Jaina's hair, his touch soothing and calming.
"You're my everything," he whispered, his voice barely audible in the quiet room. Jaina nestled closer, resting her head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart.
"I feel the same way," she murmured, her eyes growing heavy with contentment. The warmth of their embrace and the depth of their connection lulled them into a state of serene tranquility.
Slowly, the exhaustion of the day began to take over. Poe's eyes fluttered shut, his arms still securely around Jaina. She let out a soft sigh, her body relaxing completely as she drifted into sleep.
In the safety of each other's arms, they found peace, their love a comforting cocoon that carried them into a restful slumber. The night passed quietly, with dreams filled with the promise of their love.
