Thank you for cheering me on and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for always reviewing. These last seven months I've been keeping keeping an eye out on this profile and your reviews did not go unnoticed. I saw every one and always opened my document right after. Sometimes I got two words out, other times maybe a paragraph, the important thing is you made me want to continue. I can't tell you what happened or why, but one morning I got up and just felt this fire under me and immediately opened my document and wrote out the whole last chapter in an hour and I only have you to thank! I'm so sorry for leaving you as long as I did, but i can promise you, now until the end of the year you will be getting a chapter update ever Sunday morning! Introductions
"They came all the way down here?" Edward asks his body language stiff,
"Yes," Carlisle answers with a nod,
"Why?" Edward questions through grit teeth. Carlisle, ever patient answers,
"It would appear Alice invited them down here." A silence settles in the garage and I find myself looking between both Carlisle and Edward,
"What's wrong?"
"More vampires," Edward mumbles. I turn to Carlisle eyes wide. How did I forget..vampires, bite, Garret. Carlisle holds his hands up approaching me slowly,
"It's okay Mare. If you don't want to meet them I will tell them to come back another time. This is about you, not them." I swallow searching for my voice,
"Okay." I finally get out after a second longer,
"They are like us, none of them have had human blood in decades, centuries even for some of them." I nod, feeling a small weight off my shoulders. Knowing they wouldn't be interested in biting me sends a sense of relief through my body,
"That's good." Carlisle nods
"Esme and I are here, Edward too, the others are not far behind. Marceline, you're completely safe, but it's completely up to you, I don't want you to feel like you have to meet them if you're not ready. Trust me when I say it's not rude and we will all understand if you don't wish to." I hate that Carlisle knows me this well. Of course, I don't want to say no to meeting their cousins. How could I not? Both Carlisle and Edward keep their eyes on me waiting for an answer. Edward looks like he wants me to say no to meeting them and Carlisle looks like he doesn't care what answer I give...damn his support. I take a breath and nod.
"If you and Edward are right there..I think it will be fine."
"Mare." Edward calls my attention, "Don't say that just because you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings."
"Yes," Carlisle agrees, "This is very much about you." I open my mouth when Rosalie's Range Rover pulls in. Emmett hops out first,
"Why did you drive home with Eddie?"
"What did Tonya do to you?" Rose hops out next, slamming the door a little too hard. She stomps over to me but stops midway and looks to the garage door before turning to Carlisle,
"The Denali are here?" She frowns turning to Edward. They share a look,
"Why are the Denali here?" Emmett questions,
"Alice" Edward explains, Rose sighs,
"Of course she did."
"Rose," Carlisle warns,
"Could they have come at a more convenient time?"
"It is a holiday." Emmett shrugs only to have Rosalie lightly push him aside,
"Not now." She grabs my shoulder and turns me to face her,
"What happened at lunch?" I look anywhere but at Rose, "You know we keep to ourselves, but even that floated its way to us." I shrug,
"What happened?" Carlisle steps between us,
"Mare's being bullied." Carlisle turns towards me his face stern yet soft,
"Is this true?"
"No."
"She knocked your lunch out of your hands and ruined a 115-dollar top." My mouth falls open,
"115 dollars?"
"Not the point Mare." Rose snaps,
"She knocked your lunch out of your hands?" Carlisle's voice is a tone I haven't heard from him yet...angry.
"I still ate," I say slowly hoping that will placate him...it doesn't.
"We need to talk about this." He says, his voice has a dangerous edge to it. This is the first time I've heard him sound like this and it scares me.
"But..." I start trying to get out of this conversation...I think I have an idea. "We have guests." I smile. No one smiles at me. Suddenly a car door slams,
"Then we shouldn't keep them waiting." Edward comes to stand next to me, saving me just in the nick of time.
"This conversation isn't over." Rose steps forward, blocking off Edward from reaching me,
"You're right." He states simply "But now is not the time." He turns to Carlisle, the two seem to be having a silent conversation with just their eyes. What I wouldn't give to know what Edward is saying to him. After a second longer, Carlisle turns back to look down on me,
"Are you sure you'd like to meet them?" He questions completely dropping the previous conversation, Thank you, Edward.
"Umm ya.. they're your family." I turn back to Rose, "I want to meet them."
"Alright." Carlisle breathes, holding his arm out. I step into his side and let him pull me close, I feel him bend down and kiss the top of my head and I know he feels my body go stiff in his arms, and for a second I can't relax. First the hug from Esme this morning along with her telling me she loved me. I returned both of her affections and I did so with ease. Now Carlisle pulling me close and kissing my head... My mother would hug me, she would also tell me she loves me...sometimes I would get a forehead kiss, the night appeared here she did all three, but this...what is wrong with me? Carlisle keeps his grip tight and this time I force my body to relax, when it does he pulls me forward and into the house. Warmth hits my cheeks and with careful steps, Carlisle takes us up the stairs one by one.
"I'm going to kill Alice when I see her," Rosalie whispers behind us,
"Can it wait till later...the games on tonight and-"
"Shhhhhh." Rosalie hisses, Emmett scofts.
"It's a big game babe."
"Emmett" She scoffs,
"Eddie, Jasper, and I have bets on the game." Carlisle chuckles beside me,
"If you ask Eleazar he'll put a bet in with you."
"Yess." Emmett celebrates,
"Who's playing?" I ask
"Mare, no" Rose pushes placing her hand on the small of my back keeping pace right behind us. We reach the top of the stairs and turn into the living room. Esme turns to greet us first, her hair in loose waves and simple gold studs in her ears. She's wearing a simple black dress and nude heels, and next to her stand three blondes...or maybe their Greek goddesses, because that's what they look like. Theirs two more heads in the room, a male and a female with hair as dark as night,
"Mare," Esme smiles gently catching the other's attention. They turn all golden eyes on me. I shiver and Carlisle squeezes my arm, a gentle reminder that he's here, and as long as he's here I'm safe.
"This is her?" A beautiful woman with strawberry blonde hair asks, her golden eyes look me up and down, the curls in her hair bob with her movements and I find that I can't stop staring at her. She's beautiful in an old-world ethereal way. She finishes looking at me and then turns to a woman on her right. She's equally as beautiful as the woman in the middle except an inch taller with straight blonde hair the color of sunshine that reaches below her bust line. Her face is a bit more harsher too. Tanya has soft facial features hers are sharp. Sharp cheekbones and nose, her lips thinned out more as are her eyebrows, and no matter how she looks at me, it appears thats she's looking at fresh meat. If her eyes weren't so bright and gold, I'd believe she was.
"Mare these are our cousins from Alaska," She holds her hand out pointing to the girl in the middle, "This is Tanya"
"Hello." She smirks, I give an awkward wave,
"Kate," Esme introduces the girl to the right, she also smirks,
"Hi." I smile at her although I know it's just as awkward as my wave,
"Irina" Esme points to a girl standing a bit awkwardly compared to the other two, she's on the left. She's the shortest out of the three blondes, and has the shortest hair, a straight edge chin length bob with hair so light it looks almost a white silver. She doesn't say anything or even look my way, and I'm content to let her be until Tanya opens her mouth,
"Say hello Irina." Irina looks away,
"Hello."
"And this is Carmen and Eleazar" Esme finishes with two people off to the side. Unlike the three girls in front of me, these two appear a bit more mature. Older with olive skin and dark hair. The woman the same height as Tanya, with a square face. Her face is kind and her eyes are gentle and I can't help but think that she reminds me of Esme,
"It's nice to meet you, Mare." She smiles threading her arm threw the man standing next to her. He looks down at me with soft eyes and I can't help but feel like he's studying me.
"Hello, Mare."
"Hi."
"Rose." Kate's eyes slip behind me, and I feel Rosalie's hand rest lightly on my shoulder.
"Kate, it's good to see you."
"You like the human?" Kate observes, behind me I feel Rose shrug,
"Problem?" Kate's smirks before turning away,
"Not at all, just very unRose of you." Rosalie's hand tightens a bit before relaxing again.
"I think you just don't know me that well."
"Yes." Kate smiles turning back to look at Rose, "I forgot how much you like humans,"
"Kate," Tanya warns and I get the feeling that Tanya is in charge here.
"It's interesting." Eleazar steps forward, "Alice was correct, the child doesn't smell." The room is silent and the mood changes,
"Thanks...I uh...I showered." Emmett snorts behind me, and I hear Rose slap him, but it doesn't stop him, suddenly Tanya joins him, and it seems both Esme and Carlisle breathe a sigh of relief,
"Relax everyone," She steps forward, "We're here in friendship, you've done nothing wrong and we have no reason to be as still as we are." She turns to address Carlisle, "Please continue life as you normally do, we're not here to disrupt you, and we'll be gone before the holiday."
"You're very welcome here as you always are, and we would be more than happy to have you for the holiday." Tanya turns behind her to look at the others,
"Than we except." She smiles at Carlisle before looking at me, "I would love to get to know you more Mare." I nod, but before I can open my mouth Esme steps in,
"Of course, but as the routine goes in our house, Mare does her homework after school." I furrow my brows at her,
"You don't usually make me do it on weekends." It's Tuesday but there's no school till next Monday. Esme pulls me out of Carlisle's grasp,
"Yes, but you've been ill so I want you in bed and I'll bring you a snack."
"but-"
"Edward will take you upstairs." I frown when Edward comes up next to me,
"Hi, Edward." Tanya smiles wide,
"Tanya." He nods in her direction grabbing my wrist and pulling me towards and up the stairs. When were at the top I pull out of his grasp
"What was up with that?"
"Esme wants to sets some ground rules with them." He explains walking over to my room and opening the door. I can tell by the warmth leeching out that Esme lit the fireplace,
"but why?" Edward shrugs and reluctantly I head to my room, but not before turning and looking up at Edward, "I think Tanya likes you." Edward pushes me threw the doorway and shuts the door, but not before groaning out,
"Shut up Mare."
