Chapter 52 Chapter 52
The three hurried towards the castle, but before they could enter the common room, they saw Snape emerge from the shadows.
"What a pleasant surprise!" Snape said disdainfully as he looked at them, "Potter, Granger, Mason, I thought using Polyjuice Potion to disguise yourselves as Slytherin students was quite bad, but I didn't expect wandering at night to become a habit."
"Professor, this is an emergency, we need to go back to the common room," Hermione said hurriedly.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk!" Snape had a smug smile on his face, "I'm afraid you are not going to the common room, Gryffindor loses 150 points, let me think..."
"You don't understand, professor! It was Voldemort, he opened the Chamber of Secrets, we need to stop him, there's a diary..." said Hermione.
"Silence, Miss Know-It-All!" Snape glanced at them for a moment and then said slowly, "This is Hogwarts, that person cannot be here, come with me, I want to see what Dumbledore will do with you."
Harry looked down, unsure of what to do, knowing Snape would not believe him no matter what he said; the other side just wanted to find excuses to punish him.
Harry was already filled with anxiety, but when he heard a voice, he decided to say something.
"It's time to kill... let me tear..."
"I hear the voice again, it's the basilisk, it's heading towards the common room!" Harry's heart sank; he knew that if the basilisk was allowed into the common room, the consequences would be disastrous.
Consider, a group of unprotected students facing a creature that can kill people with a single glance, how many will die.
"Evan, Hermione, it's here!" Harry didn't wait for Snape before yelling the password and running towards the common room entrance.
Evan and Hermione stood frozen for a moment before hurriedly following.
The common room was just the same as before, the only difference was that the fire had gone out.
Through the dim light, Evan could see that the lectern where he had left the diary was empty; it must have been taken by the student Tom Riddle was controlling.
But who was it, Ginny or...
Then he noticed the writing on the wall above the fireplace:
Hogwarts will be purged, and the heir of Slytherin will fulfill his greatest mission!
Evan's pupils contracted, Hogwarts will be purified, and the heir of Slytherin will fulfill his greatest mission, what does Tom Riddle want to do?
Then, a figure emerged from the shadows, it was Ron.
Ron looked strange, elegant, and calm with a hint of oppression, completely different from his usual self.
"Ron, thank goodness you're here, the basilisk is coming, we need..." Harry exclaimed anxiously.
"I know it's here, I'm the one who called it," Ron said with a strange smile.
"You did, what do you mean?" Harry and Hermione looked at him with surprised expressions.
"I mean everything was done by me," Ron said with a more visible smile, "Harry Potter, I have long wanted to see you, among all the students at Hogwarts, you are the one I most desired to see."
"Ron, what are you talking about?" Harry asked as he took a step forward.
"Don't come any closer, Harry, he's not Ron, he's Tom!" Evan exclaimed.
"Evan Mason!" The smile on Ron's lips turned colder, "Filthy, loathsome half-blood, I expected you to be a problem, but I didn't think you would disturb the great heir of Sl...
"Enough, what the devil are you four up to?" Snape interrupted Ron. He had heard their conversation from outside and frowned, thinking these four were insane.
Weasley as the heir of Slytherin was the biggest joke to him; those four must be pulling his leg.
Snape drew his wand, ready to use the 'Stupefy' spell to render them unconscious.
But before he could cast it, he heard a loud noise from inside the common room, loud enough to wake the entire castle.
"Do the fools of Gryffindor not know what time it is, or do they wish to be expelled from Hogwarts?" Snape shouted.
He stopped upon hearing a loud noise coming from the bathroom not far away. It seemed as if something gigantic had fallen from the sky and landed on the stone floor; the entire Gryffindor tower shook, clearly not something a student could do.
Snape turned around and looked towards the bathroom, pointing his wand at it.
Ron had a peculiar smile, while the others stared at the bathroom door in horror.
Strange sounds emanated from it; what could be emerging from there? The atmosphere was tense.
Evan, Harry, and Hermione swiftly drew their wands; Snape moved forward with the tip of his wand emitting a faint fluorescent glow.
With a thud, the bathroom door fell, and dust scattered everywhere.
In the midst of the dust, Evan saw a horrifying giant snake slither out; it was green, as large as an oak tree trunk, and its upper body reared up high.
"It's a basilisk, do not look into its eyes!" Evan shouted, pointing his wand at the basilisk.
Snape was quicker than him; as soon as the basilisk shot out of the bathroom, the soft glow of his wand intensified, producing three dark silver rays that shot like arrows, accurately hitting the basilisk and leaving three bleeding scars on its green scaly skin.
The basilisk shook its head; pain seemed to enrage it. It hissed madly, its two yellow eyes searching for anyone willing to attack.
Then it saw a ball of orange light flying towards it.
Evan's Conjunctivitis Curse struck the basilisk, forcing it to shut its eyes in agony.
