For the rest of the seven nights Tony brought a movie that had a Jewish actor or actress for them to watch, explaining that due to prejudice aka small minded people that many classic and legendary stars had to hide their ethnicity to make it in Hollywood.
With New Year's Eve and Hanukah the same night they celebrated both at Ziva's, they weren't into partying so they were just going to watch movies and then the count down.
All of their gifts given , dinner eaten they all received their thanks and hugs before settling for the the movie, it was one Tony called a classic noir 'Key Largo'. Being older Ducky and Gibbs with their girlfriends had the couch and love seat, it being her apartment she took the last spot on the couch, the others like they had at Gibbs's took cushions and pillows on the floor. Ziva found it amusing that Tony had left all the movies from the previous nights saying each time he would get them later.
The small group snacked as they watched the movie, Kate falling asleep before the movie's end as she had for the two previous nights Gibbs was grateful for the small blanket on the couch.
"Boss is Kate okay?" McGee whispered not wanting to wake her up.
"She fine," Gibbs promised "just the medication she's on, makes her tired."
"It's not catchy is it? You know she was always coming to work with a cold." Tony asked pointing out the truth while he was at it.
"Ear infection." Gibbs gave their cover story.
"Antibiotics." Tony nodded, it explained the no drinking.
"I like this better than that black tie thing Director tried to make us attend." Abby admitted snacking on her popcorn, Ziva nodded in agreement but not for the same reason, when it came to big gatherings she was always on guard as the past had taught her to be.
While Kate slept the others played games at the kitchen table to take their time up to the countdown which they were going to watch, Gibbs hadn't heard of half of the performers but Ziva hadn't either.
The show had started at eight but they didn't start watching until closer to midnight, choosing to play games instead, Gibbs had woken Kate up around ten so she could join in the games.
"I'm sorry." Kate apologized to Ziva as they were getting snacks.
"Gibbs explained, ear infection." Ziva nodded to the older man.
"Being sick is no fun at the holidays." Abby shook her head.
"Still better than the last few holidays in Indiana." Kate said softly, reaching out Abby squeezed Kate's hand, she was sure aside from Gibbs and of course Rachel and Danny, that she knew the most about Kate's family.
"Family is complicated." Ziva agreed, Kate nodded glancing at her ex teammates, she knew she wasn't the only one with a complicated family.
"It shouldn't be, but it is." Kate murmured.
The group started counting down with the television "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!" the couples and friends exchanged chaste kisses and hugs wishing each other a Happy New Year.
After a little longer the group wished each other a good night before going home, Ziva relaxed they others had helped her with dishes so she didn't have anything to do.
Ziva nodded as McGee greeted her "Good morning Ziva."
"Good morning Mu-Gee." stopping in front of his desk he eyed the cup "That is from Agent Todd." Ziva said trying to stay professional at work.
"Oh, okay, thanks." McGee sat down arranging his desk before turning on his computer, Kate had mentioned coming in early to talk to the little boy again, at present all the boy had been able to do was tell them about the guys that had been harassing his dad, who wasn't military.
The boy felt safe with his grandfather, a retired Navy Seal, his grandfather a gruff man stood back with Gibbs to let Kate and the boy talk and to give Gibbs information he could on himself making sure his own past wasn't coming after his daughter. After getting the older man's information Gibbs watched as Kate drew with the boy letting him tell her stories about who he was drawing hoping that she would get something from it all.
Kate was hoping she could help the team find the truth and solve the case so the family could have closure going into the new year.
