Two weeks had passed since Sam's out of control rager. Things had been going smoothly between Brooke and Sam with little to no conflict arising between the two, and Brooke was thrilled that Sam seemed to be mellowing out a bit. Although Sam continued to make snarky remarks and be a typical broody teen, she had been behaving herself for the most part and abiding by her grounding with no complaints. Brooke no longer felt anger as her primary emotion towards her, in fact, she was proud of the girl for the progress she'd made in such a short amount of time.

It was currently Saturday evening and Brooke was sitting on the couch working on sketches for her new line. After twenty minutes of aimless drawing, she closed her sketchbook with a better idea of how to spend Saturday evening brewing in her head. Brooke leapt up from the couch and headed to Sam's room. She knocked on the door as she cracked it open and found her foster daughter sprawled out on her bed reading a book.

"Hey," Brooke said as she stepped into the room. "So I was thinking maybe we could go to the store and get a bunch of junk food and have a movie night, what do you think?" Brooke wanted to connect with Sam on a more personal level. She wanted them to be more than strangers living under the same roof, she wanted them to be friends.

Sam looked up at her with confusion. "Really?" She asked. Brooke hadn't allowed her to watch TV or use electronics of any kind over the past two weeks, so she was caught off guard by the question.

Brooke smiled, "Yeah come on it'll be fun. Put the book down and let's go to Whole Foods to hit up the snack aisle."

Sam shrugged and smiled slightly, setting her book down on her nightstand. "Okay let's do it." She had been so bored sitting in her room all day, so she was grateful for Brooke's gesture.

The girls returned home with chips, popcorn, and a ton of candy. They both quickly changed into pajamas before settling onto the couch and beginning their search for a movie. After arguing back and forth for what seemed like forever over what to watch, they finally agreed on It Takes Two after discovering their mutual love for the Olsen Twins.

"So let me get this straight," Sam said as the plot began to unfold. "We're supposed to believe that these girls aren't related, yet they look 100% identical? Why not make them twins separated at birth or something instead?"

"So The Parent Trap?" Brooke smirked. "That plot already exists."

"Didn't this movie come out a couple of years before The Parent Trap?"

"You know the Lindsay Lohan version is a remake, right?" Brooke laughed. "The original Parent Trap came out in the 60's."

"Okay whatever." Sam said, "I've never seen that version."

"Fair enough, the remake is better anyway," Brooke smiled.

As the night progressed, Sam grew more and more tired and she was fighting to keep her eyes open. Without a second thought, she lay her head on Brooke's shoulder out of pure exhaustion. The girl wasn't used to showing affection, so when she realized what she'd done, she panicked. Sam was about to sit back up, but before she could, she felt Brooke's arm wrap around her and pull her in closer. Sam remained stiff, hesitant to accept Brooke's embrace at first, but after a minute she decided that she actually liked the physical closeness to her foster mother, so she let herself relax into her.

Brooke's heart was racing at Sam's willingness to be close to her. Before this, Sam had never shown any desire to be touched or held by her in any way, and of course Brooke never tried to force anything. This small act was huge for Brooke since Sam had been the one to initiate the contact. Despite the incredibly rocky start to their relationship, this moment gave Brooke renewed hope to be a good mother to the teenager.

Brooke could feel Sam's breathing even out indicating that she was asleep as the credits began to roll. She moved the young girl to be laying down on the couch, trying not to wake her. Brooke lay a blanket on top of her and gently rubbed her shoulder for a minute, watching as she peacefully slept before getting up to get herself ready for bed.

A week had passed since their movie night and things remained solid between Brooke and Sam. Sam emerged from her room at 9:00am for breakfast since Brooke allowed her to sleep in two hours later on the weekends. She was greeted by a cheery Brooke making pancakes in the kitchen.

"Good morning! How'd you sleep?" Brooke asked as she set a plate of pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit in front of the teen.

"Fine I guess. You seem rather chipper this morning," Sam said in her monotone voice as she picked up a strawberry.

"I just woke up in a good mood," Brooke shrugged. "I'm surprised you don't seem more chipper yourself considering your three weeks are up today."

Sam perked up a bit. She hadn't forgotten; she'd been counting down the days dying to get her freedom back for weeks now. She just hadn't wanted to bring it up to Brooke for her own sense of pride, so she was happy that her foster mother had mentioned it right away.

"Oh yeah," she said nonchalantly. "So can I have my phone back?"

"Are you going to throw any more parties without my permission?" Brooke asked, raising an eyebrow.

Sam rolled her eyes. "No Brooke," she said, the annoyance evident in her voice.

Brooke smiled and rolled her eyes. "Yes you may have your phone back," she said, reaching into her pocket to retrieve the teenager's prized possession.

Sam grinned as she took her device from Brooke's hand. "Okay sweet I'm going out, see ya later!" She said, getting up from her stool at the kitchen island.

"Woah wait you haven't even touched your breakfast! You're so desperate to get out already, huh?" Brooke teased. "Am I really that boring to be around?"

"You haven't let me live my life in three weeks, I've got some serious catching up to do," Sam told the woman before she quickly ran back to her room to retrieve her skateboard.

Brooke laughed. "Okay, have fun. Please don't be out for too long and text me updates so I know you're okay."

"I will," Sam said as she carried her board from her room to the front door. She set it down momentarily so that she could put her shoes on. "Bye!" She said after her shoes were on and she was standing up again, and with that, she was out the door.

Sam hadn't expected to hate being grounded so much, but it turned out to be torture being confined to the house when she was used to being entirely independent and living on her own with no rules only weeks prior before she had moved in with Brooke.

"That girl…" Brooke said, smiling to herself and shaking her head after Sam had slammed the door.
