Aftermath of the Dark War Chapter 3: A Whole New World by Jurassicfatt

Allie's Pov, Unknown

*dream sequence*

The sound of the Ocean in Tahiti.

The Cave, a feeling of uneasiness.

Hero. Have to help her.

Getting dragged by the leg.

"Wench!"

Pain on my left cheek.

Braxton screaming.

Wind through my hair, someone holding me...

Fear.

"Don't worry..." a soothing voice says, "I've got you."

Suddenly, I'm walking in dark eerie passage way. How the heck did I get here? It's pitch black, except for a small light at the front of the passage. I begin walking towards it. As I get closer, I see something sticking out in the middle of the room. A raised platform with... the Jade Jewel? I go up to it and grab the jewel. Looking at it, the jewel begins glowing slightly in my hand. Then, a large hand grabs my arm and spins me around. I'm face to face with the tall man again. I try to break free but his left hand is holding me in a tight grip. "You will pay for your insolence with your life!" he screams before raising his right hand, ready to stab his long fingers into my neck...
_

"No!" I wake up from my nightmare in a shock. A hand on my heart, I take steady breaths, trying to calm myself. I then take a look at my surroundings. Wasn't I in a swampy forest? I'm lying down on a sofa of some sort, with pillows behind my neck and some under my feet. I feel something wet and cold on my left cheek. I raise my hand and grab the item: a cold compress? Where am I? Who put this compress on my face? I continue to scan the room. There are candles all around me. To my left is a golden cauldron with water... why is that there? It's still March, so a bit too early for Halloween decor. To my right is a leather chair and a small table with a teapot, cup and a glass jug with some green liquid in it. The top of the room is filled with what looks like Chinese garden lanterns, tin foil and bird cages colored blue and yellow. Looks like somebody's living room...

My heart begins to race as I remember the tall man dragging me through the muck. Is this his home? It can't be. He said he was going to sell me to some... flesh market? I don't even know what that is, and I don't think I want to find out either. Hopefully I never will, considering I was saved by that woman. The image of her pops into my head almost instantly. Her purple and black outfit. Her short brown hair. Her black/white make-up. Her soothing voice. She's the one who saved me, though it wasn't easy. The tall man got the upper hand at one point. I knew he was going to kill her, so I grabbed whatever I could find. I took a dead branch from the ground, and hit him hard. I wasn't going to let her die. Not like… no. I, I can't. I don't want to think of that again.

My thoughts go back to the woman from the forest. Did she bring me here? Now I'm beginning to wonder why she saved me in the first place. Is she even worse than him? She killed those bird things like they were nothing, am I next? My thoughts were interrupted as I hear voices arguing in the other room.

"Do you have any idea how much danger you were in?" a man says. He has a slight, almost Greek-like accent.

"Relax, Caretaker, I have his rib, see? He's lost a lot of blood. He couldn't have lasted that long." a woman responds. It sounds like the woman from the forest.

"If he's a sorcerer as powerful as you said, he will have healed himself! Why didn't you wear the armor?"

"I told you already, Caretaker, it's too heavy. It wears down the tires on my bike and I can't move as quickly when I fight!"

"If you had it on, that sorcerer wouldn't have been able to paralyze you! It was specifically made for spells and magic! Fighting smart is more important than being fast!"
"I had it under control!"

"No, you didn't! If it hadn't been for that girl, you wouldn't be alive right now!" There was a small pause.

"*Sigh*, Look Rosemary, I know you like doing things your own way, but it is time for you to face the facts. You were outmatched. Period. Next time, you may not be so lucky. You need to be ready. You and I both know you are a great assassin, and a good person. But you can't run head first into things. Just because you were trained for this doesn't mean you're invincible. Many assassins have fallen to Warlord demons before. I don't want you to become another statistic."

"I know, I know Caretaker. I should have been more careful. I just... *sigh* I just wanted to do the right thing."

"I know you did. Just promise me you'll wear the armor next time?"

"I've told you it's too heavy! Isn't there something lighter like an amulet I can wear?"

"Oh my... wait, that actually might work? How did I not think of this before?! I... Oh! It seems our guest may have awoken."

I hear footsteps as two people come into the room. One is a short, tan skinned man. He has long brown hair in a ponytail and three eyes? Two brown and one red, with a yellow pupil, in the middle of his forehead. He has a jutting chin and a short brownish-gray beard. He's wearing two brown leather straps in the shape of an x on his chest, which connects to his maroon-colored pants. Next to him is the woman from before. Now I can see her more clearly. She's removed her purple jacket, leaving her in just a plain black tank top and black jeans. She's still wearing boots, only these ones look less worn out than the one's she had on earlier. Her dark brown hair tumbles messily down her shoulders, giving a wild look to her. She has beautiful, misty blue eyes. Her cheeks and mouth still have that unique make-up/face paint; black covers her nose, lips and neck. On each of her cheeks is a large black circle, which connects in a line to the black paint on her mouth. The rest of her mouth, chin, and cheeks are white. She is also slightly toned, especially on her arms. I feel myself heat up as my eyes move from her face to her D-cup chest- Wait what? Why did I linger on her chest? How hard was I smacked? The two of them stop in front of me, before the man crouches down to my level.

"How are you doing, my lady?" the man asks in a formal tone, his sharp teeth showing. My eyes lock firmly on them. He notices my stare. "Oh my, I do apologize. I can only imagine the sight of my sharp teeth must make me seem dangerous. Rest assured, I mean you no harm." Even though I had just met this sharp toothed, three-eyed man and should be more skeptical, something in his eyes told me he was telling the truth.

"Um, okay. Where am I?" I ask hesitantly.

"In my home. I apologize if this couch is not very comfortable, but my bedroom is quite cluttered at the moment. I am L'von T'soti, but you may call me Caretaker." the man says to me.

"Allie. Allie Dennis." I say, putting my right hand out to the newly named Caretaker. He takes my hand before shaking it slightly.

"I do believe you've already met Rosemary." he states.

"Hi. Thanks for the rescue, earlier. You are one tough Realmer." Rosemary says to me. I notice her averting her eyes. Do I look that bad? Wait, why do I care? I was just kidnapped.

"Well, you did save me first." I say sheepishly. Why am I acting like this? Do I have a concussion?

"Tried to is the more accurate term." Caretaker remarks. Rosemary turns to him.

"Hey! I still saved her!" Rosemary rebuttals.

"Not to break up the two of you, but... why do you have three eyes and sharp teeth? And what is a Realmer?" I ask in complete confusion.

He looks at me inquisitively. "Why, because I am a demon. Tartirician, actually. Have you never met one?" he asks.

"Demon? No. Aren't demons supposed to be evil?" I ask apprehensively, scooting farther from him.

"No, we Tartiricians are very docile. Wait, you don't know what a Realmer is? Where did the sorcerer take you from?" He asks me.

"Tahiti. An island in the Pacific Ocean. We were in an underwater cave, me and... Braxton." I answer, before remembering how the sorcerer had killed him, his blood leaking into the water.

"You said that name earlier when I was trying to bring you here." Rosemary states. "Is he-"

"Dead." I say quickly, my eyes starting to tear up. "I feel so guilty! He was my boyfriend, after all. I should have done more to save him." I say, beginning to sob.

"My dear, don't cry. If this sorcerer is as bad as Rosemary told me, you were lucky to leave with your life." Caretaker says in an effort to console me. "What exactly were you doing in this cave?"

"*Sniff* Braxton and I were on a-a trip. W-we went scuba diving and we surfaced in an underwater cave. Braxton was trying to look for something called 'the Jade Jewel'. We were warned not to look for it by our guide, but he didn't listen. He wanted to impress his boss with it and get a promotion. I swam away, not wanting to be any part of his little scheme, when I saw something poking out from a rock. I went to grab it and discovered it was the jewel. Braxton took it from me, and then he... the sorcerer arrived. He wanted the jewel. Braxton pushed me towards him to try and run away, but the sorcerer took the jewel and... murdered him. He then grabbed me by the foot, told me he was going to sell me at some 'flesh market' and then pulled me into a red portal." I explained, burying my face into my hands.

"Hm. So, you are from Earth? That explains why you don't know about the term Realmer or about demons. I do not know of this Jade Jewel. Do you, Rosemary?" Caretaker asks. She shakes her head. I remove my hands from face and look towards the three-eyed man.

"Wait, y-you said 'I'm from Earth'? Aren't we on Earth now?" I ask, confused.

"Technically, no my dear. We are in the Undead Realm." Caretaker says.

"What? What do you mean 'Undead Realm'? Am I dead? Did that sorcerer kill me?" I ask, clutching my heart.

"No, my dear. Let me explain." Caretaker then grabs a paper and old feather pen with an ink pot and begins drawing. He shows me two pictures: one of the solar system and one of two Earths side by side. "You see, we are now in a different dimension. In the dimension you come from, you live on Earth, with your moon and all the planets in your solar system, yes?" I nod. He then draws a portal between the two Earths and points to it with the pen. "Well, when you entered that portal with the sorcerer, you came into this dimension, the Undead Realm. This is a different version of your Earth. It still has the same shape, mass, and gravity, as well as other characteristics, hence why you don't get crushed or float into space. We even have a moon similar to yours, although it looks a bit different, as do the continents and landmasses here." Caretaker explains to me.

"Okay, so how do I get home?" I ask.

"You don't." Rosemary says simply.

"What? Why not?" I immediately question.

"My dear, I am sorry to say, but Rosemary is right. Only sorcerers and few Warlord Demons have the power to survive trips between the dimensions, or Realms, as we call them. Realmers and normal demons only have the ability to survive a one-way trip." he explains.

"What? But I-I have friends, an apartment, a business. You're telling me there's absolutely no way to get back to Earth?" I all but scream to them. As if being kidnapped by that sorcerer wasn't bad enough. I feel like crying again. All my friends back home. All those years of working hard and building a life for myself. All gone in less than an instant.

"I wish there was some way we could, but it just isn't possible." Caretaker states somberly. I begin to sob again. "Oh please, no more crying. Here, let me get you some water." He then scurries off to another room. Meanwhile, Rosemary just looks at me. She reaches into her jean pocket, pulls out a handkerchief and hands it to me.

"*Sniff* Thank you." I say to her, the tears still falling. I go to grab the handkerchief and our fingers touch. They're actually really soft. After realizing I've been caressing them for longer than I should have, I pull my hand away and look up to see her staring at me. I blush and look away. What is wrong with me? Caretaker comes back with a jug of water and pours me a glass before giving it to me.

"Thank you, Caretaker." I say to him. He simply bows.

"No problem, my lady. If you require anything else, do not hesitate to ask." he tells me.

"Thank you. So, this is your home?"

"Yes, it is. Rosemary carried you in and placed you here. I cleaned up your wound and put a compress to bring down the swelling. I wasn't sure if you had any other pain, so I placed pillows behind your back and feet." He explains.

"I really appreciate that." I tell Caretaker, before turning to Rosemary. "You must be really strong. Did you carry me all the way here?"

"Well, just a little bit. I picked you up and put you on my motorcycle. You were fazing in and out of consciousness, and kind of latched onto me. I drove really slowly, so we wouldn't crash. Then I brought you here so you could be healed. It was nothing." Rosemary explains.

"Well, thank you. I'd give you something to repay you, but I left all my money back at my hotel." Speaking of, I might need to find a hotel to sleep in, all things considered. Do they even take money here?

"Well, I'm pretty sure your 'Earth money' wouldn't be useful here anyways. Plus, I don't take money from victims. We could contact the Assassin's guild. Find out a plan for you to get settled here." Rosemary mentions.

"I know this is a difficult time, and it may be strange for me to do so, but you are welcome to stay here for as long as you so wish. Even if you are dangerous as Rosemary has mentioned." Caretaker jokes.

"Oh no, I'm not dangerous. But I hardly know you and I don't want to be a burden."

"Nonsense. It is my pleasure to assist you." Caretaker says before bowing again. What a nice guy, or demon. My mind drifts back to my kidnapper.

"But, what if that sorcerer comes looking for me again? What if he tries to hurt me?"

"He wouldn't dare." Rosemary cuts in, causing me to look at her. "He won't lay a finger on you so long as I'm still breathing." She looks deep into my eyes, to convey her message clearly. I try to look away, but I can't seem to pry my eyes from hers.

"Ahem, well, considering how late it is, perhaps it would be best if we all get some sleep. If you require anything, please do not be fearful to ask me. If not, I bid you good night my dear." Caretaker responds before bowing a third time.

"Good night, and thank you so much. I don't know what I did to deserve such courteousy, but I really appreciate it." I tell him.

"Well, you saved my friend. It is the least I can do." he says, before walking towards a door at the back of the room. I fluff the pillows behind me, trying to get comfortable, but the thought of Braxton's body and the guilt of his death still lingers in my mind.

"Hey," Rosemary says suddenly, breaking me from my thoughts, "I'm right upstairs if you need me." she mentions with a smile.

"T-thanks. Good night." I respond. She then walks into another room and I hear her go up a few stairs. What a time to get tongue-tied. Great job Allie. Wait, why is this bothering me so much? My heart feels like it's going to pound right out of my chest. Why was she so quick to say she'd protect me from the sorcerer? She's just trying to make me feel comfortable, a little voice in my head says. Is that all it is? *Sigh*, Right now, I'm too tired to start debating about it. Its been quite an eventful day and I just want to sleep. Lying back on the couch, I shut my eyes and slowly begin to drift off.
