Aftermath of the Dark War Chapter 12: The Banquet, Part III: Dancing to the End by Jurassicfatt
Rosemary's Pov, Pevonia, Royal Palace Banquet
"Yeah. I think those defenses will work. Just block off the Southern wall." I tell Kustin and his commanding officers. They thank me and I politely leave, walking back to our table. That could have waited until after the party, but Kustin is a good man and values my opinion. I also really needed an excuse to get away from the table. My eyes haven't been able to stop staring at Allie since she put on that dress and makeup. When she linked her arm with mine, I felt my skin heat up again. This doesn't make any sense. She's just a friend. A friend I'm protecting from that bastard, Certrius.
Focus on keeping her safe. I hear the scornful voice say. Focus on the task at hand. Focus on the task at hand.
Yeah, focus on getting your hands all over that soft skin. You know you want to… Uh! Wine. I need some more of that wine. I know its strong, but anything to get my mind off this ridiculousness. Where is it? I've got to get more wine. I've got to… stop dead in my tracks.
Less than three meters away, I see Allie standing in the section marked 'Dance hall'. The band is playing music and couples have started slow dancing all around her. She's standing right under a window and a patch of moonlight is shining right down on her, giving her this ethereal glow and bringing out the rosiness of her cheeks. She's looking around for someone…
SHE'S LOOKING FOR YOU, YOU FOOL! I hear that teasing voice scream at me. GO GET HER!
I feel myself walk towards her in stride. The minute she sees me, her eyes light up.
"Hey." I say to her. "Where's Mickie and Queen Madison?"
"Queen Madison's dealing with the Nesfarian who insulted them. Mickie went to go look for her." She then looks to the ground, slightly biting her blue painted lips, making them look that much more appeal- Focus on the task at hand. Focus on the task at hand. I realize Allie just asked me something in a whisper tone. "Huh? Could you repeat that Allie?" I ask.
"Well, everyone's dancing to this music. The beat is kind of nice. Mickie says it's a Pevonian customary dance and… and I was wondering if you could show me how to do it?" she asks sheepishly, her eyes looking up at me before darting away again.
"Y-Yeah sure. Here, give me your hand." I tell her, my pulse starting to race. She grabs my right hand with her left. "Now r-rest your arm on my shoulder while I p-put mine on your back." What is with me stuttering? She asked you to dance, so focus on that task.
"Oh, okay. Like this?" she asks, placing her hand right where my uniform ends, causing the skin there to heat up and subsequently breaking my train of thought. I nod, before slowly showing her the movements. I take two steps forward, one step back and twirl her around, then turn and repeat. At first, she was sort of out of her element, but eventually she got used to the moves and we began matching each other perfectly. I tried not to stare at her, but I just couldn't help it. Her hair and makeup frame her face so beautifully and she still smells of that heavenly scent of strawberry.
"You look beautiful tonight." I tell her without thinking. Damn it! Why did I-
"Oh! T-Thank you. You look very pretty tonight, too." Allie says, blushing and averting eye contact. She… She thinks I look pretty? Her voice suddenly brings me back to the present.
"Hey Rosemary?" she says.
"Yes?" I respond, trying not to stutter.
"Why do Nesfarians have names based on household items?" I laugh.
"They are too stupid to come up with anyone else. Their leader is actually named Grand counsellor Pottery." I say. She laughs, that cute giggle bringing a huge grin to my face.
"Haha! That's ridiculous." The music slows even more, and the two of us come in closer, as the other couples do. My heart races as she wraps her arms my neck and I place my arms on her waist. I should stop this, but it just feels so right to have her so close. "Mickie told me the story of how she and Madison met. I was wondering: why weren't the assassins called when that sorceress Winter attacked?" Wow, Mickie must really like her to have told her that story.
"An assassin by the name of Su Yung believed that the matter was internal and refused to help. After Madison restored order in Pevonia, the other Assassins learned of this, and they wanted to detain her, but she went missing from Arihota academy before they could. She's still at large." I explain to her. That dishonored assassin would have my boot to her neck if I ever found her. Betraying her code without explanation. She's a disgrace to assassins everywhere.
"She didn't mention that part." she says. She then asks, "Are most sorcerers evil?"
"Yeah. Something about the power going to their heads. Most of them are Warlords too, but there are a few good ones. Caretaker knows a mute one who makes all my magical equipment." I tell her.
"Really? That's pretty cool." she responds, looking down for a second. I know she's still on edge, hearing the way her voice shook after asking me about sorcerers. Without thinking, I place my hand under her chin and softly push her head up so we're at eye level.
"Look at me." I tell her and her gaze catches mine. "I know you are still afraid, and you have every right to be, but we'll be safe here. I promise, no one will lay a finger on you while I'm around." A look of starry-eyed amazement comes over her face. Her eyes are like two mesmerizing blue marbles and I can't seem to look away. I give her a soft smile. Still staring at me, Allie's eyes slowly close and her lips part, as she leans her face closer to mine. I feel myself leaning in, but I stop in my tracks. What am I doing? The song finishes and a chorus of applause comes from the other couples. Allie's eyes snap open, and she and I separate, quickly clapping too, before the chefs announce dessert is ready.
We go back to our table and enjoy some sort of sweet strawberry tart covered in melted caramel. I took a bite of mine, while Allie had most of hers. Her appetite is insatiable, yet she is perfectly cur- Woah! Hey now, stop that. You almost lost control. You cannot keep doing that. Focus on the task at hand. Focus. Queen Madison returns, tells the guests the banquet is at an end and then thanks everyone for coming. Allie and I get up to leave, but Allie runs and speaks with Queen Madison. The two converse for a while, Madison looking quite pleased, even laughing, before they bow to one another and Madison is escorted away by her guards. Allie comes back.
"What was that about?" I ask.
"I just told her that Mickie was upset by what happened with the Nesfarian from earlier. I told her the only thing that's important is how they feel about each other. I also said I fully support them and think they look cute together, which got her to laugh. She said she'd put us on the guest list for the wedding." she replies simply.
"Wow. Just over a week in the Undead Realm and you've befriended the Queen of Pevonia and her future wife. Not bad for your first banquet." I admit. She blushes. We walk back to the room, escorted by a few guards. When we walk in, Allie immediately lets out of sigh.
"That banquet was fun. But I need some sleep after all that." Allie points out.
"Yeah, for a formal banquet, it can be pretty tiring."
Allie then turns to me. "Hey, um. Thanks, for da-, I mean, teaching me the Pevonian dance and dancing with me tonight. It was really nice of you." she says, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. She is so cute.
"It was no problem." I say. "Hey, why don't you take the larger room. The bed is comfy and I've been hogging it over the past few days."
"That's because you were injured. No, I couldn't do that." she argues.
"No, it's fine. I've got to get back into the swing of things anyways. You take the larger room."
"You sure?" she asks. I nod my head. "Okay. I'm going to go get changed and head to bed."
"Hey, if you want, tomorrow we can go to one of the hot springs here? They are pretty popular and quite relaxing." I propose to her.
"I'd like that. Well, thanks again for tonight. Good night, Rosemary."
"Good night, Allie." I respond and she darts into the room.
Why don't you go in there? You know two can fit in that bed. No! Focus on the task at hand. Focus on the task at hand. First thing, getting out of this damn uniform. Then, I'm getting some rest. Hopefully a good night's sleep will calm down my nerves.
Mickie's Pov, Royal Palace, Bedroom
I think that banquet went well, minus Jug the ass. For the past few minutes, I've been moving most of the bedroom furniture. We'll put them back in the morning. Madison will be here any moment and I know she'll need to relieve some of that pent-up anger she has. That's why I've made a large open space on the purple carpeting in front of our bed and I've dressed in my yellow cage fighting outfit. Madison walks into the room and closes the doors, before looking at me with her eyebrow raised.
"What are you doing Mickie? Why is all the furniture outside and why are you dressed in fighting gear?" she asks.
"Well, we had a disrespectful guest question our love, and you got super mad. I thought a sparring match might cheer you up." I say quickly.
"Well, seeing you in that outfit does bring a smile to my face." she tells me with a large grin, before turning serious. "Allie told me you were upset. I made sure Jug will never step foot in the kingdom again and I plan on proposing to the Council to cut all trade with the Nesfarians tomorrow. That shipment of painted bauxite should help with that." she explains.
"That's good. And Allie's a sweetheart. I'll be happy to have her and Rosemary come to our wedding. Now are you going to put on your gear or fight in your leotard?" I scold her.
"I think you'd like that." she teases.
"Okay, fine. I'll beat your ass either way." I sass to her.
"Hey. Don't forget who took your title back in the day, Mick. You and I both know I could beat you in my leotard, no sweat." Madison says, stripping off her tiara, shoes and dress before putting on her boots. God, she has such an amazing body.
"Oh, is that a bet?" I ask.
"Name your stakes." Madison sasses back, putting on her gloves.
"Okay, great. If I win, I want a horse." I tell her. I've always wanted one of those. They used to have wild ones roaming the plains around Grevert province. Unfortunately, most were killed after a Warlord started hunting them at night.
"Mick, you know those things are almost worthless?" she says with a stern look.
"I know."
"Most breeders don't have them since they aren't large or have wings."
"I know."
"It's not about the money. It's the hassle. I'll have to pay for the thing to be transported from the closest city and make sure it is fed, watered and can handle our climate."
"I know." I say, smiling sweetly, putting my hair up in a ponytail. She rolls her eyes.
"*Sigh* Fine, but what do I get out of this?" Madison asks.
"If you win-"
"When I win." Madison says, pointing to her chest and flashing a large cocky grin. She is such a bitch, but I love it.
"If, and only if, you win," I start saying, before going chest-to-chest with her, batting my eyelashes and licking my lips. "I'll do whatever you want me to." I say in the huskiest voice I can. I see her eyes widen at me as I back up slowly, swinging my hips as I do.
"Oh, you are so on!" Madison replies, before putting her hair in a messy bun.
"Best two out of three? First person to make the other tap wins the match?" I ask her.
"Hell yeah. I'm going to look forward to winning." Madison declares.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, Ash, let's see what you got." I say, calling her by her cage fighter name. She grins at me. "One the count of three. Ready? One."
"Two." she continues.
"Three/Three!" We say before running towards each other.
Author's Note: Hey everyone. I hope you enjoyed the final part of the banquet. Allie got them both invited to the wedding, so that's good. Things are certainly heating up between Allie and Rosemary. Rosemary's having a hard time concentrating. Perhaps a day at the hot spring for the two will help relax them after such a party. I wonder who won the match between Mickie and Madison? Until next time.
Please do review if you can. It shows me that people enjoy my stories, which is always nice. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
