Aftermath of the Dark War Chapter 19: Dream Confession Consequences by Jurassicfatt
Allie's Pov
*dream sequence*
Pain.
Rosemary being eaten.
Kiss. Lips tingling.
Uneasy feeling.
Long haunting arms reaching out. Nails on a blackboard voice.
"Where is that Realmer!"
"I'm here to protect you." a soothingly seductive voice says.
Feelings of dread, replaced by warmth and comfort.
"You are unlike any woman I've ever met…"
Warmth filling my chest. Wetness pouring from my core.
The surroundings of the dream become clearer. I'm walking in the snowy forest again and it is extremely cold. Harsh wind freezes the tips of my ears. I wrap my arms around myself to warm up, but the wind howls and causes goosebumps to cover the skin of my arms and legs. I continue trudging through the snow, looking for some sort of shelter to escape from the cold. All of a sudden, I hear a noise. Sounds like someone breaking bark off a tree. I turn to my left, right, and behind, looking for where the sound is coming from. The sound becomes more intense, and when I turn to face forward, the woman from my previous dream, with the white face paint and whip, stands before me. I hear my name whispered in the distance.
"Hm? Allie…"
The woman tilts her head to the side, looking curiously at me. I try to back away and end up tripping on a root from one of the trees.
"Allie." the voice in the distance says again.
In her right hand is a Japanese style katana, with a silver blade and red velvet handle with blue trimmings. "Please, don't do this." I say, my words barely a whisper in the harsh wind. She smiles, pondering for a second, before raising the sword with both hands and slashing down at me.
"Allie? Wake up! Allie!" Rosemary screams and I feel someone shake me.
Allie's Pov, Small Town Tavern, Room, Morning
My eyes spring open and I clutch my chest, my breathing shaky from the vivid nightmare. I feel Rosemary holding me by the arms, her grip relaxing and rubbing them up and down. I look up and see her looking down at me. Her hair is all over the place and she stares at me with those misty blue eyes of hers. I blush when I see one of the straps of her shirt has come off her shoulder, exposing more of her curvy right breast- Stop it, brain. What's the matter with you?
"Hey, what happened Allie? You started thrashing around and screaming in your sleep. Are you alright?" she asks, her tone full of concern.
I breathe deeply, then answer. "Yeah, I think so." I assert.
"What happened, did you have a bad dream?" she asks.
"Yes." I say, before looking down. "Actually, this isn't the first time either." I confess to her. She pauses, letting my arms go and looking into my eyes.
"What do you mean 'it isn't the first time'?" she asks with more authority, her eyes furrowed and focused on me. I then proceed to tell her of the dreams I've been having. I leave out no detail, except the certain 'reactions' my body has when I hear her voice. First, it's not the time and second, I'm not a lesbian! So I just need to move forward and focus on staying alive! When I finish, she looks down for a second, before making eye contact again.
"So, you've been having these nightmares since the day after I saved you, yet you decided to keep them to yourself? Dreams that give you so much pain… Why didn't you tell me?" she asks, her voice trying to remain strong, but I hear a slight crack in it.
"I thought it was me suffering from trauma that Certrius caused when he kidnapped me. The woman has only appeared in the last two. I didn't want to bother you, considering you've already got so much to deal with. I thought they would go away on their own." I argue. Rosemary looks at me in shock.
"Didn't want to bother me? Allie, you should have told me! I'm trying to protect you and Caretaker needs all the information he can possibly get to understand more about the Jewel and how it works! If you keep holding details like this from us, how can we know what we're dealing with and keep you safe?" Rosemary scolds me angrily.
"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't think it was that important to mention." I answer truthfully.
"Obviously you didn't think, blondie." she answers back, before getting out of bed.
Blondie? She had to call me that, didn't she? The only other people to call me that were the bullies I had during elementary. People like Jessie Fielding, who used to hold me down and cut strands of my hair with scissors. I grew to hate the name as a child, and I still share that feeling now. Rosemary checks on our clothes, now dried. She must have taken them out of the cleaner and hung them on the towel rack during the night to dry. I turn my head quickly when she bends over to pull up her pants. Within seconds she's dressed, lacing up her boots.
"Wow, rude much." I tell her.
"No, I'm right. Withholding that information was stupid and you know it. If you can't see that, then that's your problem." she finishes tying her boots, then grabs her weapons and opens the front door.
"Where are you going?" I ask.
"Downstairs. Be ready in twenty. I have another assignment, blondie." Rosemary answers with no emotion.
"Don't call me that." I say through gritted teeth.
"Fine. We don't have to talk at all." she says, before walking out and slamming the door in the process.
She just- I can't believe- How could she call me that-
"Ah!" I yell before picking up a pillow and throwing it at the wall. It bounces off with a slight thud and falls to the ground. In an instant, Kiera pops up from the ground in a fright.
"Wah! What the-" she says, before picking up the pillow. "Allie? When did you get here?" Kiera asks, before groaning and putting a hand to her head. "Okay, Kiera, hold off on the martini ale." Her blue hair is plastered all over her face from sweat and she has massive bags under her eyes.
"Uh, we only paid for one room, remember? And why were you on the floor?" I ask seriously. She opens her mouth to answer, before looking confused and putting a finger to her chin, tapping it lightly.
"Not sure, actual- Oh, my head!" she says, clutching it and groaning again. "Damn hangovers! Where's the chick with the face paint and weird glowing eyes?" she asks.
"Rosemary, she's… downstairs." I answer, still reeling from the fight we just had.
"Why the long face? Did you two fight or something?" How did she not hear us? We were almost yelling. Kiera plops next to me on the bed and puts an arm on my shoulders. "Ah, don't let it get to you. You need to look at the bright side of things. Like food. Scrumptious, delicious, savory, mouthwatering foods like cake or C bread." she says with enthusiasm, her breath reeking of booze. "Let's go get something at the tavern. I'm sure they have something for both of us." she puts forth. She then stops and puts a hand to her stomach before covering her mouth and running to the bathroom. In an instant, vomiting can be heard. I go in and hold her hair back, the smell causing my stomach to turn. Poor Kiera. After a few minutes of this, she finally stops, taking a moment to compose herself. She brushes her teeth with a bone toothbrush as I get dressed. We then head downstairs to grab a quick bite.
Allie's Pov, Tavern entrance, 5 minutes later
Kiera and I sit at the table with the burlap bag near me, eating breakfast. Rosemary is outside, polishing her bike. She barely even nodded when we came down, then pointed to the clock and walked out the front doors. She's so infuriating. *Deep Sigh*. Not going to focus on that right now. Kiera has gotten that 'C Bread' she mentioned, which isn't actually bread at all, but a large bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and apple with a side of four c-shaped "demon wings". They look like deep fried bat wings covered in syrup. She proceeds to scoop up oatmeal with them. I've opted for water, feeling my stomach turning to the sight of her digging in. After finishing breakfast and leaving some coins on the table, we both go outside. Rosemary stops polishing, puts the handkerchief in a small compartment before coming up to me, grabbing my bag and attaching it to the side of her bike. Kiera whistles as her "war mole" surfaces from the ground. The war mole is pretty big, about the size of a small car. It has a round head with two purple eyes, brown shaggy fur covering its entire body and six long white claws extending from all four of its legs. They must be a foot long and are razor sharp. Instead of a jaw full of teeth or a nose, the creature has two pink sucker-like mouths, which leak clear saliva. Kiera gets on the large animal's back and looks down at us.
"You're heading West, right? I'm going South, so, I guess this is goodbye?" Kiera says, then waves. "Goodbye." she states simply, before turning the war mole in the opposite direction.
"Hey wait," I speak up, "Wouldn't you like to come with us?" She turns back.
"Yeah no. Trust me, you guys are cool, but I don't do friends. Friends and family only break hearts and steal from you. Probably going to head to the next big city, see if I can get a saddle for Opal here." she emphasizes. 'Opal' grunts and shakes his body. "I'm sorry, but you're too rough on the ass!"
"You understand him?" I ask.
"Yeah. I'm pretty good with animals. People, not so much." Kiera admonishes.
"Hey," Rosemary says while sitting on her bike. "Thanks again for what you did." Kiera just waves her off.
"We've done that already. Good luck on your next assignment. Alright, let's go Opal! Can already feel the chaffing coming in." Kiera tells us, before riding off to the South. Opal pounces forward like a cheetah, his front legs going down to the ground and his back ones lifting in front of them before jumping forward, making loud booming sounds as he hits the dirt. Man, he moves pretty fast for something that size!
I get on the bike and we reach for our helmets. We put them both on in silence, before Rosemary starts the engine and we head West to deal with the next Warlord. Something tells me this is going to be a long day.
A/N: Hey everybody. A new chapter, little bit shorter this time around. And a shocking one at that. Big fight between our heroines, and now Allie and Rosemary need to go West for the final assignment… Talk about an awkward motorcycle ride to the next town. If you enjoyed this, feel free to review! It's always appreciated. Until next time, have a great weekend!
