Allie's Pov
*dream sequence*
Cries. Sadness. Rosemary begins speaking.
"Allie lied to us."
"I don't even know if Rosemary is your real name!", I hear myself say.
Trust shattered. Regret.
Heartbreak.
Blondie. Stupid. Three dark silhouettes appear, repeating the words over and over again.
"Hey look, little Allie's got her hair in a ponytail? Lord knows she looks like a horse." a young woman's voice says before laughing, two other voices snickering alongside her. I recognize the voice: my childhood bully, Jessie Fielding. "Let's see if we can give her a 'makeover'."
I witness a younger me get pushed onto the ground by the silhouettes. I feel one of them yank her hair, sharing her pain. Seconds later, Jessie starts to roughly cut strands off with a pair of scissors.
"Please, stop. Please!" I hear a younger me mutter weakly.
"Shut up!" spits the silhouette of Jessie, proceeding to cut more of my hair. The younger me begins to cry and try to get away. "Aw, Blondie's crying. Weak little Allie can't defend herself." the voice teases, followed by more laughing and hair cutting. I then hear Certrius' voice.
"Such joy to see you suffer, my dear. But I crave more."
The silhouettes disappear and my surroundings change. I'm sitting in a plush white loveseat. I bring a hand to my head, feeling my hair is all there. Looking around, I recognize where I am. My apartment, just as I left it the day I went to Tahiti. The brown hardwood floors, mopped and sparkling. An old 28" television, sitting on a brown table a few feet away, at the far side of the room. A black coffee table, with a white vase smack dab in the middle of it. I hold a green and white mug filled with my favorite coffee in my right hand. How did I get here?
I hear someone knock on the door, before it is forced open. As I look into the doorway, my heart starts racing. In walks… Braxton?! He is wearing the same swim trunks from the cave, his eyes white, mouth open, and blood leaking onto the floor from his back. He looks at me, his hand outstretched.
"Doll, why'd you leave me? Why'd you let me die, doll? I thought you cared about me." he says, still inching closer. I stand up and back away.
"Braxton? I-I did care. I didn't let you die. Certrius was the one who killed you. It happened so fast, I-" I start, but his eyes roll back before I have a chance to finish. He collapses onto the ground, his body slowly melting into a puddle of blood, the putrid smell overtaking the room. Small ripples then form in the puddle, intensifying by the second. All of a sudden, a figure begins to rise out of it. I can feel my blood run cold as I see who it is. The sorcerer, Certrius, his tall stature, long arms, and blood-stained fingers coming into view.
"My dear, we meet again." he states, in that shrill tone, with a grin.
"Stay back!" I yell. He laughs, before disappearing in a flash. He reappears right behind me, grabbing me by the back of my neck and lifting me off of the ground.
"Now, it is just the two of us. There's no one here to help you. Not the assassin or any other. You are all alone." he says mischievously. I try to break free, but his long-fingers are wrapped all the way around my neck in a tight grip. I'm kicking my feet in the air, given I'm now a few feet above the ground. It's becoming difficult to breathe. Then, I hear a voice in my head, almost a whisper. Sounds like a woman.
"Don't listen to that bastard. Fight him off. Fight back!" the voice yells. Still holding my mug, I throw my arm back. The mug breaks on his head, the hot coffee flying into his face. I hear Certrius yell as he lets me go. Bracing myself as I drop to the ground, feet first, I turn around, catching my breath and backing away from the seething Warlord.
"My eyes! You fucking wench!" he yells, before starting to chant a spell.
"Duck!" I hear from behind me. I swiftly do as I'm told. An unknown figure jumps over me, punches Certrius in the face, and stabs him in the chest. He screams in pain. Just then, a portal opens at his feet. The figure pulls the weapon out from the freshly made wound, as Certrius slowly begins sinking into it.
"No! What are doing? NOOOOOO!" he screams, before he and the portal disappear completely.
Pushing the hair out of my face, I take a look at my savior. Left in Certrius' place is the woman, her face turned away from me. Her long brown hair covers her shoulders and parts of her upper back. She wears a black leather jacket, blue leggings, and long black high heels. In her left hand is a large, white wooden stake in the shape of a cross, blood slowly dripping off its edge and onto the floor below. She turns around, her heels clacking against the wooden floor. Her black shirt has a design on it: a cherry, with its stem lit and burning like a stick of dynamite. When I finally see her face, my mouth drops. This woman looks exactly like me, right down to the smallest detail! The only difference is her hair and eye color, the latter a chocolate brown.
"Would you stop staring! It's really irritating." the woman tells me, her voice full of disgust. "How you could ever be me, I will never know. Although, you did pretty good back there, thanks to my help. Great work."
"Uh-um, thanks? Wh-Who are you?" I ask, getting up slowly, never taking my eyes off her. At my meager 5 ft.5 height, I have no choice but to look up at the high heeled woman. How did she run and jump in those?
"For your information, my name is Cherry Bomb, the one and only demon slayer." she explains, holding her arms out wide and lifting her head to the sky, in a 'bask in my glory' kind of way.
"Demon slayer? Like an assassin? I mean, thanks for saving me, Ms. Cherry, but why are you here? Where did you come from? And why do you look so much like me?" I ask, still confused.
"Believe me, I wish we didn't. You and I have… let's just say it's a long story, something I really don't feel like getting into. I'm here to lay some truth on ya, sister. So, do me a favour, and keep your ears open and your mouth shut, K?" Jeez, she's got an attitude. "Asshole back there was trying to force some info out of you, but I stopped him. Actually, 'we' stopped him." she emphasizes, motioning her hand between the two of us. "He wants your soul because he needs it in order to power the Jewel. The Jade Jewel chose you, for whatever reason. You're the rightful owner. You have control over it, not him. He may have it in his grandpa robes, but he can't use its full power without you. Now, I can imagine you're afraid, confused, and lonely. The fear of Certrius hunting you. The 'assassin' making you feel as if you don't have any say in your future. You moving from town to town, city to city, running and hoping he won't find you. Don't you want that to end?" Cherry asks. I think for a moment.
"Well, of course I do. But I don't think this is a good idea. I just met you, and you are already dodging my questions."
"Yet you trust Rosemary, even though you guys just met? You've only known her for over a month! How do you know she won't give you up if things get tough? The assassin can't be trusted. She's just another demon spawn that will fuck you over. She's only doing this because it's her job. She doesn't care. She doesn't know a thing about the Jewel or the kind of raw power behind it. She can throw as many knives and insults she wants at Certrius; it won't stop him. He's going to keep coming. If you want this to truly end, you need to embrace a 'dark side'. Become independent. Embrace the power you can only get from using that Jewel to your heart's content. Make that fucker fear you for a change. To do that, you need a proper teacher. Someone who'll lead you to sweet freedom." Cherry says to me.
"How- Is that even possible?" I ask in bewilderment.
"Hell yeah! How do you think I got here? That Jewel is super powerful. Now, given that you're lost in this Realm and completely clueless on how to use that thing, you need a guide. You don't need to go through this alone. I can help. I know a guy, really good at this freaky, magicky kind of stuff. Tell me where you are and I promise he'll show you how to beat that sorcerer into a bloody pulp, like we just did." Cherry Bomb offers, putting her stake in her belt and extending her hand.
"Ms. Cherry, uh, maybe you have the right intentions, but I don't know where you came from. Or if you're even real, for that matter. I'm not sure if I ca-"
"Oh, I'm real, you best believe that, sister. Wait, are you really going to pass this up?" she cuts me off.
"I don't know if I can trust you. I need m-more information before I go charging into something. You understand, right?"
"Oh." she says somberly. She looks down, darting her eyes around. "I mean, that makes sense. If I were in your position, I'd probably be a bit skeptical. Are you sure, though?" she asks hopefully. I nod my head. "Well, I guess that's cool. I tried." Cherry Bomb states, shrugging. She turns to the side, seemingly going towards the door. Then, she backhands me, slapping my face so hard that it knocks me to the floor. I grab my face, shocked, the sting of the slap still burning my cheek. She swiftly follows up with a kick to the side of my head, causing me to go even further down. "You want to play hard, bitch? Fine! No more Ms. 'Nice Cherry'."
Cherry grabs me by the throat, squeezing down for a second.
"If you won't tell me willingly, I'll just have to use other methods." she states, before grabbing my arms and pinning me down. Seconds later, yellow-green energy starts emanating off of her, and onto me. The minute it touches me, I feel some-kind of electrical shock pass through my nerves.
"Ahhh! Let me go!" I scream, the pain getting worse by the second. I try kicking her off me, but she has a firm grip on my wrists. Feels like I'm touching a live wire, the shock reverberating throughout my body.
"You can't do this alone! Those two fools won't be able to stop Certrius and his minions. You need him. You couldn't save Braxton. You couldn't save yourself. You need a teacher, and you need me! SO JUST GIVE UP! SHOW ME WHERE YOU ARE!"
Rosemary's Pov, Talbott Inn, Main Room, Morning
Half asleep, I hear the raspy voice of the amulet speak in my head.
"Assassin, wake up! Now!" he commands.
I get up immediately. I begin to hear Allie's cries from the partially opened door. In an instant, I'm on my feet and bolting to her room. Throwing open the door, I see her thrashing and shaking violently, her screams getting louder. I run to her and grab her shoulders.
"Allie? I'm here! What's happening?!" I ask. Her eyes open slightly, the familiar blue changing to every color of the rainbow. She continues to scream and thrash around.
"Stop! Let me go! Please, it hurts!" she yells. She arches her back and rolls out of my grasp, almost falling off the bed. I swiftly grab her before she can and take her into my arms. I've seen enough. I need to speak with Cal, now! I bring her to the main room, lay her down on the couch, grab the burlap sack and throw dust into the cauldron. I speak the summoning words in the Ancient tongues, before a smoke cloud appears.
"Kaduran. Merchant T'soti residence. Urgent!" I practically yell, as Allie continues to scream. It feels like someone is stabbing my heart with a knife every time I hear her pain-filled shrieks. The hourglass appears. I go to the couch and grab her.
"Rosemary-" I hear her call, before she contorts in pain again.
"Bunny, I'm here! I'm right here! Tell me what you need! Tell me what's wrong." I plead to her, wrapping my arm around her midsection and putting my other hand on her face.
"It *shudder* feels like someone's shocking me! Make it stop! Stop it, CHERRY! Please! Aahhh!" she wails, and I feel my emotions going wild, the amulet beginning to burn again. Whoever the fuck this Cherry is, I want her dead! The smoke cloud changes as Caretaker's face appears.
"Rosemary? You called me on an urgent summon. What is wrong?" he asks. I turn to the cauldron, Allie still shaking in my arms.
"Caretaker! I have no idea! I was asleep when the amulet told me to wake up. I heard Allie screaming from the bedroom. She's having another nightmare, she's in a lot of pain, and she won't let up. I need Cal. NOW!" I scream.
Caretaker's screen goes black as he puts me on hold. Allie continues to thrash about. The hourglass shows, before Caretaker reappears. He shakes his head. "The cloud says no one is available. He must have left for the Tournament already. Damn!" he shouts, smacking the cauldron.
"Fucking hell! Is there any way to contact him?" I ask, Allie shaking violently in my arms.
"No, I'm sorry! His atlas must be off and buried in his pack, so there's no way to contact him now. By the assassins…" he says, looking at Allie. I open my mouth, but Allie screams again, arching her back. She stops abruptly, going silent, convulsing as her eyes roll back.
"Allie! Damn it all! Bunny? Bunny, can you hear me?"
"Assassin!" the raspy voice of the amulet speaks. "Listen to us carefully. We have not much time. Grab the amulet and put it to the Bunny's lips! It is the only way we can help her!" he argues.
"What? No! How can I trust you? How do I know you aren't a threat?" I respond to the voice in my head.
"We have no time to debate this! If we wanted the girl dead, we would not have woken you to her torment. Now do it, or suffer the consequences of inaction!" the voice tells me. Damn it, I have no choice. By the Guild, please work. Taking the amulet in my hand, I put it to Allie's lips. Surprisingly, this time the centerpiece is cold. At first, nothing happens. Then, the blue light of the amulet begins to shine brightly. It swiftly surrounds her entirely. Please work! Come on Allie, come back to me.
Allie's Pov
*dream sequence*
The electrifying shocks continue to course through my body, causing me to shriek in pain. Cherry rolls her eyes, which are now completely green in color.
"Come on, now. Show me where you are. You can't do this without me. Without him." she emphasizes, looking me over. She does a double-take, before speaking again. "Huh? Well, that's weird. At least you're starting to look a bit better." Still feeling extreme pain, I start to hear another voice.
"This was not part of the plan." a man says calmly, before screaming. "Release her!"
"Hey, it's not my fault she's a stubborn bitch. A few more seconds and I'll have all yo-" Cherry starts to say, before stopping mid-sentence. A cold chill unexpectedly passes through the room. A blue smoke cloud appears behind Cherry. The cloud then begins to speak.
"We do not take kindly to the destruction of cosmic order, Cherry." a low and raspy male voice utters. Cherry freezes, her body rigid, and her breathing shaky. She swallows before responding.
"I-I didn't-"
"Nor are we particularly fond of you entering this Realm without permission." the voice continues, surrounding Cherry with a black aura. She lets me go, the pain ending immediately. She scrambles to her feet, eyes wide, trying to escape. As the black aura corners her and begins to surround her again, the yellowish-green energy pushes back against it, enveloping Cherry. It pulls her away from both me and the aura.
"No, wait! I almost-"
"Quiet! You are no use to us now." the male voice from earlier says. Cherry's body is covered momentarily in green energy, before she disappears from sight.
"You know not what havoc you bring. We will have your head for this, cultist." the raspy voice speaks with venom. The cloud comes closer to me. "Little mortal. Though your aesthetics have changed, your soul remains. Return now, Bunny. The assassin awaits." he states, before everything goes black and I feel myself starting to wake up.
Allie's Pov, Talbott, Main Room
"Allie?! Can you hear me, Bunny? Allie?" I hear Rosemary ask me, her voice soothing to my ears. I slowly open my eyes, placing my right hand to my temple. Feels like I have the biggest migraine ever. Like jackhammers are pushing into my brain.
"Ow, my head." I respond.
"Oh, thank the Guild!" she says, pulling me flush against her, wrapping her arms protectively around me. I slowly loop my arms around her and bury my head in her shoulder. "Are you alright?" she asks softly, her voice breaking.
"I-I think so. Though, *groan*, I could really go for a cup of coffee." I say, feeling my body relax into her embrace. It feels nice to be held like this, especially by Rosemary. Her hair tickles my face, and her mouth and chin are on my shoulder. Her hands hold me close, and her large chest is directly against mine. If my heart rate wasn't fast before, it is now.
"Allie? Are you sure you are alright, my lady?" I hear Caretaker ask. Rosemary must have called him. I peek over her shoulder and look at the cauldron's smoke cloud, seeing Caretaker's worried expression.
"Hi Caretaker. I think I'm okay for now. Thanks." I say softly. He looks at me strangely, before turning to Rosemary and speaking in a weird language, similar to the one used for summoning cauldrons. Rosemary separates from me for a second and looks down. Her eyes widen, clearly in shock at something. "What is it? Is there something wrong?" She looks at Caretaker, then back at me again.
"Allie, I need you to go into the bathroom. You're not going to believe us if we tell you." Helping me to my feet and letting me go, I turn from Rosemary, and shakily make my way to the bathroom. She tries to help me, but I tell her I'm okay, trying to get my bearings. The blood begins to rush to my legs as I swiftly open the door and look in the mirror. Now I see why they were shocked.
Staring at my own reflection, I can't believe what I'm seeing. My eyes have changed color! The normal blue eyes I'm used to have been replaced by two chocolate brown ones, almost identical to Cherry's. Gasping at the change, I notice something shiny in my mouth. Sticking out my tongue, I notice a silver barbell piercing, right in the middle, glimmering in the light. How in the...? What in the hell is going on!
To be continued!
Author's Note: Hey everybody! Woah! Talk about some drastic stuff. Allie's horrifying dream with Certrius, followed by the introduction of Cherry Bomb? She helped Allie and offered her knowledge to use the Jade Jewel against Certrius. Allie's not sure if she can trust this, so Cherry goes crazy! Not exactly the best first impression. Rosemary's amulet woke her, and with Allie's pain so clear, she desperately made the call to Caretaker for Cal's help… to no avail. Luckily, the amulet's voice intervened, and was able to stop Cherry and whoever the other person was. Allie woke up, relieving both Rosemary and Caretaker, but not before realizing her eyes have changed to brown and she has a tongue piercing? How could this happen? How did Cherry Bomb get into her dreams? Why did she attack Certrius? Why was she so afraid of the amulet voice? Until next time, have a great holiday week!
