Aftermath of the Dark War Chapter 42: Blood and Souls by Jurassicfatt

Allie's Pov, Omni Sports Tournament, Observatory, Afternoon

My body is frozen in place. The woman from my dream and the Warlord James Mitchell are here!

"It... can't be." Allysin says aloud.

"Tha-that looks exactly like Father James Mitchell! From the Siege of Tartiricia!" Chelsea whisper-yells to Allysin. "But h-he's dead. That can't be him!"

"Why in the world are Sergeant Keeril and his men with him?" Rebel asks.

"We all need to get out of her now!" I yell. "Come on!" Rebel and I start to run. I turn around and see Chelsea and Allysin right behind us, but Su and the woman with the club are now fully sprinting in our direction. We're trying to get back to the observatory and onto the road we came from. Four more 'bridesmaids' come out of the bushes, blocking our path. Rebel punches one down, but is grabbed by another one, who pulls out a knife. She tries to stab Rebel, but I shove her to the ground before she can. The four of us continue towards the observatory, before a flash of green hits a large tree and it topples in front of us, leaves falling all around. Thunk! Guards and bridesmaids surround us, weapons in hand. Rebel grabs a branch from the ground. I pull the knife out from my boot, while Allysin and Chelsea ready their fists.

"Allie?" Allysin asks in a mocking sweet tone, "Mind filling us in on why these freaks are trying to kill us?!" One of Keeril's men yells, before running at us.

"Long story." We move to dodge his spear, Rebel hitting him with her branch. The other soldiers and bridesmaids all start to attack us.

"Shorten it!" Allysin screams, knocking out two other soldiers. Damn, she's strong!

"I'm from another dimension. I found a jewel in a cave, and got kidnapped by an evil sorcerer. Was saved by Rosemary. Turns out it's a super powerful gem that both he and Mitchell want, and now they're hunting me." I stab a soldier in the shoulder. He groans before I smack his face, then push him on the ground and kick him in the head.

"Well, aren't you just the bringer of bad luck!" Allysin puts forth, grabbing another guard, before spinning and tossing him into three bridesmaids.

"It's not like Allie did this on purpose, Allysin!" Chelsea says, punching a bridesmaid away. She looks back at me. "Right?"

Kicking another bride, I respond. "Of course, I didn't do it on purpose! I was on vacation when it happened!"

"Girls, let's worry about staying alive now, okay?!" Rebel cuts in, now fending off the bridesmaids with one of the guards' spears. We all continue to fight the aggressors. A bridesmaid tries to stab Chelsea from behind with a dagger, but I slash her arm and push her down. Chelsea punt kicks her chin, and the bridesmaid topples to the ground. I turn around as another one tries to stab me from above. A white shoe collides with the woman's head, knocking her face first towards the ground. I look and see Allysin straighten herself out, before looking at me. I smile at her.

"Oh, get over it!" she screams, bringing her fists up. The bridesmaids keep coming. They just won't quit! Chelsea and I work in tandem, each of us landing slashes/hits on a bridesmaid. Rebel and Allysin partner up, smacking down anyone who comes near with spears. Suddenly, the two leading women, the bride with the katana and the other with the club, arrive. The club woman smashes it against Rebel's spear, then punches her in the stomach and head. The bride cuts Allysin's spear into two pieces. She uses her sword in a controlled, but powerful manner. Allysin blocks her sword strikes with the pieces, but eventually they are broken down to wooden stubs. She throws the remnants of the spear at the bride's face, before grabbing another one. The bride superkicks her in the face, then tries to cut her. I run and tackle Allysin down. The bride slashes the air, barely avoiding us. I try to sweep her feet, but she flips onto the fallen tree. She screams in the indiscernible language again. The bridesmaids all rise, dragging themselves to their feet. Some are bleeding and bruised, but they all get up. What the hell! How is that even possible?! I then spot Mitchell walk up with Sergeant Keeril, Officer Tertax and a bunch of beaked demons similar to the ones Certrius had. He takes a handkerchief, wiping sweat off his brow.

"Su! I believe they've had enough. Tell the maid of honour to call off the attack." he yells, his sniveling voice ringing out in the open field. The now named Su speaks again, causing the maid of honor to wave with both hands. The bridesmaids then stop moving, standing in place. The small Warlord looks down at me. "Allie! It is so good to finally meet you! We've never been formally introduced. I am Father James Mitchell, the 'advocate'. Patriarch of the Holy Church of our Dark Lord and Savior, Satan. This is the Dark Lord's wife to be, the undead bride Su Yung, and her undead maid of honor and bridesmaids." He points to the woman on the tree, the club woman and the others. Su Yung? Isn't that the former assassin that Rosemary told me about? "Now," he pulls out a silver pocket watch, "it is vitally important that you come with us. Time is ticking, and we need you to-"

"She ain't going anywhere with the likes of you." Rebel argues, slowly getting up. She gives me her hand and helps me to my feet.

"Keep quiet, or I'll hit you with my club again." Officer Tertax says, lifting his club up. He and Sergeant Keeril move up, but Mitchell lifts a hand.

"Stop." he whispers, the two doing as they're told. "Excuse me, my dear, I commend your loyalty to your friend. I do. In fact, I'm willing to allow you to come with Allie if you feel that strong about keeping her safe. You can all come along! You've all proven you're worthy to be in my parish. All I need from y-"

"I'm not going anywhere, and neither is she." Chelsea says, picking Allysin up from the ground.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime! True salvation, under my guidance. I will be a father to you all, treat you as my own. But you must join my parish, first. What do you say?" We don't move, unresponsive to his requests. Finally, Allysin and Chelsea look at each other, then shake their heads to him. "Defiant to the end. How noble. Well, I just need the Bunny, so if you would be so kind?" he says, then does a shooing motion with his hands.

"Sergeant Keeril. You betrayed the hostess Vivian for this man? Is that really going to look well for your future?" Rebel asks him.

"Keep quiet, worker. If it hadn't been for you, I would have been able to give the girl to him earlier." the Sergeant rebuttals.

"What are you talking about?" a soldier walks up and takes off their helmet, revealing a woman with long blond hair.

"Did you really think the 'Duchess' destroyed that racer's chariot wheel?" he asks. Allysin turns to me.

"Wait, so you really weren't behind that?" she asks me.

"No! What made you think I would do that? I thought you and Chelsea did it?" I tell them.

"I wasn't sure what you were capable of. And what are you crazy? I wanted to win, and I may have paid off a judge, but I'm not going to let Chelsea or myself get convicted of vandalism! It would completely destroy what little reputation we have left at home!"

"Our quarrel is not with you, Allysin Kay and Duchess Van Ness. We need the Bunny. If you leave now, we will not harm you." Keeril proclaims.

"Okay, first off, fuck you for calling my friend that name. Second, you think I'd trust your word after you betrayed the Brokers?" Allysin argues.

Rebel looks towards her feet, then whispers through her teeth. "Come close and wait for my signal." She looks at Su Yung, now kneeling on the fallen tree. "Hey bride?" Su's gaze moves to Rebel's. "You know, you are ugly as sin! Only the Dark Lord could love such a hideous thing!" Su growls in her throat. Okay, now I'm starting to see how Rebel and Rosemary are related.

"What are you doing?" I whisper.

"Trust me." she whispers back. "Great advocate Mitchell, I've been thinking. Maybe we should join your parish. It might be in our best interest to do so." He raises an eyebrow, then clasps his hands together.

"Splendid! You finally start to see the light. How did you come to this decision?"

"Well, considering you turned more than half of the Tournament guards over to you, you must be very persuasive. Being a makeup girl ain't as paying as it used to be. I'm interested. Just make sure to call off Su and her bridesmaids, first." Rebel says, putting a hand in her back pocket.

"Nothing a little gold can't solve. Don't worry, they will not harm you if you join. And you are more than welcome to continue to work whatever jobs you had, at my Haven. There are many girls that would be eager to have an aesthetician make them look more appealing for the parish, especially around festivals. And Allysin Kay, you and your friend are great fighters. Security is a paramount issue, and it is vital that my followers know they can have proper protection services. With that comes title, and with title comes privilege and respect. You three can come with Allie, and will never have to pay money for food, lodging or equipment; everything will be provided for you upon your arrival." he offers.

"Do you happen to have a contract?"

"As I matter of fact, I do." He reaches into his jacket, his hand glowing red. He pulls out a long paper, with black ink writing, in his hands. "All you need to do is sign." He smiles slyly, putting the paper forward and walking towards us.

"Alright, just let me get my pen." Rebel pulls hand out of her back-jean pocket, and goes into her front ones. She pulls her hand out, closed in a fist, but grabbing onto something. "Here you… are!" Rebel throws something at Mitchell. Two thuds can be heard as they hit the floor in front of him. In seconds, a large green gas cloud explodes from the objects, blocking Mitchell, Keeril and the remaining guards from sight. You can hear Mitchell and the guards begin to cough. Rosemary's gas bombs! Rebel throws another one at Su and two more at the undead maid of honor and bridesmaids, puffs of green and purple blocking their lines of sight. "RUN!" she yells, and we bolt, kicking two bridesmaids out of the way as we run into the forest.

"AFTER THEM!" Mitchell yells, before coughing again. Su can be heard yelling; the sounds of bark being cut and trees hitting the forest floor behind us.

"This is another way to the exit! I saw it on the map on the road over here." Rebel explains. We run past the trees, and see the observatory's adjacent building. We keep going, until finally the opening arch of the gardens can be seen.

"We made it!" Chelsea cheers. Just then, Su flips over us and right in front the gate, blocking our path. The undead maid of honor is not far behind us. I can hear Keeril and his men coming closer. Allysin grabs a dying tree, ripping the bark off into a makeshift shield. Su runs at us, sword behind her. When she comes close, she slashes her sword at Allysin. Allysin dodges, then smacks her in the head. Su stumbles, before slashing against the bark, breaking off a piece. The undead maid of honor goes after Rebel. Rebel tries to throw another gas bomb, but she grabs Rebel's hand and twists it, the bomb falling from her grasp. I run and jump on the maid of honor's back, using my weight to topple her. The gas bomb goes off while I do this, creating a purple smoke cloud around us. Rebel and I hold our breath to avoid the gas, then use the distraction to make our escape.

Chelsea throws rocks at Su, trying to distract her as she continues to hack piece after piece off the bark held by Allysin. Eventually, she thrusts forward, splitting the piece in half. Allysin moves out of the way as to not get hit, then drops the bark. Su slashes at her three times. Allysin dodges them all, but Su kicks her midsection and she falls down to the ground. Su tries to stab her, but Allysin rolls out of the way. The katana stabs deep into the ground, and Allysin kicks Su, causing her to let it go. She gets up and grabs Su, Chelsea coming with a jagged rock in hand. Su spins in her grasp, wrapping her legs around Allysin's head and using a hurricanrana to throw her into Chelsea. As we try to make our way to the exit, she pulls her katana from the ground and something else from her back.

Thwack! A sting, followed by something rough wrapping around my leg. Looking down, I see a black whip latched around my left ankle, holding my foot in place. Su holds the whip's handle in her hands, then pulls it hard, causing me to trip and fall face down on the ground. She then pulls in quick, hard strokes. I grab at the floor for anything to stop me from going towards her, but to no avail. Rebel grabs my hands and tries to stop her, but only gets pulled with me. I see a heeled boot collide with her face. I roll over and watch as Su circles us. Staring at Rebel, she lifts her katana over her head, the blade glimmering in the light, preparing to slash down at her.

"No!" I jump on top of Rebel, blocking her body with my own. Closing my eyes, I wait to feel the steel blade cut into my flesh.

CLANG! Opening my eyes at the sound, I look at Rebel, who is staring in front of her, still dazed from the kick. Looking up, I see Rosemary above us, moving her sword around to block the katana strikes. Su's teeth are grit, a look of hatred painted across her face. She screams. Rosemary yells at us, her voice strained.

"Bunny, run!" She bashes her sword against the katana, forcing Su backwards and into a roll. I turn to see Cal casting blue and white spells, knocking the maid of honour on her back and blocking bridesmaids with a forcefield. He motions with his head to come to him. Chelsea and Allysin follow him, the latter bleeding from a few cuts on her arms. Helping Rebel up and putting her right arm around my shoulder, we go over to them as quickly as possible. Peering past the gate, I notice large flames and smoke coming from the tents of the Tournament. Dear God, there too?! I look behind me to see Rosemary clashing swords with Su.

"Rosemary! We can't let her fight them on her own!" I call out.

"We need to get back to the tents!"

"We cannot. Some of Keeril's men have switched sides, and they have lit tents on fire! My job is to get you out of harm's way!" Cal writes.

"We've got to get to shelter. The observatory's the only building close." Chelsea cuts in to say.

"But it's locked!" Rebel asserts. Cal continues to block the bridesmaids, then shines a massive white light in their faces, blinding them. "Let me handle that!" he writes. Noticing her injuries, he grabs Rebel and hoists her over his shoulder, going to the observatory's doors as Allysin, Chelsea and I follow. He has one hand above us, the forcefield impenetrable from the guards' and bridesmaids' weapons. They try to attack, but can't get past it. He closes his fists, and the swarm of enemies all go flying in different directions, colliding with trees and dirt. I turn to look behind us. Rosemary is still dueling with Su, their yells echoing in the dark forest.

Rosemary's Pov, Observatory, Late Afternoon/Early Evening

Clashing my sword against the bride's, I feel the power of her attacks. Every movement she makes is calculated and purposeful. She's been trained, no doubt about it. Her fighting style seems… familiar. She tries to hit my chest, but I block her strike. The two of us, locked in a battle where only one can survive, neither of us landing a single blow. Yet.

From the corner of my eye, I see a stocky, short, bald man in a red suit walk up with his cane just a few feet from us. I recognize him instantly.

"I see we have some competition." he proclaims. "Su, stand down. I wish to talk with the woman for a second." Su ends our sword clash, before flipping back a few feet. She sheathes her weapon, then looks at me with a tilt of her head. I hold my sword steady, in case she tries anything, before Father James Mitchell walks around me, the silver wolf head of his cane gleaming in the sunset. He looks in front of him, taking slow, gingerly steps. "So, I take it you are the assassin who injured Certrius?"

"I am." Mitchell continues walking, an air of superiority in his step as he holds his head up high. Like a king before the court.

"I can also assume, then, that you know who I am?"

"I do." Some of the bridesmaids and soldiers continue their assault on the others, but Cal's forcefield flings them away. 'Su' continues to stare at me, her chest heaving in anticipation for our next bout.

"Oh, don't worry about her. She won't attack you without 'my' orders." he asserts. "I bet you're wondering why her fighting style seems so familiar, hm?" I glare at him. "She got her training from Arihota. Didn't you Su?" Su nods.

Arihota. Now it makes sense. Su Yung. One of the greatest assassins to ever be trained in Arihota academy. A star pupil, with a bright future, too quickly destroyed. She's been missing for years, ever since she refused to send aid to Pevonia and betrayed her own sisters, killing them for 'a higher calling'. She's wanted by every academy in the Undead Realm. What is she doing with Mitchell?

"Yes, yes, that is the mighty Su Yung. As I told your companion, she is the bride to the Dark Lord himself."

"Yeah, and I'm the king of Tartiricia." Mitchell squints his eyes.

"So, you know your history?"

"Yes. And how you managed to survive."

"Then you know why I am here. My question is: why do you feel the need to be combative? I always get what I want, assassin. Always."

"If that was true, you wouldn't have lost the jewel in the first place. And you wouldn't have let Govion die either."

"YOU INSULTI- *deep breath* That was a mistake from another time. A blunder caused by a faithful companion."

"What it proves is that you put too much faith in fools."

"Oh? And I suppose your academies do so much better. Letting villages get decimated on a daily basis, while the cities stay nice and safe behind impenetrable walls and guard towers." Mitchell stops right behind me. "Or, perhaps your new found faith is in your 'Shadow' friend, hm?" My eyes go wide.

"How do y-"

"Believe me, girl, I know more than most. Whatever he told you is a lie. You can try your damnedest, but at the end of the day, even 'he' can't win this. 'He' can't stop this. Call it fate. Call it destiny. I'm here, and you know what I want. Or, more accurately, 'who' I want."

"Never going to happen." I tell him, my tone firm.

"Hahaha! You really think you know everything, don't you? My goodness, some people. Look, for all it's worth, I commend your bravery and your devotion to the academies and the Guild. I do. But it isn't worth dying over. This is something beyond your petty little quotas. This was set in motion long before you were even an issue. Long before you born, in fact. This is true history in the making. So, run along. Go back to hunting. Soon enough, the whole realm will-"

"Look, Father James Mitchell, I'm only going to say this again once, so listen up. Never. Going. To. Happen! Now go, before I lose what little patience I have left." I threaten. He lifts his devil horn eyebrows in surprise, then gives me a puzzling look. A hooded woman walks up to Su, standing next to her alongside the woman with the club from earlier.

"Wait-Oh! I see what's going on here. This isn't about just another quota, or about the Guild. Hell, this isn't even about the Realm. This is about 'her'. Isn't it? Hahaha!" he argues, laughing aloud.

"Go anywhere near her, and I'll do worse to you than I did Certrius."

"Ooo! The big bad assassin is going to get me! What ever shall I do?" Mitchell mocks, putting his hands in mock fright. "Hahaha! So young and foolish, the heart is. *Sigh* Well, is there any way we can come to an accord?" I stay silent, clutching my sword tightly in my hand. "No?" he asks, then turns around. "Su, go ahead."

Su Yung runs straight at me. I do the same, the two of us jumping and slashing our swords, the metal colliding. The club woman swings at me, but I kick her stomach and slash her back. Su swings at me, but I dodge and weave away. I counter her, but she matches my every move. I see the hooded figure walking up to Allie, Cal, and the others. I then slash Su's leg, superkick her in the face and punch the 'maid of honour' away.

"Cal! There's a bridesmaid breaching through." I turn around and see the hooded woman punch out Allysin. Chelsea jumps on her back, but is swiftly tossed to the ground. Cal shoots white spells at her, but a green energy shield blocks his attacks. I see the woman pulling something from her back, before stabbing Cal in his right hand. Cal looks shocked, as his whole hand and wrist goes black.

I run to intercept, before feeling something wrap around my arm. I turn and see a black whip around it, with Su and her maid of honor holding me in place. I throw my sword to my other arm and cut the whip. I turn and watch as Allie tries slashing her away with her knife. The woman blocks her attack and smacks her down. Cal has fallen to one knee, the forcefield he created dimming in intensity. The woman proceeds to kick Allie repeatedly in the ribs. I sprint as fast as I can and grab the woman by her hood, pulling her off Allie. It tears off… revealing Cherry Bomb! Near identical to Allie, except for her brown hair and hate-filled expression, scowling with nostrils flaring and eyes staring daggers at me. She tries to stab me with her white stake. I easily block it and try cutting her down, before a black whip hits my hand and I drop my sword. Cherry uses the distraction to stab me. I move away, but not quick enough. The stake goes into my side. Not deep, but enough for me to feel the sting. I grab her wrist with my left hand, pushing the stake out. I twist her arm. She yells and drops the weapon. I punch her in the head and shove her to the ground. I grab my sword and go to Allie and Cal. But before I even have a chance to check on them, I feel the crack of a whip across my back. I arch forward from the sting, then hear Su yell.

Turning, I watch her run and slash at me again. I roll to dodge her sword, before the two of us continue our duel.

"What?" I hear Allie say. "Cal? Cal, are you alright? Oh my God, your hand." Su looks at me, smiles, then pushes me back. She runs for them, the forcefield now fully down. I catch up and tackle her before she can get to them. "Rosemary?"

Straddling her, I stab my sword at Su, but she blocks my attack. "Cal! Get them inside!" I tell him, straining against Su. She begins speaking in a weird language. Sounds like a mix of the Ancient Tongues and something else entirely. Her sword begins to glow green. "Do it now!"

Using his left hand, he finally forces the doors open. But the maid of honour hits him in the back and grabs Allie by the hair. Rebel tries to stop her, but the bridesmaids have now grabbed her, Allysin, and Chelsea.

"Allie!" I feel my amulet heating up. Su pushes me off of her. She gets up and I stand to face her. I hear the voices speaking in my heard. Su points her katana at me and a ball of green energy hits the amulet, phasing right through my sword. I feel a jolt. The voices slowly disappear, and it begins to cool against my skin. Nothing but silence. Her katana glows green, the same color as Certrius' spells.

"Huh?"

"I told you, assassin." Mitchell's voice echoes out. "I always get what I want. Su, end this." Su screams in response. She moves quicker than I can, cutting my arm. The cut is followed by a burning sensation on my arm, green vapors coming off the wound. Fuck that hurt! She screams again. I throw a smoke bomb at her, blocking her sight. I go straight for the bridesmaids harming Allie, Rebel and Chelsea. I gut each and every one. Allysin has gotten free, punching the shit out of every bridesmaid she can. I get to the maid of honour and hit her club, then cut her stomach, causing her to collapse. Grabbing Allie, I swiftly bring her to the observatory.

"Rosemary, your arm."

"Never mind. Let's get you insi-"

"LOOK OUT!" Allie yells. Su rushes towards us. I block Su's attack and shove her away. I push Allie towards the door, putting myself between her and Su.

"Go inside. Now!" I order. Allie nods and heads in, helping Rebel and Cal in. It's time to end this! I attack Su, using my training to break her form and create openings. But Su seems unafraid, her evil smile never faltering. Even though she's bleeding from her leg, it barely fazes her. She yells and sticks her hand out. The whip is thrown to her by a bridesmaid, the item turning green and rebuilding itself before my very eyes. She wraps it around my left arm, and barbs form, digging into my flesh. "Argh!"

I pull her closer, ignoring the barbs cutting deeper, and knee Su in the face. She lets go of the whip, and I throw it away. She shakes her head, seemingly unfazed. Su's katana begins glowing emerald green, its light flickering over the ground. She hits my sword-CLANK. Suddenly, something hits the ground with a Thud. I immediately look at my weapon, and sure enough, the top piece is missing, and a mark where it was cut has formed. I look down, something shiny catching my eye; it's the top end of my sword! Su attacks, and I dodge it. On instinct, I block her next strike, and another piece comes off, making my sword even shorter. She does it again, rendering the sword useless, and then lands a cut on my already damaged left arm.

"Ah!" I yell in pain, grabbing my knife from my belt. Two bridesmaids then grab me. I fight them off, but it gives Su enough time to slash at my leg. Barely dodging it, I feel a blunt object smack my back. "Urgh!" I turn and stab a bridesmaid wielding a stick, but Su cuts across my back, tearing my shirt and drawing more blood. The pain is excruciating, as every cut is followed by that same burning sensation. Whatever it is, it's draining my stamina fast. Need to get out of this fight. I can't keep this up for much longer.

Unexpectedly, the trees start attacking the bridesmaids, their black branches extending, wrapping around and pinning them to their trunks. One of them grabs Su, covering her whole body and pulling it away. She yells, her green energy growing brighter by the second. I use the opportunity to bolt for the observatory, however fast my body can get me there. Cal is using his good arm to making a dome of branches around the building, shielding us from the outside. When I come in, he closes it, sealing the dome. We slam the doors shut, Cal cauterizing the seams. Roots break through the ground, covering the door in an even greater layer of protection. Allie looks at me, a hand covering her mouth. The six of us make our way to the one of the display rooms, hoping that Cal's defenses will give us enough time to come up with a new plan.

To be continued!
