21ST DISTRICT
Erin and Jay entered the precinct with little Lena, whose tiny hand was nestled securely in Jay's.
"Hey there, munchkin!" Platt greeted with a grin.
Lena beamed and tightened her grip on Jay's hand.
"You ready to head upstairs?" Jay inquired.
Lena gave a vigorous nod, her pacifier bobbing in agreement.
"Alright, let's hit it," Jay said with a warm smile.
Together, they ascended to the bullpen.
"Here's what's going to happen," Jay explained to Lena, "there'll be a lineup of people behind that screen. They won't be able to see you, but you'll have a clear view of them."
Lena's nod was hesitant as she removed her pacifier.
As the six men exited, a wave of panic overtook Lena.
"No…" she murmured faintly.
The team's attention shifted to Lena.
"You alright, sweetheart?" Jay inquired with concern.
Tears streamed down Lena's face as she struggled to breathe.
"Shh, it's all good," Jay comforted her.
He lifted Lena into his arms, and her small fingers clung to his jacket.
"We're not going back in there," Jay assured her firmly.
With Lena still gasping for air, Jay carried her out of the room.
Hank let out a weary sigh as he surveyed the lineup of suspects.
Back at the bullpen later on, the team regrouped.
"How's Lena doing?" Adam inquired.
Erin slumped into her chair with a sigh.
"She's over at Chicago Med, Will's giving her a once-over. Jay's with her,"
The team acknowledged the news with nods and settled into their seats.
JAY'S APARTMENT
Jay was in the kitchen whipping up some toddler-friendly pasta for Lena, who was busy coloring a picture of a police cruiser.
"Got some yummy pasta for you, munchkin!" Jay announced cheerfully.
Lena responded with a giggle and happily munched on her pasta.
A knock at the door interrupted the quiet, and Jay rose to answer it.
Voight stood there flanked by the rest of the unit.
"Hey, team!" Jay greeted with a warm smile.
The group entered, each offering a smile in return.
Lena, still nibbling on her pasta with her little hands, spotted Voight.
"Mr. Bossy!" she exclaimed in her childlike babble.
A soft chuckle escaped Hank; he always had a soft spot for children.
"Hi there, little one!"
Jay settled beside Lena, assisting her with the coloring book.
"Hank cleared his throat, "Mind if I show you some pictures?"
Lena's eyes lifted to meet his, "Okay."
Hank spread out a photo lineup on the table.
"Just point to the man you saw at your house," he instructed gently.
Lena inhaled deeply, scanning the faces before pointing decisively, "That one."
Hank gave a solemn nod.
"You sure, sweetheart?" Jay double-checked.
Her nod was firm even as tears welled up, "He hurt my mommy!"
Jay scooped Lena into his arms, her face buried in his chest as he comforted her, "You did great, kiddo. You did really great."
Hank closed the photos and gave Lena a supportive pat on the back.
"Great work, kiddo!" he said with a smile.
The team rose from their seats, leaving Lena wiping away tears in Jay's embrace, as he rocked her gently.
After bidding farewell, they departed from the apartment.
