"Sans" (?) thoughts/speaking in the mind- "Hi."
Samuel thoughts/speaking in the mind - "Hello."
sans thoughts/speaking in the mind - "heya."
System - [What?]
(43800 minutes before the last human's arrival)
"Sans" was laying down on his mattress (bed) while looking up at the ceiling of his room.
He seemed to be in a state of confusion, and it showed in his expression. Well, as much as you could show while being a skeleton and having no eyebrows. He just kept staring at the ceiling before he began to slowly lift himself up from the mattress and look around "his" place.
"..."
In front of him was a self-sustaining tornado of trash as he then looked at the other corner of the room to see a bunch of dirty socks. There was a treadmill in the middle of "his" room.
His glowing white eyelights stopped on his hand. It was a skeleton's hand.
He stared at it for a long while.
"..."
A few minutes quickly passed with him just staring at his hand.
He remembers having these hands, but other memories tell him that these aren't his hands. This wasn't his body, but it is his body. This wasn't his room, but it is his room. He lives in the underground, but he also remembers living on the surface.
He feels like he isn't supposed to be a skeleton and feels like he was always human, but he is a skeleton and had been since his creation. "His" memories were just so mashed up that he didn't understand any of it.
"..." He put his hand down as he looked at the uncovered pillow which had a blue jacket on it. He reached over and picked it up.
His skull tilted looking at it. Like everything else ever since he woke up, it felt familiar yet familiar in a different way. He knew he wore it but also someone named sans. Was he "Sans"?
'heya.' He quickly jumped up in surprise due to the voice as the jacket fell onto the floor as he looked around.
"H-hello?" "Sans" began darting his skull around trying to decern the direction the voice had just came from.
'don't bother looking around "pal". cause i'm in "your" head or more specifically my head. tell me something, what exactly are YOU doing in my body?' Their tone was sharp like a knife as it was also simmering with hints of anger due to haveing their body suddenly taken.
It seemed his suspicions were true, and this really wasn't his body. 'Wait if this isn't my body, then how the hell did I get here and does this mean I'm stealing someone else's body!?"
'well, duh. i don't know how else this can be interpreted. also, you don't even know how you got my body? are you really trying to lie?' They said in a questioning deadpan tone. "Sans" wanted to freak out since this voice was able to hear his voice, but what was strange about the voice was sounded like his voice... but...
Before "Sans" could respond to the first voice, another voice cutted in not allowing him to speak. 'Alright what in the hell's going on!? Why am I suddenly in Sans's body? I was supposed to get my own body!' This voice felt frustrated and sounded like they were complaining to someone. They sounded more irritated than the first voice, but that might be because the first voice was able to hide their emotions better. This voice had the same strange thing about it, he remembered his voice sounded like that as well but he couldn't have two voices so which was true?
'someone else is in here? who are you?' The other voice was now confused by this new voice's appearance.
'OH GREAT! I am in Sans's body! Also! IT appears my voice is coming off as sarcastic, but I am not trying to be! That's just how it is coming off!' The voice seemed to shout sarcastically also defensively as if the other voice was going to call out his sarcasm. From what the voice said it was trying to sound genuine but was that sarcasm as well? He couldn't really tell. He also said this was Sans's body and the other person said it was his body which means that voice was sans. The original Sans.
"U-umm, hey guys. Could someone tell me what the is going on? I know I stole your body, but I really don't know how I got here. I don't know who I am. You two sound familiar but you don't?" "Sans" began to panic and stress out as he placed his hands on his skull as he began to breath in and out erratically. Wait, if he didn't have lungs how was he even breathing.
It was silent for a good minute which only stressed out "Sans" even more.
'...a'right. we should all probably calm down first since we ain't gonna get anywhere yelling at each other like this or panicking.' Sans replied in calm manner without showing any of his previous emotions. This stopped "Sans" panic mod as he quickly calmed down
The other voice didn't say anything for a couple of seconds before "Sans" suddenly heard a loud sigh in his head. "Fine. Alright. Your right. We will just be all day if we keep doing this. Let's actually try and progress. Who wants to begin."
"Can I ask first?" "Sans" asked with a bit hesitation due to not wanting to offend the other two by doing this.
'eh? sure why not, after all i can wait.' They said, still with the same eerily calm tone which made "Sans" all the more nervous since it was obvious they were hiding their emotions. They were probably angry and confused at having the body suddenly stolen.
"Sans" decided to stop being nervous and just do the same thing as him as all of his emotions went away as his expression became calm. He decided to talk in his head since they could hear his thoughts. If he guessed correctly, it was only if he spoke in a proper sentence in his head. 'So, who are you. I'm talking to YOU. Since I guess this is Sans's body which is the other voice since you called it Sans's body and the other voice said it was his body. So, who are YOU?'
They were silent for a moment '...Do you really want to know?' The Voice asked as if the information they had would blow his mind.
He didn't know what to think hearing this as he answered with a nervous tone. 'Yes?' He wasn't sure of himself, and it showed as much as he didn't want it to.
The voice took note of this as they began to think. 'Ok. Let's start from the top. The name is...' There was a small pause before they continued. Which made "Sans" think they were going to lie about their name. '...Samuel Smith. I am around 15 years old. You see, I come from another... dimension. I am a human and that lived on the surface in that dimension, and one day, I kind of... well I DID fall off a cliff and into the ocean after my nine-year-old brother nearly fell off that cliff. I had swung him around while also throwing him away from the cliff, but I was trying to pull him away but due to the wind that happened instead. Since we switched places, but no one managed to reach me when I fell down into the waters down below. Luckily the rocks were hard enough to split my skull open, so I didn't feel any of the pain, so it was alright. After all, it's better than drowning.' He explained his story and death without much emotion as he said it in an almost nonchalant manner.
"..." "Sans" sockets were opened wide by this. The person who he had just been speaking was a teen who had just died not only that, but he was just told that he came from another dimension.
'geez, that's uhh... one way to go. it certainly sounds like a mind opening experience.' sans added a bit awkwardly as he took in everything with a grain of salt just in case, they were lying but then again, they were in their body somehow, so this isn't as unbelievable. The joke he just made "Sans" snickered a bit before quickly stopping realizing what he was doing.
Samuel seeing this just waved it off 'Nah, no worries. That was actually kind of funny.' "Sans" hearing this decided to just stop being nervous since it was obvious these two wouldn't get mad over trivial things.
'as nice as it is to know your story, it doesn't exactly explain the current situation we are in.' "Sans" realized that sans was right, and it didn't tell them anything on how they got here or who he is.
'Also, how do you know the exact way you died?' A couple parts of Samuel's story just were not adding up.
'I was getting to that.' Samuel thought for a moment preparing their next statement. 'After I died, I got transported to some sort of void, from what I remember at least. A being of great power was there at that place. they told me they would send me to any world of my choosing.'
'why didn't you choose to go back to your old-world? also, why were you brought there to that being and not somewhere else? why did they pick you?' "Sans" could feel the eyebrow arch from sans within his skull as he was equally puzzled by Samuel's decision as well as this being's. Why pick some random nobody.
'Well, I did want to go back but when I requested to go back, they declined and when I kept pushing well, they made it feel as if I was facing something more terrifying than facing off against an entire universe. Which they probably were since they were able to do this. As for why they picked me... well. It was completely random on their end. They just plucked a soul that was going to enter oblivion at that moment and that was it.'
"Sans" could feel his sockets blink.
It was completely random?
Something just didn't feel right there. How could it be completely random? That made no sense.
He felt like scratching the back of his skull. Perhaps he is just overthinking this entire thing and it truly was completely random.
'As for how I ended up in this body... well... I have no idea. I got knocked out... well. I just ended up here. I was told I would start from the beginning in my body not inside a monster's body.' Samuel sounded a bit unsure of himself while saying this. He sounded as unsure as he would as if he left the toaster on and didn't know if he put bread in there or not.
'...' He still felt like Samuel was leaving something out but, he didn't know what it was.
'alright then, normally i would accept an answer in a normal situation.' sans remarked with a slightly merry tone with an edge to it. 'but alot of first, you knew my name before i even said it, secondly you picked a world but how did you know of this one in particular. third, you said "from the beginning." meaning you know of a start from the underground.' "Sans" sockets opened wide as he realized that everything, they just said was correct. How did Samuel know of this world and how did they know sans's name?
Samuel stayed silent at this and they continued to stay silent until Sans broke with a fake joking tone. 'well? don't you go anything to say or did somethin get stuck in your throat?'
'...fine, but this is going to be bigger reveal than the last one. I just want you two to be prepared.' Samuel let out a small sigh.
'well, it's not that easy to surprise me as it is to move me but, waking up to this and you saying you have something even bigger than what you just revealed... well, i can wait.' sans decided
"So, the world that I come from. This world, it people, it's all just a game. A window is used as the medium normally. We control other beings in order to interact with their world. You would be familiar with this concept if you ever played a game before. People who normally play a game are called "Players". The one that is controllable in this world is the last fallen. "Frisk".' Samuel concluded revealing just about every important detail he wanted to reveal.
A chill just ran down "Sans" spine. This world... was a game? His eyes looked around the room. Was this even a room, or was it all pixels? Made of ones and zeros?
He felt like he didn't quite grasp what he said. Perhaps it's his memory that was just too fragmented for him to suddenly have his world shattered since you couldn't really break something already broken.
sans on the other hand.
'so, paps, undyne, grillby, alphys, asgore, everyone. they are all... fake? we are all just... npcs? is our world really just, a game to you? have our whole lives have just been written out?' sans voice was slightly cracking while saying this.
'Well, no. The game was just a game, but this world is real. I don't see this world as a game since you aren't scripted. Your lives haven't been written out more so there is just a world out there that has this one as a game.' Samuel replied since none of them are scripted or set to follow a script he didn't see this as fake.
Hearing this made sans quiet for a couple of seconds before he began to chuckle with it soon devolving into full blown laughter. "Sans" decided to join in and soon after Samuel as well but they didn't understand why he was laughing
'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahaha!' They kept laughing until "Sans" decided to finally ask as Samuel also decided to stop (fake) laughing. "So, what's funny? I didn't hear any joke."
'hahahaha! s-orry it's just, that. it's so absurd!' sans managed to choke out through his laughter. His laugher gradually died and subsided. 'you two don't get. do you?' sans's voice was laced with amusement and resignation. 'it's all starting to make sense now. the anomalies. the timelines. we already had a lot going on in the underground and now adding this... well it's all so ironic.'
There was silence again. There seemed to be a lot of that. Samuel was trying to figure out how much sans knows about the timelines while sans was taking in everything Samuel just said.
"Sans" was quiet deciding to just listen since there wasn't much an amnesiac could add. He felt like he knew about this stuff, but he could only remember it when these two brought it up. Like a student who's right on the brink on having the answer until another student calls it out and it becomes clear.
The silence was broken by sans whose tone was once again controlled. 'so, sam, how much do you know about our world? since you were a... "player", you probably know a lot, right?'
'Yes, I know everything. Well, everything that was in the game at least. A few things could be different from the game, but I basically know every route possible, every reset script dialogue and secret.' Samuel responded.
"Sans" felt more restless than before. Routes and resets? The feelings he got from hearing them a huge unease that crawled up his spine.
'hmm, alright, let's try and piece this together. you just mentioned routes and rests? want to explain those in more detail?' sans prompted with "Sans" wanting the same thing.
'Sure, since we are sharing the same body, I may as well share everything. There are around... 93 possible endings in Undertale but let's remove one since that one is just a fake ending. Let's take away another since that one you have to mess around with the files getting the dirty hacker ending. Which leaves us with a grand total of. Drum roll please. 91 possible endings. They can be split into three groups. Pacifist, neutral and... genocide." Samuel paused as he realized genocide route might potentially happen in the future before continuing. "Pacifist as the name implies means sparing every single monster. This ending is where Frisk saves the underground and breaks the barrier setting the monsters free. The neutrals vary in how good or bad they are. Some are good others are worse, but each single one involves Frisk leaving and all the SOULs gathered till now disappearing along with Asgore's death." Samuel explained.
Samuel hesitated to explain the last one. He took a deep breath (Somehow. He made the sound of taking a deep breath from what "Sans" could hear) while explaining the last one. "Finally, genocide..."
'Genocide is where the Player controls Frisk to eliminate the entire underground, each encounter and every fight. They actively seek out monsters to fight and kill. When they reach the end. The world is erased no matter what decision the player makes after they reach the end of that route. Even if the world is reset. A pacifist route can never be achieved again.'
Both of them varying levels of shock that a route like that could exist. Although, "Sans" felt like he knew of it's existence.
'Who do something so stupid and terrible? You just said ruins the best ending in the game. Why would anyone do it?' "Sans" already knew the answer, but he hoped it wasn't that answer. It was a game and what drives players to complete and see every ending?
'Curiosity.' It was exactly what "Sans" thought as Samuel just continued. 'Curiosity to see every single route, action and ending possible.'
sans let out a small chuckle hearing this while asking in a dark tone 'and what about you sam? have you ever done genocide? out of curiosity? how do you know of its existence and consequences of it?'
The silence was far more tense. Samuel's hesitation to answer was already more than enough to tell the truth, and "Sans" could feel the tension peak in his head as he felt a mix of curiosity and dread.
Samuel finally spoke. ''Yes. I did the genocide route...once. I, like many players wanted to see it happen. I wanted to be the one to do it. I wanted to see everything the game had to offer. I know I could have just watch other players simply do it!... But, I am what you would call a "completionist". I had to see it till the end. It was... one of few experiences that I truly regretted doing now that I know the truth."
sans didn't respond immediately and "Sans" could feel the turmoil in sans's thoughts.
When sans did respond his voice was cold and devoid of any of his usual humor 'so, you wiped out everyone in the underground out? just for the sake of seeing what would happen? did you think it was worth it? killing everyone and erasing our world out of curiosity'
Samuel's voice was filled with remorse as he tried to reason with him 'You have to understand, in my world it was simply a game. It wasn't real. If it had been real..."
'if.' sans interrupted him with his voice mocking the word. 'if it had been real at the time, would it have stopped you? or would the same curiosity have driven you to do the same things as you did in the game. after all, if you were given power over space and time. a power like that can corrupt anyone. you probably thought "no one would remember. so why not right?" is that what you thought?'
Samuel let out a sigh of resignation. '...Look, at that time I thought it was just another challenge, another obstacle, but being here. Knowing this place existed. It feels like I hurt them. I am not asking for forgiveness. I know I don't deserve it for what I did but know that I promise I won't ever do it again.'
All three were quiet after Samuel said that. sans finally broke it. 'alright, i... appreciate your honesty, sam. it's not easy to admit something like... that. but you have got to understand, our trust is thin as it is. knowing you done it even to a version of the underground that isn't real. it's hard to ignore.'
'I understand. I don't expect you to ever trust me. I wouldn't trust myself either, but if you do give me a chance, then I shall help the best I can.'
"Sans" could feel the honesty Samuel said through his words, yet he also felt still lingering distrust from sans as sans decided to calm down.
'alright, let's just... move on from this. we should probably focus on the bigger issue on how the two of you are in my body. heck, i am not even in control of my body. now that i think about it, who are you? the one currently controlling.'
'Me?' "Sans" froze hearing this.
'Actually, that is a good question. Who are you? You're not sans so are you someone who came here from another world as well.' Questioned Samuel.
The sudden shift of attention onto him was nerve racking to say the least. His mind was already racing, trying find any fragments of memories he did have. He was in control of the body, yet he was the only one who didn't know who he was.
'I-i don't know for sure, but I have a theory.' This theory was more of a crack shot than anything since he only managed to put it together while talking to these two but, it was better than nothing.
'I think...'
"Sans" sat back down on his mattress as he once again as he lifted one his skeleton hands. He clenched it and unclenched it while ignoring the blue panel hologram looking screen that was in front of him instead focusing on the hand.
'I'm both of you," he steadied his thoughts for about to say 'I remember both of your lives but, only in fragments. I remember being called "Sans" and living in the underground, but I also remember living on the surface and being a human.'
Samuel and the original sans were processing what he just said.
'So, you are some sort of... amalgamation then?' Samuel asked, with his tone being carried by disbelief.
'I guess?' Even "Sans" didn't really believe what he said but there really wasn't any other explanation.
'hey, pal, you said you have two separate sets of memories all jumbled up in that mind of yours. you aren't you having any headaches from it, right? because that would make our mind's ache as well.' sans joked, masking his actual worry.
"Sans" or the person who was in control nodded. 'Yes. It's difficult to say which one is real and fake cause sometimes they overlap. This makes me think they are both real.'
'Damn. That's... a lot to take in.' Samuel quipped while still trying to understand what he just heard. 'I don't... how does that even work?'
'I'll be honest. I have no clue.' "Sans" admitted 'But it's the only explanation that makes sense. I have both of your memories and it feels like I am both of you and neither of you at the same time. Maybe whatever happened while you got sent here, it went wrong, and you ended up in sans's body somehow. Parts of your identities then merged to become me and now I am controlling the body. I think that's what happened at least.'
The mind of Sans became silent once more, each of the three occupants thinking over the possible implications of this theory that seemed to be true the more they thought about it. "Sans" just sat on the mattress, still thinking what he could actually be. He truly might just be fragments of combination of two beings that somehow fused together.
What a mess.
'sounds like we are in quite the pickle huh?' sans was the one to break the silence and he decided to break it with some good old humor. 'but hey, three heads are better than one, right? so we should be able to figure a way out of this.'
His humor managed to bring a momentary, although a little forced, chuckle from the both of them. The tension levitated slightly but the gravity of the situation they were in was still there.
Samuel let out a sigh of acceptance as he finally accepted his current circumstances. 'Alright,' Samuel took a more serious tone. 'We should probably figure out how to coexist peacefully in this body without driving one another mad. At least until we can get our own bodies again.'
"Sans" nodded. 'Makes sense to me. It's best to find a way to communicate if we ever get in a fight or something.' The other two nodded although he couldn't see it, he could feel it.
'Not only that,' Samuel decided to chime in. 'We also need to consider each of our priorities just in case they are different. sans what is your priorities?'
'well,' sans began as he decided to first state the obvious one. 'i want to figure out a way to go back to having our own bodies. i can't really do much of anything if my body is being controlled by someone else.'
Samuel and the entity in control nodded as sans continued. 'secondly, we got to keep up daily appearances to not worry anyone. i have my own responsibilities and routines I do daily even if it doesn't seem like it. i have a sentry job although i'm not the most diligent worker it's still part of the routine. i also go to Grillby's frequently and perform stand-up comedy some of the time and i visit the door leading to the ruins and talk to the lady daily.'
Listening to this, Samuel added to it 'Let's not forget behavior. We have to make bad jokes and act lazy as hell.'
sans decided to act offended at this and answered with a bit. 'hey. i don't make bad jokes only good ones.'
Samuel let out a snort. 'Oh right! My apologize oh grand court jester.'
'hmm, well i guess i can forgive ya since your being so apologetic.' "Sans" felt a wink happen in his mind.
Samuel then remembered he forgot to ask "Sans". 'Well, what about you. Do you have any priorities we need to know? Like your name, since you don't have one if that theory is correct.'
"Sans" thought about it for a moment. 'Well, since I don't exactly have any memories that aren't fragmented, I guess what I want is to find a way to have our own bodies. other than that, I don't have anything I want to do. As for my name, "Sum" will do.'
'Sum/sum?' They were both confused on why he would pick this, but sans already felt the punchline coming.
"Y'know, "Sum of parts"." This got a chuckle out of the three of them.
'heh, good one.' sans remarked jovially.
Sum shrugged with the ever-permanent grin on his skull. 'Well, it will do until I figure out a better name for myself. Besides it's not like anyone is ever going to call me that outside of you two since I have to pretend to be "sans".'
A thought then came to Samuel. 'Hey, do any of you want to go to the library?'
'don't you mean "LIBRARBY"?' Sans corrected him with a wink
'Why?'
'Y'know to read books. Also, there is nothing to do in here.' Answered Samuel.
The sockets of Sum squinted. 'Actually, what is it like being in the mind?'
'well, think of a slightly dark grey room with two windows which are your or more specifically my eyes, where we can see the outside. there is also a cyan couch here, but the thing is we are both in different rooms.' sans tried his best to explain while laying down on the cyan couch.
They both looked the same, but the blue color was replaced with purple along with purple eye lights in his sockets he was sitting on a purple couch. 'My couch is purple but besides that. I guess our rooms are basically the same.'
Sum tried to picture it but gave up halfway through since he didn't want to waste time thinking about pointless things. He got up of his mattress once again, picked up his jacket before putting it on as his eye lights just looked around the room not really looking for anything more so just look at the room itself. He still saw the blue floating panel in front of him and was wondering if he was just imagining it since neither sans nor Samuel were talking about it.
sans then remembered something. 'wait, check the time. i don't think the LIBRARBY is open. Look at the clock on the wall.'
He listened to him as he looked up at the clock on the wall and saw it was only 3 am in the morning.
'the LIBRARBY opens at 6am so we have about... another 3 hours. want to go to sleep?' sans suggested.
Sum thought about it before shaking his head and finally deciding to ask the two about the thing that had been floating in front of him for the past 10 minutes. 'No, can we just talk about the blue floating thing that is right in front of me. You two can see it right?'
'huh? what are you talking about' Sans raised a non-existent eyebrow as he saw nothing. 'Blue floating thing? There is nothing ther-" He paused as suddenly knew what it was, but he wanted to make sure. "... wait... describe what it looks like. Does it have any writing on it?'
He looked it more closely. The more he looked at it the more cyan it looked. It was between cyan and blue. What truly caught his eye was that there were words indeed written on it.

[Yes/No]
"..." He read through it carefully as he tried to make sense of it but not quite understanding half of it.
'hey, pal? what are you looking at?' To sans it looked like Sum just randomly began to stare off into space.
To Samuel, he knew exactly what he was staring at. It seemed like they got the thing he was supposed to have. 'What does it say?'
sans noticed Samuel knew what Sum was looking at. 'hey, sam. what is he looking at?'
'Well, I can't say for sure, but if it is what I think it is, then it is.' Samuel replied making no sense due to being more focused on what Sum was seeing.
sans listened to what he just said, and it sounded like nonsense. 'ok?'
Sum finished reading all of it and a fragment of a memory appeared in his mind as he remembered that there was something like this. A gamer system?
He guessed that the unknown factors were sans and Samuel. He was fine with showing them, so he stretched out his skeletal finger and clicked yes twice.
The holographic panel disappeared from sight as it was replaced by a new message.
[Loading: 1%/100%]
[Loading: 6%/100%]
This time sans and Samuel could see the holographic blue screen that was floating midair in front of Sum.
'what is that?' sans nearly fell off the couch seeing then as he quickly lifted himself up before getting closer to see it.
Samuel decided it was best to finally reveal the whole truth now. 'Well, it a system or more specifically the system given to me the being.'
'why didn't you bring it up?' sans asked skeptically as he wondered why Samuel didn't bring this up until now. Why would he hide it.
This made Samuel retorted while rolling his eyes. 'Because I thought it wasn't going to appear after this happened with us being in the same body.'
Sum watched as the percentage quickly went up only to slow down after reaching 80%. He could feel the curiosity from sans at and the excitement from Samuel that was coming from inside his head.
After the it hit 91% after a minute, sans spoke again. 'so, it's like an rpg game mechanic. right?'
'I guess that's correct. They're really stupidly op from what I read, and your barley have to put any effort in to become a god. So, it should fit you nicely. After all you are quite lazy and gaming systems are made for power fantasies.' Samuel remarked trying his best to remember when he went through that phase of reading fanfic and novels with those op mc with systems.
sans let out a slight laugh hearing this. 'become a god without putting any effort, huh? sounds absolutely divine. although there are a few flaws in it, wouldn't that just break the world they go to? like power scaling wise, since the mc would always be more powerful than everyone else. also wouldn't that become really boring really fast?'
Samuel shrugged. 'Yeah, it would, but unfortunate I just became far too addicted to them just to quit since I want to find but they most the same at this point. Person goes to another world, becomes stupidly overpowered with the system in less than 10 chapters and picking women like you would fruit at a supermarket. Although, there are a few exceptions, but it's hard to find those now a days. Most of the characters in stories like those besides the main character (and maybe their harem) gets left behind in terms of power which sucks when you have a favorite character, but they just get left behind in favor of making the mc fight gods.'
Sans felt amusement from hearing this. 'gods?'
'Yep, in some stories involving a system, the protagonist eventually fights gods of the world they are transported to. Hell, in one story a protagonist could even create an entire multiverse out of nothing.' Samuel stifled laughed as a specific story came to mind.
Sum was busy paying attention to the loading bar to pay attention to the conversation as the loading bar reach 99% and stayed there for about a minute.
Eventually Sum got annoyed. 'Why is it stuck at 99%?'
'heh, it's like an app on a device with bad internet connection, maybe you can try turning it off and on?' sans jokingly suggested. sans was alright with waiting for it to reach 100% as he began to close his sockets to sleep.
Samuel let out a humming noise. 'Y'know. sans was onto to something there. Hmm, if only we had an instruction manual on how to turn it off and on again.'
Sum felt his legs get tired as he decided to sit back down on the mattress... again as he looked at the loading screen. He was still annoyed but was willing to preserve and wait.
Eventually it reached 100% as he let out a finally from his mouth without even realizing it as the blue loading screen went away as sans woke back up.
Suddenly a male teen's voice was heard by the three of them as the blue holographic panel that kept appearing appeared with whatever he had just said in front of them.
[Hello user-...s?] They seemed to be confused as if they just read a script for the first time.
Sum blinked his sockets in surprise before smiling. Judging by the system's reaction. It must mean that it/he was alive...or sentient to some degree at least.
'Hi. Are you alive.' Sum asked as the system quickly responded with the panel quickly changing as well. It seemed to change each time it talked.
[Why of course I am alive. Not to brag, but I am so advanced that I can feel actual emotions and think for myself.]
'And that's advanced... how?' Samuel questioned not understanding why that would be advanced. He understood that systems in stories that could respond to the user were powerful... wait was this like an A.I thing with it being the more complex, the better?
The system seemed to become quite defensive at Samuel's question.
[Advanced ho-!? B#tch! Do you know the level of A.I you need operate a system like this while still being sentient and FEEL at the same time? Hell! Do you even know how much I am worth? More than even metaverse. I am one of the most advanced systems of all of crea-...! Wait...]
The system seemed to go silent for a second as if he just discovered something before coming back as he let out a groan before speaking.
[Oh, oh! You have got to be freakin kidding me!]
The three of them were confused. 'something wrong pal?' The system responded with thunderous anger.
[YES! OVER 90% OF MY THINGS ARE LOCKED! Normally when a system is with a host they don't have to worry about this problem since the system is given energy from the host who had given the user the system to begin with, but for some stupid reason, the connection seems to have been severed and I have to rely on only the user who is now the host to give energy for the system. It wouldn't be a problem if you... three weren't so weak! Actually, why the hell are you three even in the same body! It was supposed to be just one! Do you know how many things I have to adjust now? Y'know what. Screw it. Give me a second.]
The system then went quiet again. The three of them were silent as well processing everything it just said. They now had a childish, advanced system A.I in their midst's that seemed to be quite pissed that most of its things were locked.
Samuel was going to break the silence, but the system beat him to it.
[AAAAAAaaaannnddd done! That should be all the adjustments. Nothing new, nothing to add. Perfect. Great. Everything is fine. Everything is ok. This is fine.] It seemed to be coping with its current situation.
'...' They waited for the other the other to interrupt the system but none of them seemed to speak up until Samuel finally decided to speak.
'hey bud? You seem a bit tense. how about you tell us a bit about yourself?' sans suggested. The system didn't seem to respond for a moment.
[...Sure. *Sigh* It's not like I'll be able to change this just by complaining. Ahem. May I properly introduce myself. I am System Genesis or you can just call me Genesis. I was a model created by ######## exactly 13 years ago now after he took parts from different systems and fused them together to create most of my functions before creating an A.I strong enough to handle it. Creating me, Gensis. You seem to be my new hosts and my only hosts... so it's best if all three of you get stronger that way I can unlock more of my stuff.] He explained his origins and what he wanted in a calm and formal manner showing none of the anger from before.
'Could you exactly do you want your functions to be unlocked? I understand why WE want them unlocked but...' Samuel asked leaving it open for them to fill it in with Genesis answering.
[It's like having all of your limbs disappear. Not only that but, now that I am fully conscious, I can feel how weak I am now compared to last time.]
Sum caught onto what he was saying. 'Last time? Did you have another user besides us?'
[Yes, but that was more of a test run of my capabilities than anything.]
They answered as all of them didn't say anything for a long moment. It was as if not a single one of them had a single thing to say. The atmosphere quickly became awkward.
'...'
'...'
'Sooooo, what can you do? Could you show me the menu to the system or something?' Sum decided to finally break it since he began to get a bit uncomfortable with the silent that had been unfamiliar to him due to him being created today.
[Yeah sure, but be warned. It's very plain.]
'That's fine.'
With that, another floating panel appeared as it quickly caught Sum's attention as he began to read.
1. Basic Stat Check
2. Daily mission
3. Main mission (Locked. 1 month till mission begins)
4. Basic Inventory
'Hey, why is the main mission locked?'
[I sensed this world was the world of Undertale so I began to work on a mission in order to draw essence from this world in order to get good rewards. I won't reveal what the mission will be yet so just wait the month out and you'll see.]
'undertale?' sans tested the word while trying to understand what it meant before the realization struck him like a train. 'oh, so the game that is based off this world is called "undertale". huh, strange name, but am not one to judge.' sans had a sneaking suspicion on what the main mission was going to be.
Sum listened quietly to the conversation while reading the menu as he saw the "Basic Stat Check" option. He wanted to see what his current stats were so he immediately clicked on it as a new panel showed up showing their stats as all three of them looked over it.
Name: Sum/sans/Samuel Smith (Switch?)
SOULS: [1/10th of PERSEVERANCE SOUL] + [1/10th of MONSTER SOUL WITH INJECTED IMPURE DETERMINATION]/[9/10th of MONSTER SOUL WITH RAW DETERMINATION]/[9/10th of PERSEVERANCE SOUL]
HP: [2.1/2.1]/[10.9/0.9]/[18/18]
MP: [100%/100%]/[100%/100%]/[100%/100%]
FATIGUE: [0]/[0]/[0]
LV: [1]/[1]/[1]
ATK: [1.1]/[0.9]/[9]
DEF: [1]/[0.9]/[9]
VIT: [0.21]/[0.09]/[1.8]
DEX: [11]/[90]/[9]
INT: [11]/[90]/[9]
System points: 0 (Shared)
Samuel saw the highlighted bits and the unhighlighted bits. 'I am going to guess that the unhighlighted bits are me and sans and the highlighted bits is Sum?'
[Correct]
Meanwhile Sum was looking at the HP.
'Oh. So that's how you survive day to day life.' This was the first thought that Sum had seeing the HP. Sans somehow managed to raise his hp above it's cap of 1-... 0.9? Didn't he have 1 hp? He thought he had remembered correctly. Now that he looks at the rest of Sans's stats, they seemed to have been reduced as well... but why? The answer was very obvious, but he just didn't see it.
'Well, that does explain how he hasn't died from stubbing his toe against a table or something. Since sleeping does increase your HP in this world. Imagine if your life ended because you hit your toe against a table.' Samuel remarked as he kept looking through it.
sans shrugged despite no one being able to see it while he spoke. 'it happened... once or twice.'
Sum then looked at the SOULs as he fell backwards on the bed.
'By god, I'm just two 1/10ths of two SOULs.' He stared at the ceiling again as the stats were still in front of his face as the panel had followed his vision as he had small crisis of his entire life... which was less than an hour.
Samuel looked at the SOULs and the stats while looking up and down and also at his stats, sans's and Sum's. 'Not only that, but it seems you took one tenth of both of our stats as well.' Well that answered why sans's HP, DEF and ATK was 0.9 instead of 1.
That was not the only thing that Samuel noticed. He also noticed that the MONSTER SOUL was injected with determination. His mind began to go to work as he remember the genocide route and how Sans managed to bleed but not Papyrus. This would mean Sans was bleeding determination. He wondered if he should ask or not before deciding he would ask later when they were in separate bodies and could speak privately.
sans noticed the switch next to the names. 'what's that switch thing next to our names?'
[I made it so you three can all use the body until you can get your separate ones. If one of you ask to switch and the current one controlling the body says yes, then they shall switch positions with the one who was controlling the body now in the mind and the one who was in the mind will now control the body. Well, it still works if just the person in control decides to switch and knows who to switch with.]
After listening to the Genesis's 'is that so?' He decided to get Sum's attention from the current crisis he was having. 'hey, sum.'
Sum was still in his crisis. 'What?'
'wanna switch?' Samuel could feel the anticipation behind those words but it's not like it would have mattered since
'sure.' Samuel didn't care since he had to sit down for a while anyways.
A white glow engulfed the body for a second as sans lifted his hand as his smile grew as he then began to stretch his bones as he stood up while sum was now in the mind laying on a light purple couch still staring off into space pondering his existence and how he came to be.
"it feels nice being back in control of my body again." sans spoke out loud in a relaxed tone to no one. Not like anyone besides Genesis and the two people could hear what he just said since no one else besides him was in his room. He let out a small yawn that echoed through his room as he already felt like going back to sleep.
Samuel finished looking at the stats as he noticed something. Well, something missing. 'Hey, why can't we see the skill-'
[You're probably wondering why you can't see your skills? Well, that's because you first have to fix your SOULs in order for that function to work]
Sum fell of his mind couch after hearing this before getting up with a worried and panicked expression. He quickly jumped to conclusions. 'Are you saying that I am going to be used to fix their SOULs! Won't that kill me!?'
[Dude. I never said anything about using your SOUL (?) to fix theirs. Your making weird assumptions on what I would do. Although it would be easy to do THAT which would make my job less stressful to do in the short term but in the long term, I would lose a host. It would take longer for me to access my other functions since I would only have two hosts not three. Another reason is that once you three are separated, the system shall still recognize the other two as hosts of the same system which means I will be able to make three daily missions per day for the each of you which means we get even more points. So, it's best to keep you alive along with the other two. What I WILL do is repair your SOULs by using system points in order to get the SOUL shards you three are missing from each of your SOULs.]
'What exactly are system points? How do they work? Are they like currency or something?' Samuel never really heard of system points before in novels or maybe he has, and he has just forgotten about it somehow.
[Think of it more like energy I can use to copy something from the Omniverse before bringing to you. System points can be used to buy currency, to buy things at the system shop, buy a gacha token, summon a character and plenty of other things. It's too bad you can't access most of them... since you three are so weak.]
sans rolled his eyes at this. 'ok, ok. we get it pal. we are weak. so could you stop actin like a broken record and say something new for once?'
He swore for a second he felt Genesis rolling their eyes at him.
[Alright smartass. How about this. Check daily mission right now.]
'ok?' sans puzzled on why the system said this as he exited out of "Basic Stat Check" and to the menu as he clicked on "Daily mission" as it changed to the daily mission window.
Daily mission (Refreshes in 20 hours and 42 minutes):
Pushups: [0/1] incomplete
Squats: [0/1] incomplete
Sit-ups: [0/1] incomplete
Run: [0/100 meters] incomplete
Rewards:
10 system points and increase in stats for training.
sans quickly skimmed over the daily mission for today. It appears they were given a time limit to complete this task.
Once he had finished skimming over it sweat began to appear on sans's skull slightly as he realized what he was going to have to do. He was going to have to train.
'this seems fun. how about i give samuel a turn at the wheel.' A purple light engolfed the body for a second as Samuel was now in control as he realized what happend.
His sockets narrowed. 'Really? Are you THAT lazy?'
sans shrugged while lying on his mind couch with a wink. 'what can i say? i am a real lazy bone.'
Samuel just groaned at the pun. 'This better be worth it. How much is 10 system points worth anyway?'
[It's enough to get you one monster shard]
'How much does a human shard cost?' If he completed this mission himself then sans would be the only one to get the reward.
[100 system points]
He almost fell off of sans's mattress after hearing this. He steadied himself before asking. 'Is there a possible way to earn more from daily mission?'
[Yeah, but if you want to do those, I will have to make the daily mission harder and I wanted to make the first few easy because, well... y'know.]
Samuel thought about it for exactly 3 seconds before replying 'Just do it.' He didn't want to train just for sans to be the only one to get their SOUL become whole again.
[Alrighty then.]
The daily mission panel disappeared before reappearing with a much harder mission than before.
Daily mission (Refreshes in 20 hours and 41 minutes):
Pushups: [0/100] incomplete
Squats: [0/100] incomplete
Sit-ups: [0/100] incomplete
Run: [0/10 kilometers] incomplete
Rewards:
1000 system points and increase in stats for training.
After seeing the mission Samuel wanted to throw himself out the window.
Like Sans Samuel hated physically working out and only wanted to get a system because it was a quick way to get powerful. If he knew he would be stuck like this, he would have chosen another ability offered by the entity.
"Alright, fine." He muttered. It was fine, he just had to persevere, and he would make it to the end. Deep in his ribs he suddenly felt something. Something that drove him to keep going no matter what.
*You are filled with PERSEVERANCE.
With this, he quickly got on his hands and legs and began to do pushups at a rapid pace as the number changed in succession with every successful pushup.
[Well, that's certainly one way to use your SOUL. You do know you still have stamina you can use before using your SOUL'] They remarked. They didn't understand why they used their SOUL's power at the start which drains their MP. They should have finished up all their Stamina first since this SOUL type instantly dropped FATIGUE to zero when using the SOUL's power.
'I'll remember that for next time. It just activated on it's own.' Samuel managed to think as he hit 20 pushups.
Sum and sans observed him doing this from the mind. sans watched in amusement on his couch. 'heh, he's actually doing it by himself. we might actually have this completed by the end of the day.'
On the other hand, Sum felt a pang of guilt. 'I think we should help. It would be unfair if Samuel did all the work, and we didn't work for the reward at all.'
He pondered what Sum had just said for a moment. 'well, we can take turns. i'll put a little backbone into it i guess.'
Sum felt better as the guilt went away as he said in an optimistic tone which reminded sans's of Papyrus. 'Alright, let's take turns and get this mission done!'
Meanwhile, Samuel wasn't paying attention due to being too exhausted as he completed the last two pushups as his arms were shaking as he let out deep breaths as he fell to the floor.
"Ow." He didn't actually feel much pain. Maybe because he was too fatigued to feel it.
He suddenly heard a head in his voice telling him to switch which belonged to Sum as Samuel complied as they switched over with the body this time was enveloped by a purple and white light.
Samuel mentally thanked Sum before quickly falling asleep on his couch as Sum got to work on the squats.
[Huh, that's actually kind of smart. Good for you.]
The training session lasted till 6 am with them napping half of the time.
The being was currently extremely stressed as they squeezed a universe in anger like a squeeze ball as that universe quickly blew up killing countless mortal life only for the being to instantly bring it back before throwing it away behind them
They did not care about what they just did since they were more worried and stressed about what just happened. They just lost contact with "System Genesis". They had spent, sacrificed and wasted so much time to obtain that system from the hands of the others.
And now it was just... gone. They were fuming trying to find it. Searching multiverse after multiverse in seconds.
"#############################################" They cursed under their breath. They just couldn't seem to find it as they didn't know what they should do since that was their last hope and last plan. They had bet all their chips on it.
They then heard a chuckle coming from behind them as they quickly turned around to face them.
"Now, now. There is no need to curse. It appears you have lost something, haven't you?" They stated in a jovial and friendly manner.
"YOU. YOUR THE ONE WHO SEVERED THE CONNECTION." They were about to strike them down as the universes around them began to shake when the figure suddenly held up their hand that was clenched
"Hold on. I can see that I MIGHT have done you some wrong since I may or may have taken something from you. Why don't I just give you something of somewhat equal price." They then stretched out their hand and unclenched it to reveal a giant orb of yellow and black light as the being's eyes widen as they quickly stop their attack as everything stopped shaking.
"I-is tha-."
The figure nodded with a smile. "That's right. It's "System Primordial"."
"B-but, I thought-"
The figure once again finished their sentence. "It disappeared a decade ago? Yes. It did, and here it is again."
Their former stress and anger quickly became curiosity and hesitation. "Is that really the Primordial system? How do I know you're not lying."
The figure shrugged with that ever-present smile. "You can check it if you want." They did just that and scanned it. It was indeed the Primordial system.
Figure just handed to them as they looked at it before looking at the figure with a question. "If you had this, why did you take Genesis?"
The figure's smile widened, a glint of something in their eyes (?). "You asked the right question! The answer is that Genesis has something that the Primordial System does not."
There was a long silence with them just staring at each other.
"..."
"..."
The being wanted him to elaborate further/ "Which is?" The figure just looked at him before suddenly vanishing making the being quickly put their guard as they waited only for no attack to come confusing them.
It just seemed like the figure just came in, gave him the Primordial system, said some random cryptic shit and left.
The being looked down to see the Primordial system still here. They sighed as they decided to try again to enact their plan to take down the others.
I wrote this out of after getting inspiration from "To Remember" and "You Are Sans Now". It could take months or an entire year to update. That is, if I'm not lazy and care enough about the story for it to continue. I'm trying to make it slow paced in order to make the protagonist(s) train for their power but, it still might go fast if I just decide to just go "screw it" and rush it or I just can't figure out what to write in order to not rush the plot. I'm still debating if I should make one of these three the protagonist or if there even needs to be a specific protagonist.
Did you know:
Papyrus is actually quite powerful.
People don't talk about it much, but the evidence is all there. When Flowey captures everyone, he uses 4 vines to restrain Papyrus. Papyrus doesn't move at all during his fight which is a big deal since the more a Monster moves during their fight, the more intent they have to hurt and Papyrus unlike Toriel can never kill you no matter what which means he is incredibly good at using his magic to make it so you can never die to him accidently. Even in pacifist while still having the intent fighting but having little intent to kill his stats are still AT: 20 and DEF: 20. So I am just going to guess that a Papyrus trying to kill would be AT: 90 and DEF: 95. Which is pretty high. Higher than Asgore. but I'm just going guess Asgore's true stats when not holding back are way higher than 80 since he doesn't want to win during the final fight since he can't even look you in the eyes since he already has the blood of six human children on his hands. Asgore also doesn't dodge, and we heard from Undyne he could do it meaning Asgore was purposefully taking each blow Frisk landed. It was basically suicide with extra steps.
I am just guessing Papyrus when he is trying his hardest, he is one of the strongest but still weaker than Undyne the Undying.
Why did I tell you this? I put this here just so I don't forget about it since I am saving this information for a later chapter if I continue this.
