Chapter 4: Tai Lung's Escape
Lana's POV:
I had a hard time sleeping tonight. I kept tossing and turning in my bed. I couldn't stop thinking about what the Furious Five and Tigress were saying about me. Why did Tigress hate me so much? I get that it's upsetting by not being chosen as the Dragon Warrior, but you shouldn't hate someone for that. It was getting so stressful that Po and I decided to take a walk to clear our minds.
When we spotted a peach tree at the edge of the cliff, Po began snacking on some peaches while I just stared into the sky.
"I see you two have found the Sacred Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom." A voice said from behind us. Po and I were startled. We turned around to see Master Oogway standing before us. Oogway smiled at us. Po had a mouthful of peaches. Po looked embarrassed.
"Is that what this is? Sorry, I thought it was just a regular peach tree." Po said. Po spits out a peach when he says that.
"Hey, Master Oogway," I said.
"I understand. You eat when you are upset." Oogway said.
"Upset? I'm not upset. What makes you think I'm upset?" Po said.
"So, why are you upset?" Oogway asked.
Po sighed. "I probably sucked more today than anyone in the history of kung fu. In the history of China. In the history of sucking!" Po shouted.
"Yeah, and Tigress really hates me for some reason," I said.
"Probably," Oogway said.
"And the Five! Man, you should have seen them! They totally hate me and Lana." Po said.
"Totally," Oogway said.
"How is Shifu going to turn me into the Dragon Warrior? I mean, I'm not like the Five. I've got no claws, no wings, no venom. Even Mantis has those things." Po said. Po sighed before continuing. "Maybe I should just quit and go back to making noodles."
"Same. It's clear that I am not fit to be the Dragon Warrior. Shifu said so himself." I said. Oogway looked at us sadly.
"Quit. Don't quit. Noodles. Don't noodles. You two are too concerned with what was and what will be. There's a saying. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." Oogway said. When Oogway walked away, he hit the tree, making a peach fall. Po caught the peach with his hand. I looked at Oogway with curiosity. Why did he choose me and Po to be the Dragon Warriors? What was I destined for?
"Dad? Do you think Shifu is going to be able to turn us into the Dragon Warriors?" I asked.
"I don't know. But I hope he will be able to." Po said.
"I want to prove myself to the Furious Five and Shifu," I said. Po placed a paw on my shoulder.
"I'll tell you what. Tomorrow, we can train together. Just you and I." Po said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Of course. You're my daughter. I'd do anything for you." Po said. I smiled and hugged Po tightly.
"Thank you so much, Dad. I love you." I said.
"You're welcome, honey. I love you too." Po said, hugging me back. As Po held me in his arms, I realized how lucky I was to have him as a dad.
At Chorh-Gom Prison, no POV:
Zeng flew fast to the prison. Tai Lung was escaping, and there was little time to warn everyone. When Zeng arrived at the prison, he was greeted by the guards, but not with a warm welcome. The guards glared at Zeng.
"Wait! Wait, wait, wait! I bring a message..." Zeng said frantically. "From Master Shifu."
The leader of the guards, Vachir received the message, but he was not too happy with the news. "What? Double the guards? Extra precautions? Your prison may not be adequate?" Vachir said angrily. He leaned in on Zeng, with the other guards surrounding him. Zeng backed away nervously.
"You doubt my prison security?" Vachir shouted.
"Absolutely not. Shifu does. I'm just the messenger." Zeng said nervously.
"I'll give you a message for your Master Shifu. Escape from Chorh-Gom Prison is impossible!" Vachir shouted. He hit Zeng to intimidate him. He laughed. "Impressive, isn't it?"
"It's very impressive," Zang said through shaky breaths.
"One way in, one way out. One thousand guards and one prisoner." Vachir explained. They walked deeper into the dark and eerie prison.
"Yes, except that prisoner is Tai Lung," Zeng said. The two kept walking until they reached an elevator platform.
"Take us down," Vachir ordered. The platform lowered, going deeper and deeper inside the prison.
"What are you doing?" Zang asked nervously. Vachir ignored his question and just laughed. Zang and Vachir kept going down until they reached the bottom. Zeng looked around nervously. "Oh my." He said. When Vachir opened the door, they stood in front of the most dangerous animal in all of China. Tai Lung. Tai Lung was a big snow leopard. Tai Lung had heavy chains around his body, holding him down. There was a shell on his back that kept him in place.
"Behold Tai Lung," Vachir said. Zeng looked at him with wide eyes. It was obvious he was terrified of Tai Lung. Zeng backed away nervously.
"I'm just gonna wait right here," Zeng said.
"It's nothing to worry about. It's perfectly safe." Vachir assured him. Vachir pushed Zeng forward. Zeng was forced to walk toward the dangerous prisoner. "Crossbows! At the ready!" Vachir ordered. Everyone got their crossbows ready in case Tai Lung tried to escape.
"Crossbows?" Zeng said. Vachir walked up to Tai Lung and began mocking him.
"Hey, tough guy, did you hear? Oogway's giving someone the Dragon Scroll, and it's not gonna be you." Vachir said.
"Don't get him mad!" Zeng cried.
"What's he gonna do about it? I've got him completely immobilized. Zeng flinched when Vachir stepped on Tai Lung's tail. Did I step on the wittle kittie's tail?"
"I'm good, I've seen enough," Zeng said, backing away again. "I'll tell Shifu he has nothing to worry about."
"No, he doesn't," Vachir said. They started walking away from Tai Lung.
"Can we please go now?" Zeng asked nervously. Vachir didn't say anything as they began walking out of the prison.
Tai Lung's POV:
I growled when the feather landed in front of me. How dare they mock me? I figured that now would be a good time to escape since Shifu had given the Dragon Scroll to someone else. I put the feather on top of the shell and twitched it around with my tail to unlock the restraint on my back. I could feel the restraints loosen on my back. I sharpened my claws. I was finally free from the restraints on my back.
"Oh no!" Vachir shouted when he saw me escaping.
"What's happening!?" Zeng cried.
"To your battle stations! Go! Go! Go!" As Vachir gave his orders to the guards, I realized I didn't have much time to make my escape, so I had to do this quickly. I stood up, giving out a loud roar in anger.
"Fire crossbows! Fire!" Vachir yelled. While they fired the crossbows, I moved the chains from my hands towards the arrow. The arrow sliced through the chains, freeing my left arm. I used another arrow to cut my right arm free from the chains.
"Tai Lung is free! I must warn Shifu!" Zeng cried. Vachir grabbed Zeng by his throat.
"You're not going anywhere! Neither is he!" Vachir shouted.
We'll see about that I thought.
"Let go of me!" Zeng yelled.
"Bring it up!" Vachir ordered. They started bringing up the elevator platform to prevent me from escaping. But I had other plans.
"Wait! Bring it back!" Vachir shouted when they realized they were stuck on the bottom floor with me. They fired another arrow at me, but I blocked it with my fist, firing it back at them. I shot the arrows that lay next to me on the wall to make a staircase for myself. I jumped on the arrow next to me to launch myself on the makeshift staircase I made for myself. I leaped from arrow to arrow.
"He's coming this way!" Zeng cried.
"He won't get far. Archers!" Vachir shouted. The other guards launched their mini arrows at me. I launched myself from the arrow I was standing on toward the hundreds of mini arrows that were coming towards me. They cut the elevator platform, but I outsmarted them. I punched the guards out of my way. I had now made it to flat surfaces.
I grabbed one of the chains and swung myself around to get to higher ground. Once I landed on higher ground, I began fighting the guards that were surrounding the area. I swung some more kicks at oncoming guards coming my way. I broke one of their weapons, pushing one into the other group, and making them fall backward. I climbed up the walls and broke down the door that reached one of the top floors of the prison.
I continued fighting my way through the guards. I stole one of their weapons and began hitting them with it. I punched one of them back with the weapon. Once I reached the exit, I growled when I saw the guards surrounding the door. The leader smirked at me. I roared at him. Zeng gulped nervously. I could tell he was afraid. He should be.
"We're dead. So very very dead." Zeng whimpered. Vachir just laughed.
"Not yet, we're not! Now!" He yelled. He shot one of the arrows, causing a big explosion. I looked up to see that the rocks began to fall down. The bridge was breaking as the rocks were making an impact. I leaped up, dodging the falling rocks. The bridge began to crumble beneath me. I attempted to jump onto the surface, but I fell. I caught myself on one of the rocks that were falling.
I climbed up from rock to rock until I reached one of the dynamites. I grabbed the dynamites and threw them towards the guards.
"Can we run now?" Zeng asked nervously.
"Yes," Vachir said when he realized he was in danger too. When the dynamite landed on the ground, there was a big explosion, causing the front entrance to explode. The guards to fall off the cliff. Zeng landed hard on the ground. When I got outside, I picked up Zeng who was shaking violently. I held him in a tight grip. I held him close to my face. I smirked.
"I'm glad Shifu sent you," I said as I stroked his feathers. "I was beginning to think I'd been forgotten."
I leaned closer to him. "Fly back there and tell them the real Dragon Warrior is coming home," I said. Zeng nodded nervously. I tossed him into the sky and he flew off into the night.
I can't wait to go back home and get what is rightfully mine. Oogway has always said that my sister, Lana was the rightful Dragon Warrior when we were growing up together. How very wrong Oogway is. I am the rightful Dragon Warrior. And I will get revenge on you, Lana for stealing what is mine.
