The Moon's Flame Chapter 01

Running, that was all that it was, that was all that she could do.

They were fools to think that they were as strong as him. As that monster. It was just ego and wounded pride that led them to face him again, after the humiliating defeat and nearly death that they faced nearly four hundred years ago.

They were stronger than him, they said to themself. They were called the Five Dragon Gods of Guiltina for centuries. And he was just the king of dragons, an ex-human who hadn't been seen for many, many years. There was no reason to fear him anymore.

But they were wrong.

While she escapes across the forest she can't help but remember how she has gotten here.

When he came to the continent, they all felt him. His magic power resonated in all the land. Those without magic only felt a chill in the air. But to those with it… It was like their very bones trembled. For dragons and magicians alike.

Old traumas awoke in the five of them. Even Aldoron, the sleeper Wood Dragon, woke up from the nightmares he had caused with his mere presence. But even so, they decided to ignore them. Decided to confront him. Him, Acnologia, the Dragon of Magic.

And so the slaughter began once more.

The first to battle him was Ignia, also known as the Fire Dragon God and the son of the Fire Dragon King Igneel. He wanted to prove himself, prove to all, that he was better than his father— the only dragon that could match Acnologia's might, even if he still lost in the end. And what better way to do it than killing the one who had defeated him?

He arrived in front of Acnologia, confident in his strength, confident that he could win, that he had finally surpassed him. He was the past and Ignia would be the future. Beautiful lies he had told himself.

But, in the end, he had to face reality.

He gave a good fight, for the first few minutes, until Acnologia got tired of playing with him. While they were both in the air, he punched Ignia in the face, sending him to the ground. The dragon god went down spiraling until he crashed on the field. Dizzy and shaky, he could do nothing but watch helplessly as Agnologia breathed deeply and launched a Dragon's Roar.

The attack of the Dragon King hit true, annihilating Ignia completely. The last thought of the dragon god was how foolish he was, thinking himself stronger than that monster.

One down. Four to go.

After him, it was the turn of Aldoron and Viernes, the Wood and Gold Dragons Gods. They had seen the battle between Agnologia and his fellow dragon god from a distance. They thought themself more cautious, more astute.

They decided to wait and see how the battle unfolded itself. And strike whoever wins. If Agnologia won, he would be tired and wounded, easy prey for the two dragons and they would finally have their revenge for the humiliations that they suffered at the hands of that human.

If by chance Ignia won, he too would be in no condition to keep fighting, and then he would fall at the hands of the duo. That way, they would be able to split his territory between the two of them.

It was a good plan. A smart plan. But in the end, it proved to be fruitless.

They couldn't believe what they were seeing. While they had no love for Ignia, none could dispute his power. In terms of simple destructive power, his magic was the greatest of all the Dragon Gods. But compared to Agnologia, his power was like an ant to an elephant. Completely pointless.

After Agnologia ended with Ignia, he turned around to face the other two dragons. With no other choice, they too charged at the King. But just like Ignia, all their efforts were in vain.

First was Aldoron, the Wood Dragon. He was the biggest and most wounded of the duo. He was an easy target. While Agnologia was in the air he unleashed his Eternal Flare, casting starry lights in the sky which rained down in a massive radius with a destructive force capable of destroying a country all on itself.

Aldoron tried to defend himself against the attack, but he ended up as a mere victim of it. Because even if he was the largest and biggest dragon ever to live, as big as a small country, that attack was created precisely to level countries.

He never stood a chance.

Ray of lights hit Aldoron in every part of his body, causing massive damage to him. Aldoron's screams could be heard from miles away. He laid down, too tired and wounded to move.

When Agnologia was about to finish him off, Viernes intervened. He swung at his enemy with his tail in the back with all his strength, interrupting his breath attack and diverting it.

Agnologia was sent flying away, but not too far, and then turned around and charged head-on at the Gold Dragon. Seeing this, Vienes did the same, thinking that with his golden scales, he would be able to endure and surpass the Dragon King's attack.

Both dragons meet midair and collide with each other. The result was obvious. The Dragon God lost. His body was torn apart by the assault of Agnologia. Mortally wounded, he fell to the earth, near the beaten Wood Dragon.

They were both on their last leg, but Agnologia decided to not take any chances. He fired another Dragon's Roar and, in the same way as Ignia, another two Dragon Gods perished.

Three down. Two to go.

While all of this was happening, Selene – the Moon Dragon God – watched this happen from another realm through a portal. She was shocked and scared at what she was seeing. Three of the five dragon gods had died. But the worst part was how easily that monster finished with them. It was not even a battle; it was a massacre.

Eyeing the winner of the confrontation, she told herself that all would be alright. That even if she couldn't beat him, she could just stay here, in a world far away from that monster. That she would be safe.

But it was just another lie.

While she was looking at him departing from the battlefield, he suddenly stopped moving. Then, he raised his head and smelled the air, as if looking for something. Selene wondered what he was sensing. Maybe Mercphobia, the Water Dragon God has arrived at the battle?

As she was having these thoughts, the Dragon of Magic looked up and somehow, he met Selene's gaze through the portal where she was gazed. How he knew where her vantage point was anyone's guess.

Selene couldn't believe it. The portal she was using was for mere observation; it was invisible and only allowed a one-sided view! It should not be possible but it was happening right in front of her. She watched as Acnologia smirked at her and, letting out a roar, he flew straight at the portal.

Selene tried to close the portal but it was too late. Acnologia clashed with the portal and started to break it, trying to get through it.

Selene only had a few seconds to open another portal to Guiltina before he entered the world where she was residing. Just as Acnologia entered the world, she managed to escape and close the other portal, trapping him in there. But she knew that he would escape, and when he did, he would find her and kill her.

With the time that she had, she decided to gather allies to defeat him.

First, she went to see Mercphobia, the Water Dragon God. He was a calm and peaceful dragon who lived in harmony with the people of the town where he ruled. He has even rescued a little girl called Karameel, who had been shipwrecked in his seas.

At first, Mercphobia confronted her, thinking that she was here to attack him. However, after hearing the reason to look for him, he decided to help her.

Still, he said that based on the encounter the other Dragon Gods had with Acnologia, the two of them would not be enough.

She agreed with him, which is why the two of them decided to go to a famous guild in the continent, Diabolos. It was rumored that it was a guild entirely made of dragon slayers.

It was risky for two dragons to go to this type of guild but they didn't have a choice. Besides, it was not as if Acnologia would spare them once he had finished with the two dragons. And once he has killed then he would probably kill the dragon slayer too. To him, they were all dragons.

So to that end, the two of them took human form and went to this guild.

Negotiation with this guild was difficult, but not impossible. The guild master, Georg Reizen, was an unreasonable, stupid, and arrogant man. He didn't listen to a single word they told him and tried to attack them and kill them.

Selene, without wasting a second, transformed into her dragon form and killed him. For someone who claimed to have killed and eaten hundreds of dragons, he broke easily.

After that, the negotiations went much smoother. She explained the situation to the rest of the guild and asked for their help. While they were not happy to work for the woman who killed their former master, they too agreed that Acnologia was the more pressing treat. So, after making clear to Selene and Mercphobia that after Acnologia was dead the two of them were next, the new alliance of dragons and humans was formed to combat and kill Acnologia.

Two days later, the monster broke through the barrier that separated the two worlds and came to the same battlefield where he had killed the other three Dragon Gods.

The alliance of dragons and humans was waiting for him, thanks to Selene having calculated where and when he would appear.

At first, the battle seemed to be going well. Knowing exactly where he would appear allowed them to attack all at the same time. Their attack hit true; the dragon slayers let loose their more powerful magics and the two dragons did the same with their roars.

Acnologia received all those attacks without the chance to defend himself. He took great damage because of them. The King of Dragons, for the first time since his battle with Igneel, fell to the earth, covering the ground with a tide of dust and dirt.

It was a glorious sight.

They could do it; they could actually do it! That was the thoughts of all of them. That was their hope

But it was not meant to be.

With a simple flap of his wings, Acnologia cleared the field and they could see the damage they did to him with their most powerful attacks.

Scratches and bruises. After all of that, the only marks on his body were merely scratches and bruises.

And then the monster retaliated.

With a swing of his tail, he killed several of the humans that were aiding us. Some of the Mages tried to put on a defense, but it was all in vain.

Mercphobia tried to help them, attacking the black dragon with another roar but it was ineffective.

Acnologia swapped the attack like it was a fly and then set his eyes on the Water Dragon.

Seeing that magic was useless, he attacked him with his tail, trying to hit him in the head with it. But Acnologia caught his tail and pulled it, drawing Mercphobia toward him. Mercphobia tried to get himself free, but it was impossible, and he ended up getting grabbed on the neck by his enemy and bringed face to face with Acnologia.

Acnologia looked the other dragon in the eyes and roared in the other's face. He prepared himself to let loose a breath attack to finish him off when he was interrupted by Selene.

The Moon Dragon entered through one portal and exited through another just above her opponent, catching him by surprise. Acnologia was forced to let go of Mercphobia's neck and, for the second time that day, clashed in the ground.

He fell on his back with Selene on top of him. Once on the ground the two looked at each other in the eyes and roared at one another.

Selene tried to skewer him with her tail but he got her off him with his superior physical strength.

Once free of Selene, he started to attack her with his claws. She tried to defend herself but it was futile. He was just too fast, too strong, and too vicious.

The few mages still alive tried to help her but it was in vain. With a few tail flicks, they were all dead.

She was bleeding deeply from several places and with a final punch, he sent her away into the ground. Exhausted, she could barely move and the only thing that she could do was watch as the monster finished her off.

Mercphobia participated again in the fight against the Dragon King, but he didn't make any difference. He rapidly subdued him with a Breath attack, splitting his body in the middle.

After that, Acnologia rose in the air and prepared himself for his final attack. He started using Eternal Flare, a wide-range attack designed to destroy both Dragons and any Dragon Slayers that had hidden during the battle.

Sensing the end and with no way of recovering himself, Mercphobia managed to drag himself close to Selene and, with great effort, he gave the rest of his energy to her. It wasn't much but it would allow her to escape this place and, with a little luck, after his attack, Acnologia would think that she perished here and that there were no remains left.

Feeling the energy enter her body, Selene opened her eyes wide and looked at the resigned face of the other Dragon God. Understanding his intention and sensing Acnologia launch his final attack, she gave one final look at Mercphobia before opening a portal and entering through it.

The last thing Mercphobia saw before he died was his partner leaving through a portal before everything went dark.

Selene passed through the portal and landed in a forest. Even with the energy given to her by Mercphobia, she was too tired and hurt to travel to another world. So she did the next best thing and traveled to another continent. The problem was that she didn't have a clue which continent she was on.

Sensing humans nearby, she decided that it was better to blend in. Using the last of her energy, she transformed into her human form.

After that, she looked for a place to hide and to think about her next move. With a little bit of luck, Acnologia would think she was dead, and he wouldn't be looking for her. That gave her time. Time to decide on a strategy, a plan, or something to survive. She didn't think that he had had enough. Once he killed the last dragon in Guiltina, he would destroy the next place where he sensed dragons. And the next and the next until he destroys the whole world.

With the little strength she had left, she began to walk through the forest.

She walked for a couple of hours until she felt it. The energy of a dragon. And not just any dragon but Igneel, the Fire Dragon King.

She couldn't believe her luck, the only dragon capable of facing Acnologia was in her vicinity! She thought that he was dead, that Acnologia had killed him. But he was alive!

He would help her; she knew he would. Igneel was a kind dragon, and while they hadn't been best friends or anything of the sort, and it's been four hundred years, she knew that he wouldn't turn his back on her. After all, she like him didn't have anything against humans, and he knew it.

She arrived at a small run-down house with a messy roof, having trees growing on it and a chimney pot protruding from it. It was adorned by what looked like a pair of bovine skulls, with the smaller one being placed over the door, and the larger one on the left side of the hall's roof.

In four words, it was a mess, but beggars can't be chosen. Besides, what was important was not the house but its inhabitant.

She opened the door and saw that the interior was as bad or worse than the exterior. The entry hall was extremely messy and untidy. A small, rectangular table placed almost in the center of the room was covered with dirty dishes, plates, and pots. Flanking the table was a pair of sofas, with a large chest of drawers resting diagonally over one of the two, with its drawers being half open and messy. Not far from them was the stove, covered in soot and untidy. The function of the bed was assumed by a patched-up hammock with a pillow and a torn blanket, with one edge attached to the ceiling and the other to the tree which was seen protruding out from the roof; the tree sprouted from the ground inside the house, breaking through the wood floor and deforming it.

Igneel must have been hit on the head too many times by Acnologia, to be able to bear living in this mess. But, oh well.

She was tired and bleeding, and there was some kind of bed there, so she would rest for a couple of hours while Igneel was away. When he returned, she would talk to him.

She disrobed herself, climbed up on the hammock, closed her eyes, and let Morpheo take her away.

A couple of hours later, in front of the house, one could see two forms passing through the door.

The taller of them was a lean, muscular young man of average height with a slightly tan skin tone, black eyes, spiky pink-colored hair, and abnormally sharp canines. He wore an outfit consisting of a sleeveless, gold-trimmed, black waistcoat. An open and untucked, black cloth around his waist that reached his knees, held by a leather brown belt with an oval-shaped silver buckle. White knee-length trousers with black ribbon ties, a thick black wristband on his left wrist, black open-toed sandals, and a scale-patterned scarf. He had a red, guild mark on his right shoulder.

His name was Natsu Dragneel, the Fire Dragon Slayer.

The other was a small, blue cat with a white stomach, a rectangular head. He had pink ears, big black eyes with small, thin eyebrows, and light blue cheek marks near his tiny whiskers. He also had a green Guild Mark on his back.

His name was Happy, Natsu's partner and friend.

The two of them had just returned from a rescue mission. Along with their new guildmate, Lucy, they went to Mount Hakobe to save their friend, Macao, who had gone missing for almost a week.

It was a difficult job but they were able to do it. And now they just want to eat and sleep.

When they entered the house, they noticed that there was something different. An outfit of female clothing was on the floor and they noticed that the hammock was occupied.

In the house just lived the two of them, so they knew that whoever that was, it had to be an intruder.

The two of them began slowly getting close to surprise the intruder when they reached the hammock, and saw who was sleeping in their bed.

It was a woman. A naked woman to be exact.

Seeing this, Natsu, with all the delicacy that is due to a lady, said.

"Who the hell are you, blondy?!"

Hope you like it.
