47. AN: Site Shutdown Warning

Readers long-time and new.

As of late, I've heard distressing rumors that FanFiction dot Net is on the verge of shutdown. Maybe they're just-that, rumors, but given the disconcerting lack of proper maintenance for this site (EX: I haven't gotten Update Notices on my email in months, maybe more than a year…), I'm inclined to be a bit wary of such talk.

I'm a bit saddened by this portent, because I first started writing on this site February 25, 2009; around 13 years ago. Some of my best internet friends were made here (I lacked the motivation to constantly update Facebook), some of my best (and worst, but I learned from them) stories were written on this site, and I've taken so many fantastical journeys via stories posted here… To contemplate that all of that history might just vanish one day…

But fret not! For in preparation of this eventuality, I have crafted a new profile on Archive of Our Own/Ao3. My PenName is the same, NewMystery356, and in the event of a total FF dot Net shutdown, I fully intend to re-publish my previous works THERE. They might be trimmed down a bit with the Review Replies taken out, or I might leave them there; who knows? But let it be known that I have a safety net in place for my own works, and anyone serious about writing their stories, I'm sure they'll plan accordingly as well if they aren't already "Simulposting".

Okay I didn't make that AO3 account for this exacting eventuality, I was originally going to post my Lemon off-shot stories there (so I wouldn't run the risk of my main stories being burned at the stake by a bunch of internet prudes because I stuck "explicit content" in there), but that's beside the point!

I'll keep writing on FF dot Net for as long as I'm able, and in the best-case scenario the aforementioned rumors are just some scare-mongering to maybe get the site admins to get off their butts and do some proper maintenance. But should the worse come to pass, my stories, our, stories, won't vanish into the digital ether. I have backups of all my old works, and updated backups on all my new ones, and in the event that FF dot Net shuts down, you'll be able to find me again on Archive of Our Own/AO3 under my same PenName.
